GMAIL Mobile APP certificate error on T-mobile WM6 - Wing, P4350 General

Has anyone figured out how to solve the issue with the Gmail mobile Java app and the "Your phone doesn’t have the appropriate certificate to communicate with Gmail" error?
I used to have a motorola razr, and the app worked just fine, so it's not T-mobile blocking me ... but rather something in WM6.

Actually, i just tried this the other day with My Wing, and I had no issues. But, I have had issues before when I was using the Standard T-Mobile ROM. Currently I am using the Touch-IT Rom.

As an FYI for anyone having problems with the stock TMO rom's ... after installing the PDAVIET TouchFlo rom, the GMAIL app works flawlessly, but I had to install the java from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1483665&postcount=24

i prefer to check it from PIE. my homepage is set up as google and it includes GMail (showing last 5 emails) as well as a few other blogs. Checking for new mail without even logging in makes it very quick, just load up PIE. I gave up with the gmail app a while ago...

Yeah, I have google setup as my homepage too... which is nice, but I like the ability to use the gmail app since it has more off the options you would get on the actual site.
Plus there's that whole "hell yeah" feeling you get when you finally get something to work that been making you crazy for the past 2 months! haha... similiar to my getting the resized mms problem fixed.

great results!
Have to verify duprade - I am running a stock wing and simply installed the cab, started that version of Java and ran the Gmail mobile app (no cert prompt or anything.....)
--paklids.

Glad you got it working. I was certainly relieved when I got it to work.... funny thing is I barely use it ... I just want it to work when I do need it.

I actually got this to work by downloading the file on my phone. When it tried to run it, i got the cert error. but i opened esmertec jbed, went to menu, install, local file and it finds the gmail file. Click gmail in the list and it will start the install.
Working fine for me now. You do have to hit yes a few times for it to connect...but this should work. let me know.

I do this also, but the only problem is that it does not display attachments, such as photos. Any ideas on how to fix that?
Thanks.

Epic email issues?

Forgive me if this topic has been raised before -- I searched and didn't see anything.
I am seeing two issues with my Epic relating to e-mail I haven't seen raised.
1. Generic e-mail client doesn't sync reliably. It ran reliably for a day or two, but has stopped polling, and now the only way I can get the accounts in it to update is to go into the client and open them.
2. I cannot seem to get more than 2 gmail accounts added to the gmail client. I have three google accounts, and I had to set up my third one in the generic client after repeated attempts to add it to the gmail client resulted in server connection fails.
Anyone else seeing this? Is it possible I have a defective phone or something I did during the course of rooting (noobnl's one-click v 2.2.9) broke some functionality? Is it possible that the service responsible for the client's polling activity got broken?
Thanks in advance.
My email has been updating automatically fine. I've only had my Epic for a little over two weeks, though. I don't have multiple Gmail accounts so can't say. Also, I'm not rooted yet ( I've been waiting for the 2.2 upgrade). I'm not crazy about everything in the generic client but it does seem to work very well.
I thought I was having the same issue as OP, but I found that I guess I accidentally switched automatic updates off in the settings.
I have had my Epic since it launched and yes this has been an issue for me. I thought maybe I had something set wrong but I don't. I actually check my Yahoo acct through the browser now. It doesn't really bother me to much though so I deal with it. Facebook for Android is the same way usually too.

This is a common issue if you search around.
I've given up on the stock email app and just use K9 mail. Works perfectly. Has a few more options than the stock app too, although like a lot of open-source apps, maybe too many. I still haven't gotten all the fonts to look the way I want. But it's functional and doesn't give me any problems with syncing. An email app that won't tell me when I have new email is useless to me, and the stock app would only do that for maybe a day unless I rebooted. K9 always notifies me of email immediately.
I'm having a problem of my own. I just tried to send an attachment in the stock email app but I get a FC when I hit attach. In the gmail app however it works, gives me the option of gallery or astro. Could the FC in the email app occuring because I uninstalled the myfiles app and it defaults to it?

Exactly the same problem. Stock email client works for a while then just quits.
But anyway, thanks for the tip re K-9 mail. Just installed it and will give it a try. It is indeed considerably more complimicated and will probably take some fiddling to get everything the way I want it, but that's OK -- I guess if I wanted simple but uncofigurable functionality I'd have a feature phone or an iPhone.
Seems like the FB app does the same thing. Anyone have a suggestion for a good 3d-party FB client?
Oh, and does anyone else have more than 2 accounts in gmail?
reboot will fix it for a short period
same problem here... worked for two weeks and now only syncs if manually. Rebooting the phone gets it going again... for a few more days and then it will no longer sync again!

Stopped receiving Yahoo Email

Was working fine till about two days ago. Using the standard yahoo client that comes with the phone. Now I get no new e-mails coming from yahoo, no notifications, even the inbox is acting a bit different.
Not sure if I changed anything but probably was playing around with something and screwed it up. Now I've tried everything and still does not work. Deleted the account and added it again and nothing.
Mind you the yahoo mail client was always way slower than gmail instant push. Should I just try the yahoo app, it has mixed reviews.....
I heard people pushing it thru gmail for faster access, not sure how go about that.
Thanks
Still can't find the problem.
I was using the original email client and no yahoo or hotmail. I downloaded a email client from the market place and works fine. I have no Idea what happened. I deleted me email accounts and then added again and same thing. nothing. Wierd.
Same problem here. Just wish I knew if it was a yahoo problem, At&t problem, or Android problem.
Same here. I just went into accounts settings and reentered my password and it worked for a little bit. After doing that 2 or 3 times it seems to be working fine now.
Now mine is working this morning. Hopefully it keeps working.

i agree that email app has been acting up, certain emails are not feeding through
My Yahoo email account quit working late last week. I had it set up as a POP account. It had been acting up for a couple weeks prior to that.
So, I downloaded the Yahoo Mail app from the marketplace and it functions the way it should. Which is good because I'm fairly certain that was killing my battery and eating up data (maybe the same issue Yahoo was having for WP7 devices?).
I'm still fairly new to Android having the had the Atrix since mid-March after defecting from BB (I had a Torch, had been a BB user for nearly six years) so I'm not sure exactly what went wrong but the Yahoo Mail app is functioning. As far as I know Yahoo email has never played well with Android. My initial foray into Android in 2009 with a Rogers branded HTC Magic was short lived in part due to the fact Yahoo didn't function properly. Perhaps the app is the answer?
Good luck in finding a solution for those still having trouble.
Well mine quit working again. Tried reentering the password with no luck. Might remove the whole account later and re-add.

I tried that, but that didn't work. Both Yahoo and Hotmail doesn't work properly anymore. I just downloaded a email client from the marketplace and seems to work fine, though kinda complicated to get it working the way I like it. But works. Maybe with GB update, it will fix it.

Moving from WM (HTC Sense) to the Atrix, email seems missing

So I'm new having just moved to Android from WM, and have configured all my accounts on the phone (that's 7 email accounts under Accounts), now my problem is simple I see no way to actual see existing messages in the inbox's, when I get a mail it shows up in notifications, but other than the gmail accounts (all 5 of which are available from the gmail app if separately), getting to the yahoo, msn or aol accounts (mostly used of IM, but mail does go to them some times) is just not easy. I really expected more from Android when it comes to email accounts. I've seen programs like Enhanced Email or Pure Messenger in the market place, but before I went and sent money, I thought I'd ask if there was something I'm missing built in or free?
On the same note I'm finding the Widgets that are provided for Google voice, are ugly and others say for email are simply not present at all. All of this is making me miss my HTC Sense interface on WM. However there I'd expect solutions for all of these issue, which is what I'm looking for.
Thanks,
ERIC
You'll find all your emails in the messaging app

I know the app you are suggesting, but so far it always says no emails, yet the gmail app shows well over a hundred, so as far as I can tell its not working, also like to crash on me, so I do not think it is a solution.
Thanks,
ERIC
You can try K9-Mail for an e-mail client. Works amazing for me.

have you configured the email accounts in their respective sections in MESSAGING app as has already been suggested? the app works fine here, so if you are having problems, factory reset and try again. i dont really understand what the problem is. your question originally was how to access them, then when told how to access them you say it's not working. if its not working, start there and figure out WHY its not working......THAT would be your problem, wouldnt it?
not trying to be hostile or funny here, but if you love HTC Sense, you do know there are plenty of androids running HTC sense right?
or you can wait for a HTC Sense ROM
I have five accounts running with no problem. Try a factory reset like someone else suggested.

By default its only set to sync the past 3 days of mail. Go into account settings from the messaging app and bump it up to 30 days. 30 days is the max which is a bummer. On my past win mobile you could tell it to sync all mail.

TIP: Adding Exchange/Hotmail support to GMail

If anyone is interested, the Exchange service on the G4 (at least the T-Mobile version) can be disabled via the apps menu and Google Exchange services can be installed.
This will allow you to use the GMail app with Exchange enabled hosts, like Hotmail/Outlook.com and retain push mail, contact and calendar sync.
Recommended steps:
If you have any accounts using email and exchange, remove them first.
Open Settings/General/Apps/All
Tap on Exchange (The LG one with the blue icon)
Force stop
Disable the Exchange Service
(Restarting your phone is recommended at this point)
Install Google Exchange Services
(Restarting your phone is recommended at this point as well)
Open GMail and you will have Exchange as an option when you add an account.
This is gold to me.
Thanks.
sweet thx!
edit: oops that didn't work for me it gets stuck constantly sync'ing and has some exchange service crashes hmm...
Works fine here so far. I just wish you could disable the remote administration requiring your device to use a PIN. I'd love to use Smart Lock.

It's important that you remove any old exchange accounts in email first, then force close the LG exchange service and disable it. If you don't disable it, then GMail will get stuck syncing.

Just waiting on root so I can keep my damn unlock screen without having to put in an 8 character password with numbers and special characters every time I want to unlock my phone.
I might just bite the bullet and buy touchdown for $20 because I heard it doesn't need to apply the permissions to your whole phone but just the app.

This. I have used Smart Lock on my N5 with no problems even though we are required to have a PIN. Fired up the G4 and immediately noticed once I setup email Smart Lock was grey and can't be used. I thought that by switching to Gmail for my Exchange email I could get around that only to find Gmail doesn't have Exchange support on this phone (until I found this thread).
Has anyone that has followed the instructions at the top been able to get Smart Lock working when Gmail is used for Exchange email? Or does Touchdown get around this?
I am going to test this out tonight - can't goof around too much while on the job!!

Outlook bypasses the security requirement, but it appears to only sync email, not calendars or contacts. You get prompted that Exchange wants you to accept these changes, but you have an option to deny them.

I'll have to look at that new outlook app closer then. It prompted me for the security permissions to wipe phone, pin, and all that crap so I exited out.
Touchdown is supposed to be all one contained environment so I don't think it syncs with the default apps. I could be wrong as I have never tried it since I always got a PIN bypasser working on my old phones. It is free for a month so try it out! I don't care about contacts and it would be nice to have calendar but I'm not heartbroken over it. What I would like to know is if you still get a notification of new mail. I would assume so but aren't allowed to preview it which is fine but I at least need to know I have mail.

Yeah that request seems to be standard whenever you setup Outlook, regardless of app. It was when it came to the lock screen settings, it allowed me to dismiss it.
I just tried the Outlook app and it required far less permissions then adding an exchange email through the android/lg settings. The regular settings wanted pretty much everything. Wipe, disable camera, password type, password length, password expiration, encrypt phone, disable sd card, etc etc. It had everything and probably because my company just checked everything. Now the question is if it would really do any of those things probably not because that it a further settings in Exchange but it just wants to be able to do all that.
The Outlook just wanted password rules, unlock attempts, lock screen, and encrypt phone. It asked to encrypt and I said no and phone still works. I was able to keep pattern lock screen but it disabled everything else besides pin and password. The Outlook app does not integrate well with Android so everything is contained in it's own app. I don't think it does notifications either since I sent an email and waited a good 10 minutes. My phone never went off but I open the app the email shows up but never as a notification.
So maybe the Outlook app will get you by for the time being.
Hrm - I'm on an LG G4 (EU H815 model, unlocked). No Google Exchange Services visible or available in the Play Store ...
I also have an old Galaxy S3 running 5.1.1 (PacMan rom) - that has Gmail with Exchange working just fine. It has the same version of Gmail as on the G4, but also has "Exchange Services" running. I can't find any other information on that though.
[EDIT] I just checked the link in the OP which looks like the latest apk, but the button for Play Store doesn't work - URL doesn't exist.
Quick question - I haven't disabled LG Exchange on the G4 yet - when I do it says that the app will be hidden from then on. What if one wants to re-enable it - will it still be visible on the Apps menu ?
TIA

Yes, just go to your apps in settings and it will be under 'disabled'.
Just switched things over, and Gmail Exchange is working nicely now

Have you been able to figure this out? I have coworkers on a N6, N5, and a HTC One (M7), who all have our Corporate E-mail linked to their phone via either gmail or the htc e-mail app. They can all access their respective Smart Lock settings. On my phone, its grayed out.
Confused on what this does? Just lets you add a second exchange account to gmail? Are emails mixed together or do they remain separated? I like having my Email and Gmail in 2 different apps. I also like the LG email app.

K9 email apk

Hi, I am looking for a K9 email client apk that works with android 2.1 on the NST. The oldest I found needed Android 4+....
Anyone can point me to a working and safe link?

According to the K-9 Mail GitHub, the attached version should run on 2.1 (I haven't tried it).
Thanks, unfortunately I get an error "There is a problem parsing the package"....

Rats.
Google is your friend. Search for the app with a version number that (according to the Wiki) should run on 2.1
Of course, that's what I did, but you might have more luck. Or (hopefully) someone who is using it will see this thread. There are a number of old threads with app packages attached. A copy might be in one of them. I remember people touting it long ago.
Edit: a search of the forum turned up no old copies of the app for me, but I did run across a post complaining about the wake-lock in K9 and Gmail. If you're not wedded to K9, I use a very simple email app which does not skulk in the background waiting for a connection. That means you have to manually check mail. You might want to take a look at it.

OK, so never say "never". The attached K9 apk file installs on my NST and displays at least the first page I figure that's worth looking at. BTW, on that first page it states that it does not work with Hotmail....
Anyway, give it a whirl.

I found an old apk for hotmail and that seems to work (even imports contacts from hotmail)...so I should be all set (re gmail + hotmail)....
Browser (Opera), email (K9 and hotmail), RSS (greader), news (BBC, Engadget,...); readers (kindle; have not tried Google books app yet). a few games (Chess Pro, Landrule, ...), and a few useful utilities (Button Savior, Mathsapp calculator, ...) and the Go Launcher.
Also was a lot of work (finding apk that still work under Android 2.1)....I will probably look into alternative e-readers later this year (such as inkBook Prime and Co)....

Yep, kind of an interesting scavenger hunt at times. There are two packages of apps which might contain something you'd like to try in this thread.
