Accessing tapi functions

Hi everybody
I'm using a WinCE Pascal and developing a smartphone application.
My problem is that I can't import the tapi's functions using their names, so
I must use the functions index.
I didn't succeed to find a table of the functions index, and I can't copy tapi.dll to the PC (and use dumpbin to view the exports list).
What can I do?

Tapi.dll is part of the ROM so you can't copy it.
There are many tools on this site that let you dump ROM, the simplest to use is mamiach's TestWM5.exe.
Since you only need one file, I will post it, but this is from WM5 device. I'm not sure if the ordinals are the same for all OS versions.
PS: You might want to look in to switching to c++, the transition from Pascal is easy (at least it was for me) and the language opens up more options.

Thanks for the tapi.dll (and WM5 is my target OS).
According to use c++ - If I couldn't solve this problem then I was using eVC++, but I prefer to use FPC (Free Pascal Compiler) for WinCE, altough of all its disadvantages (no debugger/emulator, poor IDE, no complete library of static binding - fit to WinCE because of its multi OS ability.
The language itself is equivavalent in its abilities to c++ (including definition of operators and so on)

Reading the registry with Visual Studio 2003

I'm developing a small application for my HTC Wizard, which I'm programming with Visual Studio 2003.
I need to open the shell application for M3U files, which I've tracked down to HKCR\M3UFile\Shell\Open\Command... but now I can't figure out how to either read that key to open the relevant player, or to execute the m3u file directly.
Because I'm using VS2003, I don't have access to system.win32 with the compact framework, so what techniques have others of you used to read or write to the registry?
Also, just as a side note, how do you find the current path?

There is no real concept of current path in CE. If you want to know the path your EXE is in, use GetModuleHandle(NULL) -- it'll return the fully-qualified path name of that process's EXE, from which you can parse out a path.
I'd advise against using the compact framework; .Net is a loser on PPCs as it just slows things down, taking up extra memory & cycles on a platform where both are in short supply. Use the real Windows APIs instead -- i.e. call RegCreateKeyEx/RegSetValueEx.

And if you choose to use Win32 API you can just call ShellExecuteEx()
and not mess with the registry.

RegQueryValueEx is what you need. Just set the appropriate type and buffer.

I'm always willing to learn new stuff... are there any good resources on programming for PPC without using .net?
I know there's EVC++, but I've installed it, and now I don't know what to do with it!

You can either use EVC++4, which is free but has an aged, not-so-standard C++ compiler (since it based on VC++6...but it only means a few quirks), or you can use Visual Studio 2005 which is supposed to replace EVC.

Jon, not to state the obvious, but there are many c++ tutorials for the PPC on the interweb.

I have no prior experience with C++ - I bought the C++ For Dummies book in a charity shop a month or so ago, but it seems to refer to software that isn't available any more!
My core experience is with PHP, and recently I've been more interested in VB.NET for small apps at work, but most of what I want to do is with Windows Mobile - for which, all I have is Visual Studio 2003, and my co. won't fund me buying VS2005 as I got it for an old project that I still maintain, and anything new I need to write for work I can do with VS2005 Express...
That said, I'm not afraid of learning a new language, especially something as powerful as C++.

C++ for dummies is excellent, the best I've come across so far.

I'm currently unlearning and then relearning my c++ - one thing I've learnt coming from other languages - c++ requires discipline. It's not about shortcuts, you build up from the basics and keep going steadily. But you need to be logical, and prepared to put in the effort. So discipline - it's been a long time since I've had to think about that!

How To develop a Tool for PPC

Hello,
in our company are a lot of Windows Mobile Devices in use. These should like our Client PC's listed in OCS Inventory.So, i'll try to develop a OCS Agent Client.
Functions needed:
-read out hardware Specs
-read out installed Software
-read out User Name
-send this Information over Port 80 to a Server
-nice to have: run as Service and auto send this information to the Server
Tools I've got:
-Visual Studio 2008
Skills I've got:
-writing c++ console apps
What I need:
-a Tip which programming-language I shoul use
-Some links where i can find the the functions in this language which I need
What I've done:
-search in xda-developers.com
-search in MSDN(but I don't know which language i should use)
-wrote small (stupid) apps like an calculator for ppc in visual basic as little test
-I tried to do the same in visual c++ -> without any good product, i don't know how to make a gui for the functions.
I hope you can help me, espacially in the language thing.

VB was good for the first steps, but after reading in msdn i decided to use Visual c#(a can use c++ although but i think c# is better for this!?) instead.
So, registry Values i can read out. But all the other stuff....I don't know how to get this out. "You should use the API functions" i read every where, but that helps no step. I don't know which API and i don't know how to speak with it.

[Q][Help] Need code for editing and saving file in VB.NET

i'm trying to develop a program, in VB.NET. i call it wDiary stands for Workout Diary.
The purpose is to let the user choose 4 (or more) sports to save progess/daynotes of, and to view the txtfiles, like a dayly diary in a calendar.
i have comed to that part where i'm want to save a file in a spesific directory.
like save:
"Jogging - " + date".txt in %MyDocuments%\wDiary\Jogging\
print textbox1.text in line one and so on

I think your app should have been called wDiary - as in a diary of events
I'm not taking the mick here, just offering a bit of help As for the file editing, what language are you doing it in? C++.net, C#.net, VB.net?
If it's vb.net you're using - this site has some decent basic file routines (checking if it exists, adding text, appending, closing etc)

You should be able to use the standard System.IO.StreamReader and System.IO.StreamWriter Functions. I can code this in c# if you can translate to VB.net.

Actually let me make another suggestion. Sometimes when writing a small app to collect data I use a very lazy yet very usefull feature of .net DataSets.
I databind the controls to the dataset by dropping the dataset on the form and assiging the bindings via autogenerated bindinsource component. All I do now to read and save are the following lines of code

It might not be pretty but it does the trick. Also less code and no need for parsing XML

I have one more thing, if sombody can help. the Design seems perfectly in Visual basic. put when i deploy it to the emulator it looks smal and rubbish. the buttons (png.files) gets streched in width and pressed in the height. so, how can i design in 480x640 (VGA) for my Touch pro :/

I've set my emulator settings to USA WM 6.1 Classic and it works fine when deployed to my touch pro. If your screen resolution is fairly high (I use 1280x1024) you could use USA WM 6.1 VGA but it filled my entire screen. You might have better luck if you use 1600x1280 or whatever (or run multi-monitor)

HTTP Server on WM6

Hi Guys!
I'd like to create a webserver on wm6 so I can contact to Localhost (127.0.0.1) to retrieve Phone info.
Purpose is a Flash app which uses GPS and Camera (Those or not accessable with actionscript)
I want the server to put GPS and Camera information on the localhost.
I know Freestyl (aka WhoNeedsAnIphone) uses a http server to pass some device variables to their flash app. But the project stopt and no code was released.
For Nokia Phone there's a Tool called KuneriLite to acces phone info with Flash.
I Also found Depeche But I don't really understand it....
Any Help/Code/App is welcome.

Depending on how many of the HTTP verbs you really need to support (ie, do you just want to respond to a HTTP get for a certain url?) you could knock up a simple HTTP server in C# in an hour or two tops.
There's tonnes of examples of simple HTTP servers in C# on the web...

But i'm only able to find C# webservers for PC, not for windows mobile...
The only thing the server has to do is respond from the code, so i dont have to load actual ASP/HTML pages...
Just a listener on Localhost, if i request localhost/req?GetVar=Cam
I can do something like WriteRespone("Cam=" + SomeSysVar)

Attached is a C# simple http server application that I knocked up based on the MSDN sample at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb397809.aspx.
I've not tested it on a phone.
The sample is for the compact framework.
Should work without any hassle.
Complete source included and the simplest parsing possible (currently responds to a http GET request for / with a chunk of HTML with "1" as the body).

(Oh and I just noticed there's a confusingly commented out line that says "write response" in the source, remove / ignore it.)
You can test the windows app from a web browser by pointing at http://localhost:83

That looks like a good general purpose solution
My example is tailored towards specific custom processing over HTTP rather than serving of files -> in the style of a RESTful API.
From the look of it you can do a similar thing with the Compact Web server by hooking up what the author labels a "Special file type" and adding your custom handling code in there.

That said, you could actually edit my example to File.Open whatever was passed as a parameter off the disk and stream that back to the client, providing a more standard HTTP server without configuration.

Just noticed a very small bug. I'm refactoring the code to be a little better engineered. I'll upload a new sample shortly (you may have already managed to make use of it).

Right, I've re-engineered the code a little.
While the example now isn't contained in a single file, the source is now far more logical, readable and maintainable.
You'll notice the code that actually deals with the request is now hidden away in the HttpVerbs namespace.
Basically if you look at the file HttpGet.cs there's a good working example of how to implement whatever behaviour you like based off of a HTTP Get request to the server.
Code's pretty decent now, slightly more ready for prime time than previously, generally more type-safe and doesn't rely on string parsing all over the place.
