Apologies if this has been asked before, I did search first!
Is there any way to make a shortcut to point to the brightness tab (the slider) for the backlight? The backlight app seems to be accessible by MyCPL.cpl and Backlight.exe, but using the usual syntax to get to a specific tab, ctlpnl.exe mycpl.cpl,0,2, doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Give a try to cplmain.cpl,6 instead - see my related article at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=640&more=1 . Haven't tested this on my Universal but, given that almost all WM5 devices I've tested use this, I think it'll work on the Univ too.
Actually, mycpl.cpl,0,2 was only used on some old, ppc2k2 only models like the iPAQ 3660
Nope, not working. cplmain.cpl,5 gives me the 'about' app and cplmain.cpl,7 gives me 'screen orientation' (cplmain.cpl,7,2 gives me 'text size', etc.) but cplmain.cpl,6 (cplmain.cpl,6,0 etc.) does nothing.
'Backlight' is accessible using MyCPL.cpl and Backlight.exe as I mentioned, but unless the syntax is different for these than file.ext, app, tab, neither allow you to make a shortcut to a specific tab
Interesting, will also give it try
Hi!
I am looking for such a method, too. On my device works cplmain.cpl,6. But that only leads me to the backlight options. I cant figure out how to go to "Brightness" cause hats waht I am looking for.
In the end I want to dimm my brightnes with a hardware button.
Anyone an idea? Or an programm that does that? (PocketPlus dont work for me)

If I remember correctly, there should be a button on your universal that changes the backlight setting. If you press the button on the side with the lightbulb on it (next to the slider) the brightness of your lcd changes. Tap multiple times untill you get the disired effect

Hi all,
when you got the screen folded over and facing out, any way of locking the screen?
thanks
ross
I was also woundering about that...
when you have the screen in phone mode, there must be some way of locking the screen!
well if nobody here knows, o2 won't know!
Not sure if this answers your question but mine is set up thus:
In 'Settings/Buttons/Lock' set 'When device is off' to 'Lock all buttons except Power Button'
I keep the screen outwards and use the power button to lock/unlock.
One snag is that the phone seems to unlock itself when receiving an incoming call. I therefore can accidently cancel it trying to get the damn thing out of my pocket.
I do believe it locks the screen during installation of the ext rom..
This is done by running tpdisable.exe from the windows directory..
A word of warning though: IT'S DISABLED!
Unless you bind tpenable.exe to a button FIRST, you're screwed..
(Ok, a soft reset should fix it..)
I think they are called tpenable and tpdisable...
I don't have the device yet, so I can't check right now.
When I was looking at the config file, there was no mention of an exe, it was like a command (unlock your ext rom and take a look at it).
I got the impression this function was now embedded in the OS hence no exe. Probably wring of course....
Then it should be possible to make such a program, and assign it to a button..

I've got a question: when my TyTN was in for repair, I used a Nokia E61. It had a cool feature:
whenever you don't use the device for 30 seconds, the backlight would "fade out" to the minimum (not 0, but 1 on a scale of 10). Now that I have my TyTN back; I sort of "miss" that in my TyTN. Is ot possible to create something that would do this?
Ooh. That is a pretty cool feature.
I second the request.
Suprised I haven't seen that yet.
that means an process should always regulate the backlight and but it back to maximum as soon as an input happens. sound a bit like wasted cpu load
edit: i want it! ^_^

mmm on my PC I have this option switched on. Tried it with Resco Explorer on the TyTN, and who could have guessed: I have the files.
Now the next issue: where do I put them? Tried the /windows directory, but I thought it better not to replace the existing backlight.exe without "proper guidance". Anyone has experience?
<edit> Heck, tried it anyway. I can't open the backlight settings now... (thank god I made a copy of the original backlight.exe).
Any advice?

If it disabled your backlight setting that's a good sign, there must be another file referenced in the mui which needs to be included. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Stynos I sure hope you did do a backup of your old backlight files. If you haven't, you can probably get them back with recovery software or from someone with a TyTN. I should of added a warning, just thought it went without mentioning.
removing these "new" files and soft reset should restore system ones.....ehhh..
btw, it is not working on wizard, too...
There's another files in the directory called "backlight.dll" maybe include that one too.

What option tabs do you have under Settings/System/Backlight ?
I've got |Brightness|Battery power|External power|
In Settings/System/Power I have |Battery|Advanced|
If you've got these same settings, one of them might be conflicting with the other.
For example I've got Settings/System/Power|Advanced| "On battery power" set to "Turn off device if not used for 5 minutes"
Then in Settings/System/Backlight|Battery power| set to "Turn off backlight if device is not used for 30 sec
The last setting just lowers the backlight

Your last setting is "Turn off backlight", I thought it would add an option to dim the screen to a lower backlight setting. Because I have the turn off backlight feature

The setting says that, but it doesn't actually turn it off. It just lowers it to 1 on a scale of 10 (I can still see my today screen). Tapping the screen or pressing a button lights it back up.

Please don't re-post this information, as I have now built a new version of the program that should work on the Sprint Touch without any special instructions required. It's been tested by Sprint users and seems to be working well so far.

Very Nice job. Very Nice, indeed.
Personally, I wanted the photo to launch the HTC Camera Album.lnk the way you can scroll with your finger & zoom, etc.
So, I created the Photos button in MediaHub to be:
\WindowsHTCAlbum.exe
Params: -mode:camera -type:image

If you look at the post at the top of this page by Carlos, you'll see he says, "For installation instructions please see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324556."
He also gives these suggestions:
- If you're installing to Storage Card, try installing to the Device instead.
- If you still get the error, try resetting your device and installing again - this honestly worked for me!
- Check there is enough free storage space on your device.
- Try a manual installation (zip file coming to first post shortly)
There are many posts about this in other threads, so you should be able to find the info you need.
Carlos,
Any reason to upgrade to 1.29e if d is working well?
Secondly, if we do upgrade - do you have to uninstall first? or can you overwrite the program?
I don't seem to be able to see a changes history. I'll keep looking.

I have spent a good deal of time getting my Sprint Touch to display my local weather by using N2A's "patched" HtcHome.dll which points at a server that does support my local weather (unlike the Htc's accuweather server). Now I would like to use 'Touch Settings' to easily customize what apps get launched from my 3x2 app launcher and the media hub buttons, but I'm not sure if I dare do this yet since I haven't seen anyone explain how 'Touch Settings' accomplishes displaying local weather.
Can anyone tell me how it does this? My concern is that it may conflict with the patched home plugin I already have working.

Hi SprintTouchGuy
Touch Settings updates the registry keys at \HKLM\Software\HTC\HomePlug\Weather\Settings
I don't think this should change your server settings etc, and it certainly won't change which .dll file your weather is pulled from.
Why not do a registry backup of that key, try out Touch Settings and if there are any problems, just restore your registry? I think you'll be OK with it.
Hi all
I have a new beta of Touch Settings v2.0 that I'd really like a couple of people to test for me, in particular people with Vogues and Touch Duals, especially pp18 and that other kind person who volunteered.
I have posted it in:

....if you could keep feedback in that thread for now please? Feels like we have too many threads going at once otherwise and gets confusing!
Thanks,

One thing I noticed would be interested in finding out if other Sprint Touch users are seeing: after updating my "On Demand" app launcher's button to open a different app in the mediahub, the "Demand" in the text "On Demand" is now half cut-off. I assume this text (which I would like to change anyway) is stored in the registry somewhere and is not editable via Touch Settings yet. I can spend some time researching which settings to manually change in the registry, but if you are going to add this feature soon to the app, then I won't spend the time.
Thanks again, regardless...

Thanks Carlos...I can't believe I didn't think to at least try tapping in there! (Oh me of little faith...)
Next minor issue:
I made my bottom mediahub button say "Voice Recorder", and the word "Recorder" wrapped to a second line which is half-way cut off. I see that text wraps on the middle button as well, and although it doesn't get cut off it does look off-center vertically. I don't know if there is any way to adjust the text vertically with the magic that you do, so for now I'll try to come up with one word labels for the buttons to avoid the issue.
I also am curous what parameter to use to get the HtcAlbum.exe to launch the Camera Album to display just videos, like the 2nd-row 3rd button in does in the 9 button app launcher that comes on the 3rd tab of the HTC Home plugin. Does anybody know what I need to supply? I believe there is a mode: option, but when trying "mode:video" it still only comes up displaying pictures, and it does so in portrait view, not in landscape view like it does from the app launcher (which I prefer). My apologies if this has been discussed already...thanks!

Carlos - this is kind of a QA issue with the interface. Can I make the suggestion that you change the color of that box from gray to something like yellow? The first few times I opened the app I thought it was the typical "grayed out" box -- meaning I couldn't edit it. Whereas when I see a yellow box it grabs my attention and suggests I should be doing something with it...
Is there any application that can set backlight level to half when you open it the first time and when you open it for the second time to set the backlight level to max and viceversa ?! And if there isn`t ..can it be done with mortscript or smthing because I want to link it to a hard button in AEbutton so it will be easier to switch from low backlight (for when I`m indoor), to max backlight (when outside), much easier. Thanks.

I`we searched too and didn`t found any only a program called Backstep but that is for Compaq Devices with pocketPc 2002 and I have an ETEN Wm 6.1 nothing else...I found a lot of apps that can toggle backlight on or of but none of it is what I need . I don`t need a profile manager app, I need an app that can toggle half backlight to max backlight and max backlight to half backlight when I push a hard button (I will map it with aebuttons).
Still nobody can help ?!
look up mvbklight. It's a small today plugin that you can slide to the brightness you want, or just click in the middle for 50%. You can skin it also.
Just make a mortscript request. If there isn't a script out there yet, I'm sure someone could code one in all of 5 minutes.
On my windows folder (Open Touch v4 black lite) there is a program called backlight.exe so I just assigned a button to that. Since the default backlight switch was on battery power it's very convenient and one backlight.exe is running I can use DPAD left and right to increase/decrease backlight.
Thank you all for the answers... I think I will map a button to ,,Scenarios" application to be easier to change the light when I want....It`s still not what I want but this is good too Thanks again. I`ll try in the ,,morscript example" Topic too

Hi,
I would like to disable the footprint-application from the right hardware-button, but it dosn't work. In registry under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/shell/keys I've made two new entries (40C1 and 40C2), so I can choose now the two hardware-buttons in preferences. But when I lay another program to the right hardware-button, this programm starts together with footprint...
The left hardware-button is no problem, it works fine with every programm I want
Thanks

(sorry for my bad english, I hope you can understand my problem...)
Looks like it is somehow hardcoded into the TouchFLO interface. I managed to "unmap" the left key (simply by uninstalling TomTom), but I had no success with the Footprints key so far.
I think that some program or registry setting is responsible for these keys mapping.
I've managed with ae button plus to assing a different application to these keys, but the default apps run again with the new apps. And I think that because you uninstalled tomtom, just they didn't find the app and for this is not running with the new assinged app.
I don't think that is touchflo related.

Sure, I know it just doesn't find the app, but at least it got me rid of TomTom (I am an iGO 8 user). I admit it's quite lousy workaround.
I think I found something.
Seems that the function of these buttons loading as a service.
I've managed to unbind the left button by stop the NaviService(NPS0 and I think that
the service App Service(APP1 is responsible for the right button, but I cannot stop this service.Needed further research though.
EDIT:
I've managed to disable it from registry(HKLM\Services\App). I changed Context and Index values to 0 and seems that the button is unbind now!
Needed to set these services to not automatic start also. This can be done with FdcSoft Task Manager 3.1
Ok, after some time playing around with my registry, I found a workaround how you can start a different program with the footprint button:
(BTW I have a German version so I'm not sure how the features are called in English, so if anyone can describe what I write next clearer, please feel free. Thx)
First you have to go to system preferences. In the system tab you'll find an option where you can make some adjustments about A-GPS and Place Settings. In the left tab you can activate and deactive A-GPS and tell your device which provider to use to access it. In the right tab you can tell the device not to notify you if some HTC software wants to start this feature which monitors the place where you are. Check this box.
This will keep the Google notifier to pop up every time you press the footprint button.
The go to the registry:
\HKLM\Software\HTC\FootCam
and simply change the path in there to any program you want to use with the button. e.g. \Program Files\ThumApps\ThumbCal\Thumbcal.exe
Well, works well, but do you have any idea if disabling these services does not cause any other issues?
After a hard reset I did the following
- installed the 40C1 and 40C2 reg key
- set the the NaviService(NPS0) to manual
Both buttons can now be used by Windows without any issue so far. No more changes were needed for me. Hope that helps. (I have a HTC Guide, that is the O2 branded version)
Sebastian
I mentioned that few posts above.
The problem is that when the NaviService doesn't run, NaviPanel doesn't start automatic when in carkit mode, even if this option is checked in carkit settings screen.
