picselbrowser iphone browser - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

this is great internet browser, there are many ppl looking for it, so grab it while you can, it is very smooth, it is the perfect browser if you like panning with yo finger, only there are some pages that do not load, and on ie do load, but yeah it is better than safari on that iphone

No! Deepfish is better... officially unreleased so far though.

that the download has been removed

have you ever thought WHY the download has been removed?

technically, picsel is only licensed for use on samsung windows mobile devices.

i dont care hehe

eh, thats you right. but what do samsung and the makers of picsel think? Samsung paid picsel for the right to use it in their phones, you know.

you are completely right, but they dont think of us willing to try this on other phones when they made this browser, not that they should

Well, I don't think it's the best browser, but let's not fight over it
I've made a series of VERY serious comparisons and the alternates (Opera Mobile, Mino, NetFront, IEM + PIEPlus / MultiIE) have, in general, turned out to be better.

Yup, for the time being, DeepFish really sucks.

im surprsed that this file is still being hosted, ppl better get it while they can, a lot of ppl have been asking where they can find it
as far as browsers go, i love opera mini, it just works so good right now, the earlier editions pretty much suked, but this one (beta 2) is amazing
picsel needs major work to fit on the ppc, to many memory errors and unloading pages
deepfish is a waste of time imo, opera makes that beta version look like crap

Well, however much Adobe's Flash plug-in, speed-wise, is a piece of crap, other solutions (for example, NetFront's own Flash engine) are even worse.
And let's not forget at least we can run SOME real Flash apps, unlike Symbian or iPhone users, who need to stick with the far worse and far less common Flash Lite.

Finally the browser that we've all been waiting for.

Just seen the opera press release http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2008/02/05/
If you look under the section that says fully loaded:
Web 2.0-enabled, Widget-ready and Flash support turn Opera Mobile 9.5 into a fully loaded browser allowing users to access all their favorite Web sites such as Facebook, MySpace and more. With Opera Mobile 9.5, OEMs and operators will have the capability to include Flash Lite 3, empowering their smartphone users with access to the full Web including the ability to watch videos on YouTube effortlessly. So i was wrong first time it does have flash.

This made me crack up! Funniest post in a long time.
I'm glad the OP took it well.
I'd be very surprised if they'd release a beta to us regular customers before 2009/2010... I've completely lost my hope in Opera.
Over a year ago they told us Opera Mobile 9.0 was going to be released SOON
sounds good, does anyone know when it is supposed to be released?
Well, the situation with wm browsers is exactly like the pre-Firefox IE6 era. Please Opera, make a decent browser, release it NOW that its time has come and you will definetly be the Firefox of the WM platform!
Well, it looks it's intended for manufactures and carriers, and not for final user sales...
What has really surprised me is this:
Opera Mobile 9.5 will be available on all major platforms including Symbian, Windows Mobile and Linux, as both a standalone browser and as a SDK.

PIE (even 6.1) is rubbish. It doesnt render the page in desktop mode at all. The formatting is always wrong. The Zoom feature of 6.1 is next to useless.
at the moment the only browser that comes close to the desktop experience is Opera Mini. OM9.5 looks like the right way forward.

Skyfire hasn't started their public private beta testing yet. I signed up for it but to know that they'll be seeing what sites I surf to due to server side rendering, I think I'd take Opera 9.5 over it.
Like it's been said before in this post, Opera 9 was promised how long ago? Hopefully 9.5 comes out before WM6.1 is obsolete.

Help with SKYFIRE

If you don't know what Skyfire is please chek this:
http://www.skyfire.com/product
I have this skyfire beta but i don't live in the US and i'm not registered in their database so i can't try this amazing wannabe browser.
So i ask you if anyone could hack this beta and make it free to use for everyone.
Thank you guys, you are the best!
download skyfire beta here
http://www.savefile.com/files/1490271
Nope. Skyfire is server-side based.
Also, there are a lot of developers on here. Ask them how they'd like it if a CLOSED beta of theirs got cracked in such a manner. Just wait your turn and it'll come to you when they have a more polished product.

Skyfire itself uses a proxy, so its highly unlikely it will ever be compatible with another proxy.
Somekind of proxy... It's rendering sites on external server intead of device.
And the redering is slow for me. Uninstalled.
Works pretty fast and good for me. Thanks for pointing out the update.
It is finally getting close to the hype
I was excited when Skyfire was first released, but found that the simple things like text entry made it too much of a hassle to use compared to Iris. I see that now many of those shortcomings have been overcome. I'll still use Iris as my primary browser ( I love that most sites show me the "Iphone" version of their site ) but I'll be keeping Skyfire around this time at least for viewing flash sites. I was able to watch Hulu yesterday with Skyfire, and that was pretty cool. If thats all it was good for it would be a keeper.

+1. i dont need it to replace opera - just play video sites like hulu and thats good enough for me
does it still have problems with loading long pages and getting the bottom of them cut off?
Nice browser!
it is best browser i've seen - it requires some power, so do not be surprised with feeble htc units.
iris is ok, but no flash support, and its slower that it should at current state.
skyfire and opera mini - two things that good to have cooked into roms, imo.
416 mhz xscale is enough to handle skyfire.
loved skyfire the minute it came out, simply because of flash support and fast rendering of most sites.

Interesting thing is Opera.com is down right now (including their FTP and IRC servers).

Opera 9.7 Mobile is not out yet, wait until tomorrow, new features include:
Improved rendering engine (Presto 2.2).
Opera Turbo.
Improved Widget Manager.
Gears support.
Hardware acceleration with OpenGL ES support.
Also, some of the major issues with the 9.51 Beta is fixed.
Installation on storage card is now possible, and the Beta happily coexists with preinstalled versions of Opera Mobile.

Google Browser Claims

Hey...a couple browser issues:
1. Given my appreciation of Chrome I had reason to expect Froyo browser performance to live up to Google's 'fastest mobile browser ever claim'. I think its faster than 2.1 browser but not at all faster than Skyfire and other browsers in the Market. (Based on avg. time it takes to download certain sites).
2. Hey guys how can we experience the 'full glory of web pages if the browser uses mobile versions of sites?...Despite having desktop user chosen? Any tricks I need to be aware of?
thanks
Look up how skyfire works, that is why it renders pages faster, same with opera.
Yeah well Opera fir sure....much poorer rendering of pages....
Skyfire not so sure....those pages are as sharp as stock.
Opera. Mini and skyfire use outside servers to view the pages, tub rerender them for mobile. This is why nothing secure, I.e. banking should be done with them. Opera mobile, fennec, IE mobile, and Google (nexus one stock) browsers. Render within the phone. Not sure about steel though.

Type "about:debug" into the URL bar and hit "Go" on the keyboard [the arrow won't work]. Then go to settings > UAString [at the bottom] and change to Desktop. Unfortunately this isn't a permanent solution because it resets back to Android at the end of the session. For more convenient switching we're going to have to wait for CM6 and other Froyo based ROMs.
Why would you want to use a desktop version of a site if there is a mobile version available, thats STUPID

This is true. SkyFire for Android only proxy's the Video content. They didn't take the time to build a full blown browser for Andoird. They bought the Steel Browser to work as the base of theirs and just changed it up for the video proxy.

The claim wasn't about rendering speed but for javascript performance
Mobile versions if websites miss content.
The few I saw before changing to desktop didn't allow pinch and zoom either.
