I recently installed a 1GB SD card ( GoldenMars ) which seems to slow down the device by 30% . The speed with a 128MB card was Fair but now it's damn slow. Is it normal that the card will slow down the device ? i know it drains the battery faster but what about the speed ?
It shouldnt...I always have a 2GB SD card sitting in mine, never had any problems with loss of speed.
me too I have 2gb but there are no probs
Can u please tell me what's ur SD card brand ?
Mine is AData 150x 2GB SD Card
How can i benchmark mine ?
I think SKTools have a benchmark feature.
BTW, 2GB SanDisk no problems here.
EDIT: And the free SPB Benchmark
2 GB SD works well on my BA.
my shipped BA ... Imate PDA2K... bought from dubai... did not used to take SD card and i was living with 1GB MMC card...
after WM6... (didn't try it with WM5)... I tried SD card... and now 2 GB kingston SD card is working fine.
i got a 51X speed , but on the card they said 50X/150X i dont get it . When i try to run a video on TCPMP from SD storage it's really slow if it's more that 600kbps . it runs fine if i play it when benchmarking ( there's a benchmark option with TCPMP )
Any idea ?
Mines running a 2GB Sd Perfectly fine.

Igb Card Support
Yes I am using a San Disk Igig card for GPS Maps with no problem.
great ! thanx......
...and I use one for movies!
1 gb
i use it for my MP3s and movies as well.
what about high-speed x60 1G SD card ?
faster then normal speed ?
i'm using 1gig 60x pqi sd card. oftentimes it works. problems encountered: xda2 can't detect the sd card. never done the 3x format yet.
you won't see much in terms of speed in PPC. all these fast speed SD is meant for digital camera & video actually.
I have a 1Gig card by 'Integral' that claims to be high speed. I was having some problems running gps mapping etc from it, though for mp3's and videos it was fine.
I have now bought a 512 SanDisk Ultra 2 card and Tom Tom is much better with this card. Using a multiple file read/write test to copy from the card to itself, the new Sandisk card is significantly quicker, and Tom Tom runs/opens much better than it did with the 1Gig card. So higher speed cards do show an improvement, though not as much as when they are in a device that can take full advantage of the card, like a PC card reader for instance.
I have a x66 PQI 1Gb SD card that I run TomTom3, MP3's and store presentations on. I have had no problems with this card at all. The higher speed of the card does make difference and improves the performance to both the applications and the speed at which data is copied to the card (not using hotsync).
Ive found that some really cheap SD cards have loads of problems.
I bought a cheap card and it was terrible, kept not working, corrupting files etc. I swapped for a 1gig Sandisk, all is well, no problems at all.
I found that the 32meg NOKIA cards given with most new nokia phones a year or so ago dont work. They are totally unreliable.
You get what you pay for, the faster cards are normally more expensive, and ive noticed the difference when copying big files from ram to card.
Get the better cards, its worth it in the long run.
I was looking to buy a memory card for my jas-jar and was surprised by this page on Kingston's site which says that it only supports 1GB maximum memory. Does anyone have a 2GB card here, anyone used it with their universal?
Kingston
I am using a 2Gb card no problems at all
could you tell me the company and other details of the SD card model etc?
I have a 150X 2GB ADATA SD CARD and works perfectly!! installed in an i-mate JASJAR. I bought it on ebay.
Same here, I am using a 2GB Sandisk Ultra (Black color) and no problems.
I'm Using 2GB Kingston ultimate X120 with no problem at all
Mine is 1 120x "hyper speed", "MAGU" brand card - works fine
I've read it working with a 4GB card also, worth googling to make sure.
Think I'll make that my next card if so, end of Jan.
On that point, it's ridiculous to think that my first hard drive was a massive 40MEGABYTE one in a 386 Amstrad.... here we are with something a hundred times that, the size of a postage stamp.
Madness, but GOOD madness....
My first SD card is a transcend 4GB card but I encountered problems with it. I can store and run applications normally on the 4GB card, but the camera application can't use the card as a means of storage. Thus off it went back for return. I bought the San Disk 2GB Ultra instead and never had any problems.
I can also confirm a working 2GB Ridata 150x SD working ok on my jasjar.
Had to reformat it on a pc the first time, tough, because straigth from the packaging, i only read 1gb capacity in the jasjar.
After formating, all's well!
Still, i didn't saw almost any speed increase...
I know that the device itself probably doesnt get to the top speed of the card, but...
Anyone else could post their toughts on what (if any) speed increases they had on their devices, as well as the cards brands and sizes?
4gb
mine's working fine with a 4gb transmedia card
With my JAMin in the post and I sold my 1GB SD with my JAM what is the maxium I can get and work?
I really want a 4GB can I do this?
Thanks
Yes I can confirm that the 4 gig card will work. Mine is a transcend brand and It works well.
Mike
A 2GB SimpleTech card works well on mine as well. This same card did not work on the Magician.
just to add to the list the a-data 4gb mmc plus works first time in the JAMin.

I have this card and the camera application will not write to the 4GB SD card. Everything else I’ve tried on the JAMin and the 4GB SD card is fine. I had a 1GB SD that worked with the JAMin camera application but the 4GB SD does not. Looking for a fix, I’m going to try stopping the extended ROM from loading but I’ve never done that and I have not loaded anything or hacked the JAMin in any way.
i'm using a San Disk 1GB works excellent. I would suggest you try the 2 Gb one (if that's enough for u )
Hi Tanquen.
Your problem can be fixed by filling up your 4GB SD card with files (such as MP3 songs) till it has <2GB left. Then the camera software can write to the SD card. It looks like there is a bug in the camera software that it can't work if SD card has more than 2GB space.
Try it.
I have problem with Transcend 2Gb x150 SDcard on my new Qtek S200. It loosing connection with SD when reading or writing a lot big files. Looks like this card too fast for S200.
I have just purchased a Sanddisk ultra ll 1.0gb storage card.
It works fine in my digital camera but when inserted into my spv m600 the device wont recognise it.
Is there a storage card limitation with the prophet and if so is there a way round it ?
I have similar problem with SD card Transcend 2 Gb x150. When I got 2 Gb TwinMOS x66 problem disappeared. I think the problem is the too high speed of card. Probably they can’t work at speed which is sufficient for Prophet.
Card problem?
Anybody else had sucess with the Transcend 2gb card x150? I was thinking of purchasing the 4gb version, at same speed, but now I'm not sure I want to waste my money.
Anybody else have a 4gig, can you name brand and speed pls?
I have used both the sandisk 1gb ultra II card and the sandisk 2 gb. Both work fine in my I-mate jamin. The ultra II is much faster, but i mostly use the 2gb card, cause I need more space. If they had a 2gb or 4 gb ultra II i would buy it also...I have also used the PNY 2 gb cards. They all work in my jasjar as well. But like i said, the ultra II works best.
You might need to re-format the card and then try it (not with the camera format option, but from the Jamin)
You can download a beta copy of pocket mechanic (good for 15 days without license) at www.antontomov.com go to forum and check pocket mechanic beta forum for latest version
Thanks eagle1
That's good news Eagle. What are the speeds of your two SD cards?
Anybody use a 4 gig non-sandisk card?
I'm using a Trandcend 150xSD 4 GB and it works great.
i am using an sandisk extreme III (150x) 1 GB and works great
Still no card showing
Thanks people for your posts and advice i have tried a few things including pocket mechanic but still have not managed to get my prophet to accept the Sandisk Ultra ll 1.0gb sd card.
If anyone comes up with a soloution or indeed has a SPV M600 with a working Sandisk Ultra ll 1.0gb please let me know.
Just off to e-mail Sandisk to see if they can help.
Thanks again for your posts.
It seems that high speed SD cards workability balanced on the edge with Prophet PDA’s. So best approach would be Try – Before – Buy. “Minor” problem would be to find store where this approach works for SD cards .
Has anyone tried A-Data 4gb 150x?
Has anyone tried A-Data 4gb 150x? I think this is the cheapest 4GB card out there, so I'm wondering if anyone has tried it on the prophet?
I have just started using a 4GB 'Topram 150x'. Seems to work OK, except can't directly save photos to the SD card. According to other posts, something to do with having more than 2GB of empty memory. However, can transfer photos from main memory to the SD card without any problems. Music and videos appear to store and play back without any problems
SD CARD NOW UP FOR SALE
Still no joy with my new sd card so decided to put it on ebay

Had a word with the staff in the local pc world to let me try before i buy but no go, they said they would not give me my money back either unless the card was faulty. Not that i would buy one from there with the price they charge.
Will keep you all posted on what card i get to work with my SPV M600.
I'm confused
I'm really confused. How can it be that a particular Sandisk 150x speed works, and another one doesn't? Or one 4gb high-speed works, the other doesn't? I can't seem to find a pattern here. Its just random.

My guess is the low speed threshold for high speed SD card actually randomly higher than the normal operation for Prophet hardware. In this case two high speed SD cards which are same type of same manufacture may have randomly different low speed threshold, what is out of concerns of manufacturer. Who would cares about low speed access ability? And now we have to go through risk of buying perfectly good SD card which may not work on our Prophet devices. I hate this.
Hi,
I'm using an Extrememory 2 GB and 4 GB SD-Card. No problems with my Jam aka Magician or XDA Neo aka Prophet.

Just found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7611242138 works out just under £60 for adata 4gb 200x MMC card which apparently has better compatibility.
I upgraded the ROM and I can now save my photos directly to the SD card as long as the picture resolution is 640 x 480 or less. For the higher resoltion photos I have to save to main memory. Can anyone make any sense of this?
Otherwise I am having no problems with the SD card. I am not about to go and buy another one, so I will just use my workaround of saving no main memory and copying to rthe SD card when memory is low.
Hello
do you guys know if a 4 GB SD Card will work with the Universal. I saw in one of the signatures that people are using 2GB SD Cards, was wondering what is the upper limit?
I have an AData 4GB card purchased from some dodgy geezer in Hong Kong via eBay - it works perfectly. So go ahead and get yourself one
I've got transcend 4GB SD 150x works good
I've got a MyFlash 4GB card,
works perfectly

same here.
not good
I will works fine but after you rich the maximum data with combination of software, you can encounter slow moving of any application hanging more often than usual and it will eat your battery 4x faster than normal consumption. :?
The speed of the card doesnt make much of a difference when using the it in the PPC. But you will notice the 150x SD card in a card reader for on the computer. Speeds of read and and write will be really fast, but it has no effect on PPC speeds, the PPC can only go so fast.
iv got a 150x transcend in mine working fine, well iv used it for about 4 months now, it does however have some slight issues with the camera...
before you can save images direct to the card you must have less than 2GB of space left on the card as the camera prog does not recognise anything more than 2gig, so if you try an take a pic with an empty 4gig card it will fail (unless you set images to save direct onto phone)
1 other problem i have encountered, i dont know whethere this was down to the camera, the phone or the card but, when i was away on holiday, i had around 2.5gb of audio and was using the camera a fair bit on my travells, then 1 day when i took a pic it overwrote (is that a word?) everything on my card!!! when i went into my storage space it said that the card still had 3gb taken up on card but when i went onto file explorer there would be nothing left showing on the card other than images i had taken since  bit of a pain in the ass but it hasnt done me any wrong since then, still filling it with lots of audio/txt/images and no more problems (touch wood)
i had this experience with a 1GB sandisk card. I think it happens when a read or write to the SD card fails or doesn't finish [not sure here], happened twice the 1st instance I was able to use the SD card again [reformatted it with a camera, then again using Resco Explorer on the PPC] the 2nd time it happened the card was dead. Right now I am using a 1GB miniSD [in the adapter of course] which I bought for my ex-PPC [a Wizard] I plan to get a 4Gb SD card as well. If the speed of the card is only really noticeable with card readers then I'm ok with that [as I transfer songs and such via my notebook's in built card reader]. Hmm time to go SD card hunting over the weekend!!! Wonder what I'll do with the miniSD though... I have a 1Gb card in my digicam as well, maybe I can pass that off to my lil sis or something...
Ive just bought "Platinum" 4GB. It cost me 82$, here in Poland.
Universal report it have just 3,56GB but it is working as expected. Ive benchhmarked it in pocket mechanic - index:122
best reg,
Piotr
I got a Transcend 4Gb 150x SD Card [Part No.: TS4GSD150]. For around 88USD. It is reported as 3.86Gb under Resco Explorer.
I bought a MobyMemory 4Gb card from, suprise suprise, www.mobymemory.co.uk. Almost certainly rebadged from somewhere else but I though it was a good price at under £50 and works fine on my XDA Exec. They also throw in a free SD reader as some readers have trouble with 4Gb SD cards. I had to reformat the SD card under Windows XP for it to be seen by both the Exec and Win XP (as shipped, only the Exec could read the card).
Have the wiki and tomeraider on there - great for being a smartarse down the pub.

Hi guys,I am new here .
I am wondering if anyone has tried the new 8GB SD card on the Universal? dose it works?
BTW,My hx4700 which is 2004's unit and it works perfectly with the 8GB CF card. so...the new HCSD card will be working too?
I am using the ADATA 4GB 150X card too,it will take at least 12seconds  to boot the phone pad once I press the CALL button in device shut down mode,is that normal?
thanks,
best.

SDHC will not work on old and current devices IIRC it needs a special SDHC capable SD slot for it to work with the newer cards. Dunno when SDHC will come to mobile devices though as I fear that the trend is that manufacturer's are moving towards transflash [aka microSD] and miniSD.
my 4GB main SD card worked so well, i bought 4 more to encode movies on
now i need a better DVD ripper Wondershare pocket DVD stupid is too quirky. can't rip some DVDs, sometime frame seqences willl repeat dejavu...
