my radio dying? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I've been experiencing a lot of radio issues lately. It'll work fine for a day or two, then show no signal and an 'x' in the data icon for a day or so, then suddenly start working. It's not affected by a reset.
i've flashed 4 different radios on it, and they all behave the same. i also have a Tilt and it maintains a connection while the 8525 does not.
could the antenna be loose inside? do you think the radio is going out?

Same problem here any progress? It do not have signal, then have signal...

same problem for me... please someone help us :-(

christmas is coming

Try flashing 1.48.00

Same problem here for about a month. Odd.

tighten sim card holder
I spent weeks reinstalling radios and roms and almost $100 trying to fix this problem. I finally tightened the sim card holder and it fixed all my "no GSM" and spotty coverage issues. The sim card is held in by two tin brackets. I bent them down a bit so the card was held in more secure and all my problems were gone! I really thought it was a software problem. It really still doesn't make sense because I had the problem with or without a sim card in it. But, who cares, now it works! God is good!

I saw this thread and its the same problem i was having, read through it and saw the post about bending the sim card holders down a bit and it actually worked, thanks for the idea

Hi I did the same thing. It worked for a while but started again. After opening the phone a hundred times, flashing a hundreds radios etc what i did and worked was clean the sim card with an eraser. Trust me, u will not get no gsn again and always give u a signal.

I have similar symptoms, although the major difference is that the device crashes and does a hard reset by itself.
Still, I'll try bending the SIM holders; there's nothing to loose at that stage...

Hermes keeps disconnecting - SOLVED

Note: see the fourth post for info on how I fixed this.
My Vario II (now on Three in the UK) has, for the last month or so, begun to disconnect at random intervals. It will be working happily in a full 3g signal, then it will suddenly bring up the "no connection" !x, which will then turn back to 2g and then 3g.
It's not the network - I have a PAYG Three sim which I used to check for coverage before I signed up for a contract, so I put that in my old e61 and sat the two connected side-by-side and it doesn't have any of these problems.
It's a complete pain because on the days when it happens more often it destroys the battery life, anything down to about 4 hours in a full 3g signal, as well as stopping any chance of push email working properly.
I've tried several radio ROMs and none of them make any difference; I've also tried switching back to a known-good ROM which I know used to work fine, so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue.
Does this sound like the "dying radio" problem other people have talked about? Or is it likely to be a dodgy connection in the phone?
Ta!

I think I may have fixed it: a couple of months ago I reformatted the microSD card after some file corruption and I told it to use FAT32 (since I assumed that would be better); however today I found a post on the web (on this site?) somewhere (which I can no longer find, argh!!) which suggested that might cause some problems. I wish I could find it now because there must be something about the type and size of card (it's only a 1GB) because FAT32 is obligatory on SDHC cards, yes?
Anyway, I've reformatted as FAT16 with a single FAT (http://tinyurl.com/6pdhtx suggests the increase in speed is significant) using mkdosfs for windows (http://www1.mager.org/mkdosfs/) and had no dropped connection since. I'll keep an eye on it but I'm thinking that may have been the problem... is this a known issue?
Is there any reason why FAT32 on a (non-SDHC) micro-sd card would cause the radio malfunction? A power drain issue maybe?
Anyway, like I said, I'll report back in a few days.
Edit: it just dropped out. Back to the drawing board.

Stuff that. I just watched it drop out while the SD card was removed completely so it can't be SD related.
SOLVED!!!

An update for anyone experiencing this problem.
In desperation before I bought a new phone I took this one apart (first level only, I didn't dare take apart the slide because last time I did that - with an SGH D600 IIRC - I couldn't get it back together (!)) and reseated everything I could see, as well as giving it a damn good clean with a can of compressed air and some (dry) cotton pads.
I also used a small flat-bladed screwdriver to prise up the SIM contacts just in case they had, over time, become too flattened to make a consistent contact.
Since then (two days ago) my phone hasn't dropped out once. It's been connected through IMAP IDLE all day and battery readings are dropping less than 4% per hour (which is better than I've ever had it with push email turned on)
I'm somewhat annoyed I did both things at once because now I'm not sure which solved it. I'm inclined to believe it was the SIM contacts because I can't really see how cleaning the phone would make a difference, unless it had managed to get something metallic in there. I do feel better about it being clean though
I suppose it's possible that having gunk around the chips might restrict the airflow (there was a lot of crap in there) and therefore produce problems but, like I said, I don't see it.
Hope this helps someone else with this problem, anyway.
Useful info - good to get your follow-ups
For clarity: this isssue is related to random loss of network connection and excess power drain.
It is not the random power loss issue where the entire device switches off.

SIM card not inserted - anyone else had this problem?

Hi all,
Just got home, looked at my mobile and it said there was no signal - so I turned it off and back on again, then it said there was no SIM inserted. Keep restarting the phone, keeps saying the same thing. Why?!
Am going to try it in my old SE K850i to see if it's the SIM card or the phone at fault.
In the mean time, does anyone else know of this fault and how to fix..?
I didn't the drop the phone or anything, it was just in my pocket, on it's own - like it always is!
Cheers
Tried it in my K850, works fine. Please someone help
yeah i usually dont put the sim card all the way in but slightly in and it works
I've re-opened this thread due to me misreading....DOH! Apologies (Mental note to one self.......follow own advice and read before posting).
Ta
Rick
you could try to clean the contacts on the sim card connector of the phone with a q-tip, and see if that solves the problem.
also check if any of those contacts appears to be bent or something, and so doesn't make a connection with the card.
Everytime I open the back up to remove the SD card, I get the SIM card missing bit even though I have not touched it! My HD is only 3 months old and it has done this from the start. I just have to remove it a bit - shove it back in and the phone accepts it is there. Annoying but not enough for me to send it back.
hmm, maybe try to make the sim a bit thicker so it doesnt move around (it shouldn't move by removing the back cover, but it seems to happen on your phone / sim combination.
try putting a thin piece of paper on top of the sim (not the contacts side, but the side facing to the battery cover)
maybe that prevents this problem?
Missing simcard
I have the same problem with my simcard. Though something strange happens when the phone is off for more then 10min, it works fine and notices there is a simcard for like 30 sec after which the error pops-up again. I have tried all of the above things, my simcard works fine in my other phone, adding some paper to thicken it doesn't work either
Anyone who could help me with this?
P.S. sorry for the bad english
As in post 7# written, put some papersheet in the simholder above your simcard to increase the contactpreasure. This surely helps.
Tis trick is also useful for all dualsim users who thik the dualsimadapter does not work in their device (but after using this trick get astonished!)
for Thysiey:
Try to switch to Gsm mode to test . Maybe you have bad umts signal? Happens at other places too, or only at one place?
Got the same issue here...
I cannot move the SIM because it is being hold in place by the battery. (to little room)
Adding a piece did not work either.
Anyone got another solution?
anyone? My mothers HD just got this problem now. She has a new phone and for the contract renewal she had to read the backside of the sim. The phone all of a sudden didn't recognizes the simcard anymore.. I tried a few other simcards but it won't read it anymore.
My plan was to sell the old phone but now it's almost worthless just a shame it is still a great phone to operate.. handy with the navigation and all

[Q] Losing Sim Card connection?

all the sudden about a week ago it seems like my sim card is not connedted to the phone. It doesnt say no sim but it seems like it loses all connection and the batttery needs to be pulled for it to connect. its very strange. I am running pre-mango 7712. I am going to flash back to 7004 to see if the problem still exists. Has anyone else with this phone (att) rev 1.3 had any issues where it seems that the sim card isnt connected? or maybe just the Antenna is lose inside? my phone has never been dropped. It slid out of my pocket when i was driving once but that shouldnt have damaged any soldering inside.
my phone did that and it turned out that the contacts under the metal plate where the sim card slides in had broken off somehow.
but mine said no sim, so maybe you have some other issue.
as for my problem, after samsung fixed the phone, i haven't had any connection or sim issues on nodo, premango, or mango.
Yeah my phones not saying no sum. It is just losing connection. Like I have it charging sitting on a table and it will be fine. The I will pick it up use it for say 20 minutes. Then next thing I know there is no service. Battery pull, take the sum out put it back in power on and its back to working. Idk its very frustrating
maybe I should call at&t. I still have a few months on my waranty
well ive run out ideas i put my wifes simcard in to see if maybe it was just my sim and hers is doing the same thing. my sim is fine so its definitley the device. right now im actually using my good ol' samsung epix. gonna call att in the morning to see if i can get a replacement. or i might have to send it to samsung (hope not) i have flashed back to 7004 to see if it was some wierd bug. its not. it seems like the phone gets hotter than usual too. first noticed it the other day when i was using the maps at the state fair i kept losing signal and it was very hot in my palm. like i said before ive never really dropped this phone. its never got wet. im stumped.

looks like a hardware issue, hopefully att will swap it out for convenience, for my issue, i had to mail it in to samsung, who took about a week to get it fixed and sent back, it was actually a pretty pleseant experience.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I was looking at it this morning and it kind of looks like the solder is loose where the pins connect to PCB. Wierd how this could happen its not like I swap out SIM cards all the time. After wiggling the whole simcard slot about a tad it seems like its holding up. Well see over the weekend.
i´ve been having the exact same problem so maybe is a software problem and not hardware my info is this:
im in a re 1.3
SGH-i917
SO VERSION 7.10.7712.60
FIRMWARE 2103.11.3.3
HARDWARE 3.1.0.7
BOOT 5.3.1.6
tell yours and see if is a matter of hardware or software
No it was hardware problem for me.
The guy at ATT took the phone apart right in front of me and the charger port fell off the PCB. It was a refurbished phone.
so tech service help u, im asking becuse im in colombia so i cant send my phone to at&tfor tech support so i have to take it to a local cellphone tech shop, what was the diagnosis in yours so i can give a guide to help fix mine
Had a similar issue with my LG Optimus. Didn't see any SIM. Turned out to be software corruption, works just fine now after reflash.

Sim Card issues. Please help?

Alright so this problem arrives roughly a week ago. I was hoping it'd be gone by now, but nope. Worse than ever.
For reference. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505. Unlocked LTE international version.
Roughly 2 months ago I rooted and flashed the Echoe a kitkat rom v18. I also have Philz recovery flashed....
My sim card keeps disconnecting while I'm not even using my phone. It doesn't even have to be moving. It just happens. I'll get a message from my phone saying that the sim card has disconnected and to restart to fix the problem..... This rarely works, as when I reboot, I get the error of no sim card.... its really started to get on my nerves. I doubt it's the sim card, as there's never been any problems with it. I will take it into my carrier today and have it swapped out for a new one.
I've seen this problem happen to other people on these threads, yet no answer has arrived. I've reset tp factory etc blah blah blah. I've even uninstalled the last 30 new apps I've installed, and the problem has yet to sort itself. I've tried taping the sim card, putting paper on the top and reinserting. Everything. It hasn't had any major drops for about 4 months so I doubt that is the issue. Only time it's dropped is when I drop it onto my bed....
Has anyone else had this problem? Have a fix? I can't stick it back under my warranty as I've flashed the recovery and rom... voids it does it not?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I suppose it could depend on modem vs wrong RIL, but unsure. I had such behavior on my old S2, but fixed it with proper modem/RIL combo. Have you checked your logs in data/logs? How many of anomalous logs you have there?
Tried popping in another Sim card, just to exclude yours?
This happened to me. I was using a cut up full size card, replacing it with a micro sim solved it. I replaced the sim tray anyway just in case it was that. It was 5 min job and the parts like a fiver
Sent from my GT-I9500
So I've replaced the microsim with another microsim (both were originally microsims). .. unresolved. Nothing has happened for the past couple of days until it happened yesterday... now nonstop again. I know it's not the sim because it happened even after I replaced it. It just had a couple of quiet moments. Now I suppose my next try is for replacing the sim tray myself. Fingers crossed. Also. No, I wouldn't know a clue on how to even get my logs. Haven't even thought of it. I'll do that when I next get the problem and am forced to reboot. Thank you.
Okay so I've found something possibly helpful. I've only just noticed that this usually happens when my battery hits 100%. I've removed all apps that tell me my battery info..... I hope that was the cause. I'll update tomorrow.

SM-N910F "No Sim Inserted" Issues

As the title suggests, my phone is coming up with "No SIM Inserted" warnings, and forces me to restart two or three times to get the problem to go away. This happens pretty much daily, at the minimum.
Restarting takes an annoying amount of battery and time, so it's a bit of a pain. The SIM eventually works, but it's not a good sign.
Since the card eventually works, I'd imagine that this is some sort of Firmware issue? My internet is horrible, so downloading it from sammobile would take forever. So I thought that I'd come get your guys opinion on it first on whether it's a hardware issue, or a software issue.. I've noticed a lot of other phones (such as the S4) having this issue, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience on fixing it?
It's unrooted so it's still under warranty.
Cheers,

First thing I would try is clean the sim card then factory reset with the sim inserted. I had to do this with mine (once) but thought it was just a glitch so never posted about it. After that I'd try another sim to test the handset or replace the sim card if it was the same.
Had this problem in one of my older phones, can't remember which.
At some point your SIM will stop working altogether and reboots just won't fix it anymore.
I contacted my provider and asked for a new SIM and that solved my problem.
I think it's worth getting a new SIM, or at least trying with a different one.

I'm not sure how I'd clean it, exactly. So I just sorta blew on it, and the tray. If it happens again I'll probably just get a new SIMcard.

The SIM is barely a year old, so it's a bit of a pain if I'll have to get a new one. However, it'd cost me nothing to get a new one, anyway.
Thanks a lot for your input. It only started happening about a week or two ago, so it probably is the SIM.

When I had that issue, it was with a few days old SIM, sometimes they're just defective. I know what you mean about the hassle though.

Clean the SIM with a pencil eraser.
