Someone posted this month ago but got no answer.
I will post it aga: does anybody know how to open the Athena ? I drop mine and the radio has very low signal, I assume the antenna broke or disconnected. Need help !!!
Thanx
Probably says in the service manual available here ->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1469136&postcount=17
It does !!
Thank you, tonight I will try to open it.
get the screws out from the bottom, use a flathead screwdriver and hope u dont snap it in half just joking. the above manual is your best bet.
Fabio - did you have trouble opening the zip files?
I didn't know it could do radio
What, the Ameo can get radio? Cool. How do you use it? What software do you have to install?

No trouble at all.
I could open my x7501 but didn't find what was the problem. I thought it could be a contact or something loose but didn't see anything. A recommendation if you want to open your athena: stick to the manual ! I took out some button that should not and broke them. Some glue fixed it but they are stiff now

Hope someone can help. I run TT6 and Igo 2006. Both working perfectly until yesterday.. I installed Memory Map and it wouldn't find the GPS (which was set to Sirf Star III). Wouldn't get a lock when I changed it to NMEA.
The difficulty is that now the unit won't get a GPS lock in any program. I have uninstalled Memory Map and done several hard resets but the problem still remains that the GPS light will flash but won't get a fix, however long I leave it.
Have tried lots of combinations of settings to no avail
Ideas?
I was struggling with my three GPS applications for a few weeks without success too. Later, for the one that did not work, I discovered that this GPS software has the feature to automatically find a working comm port for me, and when I chosed that it worked perfectly. I'm not familiar with TT6 or igo, but do they have similar feature, where at the pull down selection window for the port you could choose auto/detect automatically or similar?

i-Go has the option to detect automatically and it works perfectly with the Ameo.
On the main screen tap the Sat Dish icon and the GPS Data screen pops up - you can configure from there.
it is very simple. point the stupid MS GPS sharing applet into nirvana ("none" for hardware port and then in each GPS program use COM5 at 9600 - NOTHING ELSE!

Aaah - if it happens again, I will try it. Thanks for that.
Update: In the end I got so annoyed I had a real huff at T-mobile (because I needed to travel urgently and I just couldn't get it to work and neither could they. They decided to replace it.

I'm hoping you walk into a store and swap it out. Especially since it's a TMobile device.

In the UK it's often a 'courier picks up and drops off replacement' scenario - especially if you bought online like I did.
I answer to your questions, I bought it from a shop (I won't buy these things online!). I spoke to customer services and they agreed to send me a new one and collect the old one. But because I needed it urgently they suggest that I went back to the shop for a replacement. Unfortunately they didn't have one but they found me another local store that did and that store did the replacement. All in all, it took about an hour. Have to hand it to Tmobile on this occasion

Pleased to report the replacement is working perfectly (although seems to take longer to pick up a signal).
for info tmobile have two standard delivery options if they are shipping a new unit for order or replacement. royal mail special delivery or special delivery before 9am. moan like a b**** like i did and you can get the latter free of charge. if the unit isnt that new (time depends on agreement and whether home or business user) and is faulty they will send a recon unit by courier who will collect the old and give you recon device only. unlike the new option with royal mail which they ship a complete retail packand a prepaid bag to return the old one.
oh and one las thing.... dont think about *accidently* forgetting to send the complete pack back.... or tmobile will charge full retail price for the unit....
Use the search luke.....
It's not a faulty ameo, it's down to memory map, when you select sirf (and by default it's set to nothing, not sirf) it turns off the gps unit. Hard reset is the way to recover it..
How do I know?
Because mine did this..

Dear Darth
I did use the search and (if you read my original post) I also did several hard resets. The Force is strong in me
I have an XDA Atom, it falls down on the floor and the screen broken
then I bought one from ebay and change it myself
but For no apparent reason the Wi-Fi stopped working, do hard reset and this time there's no WiFi even on the wireless manager, it's gone!!
Do O2 self diag gives me "Get Adapter Info () return FALSE"
Any other details to help me solve this?

try to reflash the unit, if you can't still use wifi. It could have been HW problem and not SW.
reflashing is not working. it's definitely HW issue.
so, do u know where the wifi chip located on the board, just want to look at it for curiosity
thanks brian

sorry bro, but the fact that it can be HW issue, then replacement is the only solution or fix with SC and or any technician that is knowledgable with the unit.
Actually my mobile not only fall down on the floor
but it's ran away and jump from my hand to the ceiling and fall down on the sharp arm of my bed
so that's it, lcd broken and I fix it but my W.lan is the only not working part

well if WLAN is the only thing that's not working, you can just leave it as is. it's better to have a broken WLAN than a paperweight unit right?
My wireless is not working.
Hi all,
My wireless is not working. The wifi self diagnostic returns "GetAdapterInfo() return FALSE...".
Can you please help me in this problem???
I have Radio : R060822N_MN2ARC_RS00013
My wifi working sometimes well like may be once in 50 try. So it is not something related to hardware. and at that time wifi self diagnostic returns proper MAC address.
Can you please guide me which radio is latest one for O2 Atom exec and if this is not latest then from where I can download latest.
Looking for response.
Thanks and Regards,
CyberShakti

Also, some advice..during the summer you may want to use a Fan specifically for your phone or it will overheat.
Perfect, thanx
While using the router, keeping the keyboard out will help dissipate the heat too.
what about ICS control, how can I make my phone a router using ICS Control 2.1?
Beats me? I wonder
My reception is poor on the phone. If I stick a piece of wire into the antenna port, it improves. I have flashed to the Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM which I believe has an upgraded radio version and am still having problems. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Welcome to forums
Enter to the Universal Wiki and go to the fttp site, then you can download several radios.
The best way is to test the more you can till you get the one with best reception.
What version do you have?
Most recommended are 1.15, 1.17 and 1.18
Good luck,
Most ROMs don't have the radio included, you need to flash it separately. So, no, don't think your ROM came with upgraded radio included. Speaking opf upgraded radio - sometimes upgraded, as in higher in number/date of issue is not necessarily the best for your particular location/ROM combination, so my advice would be to test a few different versions and see which one performs the best in your location.
Thank you kindly for the assistance. It was this issue that led me to put my Universal away and get an Advantage, but once I found this website I decided to see if I could get some help in fixing the Uni. I was missing it
whelp I put the Radio 1.18 on and it did no good at all. I attempted to put the Radio 1.15 on, but the flash utility is showing a picture of a device that is not a uni and it is not working when I try it. I have downloaded the file from a couple of different places on here and it is labeled as Universal_radio-1.15.00
any assistance will be greatly appreciated up to and including my willingness to bear your child. As I am a male, this would be no easy feat so it should show the depth of my gratitude
I have 4 years with my Uni and tested a lot of ROMĀ“s and radios and still have the bad reception problem.
Is something I can live with..., but in some areas reception is so bad.
Some are better than other. I discovered on my personal case that radio 1.08 and 1.18 are the ones that give me better signal and are not a battery eaters.
This must be also something to do with cell provider, on my case, Telcel sucks in terms of reception, and prices and, and....
problem is that it does not work at all in my office. maybe i can rig up an antenna that is on the inside of the phone

Yes, some ROM upgrade utility apps will show Magician. If you downloaded a file labelled as Universal_radio - go ahead, it's all good and it is for your device, don't worry about the picture, however, follow the reset instructions for Uni, not the ones shown. Should work, don't see any reason not to. What is the message you are getting?
Rigging up an antenna should be the last resort. As far as reception is concerned, I can have only 1 bar showing or none at all, but that means I still have the reception, it's when I don't see 3G or the data connection attempts to connect and fails, I know there is a problem.
Interesting thing: we have a large mall and part of it has no reception whatsoever for my Uni, yet has some on other cellphones I use, but barely. So when I enter that area my GPRS and 3G connection disappears completely and restarts when I leave, I know exactly the location of the 'communications black hole'.
Can it be that your office blocks the GPRS? Can it be that your internal antenna is malfunctioning? What are the exact symptoms?
As for bearing children for me, I think it's the job better left to the professionals (women)
Forgot to mention, I don't have reception in my very own garage of all places! Drives me nuts!
that probably for the best since I wasnt sure where to begin. I went home and googled it and surprise surprise it's supposed to be darned near impossible (edit: me giving birth, that is)
my whole building is a blackout zone for my phone. other phones are weaker, but my uni is the only one I have seen that has no reception whatsoever. I got the radio 1.15 working and still no go.
I got the uni because I really need a phone that I can realistically work with Word and Excel on to save me the hassle of carrying around a laptop. I don't think anything will work besides a 'custom' internal antenna or maybe I just stick with the Advantage until the new rumored HTC clamshell comes out (assuming I can afford it)

don't get your hopes up. It's all a part of the rumors swirling around about the Leo and the Thoth since it looks like the Thoth will no longer be of the Advantage line
Thanks for that
Hopefully they really launch something similar to Uni!!
Alright, as a very last suggestion - try factory ROM, it comes bundled with Radio and Ext Rom, see what happens.
it's all a no go
looks like I am going to have to go to work on it.
Now all I need is a plasma torch, 50 feet of nylon rope, a hydraulic press, 17 ferrets, and a bible
Hi,
So after doing the windows break, my data connection sometimes goes dead...I have to use either wifi or my 3G but not both....then it works fine.

Thanks for the help.
I did something like this before but it didn't seem to "take" for very long...so far it is so crossing my fingers.
My next problem is the internet sharing...I can enable it and connect devices to it but it doesn't seem to actually share data as the connected devices cannot get any data from the focus....help!

The Interop unlock/provision xml enables IS, afaik. I sugest you read this thread and re-do the steps. You can also ask there.
