hi,
i assume that your reponse is: NON, but...
when i push the hardware heyboard on the athena, the display is turned to on.
is possible to make (eassy) a program that fix the default sip to any of these:
a) NullKBD if the hard keyboard is pushed
b) other soft keyboard (i decide in config time) if the hard keyboard is not present
thank's
Strange, mine is already behaving that way. When I have the hardware keyboard attached, none of my softwar keyboard ever get activated, unless I manually trigger it. Even when I position my cursor inside a text entry field, by software keyboard does not pop up when hardware keyboard is attached.
I read that this is not the case with many of you, and I'mcompletely puzzled by the difference.
hi
what os version have you installed ?
I'musing the DopodU1000 English stock ROM released on July 27.

Would someone please tell me how to get rid of this new autocomplete, it's really slowing me down...I already tried turning off Word Completion in Settings -> Input.
I haven't seen that type of auto-complete before, but it looks rather good. What SIP are you using? Is it a new function in the latest ROM's or have you added a third party SIP?
Came with my Sprint Touch. It shows up whenever I use the built in block recognizer. Normally I wouldn't mind since it can be helpful for those really long words, but this one really really slows down my Touch and causes my strokes to be recognized incorrectly
Seemed to have figured it out, I just had to disable the Wordcompletion keys under HKLM\Software\Tegic

It also looks like this is provided by the new fullscreen keyboard SIP added to the Sprint Touch
comes in the new rom.. i cant find anyway to off it too..
I installed the new Touch Keyboard and Touch Keypad found in these pages (somewhere ?? sorry not sure...) and this now appears on the default keyboard.
Totally agree: it sucks big time. I couldn't find a way to turn it off also, so I eventually flash a rom without it
hi EliteXen,
could you be more specific which reg key under
HKLM\Software\Tegic
you changed to disable the autocomplete? thanks.
To turn off the XT9 autocomplete for non-Touch keyboards:
Go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\ and change the key "XT9SupportMSSip" from value "1" to "0"
However, to turn it off within a Touch keyboard I think you need to go to "Options" for the keyboard --> XT9 Settings --> uncheck everything...
Can't use "Word Completion" on the Touch?? (Only XT9??)
Turned off XT9 as above but apparently the normal Windows Mobile "Word Completion" doesn't work??
Is it possible to use the normal "Word Completion" or is that functionality not included since they included XT9?
(I actually think XT9 does better prediction that "Word Completion" but XT9 prevents various 3rd-party keyboards/SIPs from working ...)
Here's some info: installed the dictionary editor from http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-word-completion-dictionary-editor-v1-3-2342-39581.html and it showed no entries in the system. Added a couple entries and saved them to the main dictionary so there are entries now, but they still aren't popping up as suggestions
What would be really great is if XT9 can be enabled and NOT interfere with 3rd-party SIPs. (For me, it prevents the "macros" function in MessagEase from working...) Otherwise, would love to be able to re-enable the Windows Mobile "Word Completion" if anyone knows how...
One of my problems (mostly) fixed
Apparently I'll just be sitting around posting repeatedly to this thread all day
Okay, here's something that can help if you are having trouble with XT9 interfering with a 3rd party SIP but you want to KEEP XT9's autocompletion rather than have no autocompletion at all...
The below fix made it possible for MessagEase macros to work along with XT9 being activated, although it looks a bit funky when MessagEase macros are being expanded (as the macro is being typed by MessagEase, XT9 is trapping every character and making new guesses, and then it remembers the macro as a new "autocomplete" phrase).
So here's how to make MessagEase and XT9 work together:
1) DON'T do the registry change described earlier (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip) --> if that entry was already changed to 0, change it back to 1 because we want it active again...and if you make a registry change then you'll have to turn the device off/back on and reboot as usual)
2) from the keyboard selector (the up arrow on lower right of screen), select "Options"-->then select "Touch Keyboard" and tap "Options" button
3) click "XT9 Settings" button --> uncheck everything EXCEPT "Word Completion"
4) click "Ok" a bunch of times
Now MessagEase macros work although XT9 is try to trap every character MessagEase is writing...
[[One note: I *love* MessagEase but haven't used the macros in a long time as there was a bug that started happening due to the "macros" function (I called it Mad WM5 Syndrome: everything started going crazy and you had to reboot). So Exideas made a MessagEase "Lite" version without macro functionality that is very stable...They tried to fix the non-"Lite" version but the last one I tried (long ago) still caused the problem on a PPC-6700...So now I'm trying the non-"Lite" version again, hoping the macro function will work without causing "Mad WM5 Syndrome"...I will post back if the mad syndrome returns!]]

Well unfortunately I don't have much to add, but since you're the only one posting on this thread I thought I'd echo your desires for the standard windows word completion. I like to use the keypad at times and xt9 works just fine for that, but when I'm using my hardware keyboard I'm unable to get word completion back. I miss it!
GOod job with the work-around mentioned in your last post. I think I'd prefer the normal word completion to xt9's though, so hopefully someone can figure out a way to to limit xt9's "influence" to only those times that you're using the touch keypads.

Unfortunately, "Mad WM5 Syndrome" has become "Mad WM6 Syndrome" with the non-LITE version of MessagEase on my HTC Touch. So I'm back to using the LITE version of MessagEase without macros However, it's great using MessagEase on the Touch because you can slide right off the keyboard as there's no "ledge" between the screen and the rest of the device
Hi!
I received a Touch HD few days ago and from the first time I noticed that something doesn’t works properly.
Initially the keyboard by default was the QWERTY one. I changed it to probe the compact one. I did the change with no problems (obviously was not a difficult issue). Well not so obviously because the problem was when I tried to return to full QWERTY keyboard.
I selected the fullQWERTY in the configuration menu, I pushed the OK button but when I tried to write a new message the compact keyboard was still there. I tried to change to any other keyboard but the result was the same. I haven’t installed any keyboard so is not a software incompatibility issue.
I reset the phone, check for rom updates, etc but I cannot select QWERTY keyboard. I have search about this but the only information I found is a post in this forum with no answer.
Please, any information about a possible solution will be greatly appreciated. Just imagine a wonderful HD without its QWERTY keyboard…
Thank you very much.
I have the same issue. A full reset did fix it but then it randomly happened again. Obviously that's not ideal!
Any ideas anyone?
Might it be worth an email to htc?
You checked for ROM updates using? I'm sure there is some registry key but not really certain.
Regards,
Carty..
I have encounter the same issue. I have found out that if you go through setting and select keyboard to change..it will not work...
It seems that touchflo took over the registry.....
Now the correct way to change your keyboard is to
1. press your keypad up.
2. you should see this little arrow beside the your keypad icon
3. when you tap the arrow you will see this menu pop up to pick the keyboard layout.
This is the ONLY WAY to change the keypad
Hope this helps

I've installed Swype and really like it. I'm using SIPchange to enable it as a default. Unfortunately, XT9 will interfere with the words selected by Swype even after you've picked the right word. The only way to disable this is to manually change to Touch Input keyboard and disable XT9 on the keyboard before changing back to Swype.
I've already disabled both Spell Correction and Word Completion in Touch Input under Settings> Personal> Input> Touch Input> Options, but XT9 still turns on the next time I restart the phone.
Hi, I'm using swype too and haven't noticed any interference from XT9, but I might not have known what I'm looking for.
What are your symptoms?
I have had that happen to me before on certain Roms... cant tell you which one... usually, it works fine (I am using Topix Rom now)
When it did happen, I turned off XT9 under the settings but I ALSO opened the default keyboard and turned it off there but pressing the key.... moved back to swype after that and the xt9 word options were gone... just the usual swype dictionary/options at times.... Soft reset didn't change anything... it was all ok still
Hope this helps
Unfortunately for me, once I shutdown/soft reset the phone, XT9 is automatically activated on the Touch Input keyboard again even though everything has already been turned off in the Settings>Personal>Input. Also, it seems that the Touch Input keyboard automatically defaults to one of the Chinese input methods instead of English. Maybe that's where the problem lies. Where can I default the Touch Input keyboard to English?
BTW, I have my Locale set as Australia, so that isn't the problem.
The symptoms are: Once you've "Swyped" the word and pick the one you want, XT9 then shows up with it's word choices and either shows the same word or if I have it initial caps, make it all small letters
I also noticed that in Settings>Personal>Input, when I select Swype then click the "OK" button, it doesn't save the selection, and goes back to "Touch Input" when I open the "Input" dialogue again. I guess this probably means that some of my registry entries are toast...
That is indeed weird... do you have something like SIP change installed? I use that to start Swype by default during startup after a restart.. Don't know if that might help...
Yes, I do have SIPchange installed, but it's already set to Swype as the default.
I had the same problem and this is my partial solution.
Go to HKLM/Softwares/Tegic/eT9/IsSupportMSSIPContact
Change the Dword from 1 to 0.
this will get rid of XT9 for Swype but only if it is NOT the default. Therefore, there is the nagging inconvenience of having to change it to Swype every time your soft reset. But it is better than that nothing.
Thanks for the partial solution. It's at least better than what I'm doing now after every reboot, which is to:
1. change Swype to Touch Input
2. change Touch Input to EN so that the keyboard shows up
3. click on the XT9/ABC button
4. change Touch Input back to Swype..
One thing to note, I just went to the registry and there isn't the value you listed. However, there is the following string value:
HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\LRU_MS_InputMethod and the value is Swype.
I'm wondering if this is what is causing XT9 to activate when Swype is active.. Do you have this value in your registry? what value is it?
Quick edit to note that I added a DWORD IsSupportMSSIPContact with value "0" and soft reset... Sorry to say that it didn't disable XT9 even if Touch Input was defaulted. Guess my problem is slightly different than yours.
Yes, all those values are the same. Need ot check if you also disable xt9 using some .cab. If not then you will need to do the following:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409\Ime File
Change it to read as compime.dll
and
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409\Layout Text
Change to COMP IME
This will disable eT9. Please remember the original values should you want to revert back.
I think that should work.
have fun.
weenween, the two registry values you gave are already what is on my phone..
But XT9 still enables itself when I restart the phone. I've now resigned myself to disabling XT9 on the Touch Input keyboard manually each time I restart the phone.
In any case, thanks for your help.
I have exactly the same problem adn symptoms as GregWee. Must be becasue we both have Hong Kong HD2s where the default english keyboard is PinYin?
I have a similar issue. I have a TMOUS HD2 with QQ 2010 mobile loaded on it for chinese text entry. The QQ keypad has become the default everytime I reboot - entirely unwanted. Somehow it interferes with the contact dropdown list in messaging and email. It has something to do with the T9 staying on when entering a contact name. I installed sipchange but it does not overide the QQ default after a soft reset.
After changing between keyboards a few time it begins to work properly in email and then finally in messages. Right now, since the last soft reboot and playing around, when I am in either email or messages the stock keyboard will automatically switch from T9 to abc when I move the cursor to enter a contact name. The contacts appear as I type as they should. Swype works fine too. I have no idea what I did to get it to work but I have had the same experience several times today. Hopefully I will figure it out.
I would like to know a way to override the QQ as the default keyboard. I think this might fix the problem.
Any suggestions?
Hi!
My TF101 did its firmware update recently, and I noticed this afternoon that I can't use the QWERTZ layout for my keyboard (QWERTZ keyboard, BTW). I didn't have the problem before.
Everywhere in the settings, all keyboards (asus keyboard, dock keyboard) are set to French-swiss (that's the QWERTZ layout), and the dock is acting like a QWERTY. I rebooted, and search the forum, I discovered some had this problem in may 2011, but I haven't been able to find the thread answering the problem.
I don't know what to do, it's a real problem. I don't mind using any keyboard, even one with completely blank keys, as long as it acts like a QWERTZ. But a QWERTY is a real problem, I don't have the accentuated letters and the ç. (ç is ok, I don't really care, it's not that used, but the é,à,è, ^, etc. are used all the time).
What should I do ? Before the update, there wasn't any problem.
Thanks for your suggestions !
Edit : actually, I got my keyboard back by selecting as default input mode the asus keyboard. Normally, it switched automatically when the dock is connected, but apparently the update changed that. Anyway, I'm still interested in why such a hassle is necessary to remap dock keyboard when it should be doable in the parameters. Or there is something I haven't really understood ? I'd really like to know, I'm interested in these kinds of stuff. Moreover, I need to remap my Vaio P keyboard for the instant mode as no qwertz keyboard exists, but it's a proprietary system, so I guess I'll probably never be able to remap it...
I've recently been trying to learn german just to expand my knowledge a bit, this of course requires german characters however I am using a laptop with a UK English keyboard for which there is no way to type german characters without the old alt+numpad trick, which is great but my laptop doesnt have a numpad either as phyical keys or a Fn+something else combo.
My intended solution was to over-ride the existing alt-gr + u = ú as is default on a UK keyboard to be ü instead and managed to create this new layout with the old Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator tool here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22339
But I cannot for the life of me work out how to activate a file created with that tool as my actual keyboard layout.
The only guide I found simply said to double click the .ksc file and windows will do the rest, no, it opened the tool again. If I select project > test keyboard layout it works 100% perfectly. I did find build DLL and setup package in that menu too, this gave me a setup.exe which I have ran but my new layout does not appear as an option in control panel as a selectable layout for any language?
I have tried rebooting the system, it still doesnt appear as an option. Is it not possible to use 3rd party keyboard layouts anymore?
Rebooted (again), re-ran the setup program, rebooted again and it still wasnt there but was importable as a layout in the editing tool, rebooted yet again and it suddenly enabled itself as the active language.
So I guess its sorted but being very temperamental about installation in the first place.
Why not just install the German keyboard via Control Panel | Language. It's fast to toggle between keyboards with Win+Space. Umlauted vowels (and anything language-specific) are then easily accessible.
For single-key mapping, the old KeyTweak still works fine in 8.1. Pretty simple to use. My old KB doesn't have the Windows key, and I was surprised that it could be remapped.
That was my original workaround, but that stuck the umlauted keys ontop of things like - and ; At least with my reconfigured keyboard I can make the connection between u and ü and I no longer have to cycle languages occasionally, didnt appreciate the swapping of Y and Z much either.
Although thats another weird issue. right now win key + space does nothing because I have turned german language off again, but sometimes after restoring from hibernate English US appears as an option I can switch between, then hibernate and resume the machine again and English US disappears? Very strange, not a major issue at least.
>but that stuck the umlauted keys ontop of things like - and ;
If you're learning Deutsch, I doubt a single key remap is adequate. Have hard-copy printout of the KB layout next to you, and refer to it. Or, if you just need the occasional ä/ö/ü, toggle out, type the char, and toggle back to ENG. Although English is now my primary language, this is what I do when I need to type in my native tongue.
Have not encountered issues with hibernating and disappearing keyboards. Then again, I don't do hib. The active keyboard has an indicator on the taskbar, so there shouldn't be confusion.
