Problems downloading email to Wizard - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Any reason why I should be failing to download Gmail and Outlook email to my MDA Vario? When gmail logs in via the messaging menu it shows that it is downloading headers but nothing shows in the inbox. As for Outlook email, on ActiveSynch it shows the number of emails that I have to be transferred to the mobile but it doesn't. What is wrong???
Also another thing, I have tried using the Gmail APP with Esmetec Java and Midlet manager but it fails. Esmetec has never worked with any java application I have downloaded. Is there a fix for this? I prefer Midlet Manager over Esmetec is there a way to remove/Uninstall Esmertec which is in ROM?

gmail java applet 1.5 has bugs.. use gmail 1.1 version.
you can install intent java midlet straight away on ur device..google for it.
FOR OUTLOOK SETTINGS
pop settings for gmail on pocket are different now
u have to add recent: for downloading emails from your gmail account.
EXAMPLE:
if your gmail email address is [email protected] then
user name for pop (downloading email) will be recent:[email protected]
user name for smtp will be [email protected] (No need to type RECENT for smtp)
is POP ENABLED in your GMAIL INBOX SETTINGS?
open your gmail inbox..click settings..then click POP and Forwarding..then click enable pop email for email starting today(sumthing like that it says)
then save settings..
then try it on ur pocket pc.
save and it wil work..mine is working just fine now..

Thanks for the settings, However they have failed to work for me. Using the gmail settings you gave me I get an "Error Syncronising" message. The old settings actually show how many emails i have but does not download them. I downloaded gmail 1.1 and it has worked on esmertec but I still need pop access for gmail.
I checked with my email and it is indeed activated unless I am missing something here. This is also the same problem with Outlook on activesync

Email Synchro - Help needed

Here's the scenario:
- On my PC I have Outlook 2000 with my Gmail POP account.
When I synchronize with Universal, it puts all my messages to "Outlook-Email". But when I set up my Gmail POP account on the Universal, it doesnt let me use the synchronized message folders to store new retrieved messages. It only allows me to create another set of inbox called "Gmail". Which is annoying because I might have some messages on my phone which I dont have on my PC.
I cant even move messages on the Universal from Inbox (Outlook-Email) to Inbox (Gmail)....
Any help, or anyway of merging and using same pop settings as Outlook on PC to send mail from the Universal??
Please Help, and Im sure some people are facing similar problems.

Gmail POP’ped to desktop and IMAP’ped to Wizard?

I would like to read my gmail email in MS Outlook on my computer, and while I am away from it, read the new only emails (the ones not yet downloaded to desktop) from my T-mobile MDA.
The way I understand it is done is to POP emails to desktop (which deletes them from the email server) and use IMAP on the mobile device to read whatever is not POPped yet. The problem is that Google’s Gmail does not support IMAP protocol. So how do I do this then, other than to change to an email provider who supports both POP and IMAP?
In gmail's POP service you can choose to either delete or archive email d/l by your device. You could read ur email from your pda then the email you just read would be archived into another folder.
I think what you need to do is change the settings in MS Outlook on your desktop to leave a copy of the email on the server for x number of days. On your PDA change the imap server settings to only download the last x number of messages or messages that were received in the last x number of days. I don't use a POP server anymore but you should be able to use the "tools" then "email accounts" then "view or change exisiting email accounts" and look for something along the lines of leave copy/copies of email on the server so that way Outlook doesn't delete them from the server.... In terms of the POP settings on the PDA make sure that it is never deleting emails off the server otherwise you are going to be faced with "dissapearing" email messages.
Hopefully this helps or someone else can be more helpful.
go to your gmail account, in the settings you can set it to be accessable through POP, do that. Dont forget to set it to leave a copy on the server
On your PDA you need to configure Outlook to accept the gmail accout.
go Start > Programs > Messaging
at bottom of screen choose Accounts
click New
enter email address click next
enter Your Name, User name, Password ( I leave the save password box ticked as I am idle ) click next
choose account type POP3
choose Name POP3 (unless you have option to choose another name you like better) click next
in server information
set Incoming as pop.gmail.com
set Outgoing as smtp.gmail.com
click the options button, page 2 of 3 check Outgoing requires server auth , check box Require SSL
click next
box now shows all Accounts as New, Text Message, POP3
click the OK top right of screen
thats it, done.

Gmail does not support IMAP unfortunately. Also, I do not want to go by the number of days or number of messages because those things are not known in advance. I only want to pop email to my computer, and read whatever is not popped to the computer from the mobile device.
tbc_borg, the instructions are helpful if I only wanted to read email from the road. But after email is downloaded to the device, Gmail does not pop it to the desktop, which is not good for me.
I think I found how to do this.
I got another gmail address, set up forwarding of everything from the main email to the second one (with the original left in the main Inbox). I pop everything from the main email to the desktop and from the second email address to the Wizard. I will be receiving duplicate emails to both desktop and the mobile device, but that is better than having only half of emails on the desktop. Any better ideas? I searched extensively, found nothing smarter (well, again, other than finding an email provider that supports both pop and imap protocols).
I had the same problem. What I did was open a second relay a/c, eg [email protected]. I then added a forward on all mails from my normal gmail account to the relay account. On my phone I have my incoming mail server set to the relay account but my outgoing server set to my normal account. This means that all your mails will be forwarded to the relay account and when you want to reply to any of them on the phone it will send them from your normal account!
Bit of a roundabout way of doing things but works fine!
WOW, good hint with the different outgoing server, decmac! It works just as expected!
But I noticed something else that is wrong. I send a test email to my main email address, it gets forwarded to the relay email address. Send/receive from computer, receive the email fine. Send/receive from Wizard, receive it fine as well. So far so good. However, when I send/receive from the Wizard again, the email message that has just been downloaded gets DELETED and is nowhere to be found on the device (not even in "Deleted Items" folder.) I wonder what I have missed in the settings somewhere.
Yeah, that's a problem. It seems to only keep a current copy of your Gmail inbox on the phone so when you do send/receive it overwrites everything. What I have done to get around this is select "Get Message headers only" and select "Include x Kb of message body" Make x big enough to get all of your messages. It then keeps my messages in my inbox until I either delete it or select "Get entire message and any attachments" in the email message.
Not sure if this would work but maybe move messages into a local folder on the phone. Haven't tried this but in theory it should work! The above works perfect for me!
Perfect! It works!
Vielen Dank!

Gmail emails not deleting?

Hi everyone,
I have searched the forum for similar problems but can't find anything. I have my email set to check email every 15 minutes. Even after I delete the emails from my phone, when gmail is checked 15 minutes later, the emails return once again as "new". On the computer version of gmail, the emails are still unread in the inbox.
How can I set the "delete" on the email tab to actually get rid of the email? (preferable send the email to the archive function of gmail)
Thanks in advance.
anyone?????
I have the save problem
Use activesync (with push) instead of POP/imap, works perfectly.
Mine did the same thing until I changed my mail settings to say "delete from server" and also "immediately" if you don't change your delete settings to immediate then it wont actually erase the mail until the next time it connects and downloads it all over again.
GMAIL not deleting - Windows Mobile 6.5
I'm running WinMo 6.5 Cell ROM on a Touch Pro 2 from HTC.
I have exactly the same problem. I delete GMAIL messages from the Inbox on my handset. Next time the phone does a Send/Receive it brings down all the new mail again from the GMAIL server. Basically the handset is not marking mail as being deleted, nor is it marking the mail as read on the server.
I'm using GMAIL in MAPI/SMTP mode on the handset as this is what is accepted by default when setting up the GMAIL account on the device.
I've no experience of using ActiveSync/PUSH for mail. How do you set it up?

I use activesync to download all my messages from google, It also pulled my calendar and contacts to the handset too, I found the instructions by going to: wwwDOTgoogleDOTcom/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299 (wont let me post outside links, so Dot = .) Also on section 11 before syncing everything, I synced each item individually first then switched them all on as I was getting errors.
ActiveSync and PUSH MAIL for Google Mail is the best alternative for being able to hardly experience inbox and retrieval errors.
to delete emails go into your inbox and when you delete, use the left softkey (the bin icon) to delete and not the sense menu.
Gmail not syncing
I had the exact same issue. I searched forever until I found what worked for me. It appears to be an issue is you restore using nandroid. Here is the link on how to do it.

Opening .eml or .msg attachments on HD2

First XDA post. Love the forum but never had a need to post before. I am a long time user of windows mobile and the primary reason I buy windows mobile phones is because of their ability to open outlook item files.
I recently purchased the HTC HD2 from T-Mobile USA that is running windows mobile 6.5 Professional. When trying to open an outlook mail attachment I receive the following error message, "The attachment is of a file type that could be unsafe. Messaging will not open this attachment".
My profession requires me to proof-read emails before the are sent. My company does this by attaching email drafts created on a desktop by Microsoft Outlook and are typically .eml or .msg files and sent over email. These file types were supported and viewable in WM5 & WM6. How do I enable them in WM6.5?
I am currently using Energy's ROM and the stock T-Mobile USA Radio but I was having the same issue using the Stock T-Mobile ROM. I am comfortable with registry edits if that's what it takes.
Please help if you have any ideas. I've searched all over the web. If anyone would have the answers, you guys would. Thank you.
So I figured it out. After weeks of downloading multiple 3rd party email applications I also created a windows live email address which can receive emails from my work email address and push them to my device and I could open them in the default messaging program.
I found that I could open the .eml attachments using the default messenger through my microsoft live account which was strange and all I ever wanted but when I replied, I did not want it to be from my live account, I wanted it from my work address.
I went through all of the settings to see what could possibly be different and found the live account was set up as a pop3 and my work account was imap4.
I deleted my imap4 settings for my work mail and created a pop3 for the same address and now I can open .eml & .msg email attachments. Yay!

So just where are those imap4 settings? Are you setting up your work email on your phone as an Exhcange client with IMAP4 settings? Or is that on the MS Live setup?
I have this issue with email from my work Exchange account to a personal email account that I have set up on the phone (Imagio/WM 6.5). I want to accept some forwarded items (like personally specific HR-related docs) and some calendar items to update my phone's calendar, but I do NOT want my employer to "own" my phone, so am not willing to set it up as an "Exchange extension" (don't want that remote control, or 90% internal email spam to deal with).

Need help setting up email - New Android user

Hello,
I am very new to Android. I just received my Note 10.1 today. I am trying to configure my gmail and other mails on it. I want to use the mail app for all my emails instead of GMAIL app. How do I do that? When I initially booted the device, I used my gmail account and it automatically configured my gmail on the GMAIL app. I configured gmail on the native mail app as well. Now I have my gmail on both places, I want to use only the native mail app. Removing email sync under settings > accounts> is causing a sync error icon and it also cause the GMAIL app to crash.
Like I said I am very new to Android, this is my first android device. Can someone help me configure this? Hope I posted this on the right forum.
TIA

Hi, Thanks for reply. So you want me to use this new id to download apps etc on the play store, but use my main id for emails?
I don't use the Gmail app either. I use the Samsung stock e-mail client so my Exchange and other e-mail accounts are all in a unified inbox. Samsung's e-mail client can be set up on Gmail to receive "push" e-mail via Activesync. In the stock e-mail client set up a new e-mail account using your Gmail address and passord. On the first set-up page you'll see a "manual setup" option, select it.
Use these settings...
Under domain\user name enter...
google\"your e-mail address"@gmail.com
Under Exchange server enter...
m.google.com
Now you'll receive e-mails as they arrive in you Gmail inbox. This method is also less hard on the battery. Go in to Settings>Application manager and swipe three times to the left until "all" applications are showing. Scroll down to find the Gmail app. Open it and press "disable." Now all your Gmail will be routed through the stock e-mail client without being duplicated in Gmail.
P.S. - Gmail via Activesync is being discontinued to new users (legacy user's are protected) effective February 1, 2013.

Thanks for your reply. I have done the first part and it seems to be working. I see mails coming to the native mail app.
But I don't see an option to disable GMAIL app under app manager. All I have is force stop, uninstall updates, clear data, clear cache. NO other options. Am I missing something.

Oops. To disable an app you always have to uninstall any updates to it first. Once you do that you'll see the "disable" option.

Ok, I did it. It removed the gmail app. I guess I am good now. Thanks.
