we know that backup battery is important in wm2003, but does it still useful when we're in wm06? since the memory still be saved in the main memory..
just a thought= is there any tweak or registry input which read both battery (main and backup) as one unity (a big battery) so after the main battery drains, device will automatically change to backup battery...
regards
adri
The backup battery does not hold enough power to drive the full PDa..it would not last long at all...it is only used to keep the memory data intact.
Works without the backup battery..
I ran my BA for a while without the backup battery. The only thing that happened was that the clock resetted itself on reboot...

Hi, it's normal then after 24 hours of battery dead, my XDAII, when I charge it and I turn on, it require the first step procedure (copy, paste, display alligment, etc). Ther's not a internal battery for personal and basic data storage?
Thank Mich
It does warn there is a possibility of losing data if you let it go flat, there is a backup battery as shown under setting/power.
in settings system under permanent save you can make sure that you dont loose your contacts and appointments
On my PDA2k, when I looked at the battery display, it showed me the main battery and the backup battery.
On my M5000, I only see the main battery...? Does it have a backup battery? Am I safe to get the SIM out without it all resetting?
I'm guessing it is, but would like to be sure
The Universal uses persistent memory. Your data is safe if the battery runs down. Just like a mobile phone, when you change the battery etc you don't lose your phone back! Its taken M$ and HTC years to get this basic tech to market!
My XDAII backup battery shows 100% all the time but if I remove the main battery even for 5 seconds I lose everything. When I power it back up the backup battery still shows 100%. would this be a fault with the batter or the pda?
I have sprite backup software but I am unsure if it backs everything up properly as last time I used it to restore, something was corrupted and I could send sms messages but was unable to receive them. So I had to take the battery out and then tediously load all of my apps again and forget about restoring from a backup.
Any ideas???
I do have the same problem and the phone resets on 25% main battery
any help?
Change you back up battery
hey guys you just need to change your Back up battery. There is a small battery inside our phone. search for battery change manual (or a PDF) available online. Please take a back up of data or you may loose everything.
check your manual and bring the same make battery before you open the phone.
hi,
I have read a number of posts mentioning that programs / settings are saved to non-volatile mem when you remove the battery.
However, when I remove the bat from my m5000 I loose the date & time after about 10sec.
Is this normal?
when is th Backup battery used and for what?
thanks
the magician (and many others older model) doesn't have persistent memory, it needs a battery to keep its contents. The backup battery will not start your phone, but it will keep your data safe for a few days (after your main battery goes dead), giving you enough time to charge your battery.
Super!
thanks for the info!
Cheers,
Klenovsky

Have you tried how long the backup battery lasts? Because once my main battery exhausted, and after 30 minutes I put on the charger, and saw the backup battery is at 80 %... So I think the backup battery lasts for a half day, or is it depends on what background porgrams running, or what?

Jam and all other wm2003 device have two type of backup battary option....
1)Which is situated in jam motherboard...a 3v battery...
if u remove ur man battery then it will keep power on ram for 30-40 min at most....after that a hard reset...
2)jam keep a portion of main battery for backup reason...that is if even ur main battery reach 0%...then this backup portion of main battery will keep power to ram for nearly 72hours (3Days)...if ths portion also reach to 0% then the 1st option will work for 40 min..
i think this will clear any quary abt backup battery of wm2003 device..
PS:new wm5 devices doesnt have any backup batter nor the 1st one nor do the 2nd one...as this is a persistent memory based os...thats is one another reson thats why wm5 devices have better battery performance then of wm2003..
