Yet another MicroSD scenario - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

So I promise I searched around for this exact scenario before posting - if anyone has seen another thread exactly like this please link it
I have an 8525 that does not recognize the MicroSD in file explorer, there is no application that sees it, and the computer does not see it in WMDC. The MicroSD works in another Hermes, so it's not the card itself. Is it common for the MicroSD hardware to stop working and is there anything to do with it?

Greetings Greygabe. You may want to try a couple of troubleshooting steps to determine whether the card and/or the Hermes are at fault here.
You should try to format the card in your Hermes. Take a look at the program that I've attached called Storage Tools. It's a handy application capable of defragmentation, storage card repair and formatting of your microSD card. Give the format a whirl and let us know how ya do (the file system and cluster size won't make a difference since we're just trying to determine if the card can be seen and it's contents manipulated by the machine).
If the program fails to recognize the card, then you may want to try another SD card so as to pinpoint the potential cause of failure which in this case may be the microsd card reader in your Hermes.
It's also possible that the version of the Windows Mobile OS that you're running doesn't have the patch applied to it to allow the reading of high capacity Micro SDHC. If this is the scenario that we're in, then you may want to consider upgrading so as to take advantage of that feature.
Please let us know what rom you are currently running (Settings -> About -> OS version & Settings -> Device Information -> ROM Version) and the make/model and capacity of the card itself.

S100: Cannot see SD-card???

Hi. I've just started to experience some problems regarding my Qtek S100. It cannot read my SD cards.
I get this message: "Do you want to try to format the storage card to make it readable? This will permanently delete any files on the card".
If I click yes, is says that the card has been formattet ok, but I still can't see it in File Explorer.
I've tried using 512 mb card, 1 gb card and a 2 gb card - same result.
Any ideas? Is there any obvious solutions to this?
Regards
Malke
I had the same problem with my MDA Compact. There are a couple of things you can try. First off, some units had a shoddy sd slot, so try wedging a bit of cardboard in there with yout sd card (at the front), it helps with connection. Also, my pda decided to format the sd card poorly, and partitioned it for me, then wouldn't use it. It took me ten months to solve that problem, but I eventually figured it out; download HP USB Format utility (i'd supply the URL, but can't find the exact one I used - this should at least point you in the right direction), and that'll automatically format the SD to its full capacity.

Formatting SD Card

Hi All,
Just wondering if there was a way of formatting the SD card completely from within WM ? Or do i simply just delete all files thats on the card?
I also read somewhere about some registry tweaks to improve performance on the SD Card - There was a benchmarking utility to run to see if it would make any difference also in the post. I have searched around everywhere but cant find it. Can someone help?
Regards,
Craig
There is a way to format the card using WM - whether it helps any is debateable.. (I never noticed any improvement).
But how I did it was this:
1. Put the card into your laptop/desktop
2. Start--> Run-->"compmgmt.msc" (or "dskmgmt.msc")
3. Go to disk management, delete the partition on the SD card
4. then insert it into the phone.
The phone will ask you whether you want to format it, click yes and it's done
But, using dskmgmt.msc and creating a FAT32 partition is the same thing..
p.s. deleting the files != formatting the card.
pp.s. don't know how to trigger the format from within WM. There may be some utilities (saw some on Handango regarding defrag on your SD card) which can do this - never saw the benefit of defrag also..because the speed of the card is not high enough to the point at which defrag would help.
pocket mechanics does that

Memory card

Hi!
Just got my first memory card ever - put it in but can't see or access it, not appearing in storage device.
its an 8gb mini used through an mini s adapter..
please help!!
Hi.
I had simillar problem with my card. Wizard is not like the other phones, it can't read cards which are damaged or not formatted. Obviously, yours is not damaged. Simply just access the card through your PC, format it, insert the card into the wizard (you will see no change at all so far), reset your phone and after windows mobile loads, it will ask you if you want to fomat the card - yes, format it. And there you go, you have yourself a storage device
Hope it works.
P.S.
There's also one other option, your card is too big to be handled by your device.
but it seems to be formatted
Hi. seems its formatted, although I did not format it.
I Put it into (vista) computer and it just worked. When I did a "show properties" on the card it was FAT 32 formatted.
Is there a Max limit to the size of card?
8gig mini or micro?
If it is a 8 gig micro your phone will not read it. Sorry will only ready mini sd's
not micros or mini sdhc.
even...
Hi!
even though I'm using a MicroSD adapter??
thanx
On my wiz, my card is running FatFS , not Fat32. It could make the difference, i am not sure. Since you are in a zero position, you have nothing to lose with one more format, so just format the card in your pc and restart your wizard with the card inserted. If this doesn't help, then greasemuntney is prolly right and you can't use this card.
fatfs
Hi so right
Whats FatFS??
thanx
as mentioned above the wizard does not support SDHC standard and your 8GB happens to be SDHC.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SD_Memory_Card
awwwwwwwwwww c rap
damn... so is there a firmware upgrade? or something that I can do to upgrade the phone to use sdhc??
I got this card as a present so can't swap it?
Nope, you're bagged. Phone cannot read SDHC, no matter what kind of adapters, ROMs or firmware you attempt to employ. Try selling the chip on Craigslist and use the money to buy a bunch of 2GB cards.
SDHC
ok before a final verdict that wizard wouldn't read an sd that is in sdhc format (fat32 reliant) do note that i had the same problem but googled to find two solutions that didn't work alone yet combined did !
first of all you need to change the latency of the card read in registray as follows:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPUnloadDelay“=dword:8196
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPWaitIODelay“=dword:8196
Note that the 8196 should be entered as a DECIMAL value. The HEXADECIMAL (HEX) equivalent is 0×00002004.
now attached are two sdhc drivers that require (acording to uploader) to be installed cab file first for registry tweaks and then replace both files installed in windows directory with others included in driver bundle. (through instruction guide in a txt file is included within zip file)
finally reboot , yet as a disclamer do note the following your device will not be backward compatible with regular sds . (not untill you hard reset it so it would restore original dlls and setting)
Interesting. If this works for anyone besides night-mayor, please post your hardware(G3/G4)/IPL/SPL...tracking successes and failures with this method will be valuable to other users.
In fact, you can only use standard SD cards (mini or micro with mini adapter) and the maximum capacity for standard SD protocol is 4GB, but it's difficult to find 4GB Standard SD cards (micor or mini).
Most of manufacturer actually sells HC card for 4GB size, and on web stores, it's often not very precise about HC or none HC.
Good luck...
List of working 4GB Mini SD cards.
If it ain't here, it ain't working, generally speaking (it is not comprehensive). As you can see, they do make 4GB cards that aren't using the HC configuration, but they are rare. One of the replies on the thread I linked to above even mentions an 8GB kit, but it did not work.

Fix Micro SD Card After Failure In Windows 7 Free

After trying a Sandisk Class 6 Micro SD card in my Focus and having it fail after the first reset I decided to look for some software to fix the card and use it in my laptop. I did a Google for partition software and found "EASEUS" and they offer their 'Partition Master Home Addition" Free to home users. I downloaded it to try and I was absoloutely amazed. This is the best software I have ever saw for working with Windows partitions and it supports all known types of removeable storage. It wiped the Micro SD card clean and repartitioned it in a very short time including formatting it in FAT32.
I downloaded this but not sure how to use it. How can I find the failed MicroSD if the computer cannot read it?
After my card failed in the Focus I put it back in the reader on my desktop and it showed the card as a 200 Meg card but it did see it. I tried to format it with windows but it couldn't do it. Try putting the card in you reader and open the EASUS software and let me know if it can see the card. I guess the reason my computer could see the card might be because I have modified my register to load files and look at the storage on the Focus. The mod I used on the registry is the one that has been posted to several of the forums and it does work.
this sounds like spam...
SPAM is a lunch meat
Formatting an SD Card from a Windows Phone requires the card to be sent the "Force Erase" command (SD Card Simplified spec (pdf) Section 4.3.7.3). This would require support at the driver level and support by the SD reader as well - so it is unlikely that this software will work.
If you need to erase an Windows Phone 7 SD Card, hard reset the phone (although this will create a new lock on the card) or find a friend with a Nokia
Not saying it would work in this case, but I recently built a new Game PC and had lots of permmisions issues with several HDs, they were not even visible in Explorer, but you could see them in the Storage Manager, allowing me to do some format work and making them visible to the entire system.
The software has no problem deleting a pass word protected partition. When I put the card in the reader it was showing a 200 Meg partition that it could see and a hidden partition that It didn't show. It told me the hidden partition was pass word protected and then gave me the choice of formatting the 200 Meg partition or the entire card. I chose the entire card and then chose FAT 32 and it deleted every thing on the card and when it finished the card had 31.2 GB of space, the same thing it had before it was put in the Focus. Not sure how it done it but it did.

Can you post up where I can download the mod for the registry?
Edit: Nevermind, got it thanks
Unless I found the wrong registry hack (I used the one listed at MobileTechWorld for using the phone as a mass storage device), this whole process was garbage. Didn't make the card readable, and this "best software" couldn't see it.
EASEUS did not work for me
Downloaded the partition manager software. After the format, it displayed an error message and exited. My microSD card is still not formatted right.
Nokia did it for me
I have an old E71 that revived my card..

Wow! Funny thing is, that's not even full-on Symbian, it's S60. Because of your post, I dug my old Nokia N75 flip phone (which, similarly, runs S60) out of the retired phones drawer. It reads the Sandisk 16c4 from my Focus, and prompts to format it.
So, yeah, confirmed that any old phone running S60 can format a card from WP7. Awesome!

Lucky you!
I just downloaded this software and it does NOT see my microSD card. I have a Kingston 8GB C4 I want to reformat and ck speeds for posting.
If this software really works, then provide actual instructions in this thread to make it work.

[Q] Weird MicroSd issue

Hello world,
I'll try to make it as short and accurate as possible. I have an S5 SM-G900F and until recently I was using a 32 GB micro sd card (formated in Fat32) that i had on my S2.
A while back the card just unmounted and died (i tested in another phones + on 2 pcs through card reader).
1st i bought a 64 GB card on ebay (a cheap one) and when receiving it I had 2 issues: the card was slow to read/write and no matter what method was used and how many files were transfered, after a reboot it would only display the first +/- 7.5 GB. The remaining folders remained, but with no files in them. I thought the card was defective and got myself a new one but went for a 128GB this time Read/write speed were correct but i still had this +/- 7.5 gb limit on it. I do not have any phones to test this time, due to the capacity, but on several computers, the size of the microsd card was correct and when connected through USB OTG when i had more that 10gb files on it, they displayed and played just fine (movies and music). It appears that the phone just "deletes" files going over the 7.5 GB threshold. I used the following methods to copy files to the card:
1. USB cable and MTP.
2. Card reader
3. Over wifi using ES File Manager
I thought that maybe the stock kitkat rom i had was the problem so i upgraded to a stock lollipop 5.0 (spanish one) but i have the same issue. I even tried unrooting the phone.
Has anyone ever encountered this kind of issue? Does anyone have any suggestion to try resolving this?
Feeling desperate here
can anybody help? please

Hi :good:,
Sorry to hear that you are faced with a Defective SD Card. Stop buying from ebay as the sellers most of the times are not authentic and the electronic products you buy will be fake from inside but looks absolutely genuine from outside.
Currently ONLY 'SanDisk' and 'Samsung' produces 128GB mmc card.
Try to reformat the Card as Full Format in Windows and check if it works.
if not then Delete the Card partition from Windows. Put it in the phone and it will be identified as Damaged Card. Go ahead with clicking the message and the Phone will Auto Partition and Auto Format the card.
If its still not working... then you are married with a Damaged Card.
Check if you are accessing the SD Card Folder over WiFi not the Phone internal memory Folder which is anyways will be much lesser. KitKat do not allow accessing the SD Card to 3rd Party Apps but there are few tricks here in XDA (search for it) which will overcome that.
Happy Troubleshooting.
