Hello there!
I was searching the site for a way to replace the conn manager and dial pad from the kitchen before I cook it.
I have the touch conn manager and dialpad and every time I install it using a cab file and I end up with unwanted files on my windows folder making my BA drag a little.
If I simply delete the folder/files from the kitchen and add the cab as an OEM package will it work?
Thank you
Comm manager is in OEM\OEM_SAP folder all the registryes and files should be there (or you can remove the comm manager registryes and create a new oem package for it)
The dialpad works only as smart dialing skin, so you have to create new oem package for it or add it to existing one
Thanks xplode!
Right now I'm trying to export the registry using wince cab manager but my trial version won't do it.. so I need to do it by hand... :/
If I just delete the dialpad files and install it using the oem will it work?

Hi !
I'm using DialPad maker Deluxe 2 and it's a good software.
But it save my skin in .cab and I prefer to save it in .psk
Is it possible to convert the cab in psk file or extract the cab in the Pocket Pc instead of installing it ?
Beacause I prefer to copy the folder which contains the pad image files instead of install each time a different skin.
For example I found some skins on Yorch.net that are not .cab but folders that contains files and I think it's possible have the same result extracting cab files in a folder(if you exclude the Yorch tutorial to make skin).
Thanks and sorry for my bad english.
A good way to use cab files for dial pad skins is use cabinstll a software for PPC that allows you to install cab files without deleting them. To go back to original skin just uninstall Dialpad skin by Bong.
Thanks zedeff.
But I'd like to store all my skins in a specific folder, and I've just tried with cabinstall to install the skin in the Storage, but I find the skin file images in Windows and only a blank folder in Storage called "Dialpad Maker Deluxe by Bong's Tools".
So if I want to change skin I must install another skin and my old skin is automatically overwritten.
This is the cause because I prefer the psk file.
I hope you have understood me.
Is there a way to extract the .cab file created wth DialPad Maker and rename the files in the PC, and copy them to PPC in \DesignLab XDA Phone Skin Chooser\Skins ?
It for me could be the best solution
I've cooked the ExtROM for my XDA IIi but I don't know how to change it's name so that after upgrading my name will display in Device Information (like PUGS). Could anyone show me?
you need to grab the version.cab file out of the ext rom and edit it with an external program on your pc and then reinsert it to the ext rom
try searching google for cecab manager to do this with
I already used WinCE CAB Manager to open the Version.cab file. But I still do'nt know how to change the name. Could u show me how?
Insert your name
Hello MrSandman.
You can do that with 2 way:
1. a. Open you version.cab with WinCE CAB
b. Extract file named Platformxxx.reg
c. Open use notepad
d. Edit and import that file again, must be on index 3
2. Or just find the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\3rdversion edit the value
Walla you get your name on device information.....
Really really thank u. I got it.
Hi I am Looking for help using WinCE cab Manager
Q) I am trying to create a cab file for the GPS Patch on WM5 by using the Regestry editor part of WCE Cabman but i can't work out how to get this software to remove the Value Redirect to allow the Dword Group=2 to be activated.
You should ask the author of WinCE CAB Manager.
Cabs cannot delete a registry key... they can only modify it or overwrite it... There is a way however... Look up the patches in extended ROM... they do it by a way of using a custom DLL and an XML file in which you can specify what directory/registry to delete...
Please explain a little more, What Patches to look at?
Hello All,
Is there a way to strip an installed application from a PPC into an installable .CAB file, if one has lost the installation files/DVD, but still have the application installed on the hand-held.
Thanks in Advance.
Not really.
You can always copy the files out (if you can find them all - some may be in windows folder or places other then the main app folder) but you still would need to know every registry key the app requires.
If you use sktools it tells you all the files installed and registry entries. You could then extract all the files as levenum said and make a cab including the registry entries.
Hi lev
ahh..hhaa !

Hi lev
Click to collapse
My experience with SKTools makes me cringe...my ATRE would not stop rebooting until I remove the SD card(where SK Tool was installed and remove it completely.
What software do I need to make a .cab file ?
I will still make all efforts to attempt this anyways....
Ive had no problem with sktools - i always install to main memory. If you manually make your cab then use cabiwiz - or use a commercial app like wince cab manager. Which program are you trying to put together?
cabiwiz enclosed inc example app and tutorials
Funny thing - I was replying to another thread with similar question stating that there would be a problem finding out all the REG keys.
Then jackleung posted about a tool called "ssnap" that supposedly can take an image of the system.
Comparing an image from before and after installation should show all the changes a cab makes.
Since I am not personally familiar with the tool I can't say any more about it.
As for cab creation - while I use cabwiz my self, it is a command line tool and you need to know ho w to write inf files for it.
For a beginner an app like WinCE cab manager will be more comfortable.
It is a shareware, so it will stop working after a while unless you pay but it is very good.
P.S.
Hi Mark
I'm curious if there is any way to modify the cab installations so that we can be asked which start menu folder we would like the shortcut to be placed in?
I have the Start Menu set up so nicely (thanks to Indagroove) but any time I update an app or install a new app I have to go move the link and then restart my phone so it does not appear in the 6.5.x Start Menu.
Any real developers have any ideas?
Way 1
buy "WinCE Cab Manager"
install it on your PC
open .cab files with it
modify .cab files
save .cab files
Way 2
same as above... but as someone who already has WinCE Cab Manager
Way 3
extract files in .cab
edit the files in the .cab with notepad, ultaredit,...
hope it will be ok
repack .cab
easy...
That's what I do now.
Oh well, thanks for replying though.
