background image - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

i am trying to put an image as my background but when i put the image up it looks like it has a gray tint over it. the pic looks fine on the computer or even when i view in the pics and vids software but not when i put it as my background. i used jpg to save the image. thanks for the help

Sounds as if you set your image from the 'Today' settings control.
If you set the background image from the menu in 'Pictures & Videos' program, there is a setting for transparency level. The default transparency level grays out the image. The same thing happened to me.
Try it out and let us know if that works.

worked like a charm. thanks alot

clear background

Hey guys, how can i set my background to clear not tranparent
tnx
clear not tranparent
Click to collapse
dont really understand what you mean
you want it to be clear but not transparent ?
clear then how ?
just a colour ?
You probably mean the picture on your Today-screen.
That is an interesting question I would like to know.
Furthermore since I have upgraded to 1.72 the picture I have on my Today screen has lowered 2-3 mm, so there is a white band right over my date display.
Anyone know an answer to adjust that (and change the picture from being transparant to bright)
i still have no clue what you want
you can adjust the background picture in a theme maker
i mean the opaque wallpaper in today's screen. not transparent
so you want remove your wallpaper?
hey double_ofour, i\'m not sure either what you want, but i\'ll try..
anyway, if you mean the transparency of the picture you\'re using on your today screen, here\'s what you can do:
1 Go to Pictures, select the pic you want to use as background
2 Click Tools > Set as Today Wallpaper
3 Then from there, you can set the transparency level for that. (0-100%)
But if you mean for the picture quality on your today screen to be more crisp and clearer.. I guess it just depends on the quality of the picture you use. I tried using a high res pic as a walpaper, and it appeared to be more crisp and clearer.
Or did you mean for your background to be just a plain screen?? -- I haven\'t really tried that yet, but the only work around i can think of right now is for you to find a nice plain pic (any color you want, perhaps a plain white jpg will do) then use that as your background. (sorry for this lame suggestion, i\'m just trying to exhaust all options)
Is this what you meant?
like Guts_S; i'm also trying to digest what you want to do so i'll give it a shot as well. if you want to clear up your today screen; as in the only thing left is the wallpaper then you should download the app "no plugins today". put it in your start menu; clicking it will clear up the today screen and leave only the wallpaper / pic you have. clicking the app again will restore all the today plugins.
as guts_s said; if you simply want a plain color (no pic whatsoever) then simply save a plain colored pic, sync it to your ppc and use pictures to use it as the wallpaper...
are we there yet?
cheers

whiteish overlay on custom background image?

I tried setting my background image to a custom one and it shows up with this weird white overlay that makes it look really bright (darkening the picture doesn't really help). I have the same picture set as my splash screen and it looks great there, but as a background, it (or any other non-system image I've tried) looks horrible. What's going on here?
If you mean the Today background, and setting it through Start > Settings > |Personal| > Today* - known. It's done on purpose to enhance/keep legibility of items on the Today screen.
There's two things you can do..
A. make your own Theme with the image.
B1. Open the Pictures & Videos application
B2. Open the picture of interest
B3. Menu > Set as Today Background...
B4. Adjust the Transparency Level to read 0%
B5. OK
Awesome. I tried the B option and it worked great. Thanks

Wallpaper Smoked

No matter what .tsk file I use, when I use the option in the settings to display image as baccground. It's always grayed out which seriously makes the pic look crappy. I know I can just use a load of different .tsk files but I don't want to do it that way. I want to be able to change the baccgroud pic at anytime with having it smoked out with some gray transparent layer.
Is the a registry hacc I can do to stop it?
I don't know if there is a registry hack but at least, there is a workaround. Instead of using the today applet to select your background picture, you can use the Pictures & Videos app. Select the picture you like, there is a menu item to set a the selectted picture asToday background just set the transparency level at 0% and you are set
Thanks. Works perfectly.
Glad I helped, but actually you got me thinking. So, I tried to figure out if there was not a way of setting the transparency level via a registry hack as you suggested. I didn't find anything because it's not stored in registry.
What actually happens when you choose a background picture is that wm5 creates 2 pictures (stwater_240_320 and stwater_320_240) in the \windows folder. So instead of relying on the today applet or on the pictures and videos app, what you could do is delete these 2 pictures, then copy your homemade pictures in the \windows folder and rename theme to the above mentionned names. It should let us have a different image when in landscape mode instead of a cropped one. The 240_320 has to be 240x268 and the 320x240 340x188. Why 268 and 188 instead of 320 and 240 ? Because the taskbar and the menubar are 26 pixels wide and (2x26) + 268 = 340 !

'Whitewashed' Background Pictures on the Today screen

I find that when I 'Use this picture as a background' (WM6, Dopod D810) the image appears but it's always 'whitewashed'. By that, I mean it's faded to white - I'd prefer to see the photo in it's full colour with no faded look.
I'm certain that in the early days of WM5 this used to work fine?
Any ideas would be appreciated
use picture & video viewer to find the picture you want to use as your background. tap and hold for the context menu and select "Set as Today Background..." a screen will appear where you can select transparency. set it to 0% and you should be in business!!
Thanks cortezzi, I'll give it a go.
Any idea of XnView Pocket does it? I can't seem to find a 'set as wallpaper' option.
*can't find it*
Also tried out a trial version of Resco Photo Viewer and although it allows me to Save > Use as Home Screen then set the viewable image area and transparency (which I set to 0), however the new wallpaper never appears despite receiving the message 'Picture was correctly set as Today wallpaper'.
Settings > Today shows the background picture is currently set to 'Custom Wallpaper'
Is there a registry hack I can do to stop the default Today settings from adding transparency to new background images?
I had the same problem.. In my case it was caused by the theme I had installed. Try a different theme or modify the one you use.
as helpful as ever....thanks blitzwurst
i tried using a plain colour theme with spb menu but any custom today backgrounds i choose still come out with transparency. how exactly do you suggest i do this? i'm certain that it used to work fine (no transparency) under WM5....
i'm just eager to make use of the great backgrounds another xda user suggested on the Slide2Unlock topic (I think) at http://www.zuned.be !
That Zune site is pretty nice!
In my case I had to get a theme (.tsk) editor and embed the background I wanted into the Theme as opposed to selecting an image from the device to use as a background.
no worries, i might do the same...any recc's on a good theme editor to use?
does it run on the device or on a pc?

Today Screen background

Maybe I'm missing something.
When I add any background image to today screen, it becomes almost white, it never looks real.
Is there any simple way to change it?? And make it look normal??

Transparency setting. Set to 0.
If you can't find transparency then go into file explorer and find your image. When you open it, click menu then set as background. This will allow you to set the transparency of the image.
Guys thanks much!
Actually I tried to set an image from gallery as my background and transparency sett. was there.
However it's not in the theme/backgrounds settings.
