I can only assume it is trying to load some application or file from the card. But you do not say what apps are installed at start up and whether they may have necessary files on the card.

yup. i had just ran the dishwater in the sink with dish soap. sat the phone on the counter. roommate went to slide something in the sink without paying attention and knocked in my phone too. i come back into the kitchen and see some nice light shining up through the water. so of course i hurry up and pull it out. just as i was about to take the battery out the screen went black and white. put the blow dryer too it and 8 circulation fans for desktop computers. thought i had it dry so i tried powering it back on. screen was almost like an LCD monitor with a bad backlight with just ghost images. so i called AT&T and told them it just quit (i may have forgot to mention the sink incident). well ive already had 5 replacements since march for various reasons (mostly cuz i may have dropped them and they got scratched so i wanted a new one) but anyways they told me bring it to the store to verify there was no damage. which somehow the little sticker meant to check for moisture didnt change so i was figuring i was good. went to school the next day and left the phone in the front seat of my car for about 4 hours came back out and tried it again to make sure it was still gonna do the ghost image thing and low and behold it worked with no problem. screen came on normal in full color and everything. touch screen still works and everything. its like it never happened from what you said i guess im the first to successfully drop an 8525 into water, fully submerge it and it still worked.

I had my Universal in my back pocket when I sat on the car's seat. I felt it there right away so I got off the car and checked on the Universal, the screen'd gonr white with some colored lines! The phone was fully functional except for the screen.
Today I check the coxial cable but got nothing. Tried to play around just doing things with no luck.
I was hopeless, thought I'd pay loads for the screen. I went nuts and started to smack it on my desk. Guess what happened, it worked again!
I was like shocked and happy to see the screen back on ! I'm gonna check on it now, rotate the screen and so, lets see if it stays alive.
Cheers.
Try it again mate. If it works, we can add it to the wiki
good job!, I know a story like this!
my friend was playing with his Universal while breathing some fresh air out
then suddenly...ooooooooooooooooo
the Universal made its way down from the 2nd floor...
ofcourse after collecting its pieces (SD card, Battery cover, Battery, SIM, Stylus)...
going up and turn it on and its working! but with the same problem (white screen with color lines)....
my friend was pissed off..so he began to hit the desk near the device and the screen re-worked again!
and the device never went to the service until now...
this happened 6 months before!
the only things that left..some scratches and the broken cover!
strong Universal

A story with a happy ending. Serendipity.

If you take a look at the Lcd screen on a universal there are connectors around the corners of the screen (probably find a pic on ebay).
My universal had a problem with a blue tint on the screen but with a squeeze near the upper left of the screen i heard a click and the problem went away.
chances are a swift bang may be resitting the connectors. you might want to try squeezing the corners either side of the screen before resulting to more extreme techniques.
Of course you could remove the covers and be sure of getting good connections

Just don't squeeze the corner too hard. I'm now looking for a new screen as I've got the dreaded 'bleeding ink' across the right-hand corner of mine.
Anyone know of a supplier of new screens?
MONGO Smashh!!!...............hmmmm Mongo fix

p.p.s it can have a 50-50 chance of working on cars i find, but louder swearing does help
On an old PDA, I had one of them WiFi SD card thingies.
It was so temperamental and I thought it might have been the contacts or something.
Anyway, I took the WiFi SD apart and put the bare circuit board in the slot, it kinda got stuck, but that also made funny colours come on the screen.
i have a tmobile wing. it randomly freezes while using it, fades to white then off, turns off
sometimes only way for it to come back on i have to take out battery and put it back.
when i turn it on sometimes itll loop the tmobile thing, maybe make it to the windows mobile green page then turn off and try again.
ive reinstalled the tmobile rom, installed open touch, still the same thing.
i read about the memory card having a loop porblem so i took it out, still. tried installing total commander and renaming the file but it wont let me rename it.
thought the screen ribbon or another wasnt in good so i took it part and made sure i put everything in good.
maybe the fact that a pin that touches the battery it broken? see how they make an arc or so. and the 1 is broken. is that the problem maybe?

That may well be the case. The first thing to try is to plug the phone to the charger and see if the phone works properly. If it does the next thing would be to get a new battery.
I had the same problem and it was solved by installing a new battery.
Best of Luck
yes it does do it while plugged into charger. a little less though.
and ive noticed that when i try to fix the back cover, doesnt fit right so it pops off on 1 corner, i take it off and put it back on tight, from me pressing down the phone likes to freeze and reboot.
ive been thinking about a new battery. i guess ill go ahead and get one then.
Ok the here’s the story. My phone (Blackstone) was beside my bed along with a glass of water and the water got knocked all over it (disaster).
Anyway as soon as I realised (probably a few hours later) I unplugged it from the charger (yes it was plugged in :s ) and took the battery, sim memory card ect out.
I then proceeded to go to my local pound shop and buy an interior dehumidifier. (This is basically a box full of silica gel ). I then put the phone in a thin sock and put it inside the box and covered it in silica gel and sealed the box and put it in sunlight for a few days. This did an excellent job and as far I could tell removed all the moisture from the phone.
The phone worked perfectly for about a week until my idiot girlfriend knocked a second glass of juice over it (arrrggg).
Anyway I used the previous method again to dry it out.
I powered the phone up and it came on but the power button was dodgy and kept sticking (could be something to do with the juice Garr). Anyway the phone worked with the temperamental power button for a few days and then all of a sudden wouldn’t boot up and just showed the following on the screen when powered up.

I then decided ill would send the phone off to be fixed via Carphone warehouse who I got it off. They took it and sent it off and said it would take 2 weeks and I was like o ok thinking they would fix it.
When I received the phone back it came with a note saying water damaged beyond economic repair. Me and the guy in the store who was actually quite helpful managed to figure out the Lazy bugger of an engineer who works for Carphone warehouse had taken the battery out, taken one look at a little water damage indicator (shown in the following pick) and deemed the phone irreparable. And then sent it straight back. You could tell he hadn’t even opened the case because the warranty void sticker was still perfectly intact as it was when I looked at it before sending the phone off.
I am now going to send the phone off to HTC which I should have done in the first place but will they take one look at the indicator and do the same thing?
Can the indicator be replaced and what colour is it originally and where can I get the correct litmus paper to replace it?
Cheers for the help
HTC will repair it for free under warranty but not if you have custom firmware (needs the original firmware on)
If you send it with custom firmware HTC will reply and put something like phone has illegal software on and you will have to pay for repair.
SO kill two birds with one stone, flash it to original firmware so HTC cant complain and then see if it boots up as you may have had a damaged rom due to the liqiud's.
sorry I sould have mentioned I tried putting the latest htc firmware on. It went on fine with no problems but still did the same thing on power up.
cheers
ah right, in tht case htc should repair it.
I would get someone else just to confirm this as some manufacturers dont count water damage in there warranty's.
All my past encounters with water damaged goods and warrantys have all been fine (repaired and returned for free underr warranty)
I dropped my phone and turned it back on and it said "No SD card please insert a new SD card," so I took off the back and looked for where the SD should be and I can't find it? Where's the slot?
IT should be on the top left side (looking from the back on your device). You have to open the backcover.
Ok I found it. I took it out and put it back in and turned the phone back on but it still says there's no SD card inserted?
try taking it out while your hero is turned on. Then put it back in.
Try restarting phone without SD in,... then once fully booted, insert SD again.
If thats a no-go, you may have broken something.

Alright I tried both of those and it didn't help, so I just tried the SD from my other phone and it worked perfectly. I guess the Hero's SD is just broken, but it's weird that just dropping the phone one time could break the SD card?
There are also 2 smudges on the bottom of the screen, you can see one on the right of the word "Phone" and another smaller one on the bottom left of the Phone button. They're like little brown dots and they look like dirt but they're on the inside of the screen. Is there any way to fix these? If not, anyone wanna buy a Hero lol?

To the SD cards, they are very fragile, the slightest drop in the wrong place can fracture them inside causing them to be unreadable.
For the screen, have you tried opening and cleaning under the glass?

Looking at the image again, they may even be dead pixels ad they are illuminating and not just blocking the light, not too sure on that though.

Do you need a special tool to open up the phone?
Torx 5, Phillips 0, flat plastic stick and some plastic tweezers I think.
There is a video around for it, if you go to accessories section and replacement case/fascist it is in there.

Yeah, I agree. A "fascist" can help you fix the dead pixels. If nothing else he can read "Mein Kampf" to the little lazy guys until they get up and start saluting
I'm just kidding. What I am saying is of no help but I just found the confusion too funny.
What he actually meant was "fascia".
What i meant to say and what swype put was something completely different!

Alright fixed it. I got pissed off today because it wasn't getting reception so I threw it on the ground, and when I picked it back up the little smudges were gone lol.
I dropped my Axon 7. Though there's no visible damage, the phone will frequently freeze (not turn off) and just continue to display whatever was on the screen at the time. Or the the charging LED will remain on if it was just charging and not actually booted, even if I unplug the phone.
I opened it up and reconnected all the cables, but no luck.
Once it starts, if left gently on a table it will continue to run, but if I jostle it it will likely freeze.
I've been experimenting and know I get the same behavior if the phone is running on AC with the battery disconnected (I think that worked...) , or if I run unplugged with the battery.
Any ideas? Since I already have the phone open and don't much have to loose, I'm willing to attempt more surgery, but I'm not sure how to diagnose the fault. (Yes, past the 2 year damage warranty).
Happy for your thoughts and suggestions!
There was a post on here with the exact same scenario, if I remember correctly it was a cable to the screen/display.
I've dropped phones and sometimes the pins bend slightly so check the connection pins.
I even repaired one that fell into a bowl of milk
found something?

Assuming this is the issue, does replacing this cable mean removing the screen? I've heard that's hard...
I can't see from the pic properly but it is possible, the only way to know for sure is to compare with an original condition unit. (Looks better than some I've seen)
I was fortunate enough to have the same phone as a backup so I could check in my case.
Just make sure all connectors are snapped into place and no broken fragments in the connection.
I hope you get it sorted
