C# SerialPort - can't send data via (virtual) com-port - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi!
I want to write a little remote software for my pda (HTC Prophet), with which i can control some things of my laptop.
My problem is, that i can't send data via the com-port from my pda to the laptop (it's a virtual com-port because they are connected via bluetooth).
I'm using Visual Studio 2005, OS is Windows Vista, PDA is a Windows Mobile 5!
Is there anybody that can help me with solving that problem? Which settings do I have to chose so that I can establish the connection via com-port? If necessary I can also post some code!
Greetings and thanks,
Nico

What programming language (version of the NETCF) are you using?
Can't send as in?
- Can't create port?
- Exceptions thrown?
- Data sent but not received?
- Haven't written the code yet?
Not sure I'll be able to help, but a bit more info on the problem will help people to help you.
Gingercat.

-C# with .Net 2.0
-No exceptions
-Laptop receives no data (checked that with a com-port listener)
-I already have the code
concerning the bluetooth settings in vista:
-com-port 6 (incoming)
-can't set an outgoing port for the laptop on the pda (only for other paired mobile phones)
Do you need further information?
Greetings and thanks,
Nico

No ideas and hints?

Does the bluetooth stack on your laptop support the Serial Port service?

I think so! It's the Widcomm BT stack!

??
No other ideas or hints?

I need more information...so please help me

How do I start the GPRS connection?

Hello,
I am a Java programmer, usually on PC, lately on PDA using Jeode JVM on iPAQ, and yesterday I implemented my program on XDA (QTek 1010).
My problem is that the GPRS doesn't load automatically like it does on iPAQ with AirCard modem - you have to connect manually using Start -> settings -> connections -> connections -> connect.
Also, when you use the phone, the GPRS is disconnected, and you have to go through this long path again.
I have downloaded the SDK (60MB), but I don't know how to operate it...
I'm sure it's just a simple one line function call, so if someone has a link, wrote, or can make me a program that just connects to the GPRS and that's all, I'll be very thankful...
Alternatively, please instruct me on how to use the SDK and I'll create it myself.
Thanks in advance,

RE: bluetooth

RE: bluetooth
i was wondering if it is possible to send a message using bluetooth, like with the Nokia phones, where you search for a bluetooth device nearby, and then send a message.
also, when my device is paired up with my computer, i can not seem to be able to use more than one connection, e.g.: if i'm using my bluetooth headset, i can't sync the Himalaya. i was wondering if it is normal or not.
in connection with bluetooth and the computer, i can't see any service other than these two: "OBEX Object Push" and "SSA"
are these the only two service available from the device, or are there more?
thanks in advance...
p.s.: i use a Widcomm stack for my D-Link bluetooth dongle
Hi,
To chat with other devices, you can use:
http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysqlcc.html
Depending on your settings, you normally can use more services at once from your computer...
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449
Hope this helps...
Sam
hey,
the MySQL thing is not available for the Himalaya, only for a desktop PC.
i looked through the website of geekzone, but i could not find anything about multiple bluetooth connections
thanks for your help tho...
NfScLambo
PocketBlueChat.exe
hmm...can i know what the program is, and how good it is, according to experiences, so as not to mess up my brand new Himalaya, pls?
also, i went and googled on the program and found this out:
Before downloading pocketBlueChat, make sure you meet all the prerequisites:
PocketPC 2002 Device
Bluetooth capable device

does this mean that it won't work on my Himalaya?
Hi,
Sorry for the MySQL-link... The wrong link was on my clipboard... :?
I posted too fast...
I wanted to enter the link of PocketBlueChat (the other post)...
You can find some more information on http://www.thegedanken.com/Bluechat/ (this should be the right one)... Sorry...
It works great! The only problem is that the other client also needs BlueChat, but it's only one "exe", so you can beam it to your other contact!
Sam
o ok
i was hoping for something like nokia's bluejacking system
you send a person a contact through bluetooth, and this contact contains a message. i see that's not possible by default, but i wonder if there is an add on for it

ReadMe says "Phone must be a GSM device that supports sending SMS. The device must be installed as a modem over an interface such as: Infrared (IrDA), Serial Cable, Bluetooth, PCCard etc."... which makes me think that it should work?
I have a T68i at the mo (XDAII soon). Will mess about with getting my T68i paired with my XP Pro desktop which can talk BT via my TDK USB adapter.
Will report back...
Just a quick reply now... it's late here in the UK and I need some sleep
Simple answer is YES - Microsoft SMS Sender works over a BT connection.
My test setup comprised:
- PC = XP Pro SP1
- BT Adapter on PC = TDK USB running ver 1.4.2.18 of the TDK software
- Phone = SE T68i
In SMS Sender it shows an 'Available Device' as "Bluetooth Modem" which is the modem you see in Control Panel etc. Only tweak I had to do was see what COM port the Control Panel modem was setup as...
...COM5 in this test.
In the Bluetooth Configuration s/w "Client Applications" TAB I had to [Add COM port] which auto-detected my 'Bluetooth Serial Port T68i' application as it called it. This gave me the modem settings I needed.
Need to investigate exactly what setup this gave for it to work, so it wasn't quite PnP, but start to finish took me 15mins to be successfully texting my wife with HELLO and TEST1 TEST2 etc
I decided to install the latest TDK software, rather than install the Microsoft BT stack that I have, as I knew MS doesn't install a Serial Port driver by default, TDK does.
From the readme i read, the TDK can cohabitat with MS so will try this tomorrow if I have time.
Good luck, at least you know this can now be done - with the right s/w!

PS my T68i does not have a sent text in my "5 Sent items" SMS Messages folder.
So it looks like your phone simply sends the text secretly, no one will ever know

The TDK USB BT dongle I have can be found under the "go blue" drivers section.
T68i maybe but XDAII sadly not

Well I'm glad you managed to get it working with your T68i, it's just a pity it won't work with the XDA. Seems a little embarassing really but despite some effort I can't get the thing behaving properly.
I can get ActiveSync working over Bluetooth and I'm able to get network access via my XDA too.
I tried downloading and running the TDK software but it wouldn't work with my D-Link dongle. So Having reinstalled the D-Link stuff I set up the bluetooth modem on COM5 and configuring it for Dial-up networking ud think it'd work - but no such luck.
I keep getting the following message:
---------------------------
SMS Sender Error
---------------------------
Failed to connect to the selected device.
Check that the device is correctly connected and not in use by any other application.
---------------------------
OK

anybody else going to try this out and give us a helping hand?
thanks.

RAS connection - how do I do it?

I want to make a connection to a server either via GPRS or via Activesync when cradled.
I used to use the API call RasDial on an old Windows CE 3.0 programme but this does not appear to make a connection under WM5 and fails to dial up a GPRS connection. It opens the port, etc but fails to dial.
Is there a simpler way to make a connection? Do I simply try to open a TCP/IP connection and the OS does it for me?
Any and all ideas appreciated!!
Dave...
Use Pocket PC connection manager API to make
a GPRS connection. That is the PPC way. RAS API
can be used but connection manager is better for
some things.

Thanks. I found a sample of how to do this in the SDK so I will modify my code to use this instead and see if it all works.

PC <--> Mobile Devive connection

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to develop 2 applications. Both will connect each other via USB ActiveSync connection.
Is it possible to send data between them over the ActiveSync connection? Does it anything to do with serial port communication?
Thanks in advance!
You may want to look at the RAPI specs.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa458022.aspx
Or, if you need that in .NET look here: http://www.opennetcf.com/FreeSoftware/DesktopCommunication/tabid/90/Default.aspx
Cheers.
Thank you CmdKewin, I only need the native code link because I have to code the app in C++ language.
when conencted to the same network as with activesync
socket's should work ok
