I can't find the site but at one point I saw a how to sync with windows mobile 6. I am running ubuntu and would like to be able to sync my contacts. I know it has been done any help would be great
thanks
I just want to bump this thread.
I unfortunatly do not have a solution
for this issue but I also run ubuntu as
my primary OS and i'd love to not have
to boot into windows to get my phone
updated
This maybe not the perfect solution, but use VMWARE server and install WinXP/Outlook in the guest OS
you need to install synCE. it will do what you need. make sure you install the latest svn because with that it will allow you to tether the phone as well..
in addition to that you will also need odccm ..odccm is the only one that works for me..not dccm or vdccm.
I tether my phone all the time in my gentoo box. I don't really sync anything cause im not that important I guess but I have connected it numerous times in order to put files on the phone or storage card
Does this work? You've synced with your mogul?
I was interested in such a solution, but SynCE was last reported "working on support" for WM 2005.
I assumed that if it doesn't even support WM5, there's NO WAY it would support WM6...
I can assure you it works with the mogul/titan because that is what I have. if you read the synce wiki I think it does mention wm6,but not so sure. in any case I stress the fact that you need to directly check it out from svn as binary packaqges are way outdated anyway and the svn version has the code to tether it.
I have a copy of usb-rndis-lite also from synce..for some reason I have to recompile it with every reboot but it is what gives tethering ability. as soon as you run reload.sh in the usb-rndis-lite folder my box automatically recognizes it as an ethernet device and the networkmanager will auto-connect it. if you dnt have networkmanager you will have to add the appropriate ip in /etc/resolv.conf
to synce I just run 'synce-serial-config /dev/ttyUSB0' then I start odccm..then I run 'synce-serial-start' and you will see the phone connect and avtivesynnc arrows will show up on the phone
also its very mportant..for it to work with synce you have to turn OFF adv. usb capabilities in settings > usb to pc on the phone..it basically enables a legacy mode on the phone. without disabling that option my box sees the phone as a simple usb ethernet device..
when it connects you can type 'rapip:/' in a konqueror window to acess the files on phone and storage card
ActiveSync BOOSTER
Is there a way to boost up speed of Sync
Is there a any software or Cab file for it ?
Also want to know after we sync Phone
It keeps repeating to sync, is there a way to stop it ?
With removing the phone

Hi forum,
I have a WiFi Connection in my office premisis & was womdering if I could create a VPN or a similar p2p connection between my laptop & my universal...
Any comments or ideas..
Thanx,
mOrph
yes you can
but not an activesync connection.
you basically have to get on the WIFI network (VPN not necessary unless you are external of the network and/or behind firewalls).
then its a question of what you want to do, the WIFI network gets you on to it using WEP or WPA SPK I think (we use WEP at home and work).
if you want to connect to your laptop, create a mapped drive then you can copy and paste backwards and forwards.
you can run terminal server to control your PC or connnect to a terminal server, or connect to SBS with administrator priverlidges.
The question is, if you connected, what do you want to do. You cannot activesync, but you might like to try streaming music or other bandwidth consuming activities...
ok
got your PM.
Question: If you created the connection using WIFI between your laptop and your PDA, what do you want to do/achieve?

Hi
Answer:
Hi Simon... The reason i was wanting to connect my laptop & my ppc through Wifi is that i cannot activesync (like you already know).
I was thinking maybe i can have a data trasfer between the devices if nothing else.
Is that possible?
If not, what can the connection be used for?
Thanx buddy,
mOrph
Activesync cannt be done over WIFI, 2003 allowed it not WM2005.
You can share a folder on your PC, and thus place files in and out of that using WIFI. Generally though, I found it more efficient to use an SD card with a USB memory reader to transfer files, much quicker read/write. Usually I want to put pictures or videos back the other way anyway. some pc's and laptops come with memory card readers anyway.
ON your PC' find a folder, right mouse click and share it with a share name. Make sure you know the name of the machine, eg my computers name is TLA-DELL1 for work, and home is the name of my daughter. If you havent named your machine it will have some dodgy obscure pathetic name issued by the manufacturer. You can get this from system in control panel.
On your PDA, start your WIFI.
Using Resco explorer hopefully you have it, map a net work drive. You can try the standard file explorer, but I dont like it. Total commander can also do it. In the share address use:
\\computername\foldersharename
note the double backslash.
Enter usernames and passwords as appropriate.
Now, the pain in the arse bit.... do you have a firewall? This is where it can get tricky.
The other thing you can do is if you are running XP Pro (if not, I recommend it), you can also go into control panel > system on the tab called remote connection, you can tick a box that allows you to take control and use your machine on your PDA using Terminal Server. This allows you to access all the resources and facilities that your machine has as if you were sitting at the console, including the power and processing speed of your computer.
Only downside, the screen is much much smaller than your computer, so getting around it can be painful.
Once you have enabled your machine to allow the connection, its simply a matter of starting wifi, programs > terminal services, and enter the IP address or computer name of your laptop to connect to it, and it should open then a log on name for you to start using your machine.
A further feature, which I dont use and cannot advise how to, but read about it here, is to "stream" mp3's from your laptop to your PDA so you can play music on your PDA based upon music on your machine rather than having to copy it.
In relation to sending files to your computer, if all else fails, I ahve two extra email accounts on my PDA a hotmail account, a POP3 account, and if in times of need, a GMAIL account, all of which allow me to email particular files anywhere I want using any WIFI connection. I use this when all else fails.....
Hence my question, what did you want it for....
Dont worry mate, we'll get there... one day. We just have to challenge MS, and what is life without a challenge or 100 from MS.
Is it possible to browse the device through USB without installing activsync?
You can download a small program called wm5torage. This enables you to connect your laptop to a pc as if it were a mass storage device. You can only browse whats on the memory card though, not system files.
If you want to browse through system files then Activesync is the only way i know of doing this. There may be a third party app somewhere, but you'd still have to install it so there's probably not much point..
I tried wm5torage some time ago (v1.6) and didn't work with my TyTN... it worked with my friend's wizard. Don't know if there's any newer version which works.... did you get it working on the Hermes?
Dont take time to try wm5torage on Hermes. I asked Seems there is no way to get it work.

ver 1.71 has been posted in this thread http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=238545&hl=wmstorage but the download page says the file is broken.
I run an FTP server on my TyTN. That way you can access and manage all files on your device via Activesync or a Wireless connection.
This one is basic, but free and does the job well:
http://www.freefloat.com/index.php?...=http://www.freefloat.com/p9614/p9614_swe.php
Make the FTP server point at the root of your device for full access to all files and folders.
i tried the ftp server, but it seems to be super slow to transfer files. I think it's faster using active sync to browse.

WM5storage doesn't work for me.
it should work when you disable advanced network functionality in: connections - USB to PC...
but when I disable that I get an error:
failed to disable RNDIS to use serial
even when I disable active sync to use USB when cradled.
any ideas?

Ah, but have you tried this?
Goto: Start Menu > settings > Connections > USB to PC
Now, untick the box that says: "Enable advanced network functionality"
Now try reconnecting your Hermes!
Tried this, found it to be the best:

Works on wm5 haven't tried it on wm6 yet (will install it soon) it's not free but it's worth it to try out the demo and see for yourself.
If you want to sync your Ameo with your Mac then you will find it won't with the current version of MissingSync
However, conbrio, over on the MissingSync forum, has a found a solution...
http://forums.markspace.com/viewtopic.php?p=6318#6318
I used the PalmSolo download and it works fine apart from file sync is a bit slow (Syncing to Storage Card and not MicrosDrive - MissingSync does not seem to see the MicroDrive??) Could just be the cheap 2GB MiniSD card though And you have to re-run the software when you soft-reboot and set the sync back to serial. Maybe worth putting a link in your startup?
Hope this helps,
Russ
There is another way to sync your Ameo with your Mac via Missing Sync. This way does not require any other software. It also keeps the setting changes after soft resets and seems more reliable.
If you use WisBar or something similiar it is probably best to exit it, otherwise you cannot get to this screen - a possible WisBar bug?
1. From the menu go 'Settings' / 'Connections' / 'USB to PC'
2. Uncheck the tick box 'Enable advanced network functionality'
3. Probably best to re-boot you Mac and soft reset your Pocket PC and check this tick box is still unchecked (unticked).
4. Then plug-in and away you go. It seems to be a lot more releiable than the previous method. I'm using the latest beta of MissingSync.
Hope this helps fellow Mac bods out there...
Russ
p.s. file sync is still very slow - but hey - too much funkiness is probably not a good thing.

if you don't have sd, see the microdrive very well
I am using MissingSync and bluetooth and it works almost flawlessly. I can sync everything and I can even use the internet sharing capabilities of my Ameo. The only issue I have is transferring large files over to the device. This issue is a known bug and will hopefully be fixed with the next release.
I can really recommend this product to every Mac user!
pc dosent detect my device at all
can any one help.when i connect it to the pc it just charges my x7510.i did hard reset.it use to connect fine before
Hi all, i hope this is the right forum.
I have problems with ActiveSync... i dont get it, i have a HTC Touch Cruise with Windows Mobile 6, ActiveSync 4.5, Outlook 2007. Windows XP Pro (SP2) and the HTC connect, but the only thing I'm able to do is to browse the file system on the HTC, i cannot sync. The sync-action in the menus are disabled and cannot even be selected/pressed on either of the machine. Still they are connected, and i can, as i said, browse the HTC:s file system without any problems.
I have read something about "partnership" between Windows and the telephone on several forums on internet, but i have never been given the opportunity to set anything like "partnership", and following the guides to do so does not work. Also, ActiveSync says i'm connected as "Guest".
I have performed uninstall of ActiveSync and cold start on the computer along with reset of the HTC several times. I have also tried to perform the above procedure with the Anti-virus/Firewall software (F-Secure) deactivated all network traffic allowed. Still no luck.
What have i missed to be able to sync?
Regards
Margot
I gave up, installed Funambol instead, it's benefits over ActiveSync is that it actually works.
i posted a comment to this last night, but for some reason,it hasn't shown up!
basically if you right click on the active sync icon ,you can create a partnership.
But what i would do is unnstall active sync then restart the pc , then reinstall it from the download link i have provided at the bottom of this text.
Make sure also that you disconnect your phone from the pc and click start > programs > active sync
then click menu > options. If you have no partnerships in the phone then you need to do nothing. If you have partnerships then that is probably why you cannot create a new one as you can only have two partnerships on the phone.
before deleteing the partnerships ensure that you have backed up all your contacts etc in your phone as deleting any partnerships will also delete the info it is syncing to the pc i.e. contacts, appointments, tasks etc.
I would also click menu > connections and make sure that syncronise all pc's using this connection is ticked and that 'USB is displayed in the box underneath, then when that is done ,click ok.
use ppcpimbackup on your phone(not the pc) to back up all the important info so that you can restore it if anything goes wrong. Just unzip the following file then copy it to your storage card and use file explorer to open it.

Problem is that that option has never existed for me, as soon as i plug in the HTC it is always connected as "Guest" (and has always been like that from the very first time) and there has never been any possibility for me to create or delete any partnership. When i right click on the ActiveSync icon only three (3) options are available, these are "Open Microsoft ActiveSync", "Connection Settings..." and "Explore", all other options are greyed out. And option to create partnership does not exist at all, neither selectable or greyed out.
Also, i do have the correct version (4.5) of ActiveSync, i did even try the English version instead of the Swedish to rule out any impossible "possibilities" for the reason of my problems with ActiveSync.
I have written further on the subject (what procedures i have gone through in my desperate quest to get a partnership between my PC and the HTC) on this link.

No, i'm using a PC, Windows XP Pro (SP2), installed the complete Funabol server bundle and Outlook client plugin on the PC, and installed the Funambol client on the HTC TC. Set up the Server to my needs and everything that did not work with ActiveSync, now works with Funambol -- and all my base are now belong to me.
did you try the settings on the phone to see if you have the sync partnerships setup already? also did you check the sync connections were set to allow all pc connections to usb? I know you have it sorted out now , but just curious with what the problem is, especially as you can connect as a guest. Is there any other software on the phone that is stopping the active sync connection. Or is the firewall on the pc blocking it?
I have just read the forum link you posted.
The reason most of the options are faded out when you try to select them on the pc and ppc is that you have the device connected when you try you need to unplug the device and then the partnership options will be enabled.
P.S. I love sweden, i worked over there for 8 months and Norway. Mainly in the north of sweden. Your beer is too expensive though

Cannot find any partnerships on the phone, not even in the registry.

This i have done. I can only do it when i'm disconnected, but i'm guessing that is normal.

Well, to be honest, the solution, using Funambo, is a last resort option (gee, i really come close to write "final solution" here. ), and i would still prefer to get it to work with ActiveSync. With Funambo, since i want to have full control over where the information goes, i have to run a pretty heavy server on my computer, and it does feels a bit overkill for just syncing Outlook with a PDA.
Anyway, i have tried to disable the firewall and Anti Virus software (F-Secure bundle) and allow all traffic, uninstalled AS, removed the AS aplication drawer, reboot, installed AS, soft reset my HTC, and connect it. It feels like i have tried everything. I even tried to do the complete reinstall process with my network cable to the FiberLAN disconnected to exclude the possibility of failure because of some security restriction reasons in AS, since i have WAN (internet) straight into my computer without a modem, switch, router or anything else in between (part from 127.0.0.1 i do not even have a local IP address, only a public WAN IP).

When the phone is disconnected, the ActiveSync window says "No partnership" and if i right click the ActiveSync-icon in the task manager only two options are available for selection ("Open Microsoft ActiveSync" and "Connection Settings...").
So, neither the PC or the phone has any partnership, still, when i connect them it immediately connects as guest and leave me no option to set up any partnership (neither disconnected or connected). Something is fishy.

*lol* Thanks! I'm no patriot or nationalist so i cannot take pride in being swedish, but i do appreciate our nature and so on... Indeed beer is expensive here, very expensive... But prize must also be put in perspective as it's a part of our still pretty successful national alcohol and drugs policy. It's a small price to pay for the sake of decent public health, and even with our high alcohol and tobacco taxes, the tax incomes from these products does not even close to cover the costs for the damage they indirectly cause.
Also, as i'm a "far left extremist", high taxes is a kind of a turn-on for me.
Ive searched and found and searched again and again an again. Im using Vista Home Premium and want to enable Remote Desktop (RD). The first thing I found ofcourse was the not present RD service of Vista HP. I installed the on the internet circulating .bat for Vista HP.
Okay the steps I took:
1. Download and install: Premium.bat from the .zip
2. Enable RD in computer -> properties
2. Open poort 3389 and set it TCP
3. Restarted both HD and laptop
4. Wifi enabled on my HD
5. Started RD: Filled in the following IP in Computername:
\192.168.1.XXX OR \86.92.85.XXX
Dunno which one to use? Local? First is from my Acces Point/Router second is the overall IP, but what do I use?
6. Account: My account on my laptop
7. Password: Password of my account
8. Domain: Dont have one, so blank
Still EVERYTIME I get the error something is wrong and it wont connect. Someone got an answer? I downloaded Remote Touch but it didnt work either.
There was a .reg for premium called TRonPremium.reg but did not apply it yet, dunno what it does and it is a .reg
Please could someone help me cause this is pretty useful for me!
The remote desktop service is enabled by default in vista. No idea why you have needed to install anything extra to get it working. Sounds dodgy to me. Anyways you use the local network ip address, not the external address, and you don't need to open any ports (although on mine I didn't have a firewall enabled on the machine I was accessing, the firewall was on my router). You do need to put in a username and password for the machine you are accessing though. Doesn't need a domain name, as you say, it can be blank.
I'd say the troubles you are having are to do with the dodgy reg and bat files you have downloaded. You shouldnt need anything other than a bog standard vista install to use RD, no matter what version of Vista you have. You may have a service disabled that is required too. If you have disabled any of these previously you may need to have another look at them and re-assess.
reg files add information to registry. If you are unsure you should NEVER add these without knowing exactly what they do. Can be very harmful to your pc. If in doubt, always leave them alone.
Hello
I use UltraVNC on vista,
And .NET VNC Viewer on ppc,
Both free and running without any problem from ppc or any other pc
When I was searching the internet I found multiple website claiming Vista Home Premium does not support the full RD. To solve this according to a few websites, you could install the .bat made to add the correct service. I even found this on XDA threads. How do you re-do a .bat file? Dont know how to work with it.
The .reg im leaving alone, .regs are evil for PCs imo!
Will try it out today, with what you just told me. If it does not work, Ill try the VNC and VNC client, though I heard it was slugish and the connections fails very quick.
Thank! If you still got tips/tricks, be sure to leave them
Ok well my 64bit version of vista home premium had it all enabled so I assumed they all did. Maybe you're using the 32bit one. Seems loads of stuff was disabled in that.
I tried the various VNC programs but gave up with those because the connection kept timing out, and it had more options than was neccessary. I'd say VNC was best if you wanted to connect via the internet, but RD is best for home use.
Good luck with yours I'm sure you'll get it working.
