I just got my qtek 9100 and it came installed with pocket msn. Is there anyway I can remove this as I dont have a hotmail account and dont want the hotmail inbox. .... or is there another way of removing just the inbox.
I much prefer agile for msn anyway so dont realy need pocket msn anyway.
Any help would be appreciated.
hi buddy
try the attached file - got it from my wizard extended rom!

Its in the Windows folder and some thing like msnmsgr.exe - can't tell you for sure as I dont have it with me.
Just to finish off I placed a copy in the start menu and removed from the today screen the pocket MSN thing.

Thanks for the repsonses.
I did a hard reset and didnt start the pocket msn software, so it didnt create a hotmail inbox. I've removed it from the program icons.
The messenger software is called instmsgr.exe but if you use that it still creates the hotmail inbox.
Cheers
i too would like to know how to use msn without it making the hotmail inbox. also i'd like to get rid of the outlook email one but i could live with that staying but 2 inboxes i dont use starts to get anoying
I just use agile messenger which is free and does the same job. In fact it goes one better by including AOL, ICQ and yahoo messenger.

I simply made a shortcut in SPB Pocket Plus to a file called..... instmsrg.exe which is in the Windows folder.
To get rid of the mailbox, i guess you could hard reset, create the shortcut to instmsgr.exe then never open the Pocket MSN so the mailbox never gets made. As suggested above.

as shah said it still creates the hotmail account as soon as you sign in using the msn software. oh well guess i'll just have to use a 3rd party app for instant messaging
dean
right figured out how to remove it. go into settings / memory and stop msn and messaging. (this'll stop you having to reset)
load up a reg editor, I used resco explorer. goto HKLM/software/microsoft/inbox/svc then rename the "hotmail" key to "-hotmail" exit resco and press the power button to standby your device and save the reg changes. now if you go into messages the hotmail will be gone.
i've only just figured this out so not sure if there are any minor side effects, let me know if you notice any.
Thanks
That seems to do the trick.
Need just to decide whether to use agile or instmsgr ... The latter integrates better with the os but I think I read somewhere that it uses more data so higher gprs costs ???
I just tried this on the new rom, and it denied me access to the whole messaging package.
No Texts, nothing.
So I'm just undo-ing the change.
How can I get rid of the process called pMSNServer.exe which takes up around 300KB of my precious RAM??

Not to be contrary, but pMSNServer.exe should only be using 56kb of resident memory. I haven't seen it run since I did the following from a few posts up (though I deleted the whole key rather than renaming it):

I already deleted that key as well - I don't have the MSN Inbox in my MobileOutlook...
However, the pMSNService.exe is still running and takes up around 300KB...
which app you use to see how much space does the msn program use when running ?
thanx
I am using SKTools, but there are also many other memory managers...

Dear Lutzh,
I ran this cab on my Toshiba G900 WM6P PPC phone, to remove WLM, and it asked where to install, I chose Storage Card. Now on card I have folder Tools with a file CeSetup in it which does not have a file association. In Add/Remove programs I have nothing new that can be removed. In /windows I still have the WLM files. Did I do something wrong, what should I do next?
Thank you in advance
I have looked just about everywhere for a solution to my requirements but not only can not find one, but have also found next to no discussion on the subject anywhere on Google or many other forums out there so hence this post.
Basically, here's what I want Pocket MSN to do:
i) Allow proper notifications when new email arrives. i.e. Sound and vibrate, not just the a number of unread in the little a blue circle on the hotmail icon..
ii) Allow email to be sent immediately instead of having to got to "send and receive" each time.
iii) Allow me to send email attachments > 300K (or whatever the ridiculously small limit is).
iv) Auto sign-in for Messenger. Every time I loose my GPRS connection I have to remember to go back into messenger and sign-in again.
I scoured the registry but I'm afraid I am bit of a novice in this area and can not find anything that will do the job. Anyone out there have any ideas? Or is this something I need to pray for in a future Pocket MSN release?
For info, I have already applied the excellent MSN_Notify.cab that adds the "Messenger: Contact Online" and "Messenger: New message" notifications to the control panel. Both these options are an excellent start, but unfortunately they do not address the items in my wish list.
Also for info, I have GPRS permanently enabled on my T-Mobile UK MDA Vario using this nifty little reg entry:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\T-Mobile Internet\AlwaysOn = 1
Your thoughts and ideas greatly appreciated.
Bump.
Anyone.... ideas???
email MSN and ask them?
it will prob need the Pocket MSN Code Rewriting and will there for will be in an update IF MS choses to add these to pocket msn
Basically your Wishlist says it all. I started using Pocket MSN as an alternative push-mail method to Blackberry hence the latter is f***ing expensive. I haven't found solutions to the things you mentioned either but would highly appreciate a solution.
Anyone know of a way I can use it without syncing my contacts?
I don't want it even touching my contact list as it adds all these contacts which I don't want on my device and when I remove them here it echoes the changes on my real desktop contact list. Luckily I had a contact list backed up on my desktop pc so I restored it.
So...anyone know how I can use Live Messenger Beta without letting it touch my contacts?
I guess you could disable the syncing of contacts altogether on ActiveSync?
It would stop any contacts syncing but it's the only thing that really comes to mind at the moment
It's a part of WLM, and I don't think you can disable it.

When I installed WLM it installed two programmes on start menu:
Windows Live Messenger and
Windows Live
If I select Windows Live it opens a screen which has Menu option. Within this is an Options setting that then leads to an option called "Sync Options" with this there are tick boxes to deselect synching contacts and e-mail.
Perhaps that might solve your problem?
Mike
That option is actually 'Sync Contacts and Messenger'.
All I want is the second part of that option...I want to sync messenger so it works but not my contacts.
I personally havent sync`d my contacts yet...but looking a bit deeper into this matter i found some registry keys that might help you.
Just open the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Service\Windows Live\Contacts\" there are a few options you can change. Maybe if you set the value "CanDoSync" to "0" it might actually stop syncing your contacts.

I just found this in a thread over in the Wizard forums.
Looks like maybe you don't HAVE to sync contacts anymore...
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I just thought I'd come an taunt all you none beta testers! j/k
The new mobile client is now out!!! It's available on the Microsoft Connect website, and it's pretty damn good...
Feel free to ask any questions about it, i'll gladly answer.
Some of the new features include:
- Contant sync isn't compulsory any more!!! although the contact sync is more intelligent now, and it's much simpler an faster to sort out the initial sync.
- LARGE speed boost.
- New today/home screen applet (Displays search box, and MSN avatar and contact info (All is optional))
- Windows Live config screen.
- Contact avatars (you can have your own now).
- Personal Message support.
- Original MSN Messenger seems to be left un-touched.

So any ideas when this version will be available.
I saw on that thread there are a few people experiancing the same problem. that the their msn contacts are getting added to thier device address book, which i find very annoying. and when you delete of the device it also deletes the contacts from your messenger list
if i was to get hold off msn messenger the one that worked on pocket pc 2002/2003, would it still work?
Dont suppose anyone would have it??
Where to download Live Messenger
Where can I download Live Messenger for the Hermes I have been looking and simply can not find it.
I saw on the connect website from Microsoft that there is a new version out since 16-12-2006. Has anyone been able to download this version already? If so, can someone give a review ?
Thanks
I've just applied to the beta program
hopefully I'm allowed in.
same i have also just joined. see what happens.
Could you guys upload the installer to the xda-devoloper ftp when you recieve it?
Somehow I'm not allowed to sign up for the beta. Perhaps it's the firewall here at school.
What are the latest news about it ?
Is this "contact sync problem" solved in this version and is this availaibe for download ?,
The versions I've tried you're still forced to sync with no other options
Plus theres been lots of problems even getting push with hotmail...the option just won't stick to "when they arrive" but stays on manual sync
is there an answer for this yet?
i would love to use windows live messenger, but hate getting some 250 contacts added to my contacts (in my phone)
/timmy
Just spent hours re-editing my contacts cos of live! eager to find a way of stopping it syncing but allowing me into messenger!
well is there a program that lets you put contacts into groups so that i could just filter all the live contacts?
a free one? or you know uhh one with a key?
falum: im the same as you, its a bastard to fix..
i wish this could be hacked at the moment, ive also found the WLM is pretty resource hungry, anyone else found this?

hi,
When i tried to sign in the messenger, it warned me that my MSN contact list will be added to my phone list which is the last thing I want to happen in this world.
Is there any way i can use live msn without messing up my phone contacts?
Pls advise.
Mark
Yeah, I didn't want that to happen either so I just installed the older version of MSN and was able to stay clear of those issues.

Be carefull with that! I just did the same on my Trinity running the official Dopod WM6 ROM (SEA), and guess what...: after reboot i entered my device-PIN (NOT the SIM-PIN!) and it said 'wrong password'
Had to hard-reset...
I dunno what exactly caused it, but i DO know that before PocketMSN, and after rebuilding my device without it, i have no issues at all...
I decided to leave MSN untouched in any way (i didn't really use it that much anyway)...

Thanks for the heads up.
I was running the 'Official' Dopod ROM but I removed it and flashed back to AX3L's ROM because all of the bugs I encountered with Dopod's ROM.
Using AX3L's ROM, I have not have any issues with MSN like this, but I will look out.

That's a GREAT question!
I was just thing about that on this moment...
So, are there any tricks to avoid that the msn live contacts mess up with the phone contacts, besides installing the old version...?

If you open Windows Live and go into the options, you can configure the sync settings.
Options are...
Select what you want to sync on your device:
Contacts and Messenger
Merge Duplicates with Outlook
e-mail
This will prevent your messenger contacts merging with your outlook ones.

3 options?...
I remember of seeing there only 2...and even with both deactivated, it messed up the contacts list....
I cannot seem to log in to windows live or messenger. Help!
I don't know if anyone has found a long term viable solution to this problem yet, but I have a workaround that some of you might be interested in adopting.
Step 0 (Prerequisite): Please make sure that all your contacts on your phone have the their Messenger email addresses in the "IM Address" field on the phone (or in outlook).
Step 1: Sign in to Live ID and merge all contacts with Outlook.
Step 2: Go to "contacts on the phone and file all contacts as "First_Name Last_Name", to allow at a glance comparision.
Step 3: Open Messenger on your computer desktop and disable "Receive contact updates" for ALL contacts.
Step 4: Manually Edit the contact information for all duplicate contacts on phone and remove EVERYTHING except the nickname from the contact in Messenger on the computer
Step 5: Switch Windows Live ID on the Phone and sign in again. Merge contacts and they should be fixed. If not, repeat process for recurring contacts by clearing all information from Messenger on your computer desktop.
CAVEAT: Do NOT delete messenger contacts from your phone or your computer in an attempt to fix this problem.
NB: This procedure does not seem to work for Non MSN (Read Yahoo) contacts on Messenger.
to solve the problem on ppc you need to upgrade your live messenger by using thi one wich i fixed
right to the problem -the live messenger on wm 6.1 problem is dead ,killed by tommymarsh

Has anybody had the following problem.. and ofcourse, a solution:
I've come to accept Windows Live syncing my contacts on the phone and making a mess with the others. I ended up consolidating with duplicates.
My problem is that I have fully added my contacts again to Messenger and at first everything works fine. I sync with activesync and everything goes well. The issue begins when I soft reset. After I do, Windows live now begins not being able to sync my contacts. It always gives me an error. To make it worse, my contacts are still in the messenger, but they never appear online. People can see me and message me, and I can answer, but I don't see anybody online as I did before I softreset. I can imagine I don't see them because they don't sync. I set sync settings for "as they arrive" for my mail to work like if it were pushed.
Anybody know why that happens? Trust me, I've hardreseted like crazy, I even created a new account and added everybody from scratch and it still happens.
I use the new WM6 update for an unbranded HTC p4350 in Spanish.
Thanks.
Did you regedit and hide SIM contacts... I have the same problem with Windows Live Contacts and I guess it's because that registry modification, so I'm trying to restore that key to show/UNhide SIM contacts...
...updates next...
Updates... It' an issue related to the HTC 3 button Plugin... if you disable it from Settings tab you will see all contacts...
Now I'm trying to enable again the Plugin...
...updates caming next...
Didn't work
Hey.. thanks for your help but none worked.
I haven't touched the registry in what pertains to windows live. Every time I try to sync it tells me it failed to start syncing the congacts.
What I dont understand is why, if I errase the account and sign in again, I do get to see them; but once I softreset, though they are still there, they all appear offline. They can see me but I cant
Thkz
Now I am OK and Windwos Live works fine (sync and online contacts).
1)I disable the 3 Button Home Plugin.
2) restart the phone and it boots correctly without the Plugin activated. I connect via WI-Fi to Windows Live and it works correctly.
3) re-enable the 3 Button Plugin and all things still work.
I dunno why but after this it's ok...
Updates: It worked but this is not the solution...
I'm trying find the core of the problem...
...updates coming next...
Erase all things I wrote before (sorry but I was testing...)
Searching in google I found many people with this problem (WM6 + Windows Live).
Right now the only real thing to do is a work around. From Windows Live you have to tap on Menu, then on Account Options then choose "Change Account" and reconfigure it anytime you Soft Reset your Herald...
I know it is not a solution, but in this way it works...
