I am using the HTC Dock application. Does anyone have any advice on how to create a hyperlink that will point me to a web page, so I can hard code a button to it under the applications? What I am trying to do is create a Launcher App that starts my Google Documents Page.
i.e. iexplore http://docs.google.com/m
I just made a shortcut to www.gmail.com to open in Opera Mobile.
The LNK (shortcut) file is a text file with the location of what you want to run in the contents. My process went like this...
1. Open Total Commander (free)
2. Browse to Programs folder.
3. Copy existing shortcut.
4. Change properties of shortcut (using Total Commander still) to point to the Opera executable.
5. Used the text editor that is built into Total Commander to open the file.
6. Added a space and then www.gmail.com on the end of the line.
7. Tested and it works.
I got the idea from this article I found while Googling for the same thing:

Guys, great site, especially now since I've got my vario II .
I could not find anything on site about it. I installed different media player on Vario II, I didn't like so deleted it later. Now when I click on *.mp3 file it says "there is no application associated with *.mp3", but if I load this file from Windows Media player, then it plays. Does anyone know how I can change to the way it was before. Hard reset does not help... strange, but when I do hard reset it does not remove all the programms that I installed on Vario II. Thanks.
Install Total Commander on your device. Then, open it up and find an MP3 file in the (total commander) explorer window... Shift-tap, and hit Properties. Go to the Associate tab, and if the filetype is associated correctly, it should read .mp3 -> MP3File. If you hit the Associate button underneath, you can open up the advanced parameters for associating the file.
The correct settings (well, the default settings anyway) are:
Command:
wmplayer.exe
Parameter:
"%1"
Icon file:
wmplayer.exe
Index:
-2002
You can also scroll through the list of icons contained in the .exe once you choose the file. You can also hit the [>>] buttons next to the Command and Icon file boxes to choose the application file for the Command and Icon file respectively... You might think "wtf?" but as soon as you follow the steps above in Total Commander, you'll understand what I'm on about.
Christopherwoods, many thanks for this.
I downloaded Total commander 2.0, but this version does not have Associate function. Could any one advise the version that has it or possible help with the link where it can be taken.
Thanks.
Just an update on the issue. If someone has similar problem Total Commander 2.5 has the Associate Tab to change atributes of files. So *.mp3 files are recognised correctly now.
More specifically, I want to be able to open AVI files with Coreplayer instead of WMP
Anyone know how I could do this?
I think you can try to find a program called Advanced Configuration Tool. It has a menu to change file associations of windows mobile.
I tried it but it didn't seem to change anything (tried to change ".txt"associated program from mobile Office to Notes, but it still opened it with Office)
I would also recommend to try Resco Explorer, which is an alternative file browser. It has an "Open with..." option when you right-click on a file you want to open.
GSFinder also allows you to change file associations. A great file browser, and free too!

File Explorer Extension
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-file-explorer-extension.html
Adds: # Resizable header for easy sorting by file name, date of last modification or size
# Tree view of folders; you can now jump easily from a location to any other on your device in one step
# Show extension option for those who ask themselves the same question I do: “What type of file is this?
# Icon view that enables the display of files as icons similar to your desktop computer
# Real time image preview; now you don’t have to open several files in order to send the one you desire
# Open with Program allows you easily select an application to open the specific file you select (useful in case you don’t have the correct file associations or when you want Album app to open your images instead of Windows default picture viewer.
# File property context menu for easy renaming and attribute changing
# Open all executables with Parameters in case you need a special parameter when launching an application
# Sending shortcut to Programs for instant shortcut creation of executables placed directly in Programs folder in Start Menu.
open with program gives you the option to "Associate selected Program with this file type"

Click to collapse
am i missing something?
a) open core player - press open buton (the little one like a triangle) - go to location of your avi file - select avi file - press ok
for me it works with no problem
b) open core player - menu - tools - preferences - select page - file association - check video files box
c) open resco explorer - go to your avi file location - select your file by long pressing it - on the pop up menu select "open with" - check "always use this program..." box - select core player - press done
b) and c) should work even when you open your file from file explorer or resco explorer, etc.
good luck
I'm just wondering if there is a possibility to create shortcuts in the Programs-Tab of TF3D of applications that are not installed but just run by clicking the .exe-file in the file explorer.
Like it is with GPong2D.
Does anyone know?
yep, just use a good file explorer like total commander (the stock file exploer may work). go to where you have the .exe storied and copy it. then go to windows/start menu/programs and just paste the .exe there. you can now launch it from the programs list. and when you use tf3d to add a program to the launcher it should show up. hope this helps
Hi at all,
Often I need to use a simple text editor instead of a more complex (and heavy) programs (like word) just for create or edit simple text files, then I have written a very simple applicatation to view a text files (txt, log, bat, ...).
Notepad is a simple text editor with the possibility to open and save documents in differents text format. The notepad functionalities are intentionally left simple for not to be too heavy.
Funcionalities:
- Context menu' with Cut, Copy and Paste commands.
- Clipboard shared with other applications (is possibile to copy text from other application (like word) end paste in notepad, and viceversa)
- Insert today date (from edit menu' and from context menu')
- Delete current file from file system
- Open and save files in any folder browsing file system (instead of classic open file dialog)
Prerequisities :
- .NET Compact Framework 2.0 ( www.microsoft.com )
Installation.
Download zip file
unzip in any folder and copy CAB file on device.
Use fileExplorer to found a CAB file and run it.
It will be installed and will be created an icon in Program Files.

I have an exe that I found that I would like to add to my programs list. Is there a quick way to do this?
I can run it from file manager, but would like it to show up on the start menu or in list of programs
What you need to do is copy the file into
my device / windows / start menu / programs. Then paste it as a shortcut.
Hope this helps.
the in built file explorer wont let u do that. try total commander
When i right-click (hold the finger to the file) i get the following menu where you can see : Send shortcut to programs. It becaomes available in programs then.
Create a shortcut to the exe file using your file explorer and place shortcut in /windows/start menu/programs.
Thanks for everyone's help! I got it to work.
Glad you got it sorted.
