Tom Tom, GPRS, and DUN - Networking

So I have been having some issues getting my TomTom GO720 to connect to my 8125, running WM6, to use the TomTom PLUS services, including data and traffic. I finally flashed a new ROM since I wanted to upgrade to theloons 6.0 from 5.1 I finally got it to work but noticed the following...
I always install registry wizard, make the reg changes I want, and then uninstall it. I may not be the most elegant, but it works for me. One of the tweaks I always check is, "always have GPRS connected on the 3rd tab"
This time I set up the GPS before I installed reg wizard. Once I installed Reg WIzard and enabled the tweak, the GPS stopped connecting so I started playing.
It turns out that if I have an active GPRS connection the TomTom will not connect. I always leave the GPRS connection active so I can get push mail from my work's exchange server. Does anyone know of a way that these two things can co-exist?

Can anyone connect to GPRS via the G icon???

I have a K-Jam and have never been able to connect to GPRS by tapping on the G and having an option popup....I have no options. I had it on my PDA2K, but not on my K-Jam. The only way for me to connect is by launching Explorer and then connecting to a site.
I can't figure out how to make a link appear under the G icon so I can just tap something without running to IE and do it. Any thoughts? I'm with Tmobile in the US.
Thanks,
Tom
bump
just a question...
what would be the purpose in doing this....?
My thought is that it's a simple one-tap-on and one-tap-off thing. I never use IE but rather Thunderhawk. So, I have to start IE, go somewhere, have GPRS start up, close IE, start TH and I'm running. Also, to connect to GPRS to just check email via the above method is much more lengthy than just tapping the G then T-Mobile WAP. I had it on my PDA2K and it worked great...the pda didn't but the G worked.
T
WM5 removed it.
Its kind of annoying but with direct push and cingular xpress mail, my connection always stays connected, plus with the new rom you can use the connection manager to connect and disconnect from gprs.
not postotive about this one, but there should be a setting in an app called phonealarm to add a connected and disconnected button.
PA settings>Addon tab>check data connection settings>tap setup>...
Hope this works. BTW, u can prob just get the trial, change this setting, uninstall, and leave the settings.
Or...u could try finding the reg hack or ask bruce (PA dev) for it.
Good luck.

TomTom GPRS connection

I have just upgraded to an XDA Trion (Hermes) and I have got TomTom (5.21) working without too much trouble. However, as with my old Wizard my push email GPRS connection is almost always connected and TT Traffic doesn't like it. It wants a 'vanilla' GPRS connection. I could switch this manually on the Wizard (although it was a PITA), but on the Trion, TT just refuses to connect.
Is there anyway of forcing TT to use the vanilla GPRS connection ?
BTW, The GPRS connection takes an age to set up. E.g. in POP3 email, it just sits there for 90 seconds connecting before the data transfer starts.
Confused, Leeds, UK.
Hmmmm
After spending most of the day trying to connect to Tomtom services and emailing them (in vain) I got through to them on the phone <shock>
It was pretty fruitless, but it did make me look at my push email schedule and I set it down a notch to every 5 mins instead of instant, which is kind of defeating the point, but...
Soon as I did that Tomtom Plus connected. I can get traffic on the move. I can get my email in seconds.
A compromise, but at least things are coexisting...for now.
Hope that helps.
I have a tomtom go510, it worked before the att rom update, now it says the phone has no data connection. HELP

Sorry I know nothing about TT Go's. Have you posted a new topic in the forum ? I think you'll get more hits that way.
Sorry, Dave.
Dave,
I have exactly the same problem with Tomtom traffic, could you tell me how to change my push settings - or even delete them - as I don't use push email on my tytn, having traffic back would be great.
Paul
The issue on conecting the tomtom go seems to be the removal of DUN on AKU3 bluetooth, there is a cab file which gives you the functionality back as listed eleswhere on this forum (WM6_BT_DUN.cab)

Priority based connection - HOW?

Hi all,
I just purchased an O2 XDA Zinc and have not been able to figure out how to establish a priority based connection, for all programs (such as Skype, IE etc) that automatically require an internet connection.
What I am trying to achieve is this:
When I do a Send/Receive (Email) OR open IE OR open skype, the app should first try and connect to the WLAN, and if this is not available, connect using the GPRS settings on my phone.
The current situation is that I am having to change this option every single time manually etc.. (Under Settings/Connections/Connections - WM6) and the experience is quite exasperating!
A colleague of mine has this feature built in to the Nokia E61 and I've seen this feature in action - just wondering if WM6 would support something similar - either through the apps that come with the ROM/phone or a third-party app?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards to all...
WM5 and WM6 will always try to use the WLAN if available first, and then fall back on GPRS or such.
You would need to have your WLAN turned on for this though, or are you referring to the ability for the program that you launch to initiate the WLAN connection so that you don't leave it on otherwise?
ive also have same problem
whenever try to connect to internet,
Zinc will try GPRS first.
there was a day which i didnt noticed it.
and my credit was drained..

TomTom 720 and icon problems

Hi there
I have just upgraded to a Touch Dual, and have a couple of problems. Firstly I cannot get a data connection with my TomTom 720 - I have installed the DUN patch, but cannot get it to recognise my data settings. I am on Orange (UK)- has anyone got a connection to work? And if so, what are the data settings?
Interestingly I am getting intermittent problems connecting to my Parrott 3200 hands free kit -seem to be worse with the DUN patch instaLLED. Is this possible?
Another possible issue is that I occasionally have a "12#" icon appearing in tye top left of the screen, accompanied by a blank notification. Any ideas what this might be? Serems to go away after a bit - and I can't find a reference to it in the manual.
Thanks,
Jon
I have the same TomTom issue with a 920T. I installed the DUN cab and then couldn't get past the connection settings wizard on the TomTom. The DUN pack did cause some weirdness with GPRS/3G connections and my Jawbone headset - so I uninstalled DUN as TT didn't work.
People have TomTom data connection working and I think the answer is buried somewhere in these forums. WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS... a sticky with a definitive "HowTo: Get TomTom data connections working on WM6".
I'm currently using a c600 phone and it works fine for TT.
As far as your blank notification issue - this is a bug and everyone has it. It happens when you first start the phone. If you want to get rid of it, you need to Start->Settings->Personal. Then Lock->Menu->Cancel. I think the 12# disappears too but cant remember.

Setup 8525 (Hermes 100) with no data plan

Here is what I'm Trying to do:
~Find a Wm6 or Wm6.1 that would allow me to setup and use the phone with out a data connection from A&TT, but would like to only use WIFI to access the Web, email & facebook...etc...etc
~What threads, rom, tricks, cabs or tweaks where used to achieve this... while still being able to use email & the web via WIFI only?
~I've tried several Roms all installed no problem except setting up email accounts and intermittent web access issues when the phone goes into standby.
~I've set up a Window live email account but have very inconsistent connections issues. (Mostly not working)
~Frequent connection errors...
Any suggestion, pointers would be great!
As far as i know the first port of call for wm phones is to try and connect via a data plan, it will only try via wifi if you have it switched on and connected, i havent found a way of getting it to automatically try to connect to wifi. So good luck in finding it , as i have been on here for years and still dont know how to do it.
I know its not exactly useful, but just letting you know, dont think its going to be easy
You can use NoData to prevent it from trying to use a data plan (2G, 3G, etc).
I don't have a data plan at all; this is what I do to force it to use only activesync passthrough or wifi:

The No-data cab did not help.... Did nor notice any changes... Outlook continues to pop open every few minutes. Not sure what the cause is however the phone works fine when I connect it with WIFI. is there some reg-edit to stop the outlook pop up? Let me give some more info that may help...
Using:
~Window Live Hotmail client with in Pocket Outlook
~Do not have a data plan for the phone (AT&T 8525 Hermes)
~The Only way the phone connects to the web or email is via WIFI
All suggestions welcome....

The nodata cab installs the nodata program - check your programs menu. Run the nodata program and you can toggle off your connections.
