problem with switching flight mode - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

i sometimes press the flight mode accidentally and want to change it back, but it seems that the BA gets stuck on flight mode, so i just soft reset to fix it. how can i switch off flight mode without having to soft reset all the time? any simpler solution?

solution
use this application
1. extract the zip.
2. put the flightmode.exe in windows folder.
3. put the shortcutflightmode.lnk in programs folder.

thnx. but which programs folder do you mean? there is nothing in \windows\programs.
edit: i tried the flightmode.exe file and placed it in \windows but i still cant switch off flight mode after switching it on. what am i doing wrong?

i think zhenius is talking about the .lnk that has to be
in the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs not in \Windows\Programs
and yes... the .exe doesnt seem to work all the time to turn on the phone "sometimes" -- sometimes it work, sometimes it doesnt.
but it never fails to turn it off.

cab
no worries try da cab

silversamurai, pinoy ka pala. anyway, actually, turning the phone off is not a problem, i do it a lot of times in a day anyway, but i jst wanna minimize it by at least having a fix to the flight mode problem. help very much appreciated.

yup. pinoy to pre.
i may not know the innards of the FlightMode switiching but one thing is for certain. it doesnt have a loop inside to determine whether the phone is on or off... i tried turning on the bluetooth and when i did the flightmode toggle "on/off" it successively turned itself (the bluetooth) on/off too... leaving the phone still off.
that's why im searching for a phone module diagnostic program... i want to know what makes the phone tick
i think i bought a "GSM" phone, zhenius... it may have been blocked by the NTC, because i cant get any signal from any network, i know the phone is working because it's scanning for half of it's on time, im going back to GH tommorow to have it swapped back or get my P9,000($200)...
......
Footer: Pinoy ACRO Jargon (for those who dont know)
GSM - Galing Sa Magnanakaw ("Came from a thief")
NTC - National Telecommunications Commission
GH - GreenHills... (Cellphone Flea Market)

i guess i'll have to live with the flight mode problem for now. i'll just be more carefull in commmanager.
haha ang malas mo naman. but have you looked in the forums if there is a way to fix that? maybe its just a signal problem or you installed something?

turn off the flight mode... turn on the bluetooth.. then turn on the phone and turn off bluetooth

Hard Reset
Hello, I too had the Flight mode problem. I eventually hard reset/formatted my Angel and reinstalled Helmi ROM (not from backup) and this solved it. It works all the time now. I also upgraded to 1.15 radio before the hard reset, but this did not fix the issue. The truth is I had installed a lot of rubbish on it and this may have caused the problem. On this install I limited myself to using the cabs that were listed in the WIKI.
Hope this helps, it's a pain to hard reset but if you use the flight mode a lot, it's worth it.

i dont wanna do a hard reset again. did it a couple of times already. i'd stick to soft resetting for now. thnx anyway.

XDA II Turning itself on

My XDA II keeps turning itself on, as if a program is waking it up.
I have checked that no programs are running using the option under Start/Settings/System/Memory.
Is there a way to see what processes are running in the background?
It does this even when stationary on my desk so it's not an accidental button press.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I'd appreciate any suggestions on tracking this down as it has a huge impact on battery life.
Thanks.
yup... mine was caused by Activesync. Make sure you have all the settings set to "Manual".
You can also download "Notification Check" by Scarybearsoftware. It will go through your PDA and look for extra events that don't belong there.
For some time I was getting a calander event for some birthday that didn't even exist!
yep, here too
I notice that it turn on after upgrading from 1.66 to 1.72
I'm not sure that could be for this...
I'll try "Notification Check"...from scarybear software
I had this and it was doing my head in! But using the check notifications did not help. I thought that possibly some of the games I installed to my SD card may have caused the problem.
So I copied everything off the card, and formatted it in the pocketpc (resco explorer), not from a card reader! Then I copied everything back and since then not a single un-intentional turn on.
Cheerio
Howard
Well, it didn't fix it for me either. I'm now testing with the Storage Card removed.
I'll post back if I find anyhting.
Another problem is when your GPRS connection activates itself!! soo annoying.
Taking the storage card out made no difference.
So far, however, with Flight Mode turned on it seems to be fine.
If this is the case then that would be really annoying.
What would be going on with Flight Mode Off to cause the XDA II to wake up?
With the radio off, GPRS is also off (as is BlueTooth and IR).
Is GPRS turning the device on?
Immediately after the device powers itself on, tap the signal meter and see if GPRS is connected.
Do you have a POP3 or IMAP4 Email account set to retreive messages at a regular interval?
Thanks, I'd already checked those.
The radio off was a red herring. It woke me up at 02:06 for no reason that I coulod find, with radio off.
I'd really like to find this before doing a hard reset so that I can fix it again if necessary and posting here will help others.
There's nothing worse than curing a problem and you don't know how.
My feeling is that it is being caused by some program you have loaded . . . or worst case, by a combination of programs. Unfortunately, if that's the case, the most likely way to track down the culprit will be to -
1. Hard-reset your device.
2. Run it for a time with no additional programs installed to make sure the problem is gone.
3. One at a time, install a single additional program and run it that way for a while to see if the problem occurs.
4. Only after proving that the problem does not occur with that configuration do you install another program.
5. If the problem occurs after installing a program - Hard-reset the device again and install only that program - then you know if the program itself is causing the problem or if it is a combination of programs.
This does not necessarily sound like FUN . . . but I can't see a better way to positively identify which program is causing your problem.
HTH
Thanks for that. That is my thinking too.
I'll do that when I've got a few hours to spare and I'll post the results, identifying the offending program.
ON and OFF
I have the same exact problem.
And I did found out that this is some of the program I install.
Example : SPB Pocket Plus (also other Today's plugin)
I did a hard reset, and try with out any program, then ad one program, then two etc..........until I found out that SPB was the one.
unfortunatly I love some of the plugin, but I have to get rid of it, if I don't want my battery to fall off in one day.

This is curious, as I have SPB Pocket Plus 2.0 installed, and I have never experienced an unintended/spontaneous turn-on (of my imate anyway ).
try turing battery monitor off in sprite backup
and also turn off the battery bar thing in spb2
that sorted my probs out
Turning on
I use Pocketplus and don't have a turning on problem, except when cradled, in which case it continuously tries to sync, even with everything set to manual.
Don't think Pocketplus is the cukprit.

Device keeps turning on - help please!

I tried searching for the reason/solution but could not find anything.
Basically my device keeps truning on. I read somewhere that it's due to a fault in the radio rom. Does anyone have any knowledge/solution for this?
Thanks
It seems very strange to me, which programs are installed in your phone?
If it's related to radio you can just try to flash the latest radio 1.38.00.11 (ripped by Pof) without losing any of your data to see if this resolves your problem.
pof's Trin_Radio_1.38.00.11_Only_SSPL rip
Thanks

Do you have Exchange (Push) email? Do you have set email receiving to happen after a certain amount of time?
No, good suggestion but it's not the email settings.
I've put the newer radio rom on and so far no turning on. But it's only been a few hours so far...
Still turns on - oh well !
I have this same problem with my Imate Jam, my phone is set to check email every 15mins and I think thats when it turns itself on. But this must be a bug because it drains the battery so much faster especially it the screen gets random inputs when it is in your pocket constantly.
Another suggestion - do you use Sprite Backup Battery Monitor ?
http://www.spritesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=606
or any other Weatherplugin which is checking every minutes the forecast ?

I have the same turning on issue. On mine, I know it is due to the email that is getting downloaded. Mine doesn't always do it, sometimes if I've been using wifi and turned it off, the phone will connect and check mail without coming out of standby. I haven't been able to track down exactly how to fix it. I do use DeviceLock which locks the screen so that if the phone wakes up for any reason when it is in my pocket or my backpack, buttons don't get pressed by accident.
My Dopod is turning on too and it really pisses me off.
I can be sure at 12:00am it will turn on every time.
I have reduced my power off time to 2min.

Before doing anything like flashing a different rom, start by eliminating some things
First remove your sim card and turn off the phone if it turns on by itself then its not network related nor has anything to do with your email settings.
Second try a different simcard and set the network manually to GSM and disable GPRS.
Third remove all programs that you've added(Hard reset if you have to).
Finally and if none of the above work flash a different rom.

igo8 help

ok, ive recently installed igo8 on my touch hd, my problem is i get a constant tapping when in use, annoying more than enything else. the program runs perfect appart from that.
someone please help its driving me insane
someone pleeeeeeeeeeeese help
What do you mean, constant tapping? Explain more deeper your problem when use iGO8?
If you think on lights to power off and you must tap to screen to go on, you must go to Settings -> Device -> Power Management: Backlight Always On
first of all thanks for the reply, i will try to explain further. when i open the app (igo8) i get a constand tapping sound, its like im tapping the screen again and again (which im not). when i open GPS data (on igo8) there is a green flashing light next to a satalite, the sound corresponds with the light flashing? at first i thought i was because i didnt have a signal but it still happens when i have a full GPS signal
any help at all appreciated

Hey brad,
Try deleting the "save" folder, and then adding the following to your sys.txt file
[sound]
mute_os_key=1
Hope that this helps...
Cheers,

no that didnt work mate
still tick tick bloody tick
ive just noticed that the save folder had returned? tryed to delete again (was confirmed) but when i re-open file explorer its back again?
ive tried deleting from my pc via activesync and from the handset, and yet the folder still re-appears
brad,
If it's empty, then I don't believe that it's an issue...
Here's a link to a thread about the same issue - apparently cracou111 fixed his by "just adjusting the power management in the menu of igo"??

i really do appreciate all your help
Simple, isn`t it...

Disabling Wi-Fi

Hey,
I am having problems disabling my Wi-Fi. To be honest this isn't really a problem because my Wi-Fi is faster than mobile data transfers. Having said that though, obviously i would like the option to turn it off.
I havn't changed anything today on my phone so no software changes etc. Just on 'Comm Manager' on the Wi-Fi switch the whole line is light grayed out (and therefore i cant do anything)
Tried the standard turn off/turn on, soft reset, holding power button and terminate data connection, yet it is still grayed out and still on...
Any Ideas?
Sorry if there is already a similar post. I had a quick look and search but couldn't find anything to help. Please point in the right direction if there is.

Go to Settings, Menu, All Settings, Connection, Wi-fi. There's a checkbox there for turning on and off. You may find that doing this re-enables the one on the comm manager, otherwise, you're stuck with doing it that way (for some strange reason).
I'd also recommend the Wifi shortcut on the cab thread in the HD2 themes and apps forum. I have that in my quicklinks so I can quickly toggle the wifi on and off whenever I get home or to work or a friend's house etc..
Cheers bud.
Thats turned it off, but yeh as you suspected it doesn't enable me to do it in comm manager. Do you think you could give me a link to that quick link?

Yes mate - it's in my signature - the cabs link. You want the Touch X reset and wifi cab. It creates shortcuts in your start menu, and you can then add them as quicklinks if you want.
This may well be a stupid question, but is the device connected to PC with a USB cable just now?
hicks:
Nope, not currently... It was earlier though... If that is meant to make it so you cant toggle it, maybe it might be stuck like that from earlier... I will try plugging it back in later and see if this sorts it.
Cheers

They weren't there earlier. I decided that you'd be the last person I'd search for those threads myself for
legend.
Oh and yeh seems it was a minor fault... plugged it back into comp and disconnected again, seems to be sorted in comm manager now.

Wifi connection keeps enabling itself

I've just done a ROM upgrade to 1.66.707.1, and now my Wifi connection kees enabling itself.
I'm sure that I missed something to make it not connect, but what?
Anyone here who might have a clue what it could be?
Thank you.
Hmm that sounds like something I have seen before. I had a similar issue when I had the hd2 12 button action screen installed. Do you have that?

No.. I've not installed that.
I'm also not using Stocks, Weather, Internet time sync and so on, and I thing that if I would, the phone would use the gprs option.
Tomorrow, I'll re check all applications that I'm running to see if I've missed a setting.
Im just curious.
When you disable/enable wifi do you use the comm.manager or another program???

Switch the phone into airplane mode (in the comm manager) and the startup wizard should popup. Just run through that process.

Maybe put it in airplane mode and restart it. It sounds like the issue that some others have had after installing 1.66. It runs the setup wizard in the background, and that automatically starts wifi. My biggest concern if this is the case is that your phone isn't set up to work on the network yet.
Try it anyway and see how you get on.

Okay.. I've put it in "Airplane mode", turned off and back on the phone.
Still not setup wizard.
Did the same thing again and soft reset. Still no setup wizard.
I'm going to give it some more runs, but if no luck I will install an other ROM (custom one), to see if my problem is gone.
I'll report back if I know more.
Thank you for your input.
re: isn't set up to work on the network yet
It is.. All my network connections are working fine.
I think is an issue of Wifi Toggle.
I had the same issue and stopped using it.
