Gmail and the built-in mail client

Anybody else using Gmail and the build-in mail client? It works... ok. But because the mail client only has a 'send/receive' button (and not two separate buttons), trying to send an email results in receiving ALL email since the last pop3 check. Frustrating since gmail won't recognize accessing the web mail interface as a 'check'.
Anybody got some tips?

well just enable pop3 in the gmail settings, open your htc universal, go to messages > new account > fill in the settings (auto config) and you're set.
If you are talking about something like google notify, that I don't know - I don't think it exists.

Or you can use Gmail through Pocket Internet Explorer on the device, it works moderately well now. They detect that you have a small screen device and present a cut down version of the "full" interface.

You're absolutely right, but what bothers me is that Opera 85 mobile could handle the 'proper' gmail. However it won't, because gmail detects the user agent string which can't be changed from Opera. Terribly frustrating, because it would work really nice alongside the 'fit to screen' opera feature.

I use the personalised homepage of Google (http://google.com/ig) and this will show me if I have any new Gmails along with several other RSS feeds and interesting snippets.
When I click the Gmail header I scroll down to the bottom of the page and there is a link to Basic HTML which makes life a whole lot easier.

The /ig page trick kinda works (but google once again pushes that ugly 'mobile' version rather than the 'normal' one. What would be perfect is a gmail notify -like client for PPC.

Windows Live Failed Sync Error

When ever I click sync in Windows live it comes up as failed. I get my e-mail but my contacts in messenger aren't synced. In windows live on the PPC it only shows 4 of my contacts compared to the about 30 on my PC version.
It's not like I use Live anyway, I'm more of a Yahoo user but since Yahoo doesn't support their ppc client anymore I decided to go back to MSN since my Yahoo contacts are available on my PC MSN.
So, does any one know of a registry hack to uninstal and do a fresh install of Live on the Mogul.

as Pocket MSN is replaced with Windows live in WM6, I believe this is a common problem that a Majority of folks are suffering around the world.

I've been trying to Sync my 311 contacts for the past month, but NO WAY!
also, when I become online, and any of my buddies is online, I will still see them as offline. it's always like this: "0 Online". "217 Offline" (Since the rest failed to sync), even though I'm chatting with some of'em and they are ONLINE.
Note: Synchronizing 217 contacts happened successfully (Once upon the time) and as I wasn't able to wait more than 2 hours, I decided to disconnect and go, when I tried to sync again it failed. also, it failed everytime I tried it before this ONLY half-successful experience.
I've tried to sync using the USB cable which is connected to every available internet ISP. i.e. Dial-UP, DSL, also tried the phone's WIFI, GPRS. all in vain.
I've noticed that - during the sync proccess - synchronizing folders is successfully, also, when I check "e-mail messages" in the sync options, they sync successfully, but the FAILED thing comes along with CONTACTS. also, recently, PERSONAL SETTINGS are failing to sync.
therefore, the help of an expert is needed. as this is a global problem, and I don't think that microsoft will provide us with the solution soon (not in the current generation of software)
another question: when I use resco file explorer and bluetooth, how to see my desktop computer under "my network"?
in other words: is the known lack of profiles microsoft bluetooth stack resolved yet?
I installed the provided DUN profile, but what I need isn't DUN, btw, it also says OBEX doesn't exist when I try to recieve from any normal mobile phone (for example Nokia or so)! is that normal?!!

The folks at microsoft have identified this issue and have found not a solution, but a workaround to this problem. Go to the following website if you want more details.

Basically, all you have to do is switch your live account and thal'll reset all your settings and contacts. Note that this is not a solution but it works. You can connect to messenger and your email account as long as you don't close the application, so if you have enough memory you can always leave it running in the background because if you close it and try to sync again it'll fail

I've owned HTC Touch recently & Using Windows Live.
I've faced the same Sync Problem there but now got hte solution & is working fine.
here is the process:
Open Windows Live on your device and click Menu - Account Options. select Switch Account and follow onscreen instructions.
Also Tick all 3 options which comes after entering ur Windows Live ID And password.
Not It Works Fine.

CrAzY idea for email checker

How about a program which ONLY checks if you have new mail on an account, then activates the email program of your choice ... for me it would be google for mobile. Better yet, it can just ask you if you want to open the email program of your choice. This program would be TINY so you don't have to have your entire java midlet manager and gmail for mobile open all the time.
It needs basically the same functionality as the native WM6 email system, except instead of launching outlook mobile, it can launch anything you want it to.
Example: Program checks for new mail every 5 minutes. When there is new mail (it doesn't even need to tell me what the mail is), it notifies, and asks me if I want to read new mail. If I click yes, it launches gmail for mobile, which (thanks to the jbed connection prompt skipping hack: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...ed-includes-info-new-java-midlet-manager.html ) automatically checks my new mail.
The idea is that the program is as small as possible, and checks for new mail as quickly as possible, by only checking whether or not there is new mail. It can ignore the rest of the header info.
Does this exist? Can someone make it?

Accessing hotmail on TP2 tmo usa

I am unsure of how to access this. When I go to start>programs>setup email, it shows an option for windows live mail, so i tap on that, input all the required information, and there is no option to view email. I even downloaded the program from the microsoft site and i cannot see anything related to email. When I checked the about screen in windows live it does mention email being one of the installed components. Can anyone help?

If you’ve already gone through the first time setup of Windows Live app, then try this. Open the app, tab “Menu”, then “Options”, then “Sync Options”, and make sure “Sync e-mail” is toggled on.

[Push Mail] How to configure Gmail account ?

I was wondering if its possible to get pushmail for gmail without using outlook ?
Is this possible ? Am I supposed to use IMAP or POP mail ?

If you setup mail, it will automatically setup for IMAP.
You configure for how often it checks the server.

Thanks I just did that, but the problem is it checks every 5 minutes, thats not exactly push mail is it ?? It should have the option "As mail arrives"
I tried deleting an email from my inbox, but when I check online, its still there (the actual gmail inbox) .. it seems they are not really in function are they ?
EDIT : Okay The messages got deleted in the browser inbox after 5 minutes ... So the email syncs every 5 minutes

Actually Outlook Mobile 2007/2010 still pulls from IMAP instead of receiving pushes (Microsoft doesn't exactly know about IDLE). You'll want to set up an Exchange connection. See here for more details about Google Sync.
You'll want to configure the server manually. You can find ActiveSync somewhere into your Start menu, otherwise just go to the Sense settings tab, Data Service and ActiveSync to configure the server, then follow the instructions from the link above.

ZaZu90, what domain did you choose while configuring the connection? I can't click next unless I choose a domain, since the activesync software is different and probably newer than the one used in the google instructions...

I followed Yunabeco's link, the domain was left blank.
You have to initiate the email settings from active sync, not from adding a new account.

Yes I am trying to do the same but as I said I cannot leave the domain blank, i HAVE to fill in something in order to continue configuring the connection...

I just did the Push Mail setup (used the link from Yunabeco post)
I had no problem with the instructions, but for some reason it will only get the mail when I do an ActiveSync.
The ActiverSync chedule is set to sync during Peak times (As Items arrive) and off-peak times (As Items arrive).
The Use above settings and Send/Receive when I click Send) are als set to on.
Did I miss a setting as it's not working for me the way it should, or do I need to set something in my Gmail account also?

Surprised at this. I set this up the other day on my device in order to talk someone through it and it worked. Deleted it as I don't need push mail right now.
Wondered if those who can't get it working can put down the steps they have taken to setup on their devices and we can see how we can help?
