flight mode problems... - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

hey all,
my problem is this: if i put my BA into flight mode, after a random period of time (its been anything from 5min to 30min) it automatically comes out of flight mode and switches back to the phone being on.
now, i'm basically using my BA as a pure pda so i haven't even got a sim card in it... if i can disable the phone side of things all together, that'd be great, but if not some kind of fix to stop it reenabling the phone would be much appreciated.
thx~

Hi
have the same Problem in Flight-mode. Is there anybody who knows how to patch this?

This might be a problem for me..
I'm away to KL next week (12hrs in the plain)

Flight-Mode
Be sure, that no application (like Pushmail) is starting any GPRS-Connection.
In my case (installed HTC Comm-Manager), I can't start/stop Pushmail over the Comm-Manager - i change the settings in ActiveSync (Shedule) and change to manualy.
Then it's recommended that you stop the Data-Conneciton. I can't stop it with Comm-Manager, so I use the G-Symbol in the Titelbar to end the connection.
Perhaps it helps.
Chris

I think i've found a fix for this... well, so far my phone hasn't gotten out of flight mode for 72 hours so i'm hoping this is a fix.
anyways, goto start>settings>menu and make sure "profiles" is enabled
then goto start>profiles
in all the profiles, for the ring type select "none" and set the phone volume to the lowest setting then click apply for each one separately
eg: click on general, select "none" for ring type, set the phone volume to none, click "apply" or "ok" (its the left softkey). then go back into the program and repeat for silent, etc etc...
but yeah, this seems to have worked for me so far. ^_^v

NoteM & Auto Power Off

In WM2003SE, I used NoteM and, by default, it would override power settings and record until either the battery or storage space ran out. There's an option in NoteM settings to disable 03's auto power off.
This does not work in WM6 -- it powers off regardless of whether NoteM is running or not...I can only make two minute recordings and then the device shuts off. The only solution so far is to disable auto power off completely, but that is more trouble than it's worth.
Anyone else have the same problem (and a solution)??
not the solution you want, but, you can disable the power off in the device power settings.

That's what I said
The biggest problem with that is if I get a call or text message, the device activates to alert me of that fact but will never shut back off...battery go bye-bye!
x_x i still sleepy, sorry, haven't read all your post.
waken up since 6AM and now it is 7PM here
No problem, thanks for trying. Get some sleep!
Should be noted that imov keeps the device alive (IIRC) and NoteM doesn't.

Back to home-screen when turning on the screen!

ive been very happy with my Touch Dual, but there is one thing that bugs me loads! If im running a program, and i turn of the screen (press the power button), when i turn it back on, im taken back to the home screen. This is really annoying! I was testing pointUi, which proved pointless, as whenever I turned on the screen again, i was taken back to the standard HTC Home Screen.
Is there a setting or something for this ive missed?
Cheers!
sorry i dont really know much but you can just go on to the running programs list and open it quite quickly
i assume you just wanted it for coming straight on to the program but im not sure
in settings->today->items
there is a checkbox named
Today timeout with a dropdownbox which set
the timeout time
you could try to uncheck the checkbox and see
if it still does it
another thing that results in the same effect:
the device lock unter settings.
if its activated (doesn't matter what time is set), waking up the device brings yout to home.

i kind of have the same problem. but this brings me to another question. what does that checkbox do? minimum one hour timeout?!
anyway. i am using a kaiser, and when the device goes out of "standby" (pressing the powerbutton) im brought back to the today-screen.
but as of the previos post. this does not happen when the device locks after 5 minutes and i type in my simple pin. if the device locks i am brought back where i left it... (i.e. gsplayer)
well one would asume that unchecking the checkbox would disable the return to today screen
and the dropdownbox beside it's content would only be enabled if the checkbox was checked

No Ring In Sleep mode

I have a Sprint Touch (Mogul 6800). It works perfectly with talk and sms.
the problem is that when i receive a call with the phone screen off the phone call comes through at the very last ring and i can't pick up in any way. When the screen is on i receive phone calls just fine.
I set the slot cycle index to 0 and it still happens. It only does this in sleep mode (screen off)
Here is the setting in Modem Settings
Slot Cycle Index: 0
Preferred Serving System: Automatic
Preferred Mode: Automatic
Hybrid Preferred: Enable
Clear All MRU entry: No
Any thoughts or fix is highly appreciated.

a slot cycle index of 0 causes this. set it to 1.

I thinks is something with the length of time from the moment the other person starts the call to the moment it starts ringing... I think if you set it to 1 is about 2 seconds and 2 is about 5 secs... not sure 100% though
I think it has something to do withhow often it 'pings'the cell tower to look for a call.
Maybe.
One thing is certain, a large ring tone file can cause it to take a while to wake up and start playing. You may want to try a simpler ring tone to see if that helps.
Thanks for the help, but that didn't work. If the phone is in standy or sleep mode it won't ring. However, as long as the screen is on calls come right through. I called from my neighbors phone 10 times. 5 time with screen off (sleep mode) not one call went through. 5 time with the screen on and each call came through with no problem.
It must either be a software problem or a hardware problem. I would recommend you do a hard reset and see how it works without any additional software. If it works fine then you know that it is a program compatibility issue. You can slowly add your programs back to see when the problem recurs. What ROM/radio and software do you have installed?
I am using too's ROM / Radio 3.35.
Initially I didn't have a thing on it. Stock Cricket phone from a company in Texas. It just started out of the blue. It happened to me after 2 months of using the phone. So, I figured what the heck, I did the plunge to flash it to too’s ROM. Flashed it over and the same thing happened. Sleep mode…no ring. Phone off of sleep mode works fine.
My phone used to do this as well. I never really found a solution. When I noticed I wasn't receiving calls in sleep mode I would soft reset the phone and that would cure it for maybe a couple days. Very annoying. Ever since I've been on radio 3.35 or higher though it's been working. To the best of my knowledge.
Have you tried changing your ringtone to one of the stock ones? A simple midi file? See if that does anything.
I am using stock ringtones. Also, I am using 3.35 radio. It's a ROM one of the guys on Howards made, but no one else is having this problem. Really annoying since this is my business phone.
I case anyone else has this problem, I now know why. It's a bad ROM. I flashed my phone over to VV's ROM and back to too's and the phone has been ringing for days with no troubles. So, something within the ROM's set things right.

G1 - sound settings and gprs on TMUK

I have my g1 for just over 3 days now and its brilliant. I do agree battery life sucks but this is something I can cope with.
However over these 3 days I already had twice the problem with gprs. When I go to the browser it doesn't open anything, just shows white space and waits for the page to load... I tried then Market and the same, couldn't get past initial selection (loading...)
It eventually displayed network error and gprs icon disappeared.
Moment after it reappeared and when I went back to browser it worked normal again.
It seems like gprs connection is hanging and once it is reset it works fine.
Is there any way of manually resetting the connection?
Second thing I noticed is with alarm sounds. Is it possible get rid of the alarm sound and just make it vibrate in the morning? I thought that if the phone is in silent mode with vibrations off it would just vibrate in the morning but it started to ring as well.
It would be better if silent mode was a "master setting" if you know what I mean... is there any way to accomplish that?
apart from these two issues the phone is great upgrade from kaiser... love the screen and responsiveness.
anyone?
Try deleting out all the apn's apart from the T-Mobile uk 1.
Settings/Wireless Controls/Mobile networks/Access Point Names
Click the name then hit menu then delete.
After do a reboot.
Turn airplane mode on then off. That should reset your data connection. As for the sound, there might be an app on the market that toggles all sound.
i'm not sure about data connection problem, removed all redundant apn's and it seems to be happening less often.
as for the alarm, I recorded 10sec silent mp3 and set this as an alarm - worked a treat!

All programs close when screen goes black

Hi all.
I have this annoying problem with my Blackstone.
When the screen turns off everything closes down. It's really annoying if i'm using messenger or something and not look on it for 2 min it closes messenger down.
I know i can choose in battery setting not to turn off the unit if it's not used for a while, but i still like that the screen is turned off, but still working.
Can this be done??

Yes it can.
Go to Start/Settings/System/Power/Advanced and you can select the screen or backlight to turn off if device is not used for x mins on either battery or external power

Yeah i know, but it only turn the lights down, not turn the screen off. It's only if i choose to turn off the device the screen turns off.
I use gyrator to set up an event that turns the screen off without turning the device off when the stylus is inserted (you can modify the default gyrator behaviour which is to lock the screen when the stylus is inserted). If you want to be fancy you could set it up to turn the screen off if the phone is turned face down, you don't really need the screen on then anyway unless you're in the habit of looking at your phone above your face while lying on your back, or trying to use it while doing acrobatics in an stunt plane.

Well i can't get it to work :-/
What i'm looking for is also a thing so the device isn't turned off when i push the turn on/turn off button on the top. I want to use this button to turn off the screen and not close down the programs.
This is what i'm looking for and i hope someone can help me

Just tried the screen off when phone is face down and it doesn't seem to be working for me either for some reason. But the stylus in event is working fine, just pop the stylus out and put it back in again and the screen goes completely off without killing the processes in the background (can still explore phone with active sync). I wouldn't want to mess with the power button as that is really useful to provide a proper device suspend when I want it.
I have a similar problem but with the GPS.
I have raised the question here, on some other forums and directly to HTC.
From HTC I got the answer that it is done by design to minimize battery drain and that they would have many angry costumers complaining about low battery life.
The only solution I know of so far is to use a 3rd party app.
I use "screenoff" and everytime I use the GPS I go to advanced-power and uncheck all the boxes.
When I'm done using the GPS I check the boxes again, otherwise I'll have to remember to turn the screen off manually everytime in "normal" usage of the phone.
I think it's sad though on such an expensive device not to have the option to run programs and hardware in sleep mode.
I'd rather find a solution where I can push the power button as usual and where I can have the boxes in advanced-power checked all the time.
I managed to get gyrator to turn the screen off by flipping face down, just needed to put the screen off command before all the rotation disable commands. Now if I want to disable the screen I just have to flip it face down for a second or so.
Thx for all your help.
But i found out that it's not only when the screen turns off everything closes. If i just leave it on home screen for like 2 min. everything also closes down.
I've heard from another forum that it's something HTC has decided to do to keep on the battery....
I don't know if there is anything to do here then??
Go to the start button, select settings, select system , scroll down and select power then the advanced tab and UNTICK Turn off device if not used for 2mins for both external and battery power.

Done that... Still closes everything after around 2. min....
Strange, doesn't do that on mine.

I had a similar problem and only thing which resolved it was a hard reset!
I'm just testing it again to make sure. Have a track playing in the HTC music app and I'm signed in to messenger. Screen is off and I'm waiting for 3 mins to make sure.

That was going to be my next suggestion, really doesn't sound like normal operation to me. So hardreset and install one app at a time until you find out what is messing things up for you. 3 mins are up and track is still playing and I'm still signed in to messenger.
Thanks to a guy called Dawsonas I just found a program called Pocketshield.
It has an application permission feature:
"When this app is running override power off: just do screen off" (use this option for music players, GPS apps, loggers, IM, or any app that needs the device to stay awake). This setting will take effect either when "Power off on lock" or "Power off after 20 seconds" options are enabled.
Check it out

I will try that
But do you guys think it could be some settings in the ROM? Should i try another one or what do i do when you say it isn't normal for the phone?
