Internet Sharing via USB Problem - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have a Cingular 8525 with WM6 Black Satin Rom. I read the wiki and guide for USB sharing, but I still have a problem (activesync is disabled):
1. My ISP and Work Network connections are blank, so I can't choose any connections to use when I'm in the Internet Sharing program. I don't have a data plan. I want to use "wifi" as my connection. It would look like this: wifi-connected 8525 is connected to a PC via USB cable and the PC is now able to access the internet.
2. I can't get the computer to ask me for a driver for the "HTC modem". I'm guessing this is because this happens after you hit "Connect" in the Internet Sharing program and I can't get to that step since "wifi" can't be chosen as a connection for "my ISP" or "my work network"
3. All my network cards are set to connect to Internet and all IP addresses are obtained automatically.

Can somebody who has successfully internet shared with a cingular-branded Hermes please tell me their "my isp" and my "my work network" settings?

ppc (using USB activesync cable) to access the internet thru LAN?

i have an i-mate Jasjar wm5, I am using USB activesync cable to connect my device to my desktop PC. I would like to access the internet using LAN-DSL in my office.
Any idea or suggestions on how to do it?
Suggestions, insights, or any kind of guidance is highly appreciated.
unless you have set it to block it
then your device connected to activesync will allways have the same
lan network access as the pc
you prob have to change connection in settings->connection->connection advantage and pick mynetwork rather then my isp

thanks for the quick reply. activesync (v4.5) is on the exceptions list of windows firewall, hence it is not blocked.
My Work Network connection settings (modem and VPN) is empty. do we have to input any settings on them (modem and/or VPN)? On the proxy settings - I checked the box for 'This network connects to the Internet', I did several tests on unchecking/checking the box on 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' - tried both IP of my desktop PC (192.168.1.12) and default gateway (192.168.1.1) on ports 8080, 80. I noticed though - the box for 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' - always goes unchecked everytime I go back to check the settings.
i did several test settings, but it doesn't worked either. always it says 'This page cannot be displayed, connection was lost check settings'
any idea on these? thanks for your time
guess you could try changing the dns to what the pc is using
and try with other applciations like the network tools ping
and messenger to see if it's a IE issue
I also want to connect to internet through activesync 4.5 usb
hi, i have the same problem, i want to connect to internet through activesync 4.5 and wm5 herms. i am not good a computer use so could you please guide me step by step. i can synchronize but can't use internet.
if its through the office network, you may need to play with some settings to "fool" the office network to let you out.
The way to check what im talking about is to download http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/ portable firefox, and see if it connects by default. In my office, i had to input the LAN proxy settings into firefox to make it work. If this is the same for you, then i guess you'll have to do the same on the PPC. If you do find that this is the problem, and you cannot connect with firefox, post back and ill see if i can help
Turn off "Advanced Features"

There's a setting in ActiveSync "Advanced" and uncheck the box. See if that helps. It apparently has helped others with USB connection issues.
rightclick on ActiveSync icon on systemtray --> connection settings... ---> config as my pic you can access internet thought your PC. If you still can't connect to internet please hardreset your PDA

Frustrated!! Pocket Internet Explorer doesn't work when cradled

I have a Cingular 8525 with WM5, using the lastest version of Activesync. I do not have wifi or 3g internet connection on my cell phone. Everything is synced and seems to be working fine but PIE doesn't work.
My Network management settings are:
Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: "My ISP"
Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: "My ISP"
Under Connections it reads: My ISP, and for select a modem it says "Cellular Line"
How do I enable my phone to use pocket internet explorer when cradled? The reason is that my RSS reader cannot update because IE cannot connect.
Save me! I spent the last 4 hours trying to fix this problem.
Try this;
1. Right click the Active Sync icon on the system tray of your computer.
2. select 'connections settings...'
3. Make sure 'Allow USB connections' is TICKED.
4. Make sure 'This computer is connected to:' is set to 'The Internet' from the drop down listbox.
good luck
Kismat

Your connection settings are not set up correctly. Plus, you have a Hermes not a WIzard. Go to the Hermes wiki and Threads.
Here is a link to the wiki:

Your answer is there! Look for cabs that will help you set your connections!

MacBook's Internet over Bluetooth to 8525

I am wanting to share my MacBook's Internet connection over Bluetooth to 8525 w/ WM6 on it. I dont have a data plan on my phone and i need every way possible to get my phone online.
I have turned on Internet Sharing on the MacBook (running leopard) over bluetooth, but i am unsure what to do on the phone to connect it to the MacBook. I went to Start - Settings - Connections - Wireless LAN - Menu - Network Cards - Network Adapters (there has to be a better way to get to this point) and set My network card connects to: "The Internet". Below this i clicked Bluetooth PAN Driver and set the next option to "Use server-assigned IP address". I left the name servers blank and ok'd out of everything.
im not sure what to do next. i dont see how to try to connect from my phone. I saw instructions here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=InternetOverBluetoothNetwork
which is not for a mac but it has the phone instructions but it mentions clicking the "bluetooth manager" and "join a personal network" on the phone and i cant find this anywhere.
any ideas on what i am doing wrong or how i can do this?

Connections - Some Help Required

Guys,
I'm hoping somebody with some time can just help me out here. My Touch HD is on Vodafone (UK) and I have some issues with connectivity.
I have a home wireless network, along with "Contract Internet" provided by Vodafone. If I start by telling you what I'm after. I basically want all my applications to use my "Contract Internet" network (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA) by default, providing that there is NO active Wifi connection or USB connection. If there is, it is to use that.
Now the problem I have is that the only way I could ensure that my device connected to a) my home resources and shares (pc's and printers) and b) connect through my wireless router for gateway access to the internet (without the net attempting to launch GPRS connection) was to set both "Programs that automatically connect to the internet....." and "Programs that connect to a private network...." connection networks (Start, Settings, Connections, Networks, Network Management) to display "My Work Network" - this seems to allow that....however, when not connected to wifi, the GPRS or Contract Internet connection launches fine, but doesn't allow access to lots of applications which normally would utilise the network....only the internet works. Windows Live, RDP, you name it.....it doesn't work....unless I switch back the "Programs that automatically connect to the internet....." connection to "Contract Internet"
Ideas...help...please!
Cheers in advance
**bump** Please - at my wits end!
