i have been searching now for two days - but with no success. you are my last help.
i want to create a shortcut to launch the today screen (NOT the today config settings which is fairly easy). i am familiar with the syntax with lnk-files but have no clue how to access the today screen.
i guess it has something to do with shell32.exe, rundll32.exe or s.th like that?
i know that there are tools available but i want to keep numbers of tools small and do not want to install one just for a single shortcut.
why do i need this? i am creating an iphone skin and one of the icons will point to the today screen.
thanks
I'm interested in this too. I've asked before for the same purpose but to no avail.

hello hello!
im new around here, so apologies if this has been asked before, ive done a looooad of looking and couldnt find anything, so..
ive just purchased spb mobile shell, and love it! but i was wondering if there was any way to change the names of the menus (for instance instead of 'Contacts' i could rename it to 'Phone Book' etcetera..) that appear as the buttons on the bottom taskbar?
cheers

you should try the spb forum, though i doubt they would give an answer
thats what i thought too!
i had a tentative poke around the registry to see if i could do it through there, but i dont think i can (though, im more of a novice to this sort of thing anyway )
its a shame because its a lovely piece of kit for the phone, i just want that extra kick of customisation!

find softkey applet.
mate, absolutely top notch advice
i guess it helps knowing all the terminology a bit better!
edit: although in other menus (from the now screen for instance, softkey names remain the same!)
Rustynash,
A simple but effective tool called TWEAKS2K2 will allow you to do what you are asking to. See this link for further details. http://www.tweaks2k2.com/
Another app that will allow you to change the names is SKTools.

What you need to look for is: SoftKeyAppletEx.cpl
This is free and a must have! Drop the file in you windows folder and you will notice an extra option in your settings (might have to do a soft reset).
i appreciate all the advice, but whilst these methods are good enough to alter the today screen softkey names, it doesnt go to change the softkeys when theyre in anyhting other than the today screen (in MS for instance, the now screen still shows 'spb menu' when ive tried to alter it to 'menu')
any ideas?

That is because of the program. I do not think there is away to remove spb menu on the now screen.
hi,
is it possible to completely replace the today screen with an app of your choice, e.g. the phone app? i found a thread describing how to add a dialpad (plugin) to your today screen but nothing about how to replace.
why i am asking this is i want to use the htc kaiser phone skin as my default app (= today replacement)
thx
oliver
pleeease,
just give me any information.
even if it is not possible, that info will be very much appreciated.
or am i touching here a well hidden secret?
or am i asking a stupid question?
as i said any info is more than welcome
I haven't seen anything to completely replace the today screen at startup. But, there are many 3rd party and HTC plugins...HTC Home would be the closest to a replacement and it has a application launcher tab. You can do a search on this if your intersted.
galaxys,
thanks indeed!
at least i am now certain that i have to live with the home screen.
re htc home: as far as i know it does not provide me with a dialpad functionality (or does it?).
i know that there are speeddial home-plugins (like the palm treo one), but i need now a complete dialpad-plugin incl. speeddial. have you seen s.th. like this?
or is it even possible to wrap an exe file (e.g. by a third party software) and make it available as a home plugin?
The HTCHome does not have a dialpad. Also, I haven't seen any Today screen dialpad plugins (but there might be some out there). Just saw this active thread that teaches creating & customizing the Today screen...maybe some help for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332800
Today screen replacement possible...
... see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371394
But I'm not sure it replaces Today Screen. It seems to be just a full screen application.
clio1130, check the dates before posting, this thread is 2 years old...
I have serched not only the forums but my device and cant find a way to customize the password screen. My companys server requires a password (i have tried the reg edit to remove it but it resets each day). The layout is awful and I would like to change it. i have searched windows folder and cant find any images associated with it. i would assume it is most likely rendered like text. so i was wondering if there is a way to change it like the dialpad skins, or is it something that needs to be developed to run over top of the default program.
Any help would be much appreciated
thanks
I should of mentioned I have an AT&T Tilt WinMo 6.0.
Does anyone know how to do this? I have an app idea that im trying to make work that I posted about a few days ago and no one seemed to respond. Im tackling the problem with mortscript and am almost there. I just need to figure out how how to change the spbmobileshell's active window name since it is blank and doesnt have one. It makes my script work for every program....
Is it possible to change this?
If not... Does anyone know how to make a script run that will execute only when mobile shell is active in portrait. waiting for a key board slide and will launch secondtoday... and minimize second today anytime if it is closed to portrait from a landscape position. this may seem a bit tedious, but the idea here is to make a simple script that will allow keyboard slides to open and close apps quick and easily without taking up too many resources
thanks for the help....
Ok, I have a few questions that should have easy solutions that I just can't find... probably because what I'm looking for is pretty specific. Hopefully I can get answers to at least a few of them. I will start out by saying that I am currently running the Energy Reference ROM on a Touch Pro 2 (with plenty of RAM I might add). As I find solutions, I will post them below under the "Resolved" section, just in case someone else needs help as well.
Questions:
----- How do you change the color/skin of the stock dialer? The only one that I found searching was the "dusk" dialer... I'm looking for something that I can change the color of some of the buttons (to blue or something)... someone has to have a CAB with a bunch of different colors???
Resolved:
----- First... how do you change the panel backgrounds in SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.5? I'm not looking to add widgets... not looking to change the background of the Today screen (already have done that)... I'm looking to change the background of the panels ONLY. Without changing the layout of anything. Just the panels. I have tried a few programs/skins (Vostradamus, etc.)... and I just can't figure out how to do this simple thing with them. So I'm hoping there's an easier way (registry edit, setting that I'm just not seeing, etc.).
Fix: ----- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4766529&postcount=730 (make SURE to use WinZip, NOT WinRar or anything else)
----- Second, for some reason, I can't see the settings of "Smartlock" in the SPB settings view (as in, if I go through SPB Mobile to get to "Settings", Smartlock isn't there). However, Smartlock is visible when I switch over to the "stock" Start Menu. So is there any way for Smartlock to appear in the SPB Mobile "Settings" tab? It's pretty weird that it isn't there (ALL of the other programs/settings functions show up, but not Smartlock).
Fix: ----- This fixed itself after a clean reinstall of SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.5.
----- Is it possible to keep all the "stock" icons up on top of the screen and add the clock display?
(I currently have the "data" icon, "signal strength" icon, "phone volume" icon, and "battery" icon... with room for the "X"/"OK" icon when a program is running)
I am looking to keep all of those icons while adding the clock display. Don't know if it's possible, but I thought I would ask.
IF it is possible to put the clock up there, would this be compatible with "Brian's Taskbar" to make the icons colorful? I don't have it on there yet, but I'm just wondering for future reference.
Fix: ----- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612083 (Battclock program... I'm still trying to figure out how to perfect it though). Doesn't appear to be very compatible if you have multiple backgrounds/different screens... but it'll work on at least one of the screens.
----- In the "stock" contacts, there are a few different "filters" (viewed via the menu button). To avoid duplication, I would like to have it always set to "Device Conacts", rather than "All Contacts" ("All Contacts contains SIM and device... which results in duplication). You can change it temporarily but selecting "Device Contacts", but when you re-enter it, it automatically switches back. If anyone knows of a way to permanently/by default choose "Device Contacts", that would be what I'm looking for.
Fix: ----- Registry edit... HKCU/Control Panel/Phone/ShowSim (change from 1 to 0, and they will be gone).
I can help with "third"... look at battclock. It is completely customizable and completely great. Alternatively, there is an option in the settings to display just a clock instead of battery meter in the task bar.
For the "first", try this post from the tips and tricks thread (may need to back out and read some surrounding posts to get a better idea)

Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm looking into the Battclock program, so I will update when I figure that out.
Thanks for showing me that thread for the "first" issue... that led me to the link that I posted in my first post, which is for 3.5.5 (I'm sure they're both the same... but the link I posted makes it pretty easy to understand I think).
Still looking for a solution for the color of the dialer/dialpad. I think I'm just going to have to either delete all of the SIM contacts and same them on my computer (to upload later when I switch phones or whatever).
