av-out on wm5 possible?

hello all,
Is it possible to have av-out on my wm5 device?
I have an mini usb with on the other end a red and a yellow plug.
i've already tried to connect but it just doesn't work.
is there any application i can use so i can connect to my tv via av???
My phone is a orange M600 aka prophet with latest dopod rom.

rebelish, that is just not going to work. I mean that is not a PC usb port. First its a mini-usb, second its not got all the WinXP functions which enable it to be so.
What might be a solution is to have a SD Socket AV-out (haven't seen any), or even try it through wifi... There is a program (forgot the name) which transfers the picture to the PC through wifi, but probably does not work for video.

A.) most PDA USB ports are slave, meaning normal addons will not work on them
B.) there are indeed SDIO cards that provide a VGA/AV output

The only pda I've seen with video out is the Dell x51v. I'm guessing it's a fair custom job, using more than just a mini-usb cable.

I do think it's a shame that we don't have that function already in our pocketpc's but than again we can't have it all.
I think i'am going for the bluetooth pal adaptor now because with that one can do the job wireless and i can show my 2Mega pixel pics on my tv screen.

Connection to LAN via non-wireless Router, autocharger...

I know that connection to the internet can be achieved via USB&ActiveSync or Wifi. But can the device be connect to the internet via normal Ethernet plug on my (non-wireless) router. Which adapters are required to do so? At home I do not have a wireless router so I am wondering if this is possible…
And, can auto charger for my Hermes (TyTN) be also used for Athena??

Buy a cheap wireless access point (with no router) and connect it to the port on your wired only router.

the phone may also connect to the internet via bluetooth
and yes i believe the charger from your hermes should work

No. That's just a bunch of connectors. It won't help your situation.
I still think Pyrofer's sollution is the best one (second post).

any bluetooth dongle should work
but ideally speaking if u can afford it go for the wireless access point it will cost a little more than a bluetooth but its well worth the extra 10-15 bucks

Nonetheless I would like to stay "wired" for some time more. Reason is that I have two small kinds and we are leaving in a small apartment. I would like to prevent exposing them to any unnecessary "wireless" technologies as long as possible, at least now when they are growing up.
So, once again I am asking you: is there an adapter between Ethernet plug (RJ-45) and (mini) USB on the Athena and will eventually connection to the internet work?

There is NO wired adaptor for the Athena. The closest you can get is a USB lead and activesync, then use the PCs internet connection.

On the web site, it says:
Supports PPC 2002/2003/2003SE, CE5/4.2/4.1 and Windows® Mobile 5.0 (coming soon)
I am not sure it means the driver for WM5 is coming soon.

Ummm, you want to protect them from wireless radio waves? I take it you leave the phone in flight mode when in their presence, don't use Microwave ovens in your house, haven't got cordless phones e.t.c.? Sorry, don't want to bash your views, but there IS an awful lot of paranoia put out by the media and many people who jump on the bandwagon before establishing the facts.
As for sharing the internet, I know you can do it from PC->Ameo V easily with the included 'internet sharing' applet. I do it via BT, but USB works equally well.

Connect Athena to external touch screen monitor, possibile?

I know it will display the screen throw VGA out, but I am not sure whether it will enable the touch screen function, any of you know this?

Seems to me the key question is how would it get positioning info back to the ameo? That looks like a PS2 port on the non-vga cable. IF it was sending back mouse positioning info AND a simple ps2 to USB converter would work then I'd guess it MIGHT work with the mouse drivers i've seen discussed elsewhere. There is a fair few conditions to meet but mostly at a low level by the look of things. Not much info to go on and also it loks like they are using a pen of some kind there. That makes it less useful I think?

I just don't know if we simply plug in the vga cable from our Athena to the touch screen, will that work?
Possibility not, I can kind of see a usb cable there, how about plug that in the usb host ? but then maybe we still need to install the driver.....
Basically, what I am trying to do here to use get a bigger screen to show for Athena in a car. So, I will then have much bigger TOMTOM, and also can watch movie or go on internet.

I cant see any specks on that, but i did find another that said it was usb, if thats the case theres no reason why it shouldnt work.

it seems like they all need to install driver, do you think it will work without driver?

thats the only problem, does it need specialist drivers? I havnt been able to come up with an answer yet.
But i wont be buying one for the car, somone nicked me vario yesterday from the car so not even chancing the Ameo.
I was just going to buy a little 7" tv I bought this tiny Keyboard out of Maplin on offer. thought it would look sweet in the car. but this is giving me other ideas, anybody shed light!

They ALL need specialist drivers.
Touchscreen is absolute position, mouse is relative. You NEED the custom driver. It may be possible, but I dont know how.

1. I think on the Pic is a S-Video cable not PS2.
(The specs say nothing about PS2)
2. Till now i just saw Touchscreens with USB and like Profer said they all
need secial drivers.

Thanks for your answer, i just ask one of the seller there on ebay, and the answer I got is I will be able to plug the VGA cable in, that will enable the screen to display, but in order to get the touch screen working, I also need to plug in a USB, so now the question is whether the USB host will work on this....and of course the driver need to work too

The 4in1 cable should allow the USB to connect, but you would have to convince 3m or somebody (make most of the drivers) to write a PPC driver.
As almost ALL ppc's are touchscreen, they probably wouldnt bother for the 1 customer that wants it
If you know a coding guru who understands USB, then get them to do it for you. Either way, I doubt its gonna happen.

Don't know how many of u are interested in this issue, but anyway:
1. just grab the generic touch screen driver for win ce 5.0 from the usual site.
2. Copy 'n paste the UsbTouch.dll file into windows root directory of the X7500.
3. Plug the video cable (the one with usb connector).
4. Plug the xenarc TS usb cable in the abovementioned cable.
5. Wait for the dialogue box asking for the driver to be used with the unknown device.
6. Write the name of the .dll file copied into the device.
7. Press ok.
et voilà, les jeux sont fait! It woks perfectly, without even the need for calibration.
This is (even if it lacks some of the fun of setting up a carputer from scratch) the ultimate carputer, perfect integration among all application and real time (quite) OS.

Your on the right track with this answer,
Look for a touch screen that has a protocol that is treated as a standard HID ( Human interface device ) Ie:mouse, keyboard etc.etc.
if you can find such a device then the built in drivers for plug and play HID's will work fine.
otherwise the rest are right

External USB hard drive

Does anybody know if it is possible to connect the phone to a USB hard drive?

only with flame and Athena as they are the only ones which support usb host
other devices cant use usb devices only be used by usb hosts normaly a pc

There was actually someone who developed a working hard disk storage driver for windows mobile but last I checked the site no longer offered it. Searched for days trying to find the file elsewhere. No luck. Cant think of the company that made the driver.

I'm bumping this as I am also after the same sort of program / utility.
I want to be able to access my External HD and view / play files off it... anyone able to help me out?

Maybe with a external powersupplied disk

Correct
Our Hermes has no usb host support. I found a topic at forum.brighthand.com which suggested the host functionality could be added with a usb host driver. I found the software (attached zip) but alas... Though I did exactly as the 'manual' (readme.txt) explained, the usb-stick did not appear in my explorer.
Possibly an external drive with external power supply might work because the hermes usb port is simply not powerful enough to supply the power to the usb-stick. However I did not "explore that possibility" (don't have one ) and chances are 'just a driver' is not enough and hermes lacks "usb host hardware".

but i doubt that it's a general thing
many pda's have usbhost in the cpu itself but htc never connected those connectors
so it's not wired to the connector they have their own usb chip
so if the post you read said it about any other pda then htc based one it could be that that manufactor did connect the usb but dident supply the driver which would then be fixed with what you found

Sounds like there could be the potential for a hardware hack...

heh, nice try. but it will end like GPS HW hack on the TyTN (aka Hermes). it is not worth it, I mean there is easy way, just buy device with GPS integrated, or buy external. I have electronic skills and proper tools, I can do such things but it is too complicated. in that hermes was problem, that antena was not properly connected and you can never get a GPS lock. I guess that with usb host is the same. missing circuitry.

The USB host port of the Samsung CPU is used to connect to the internal GSM/GPRS chipset. So no chance to break it up!
If someone would ever hack this hardware part, the result would be a hermes without radio.
The engineers at HTC used the USB host port to achieve the necessary bandwith for high speed data connection to the GSM/GPRS chips from Qualcomm.

IrDA on X1

I have a Scuba Diving computer that I use via IrDA on the Dell Axim that my X1 has just been purchased to replace.
Can anyone tell me if it would be possible to use an external USB IrDA dongle with the X1. I've only seen Windows XP/Vista drivers listed against these dongles.
What would be involved in developing a driver?

This might be tricky, as I read somewhere on the forum that the USB port is not powered, and therefore connecting dongles (including e.g. USB drives) is difficult.
The last I saw was that it might have been possible to connect the X1 to a powered port adapter, into which USB dongles were attached.
Would it not be easier to connect X1 to a Bluetooth / IRDA dumb client which is in between the IRDA device?

You're right on this one. It's not possible to connect USB devices to the X1 because there's no host. Even with a seperate power source, the X1 will not recognize it. Look at it this way, whenever you connect the X1 through USB, it'll act as a slave, waiting for input. Dongles need input themselves, so both devices will keep waiting for each other forever... It's like a bad fairytale!
