I know Artemis doesn't come with 3g support but is there any kind of work-around possible? Will an upgrade to WM6 make any difference? ...
If only I could get to surf at decent speeds from my laptop via my pda...
Your answer is HTC Trinity p3600, 3g needs a chip to make possible.

Can any one please tell me if its possible to use Magician with 3G networks after software/OS upgardes.. I don't know any thing about this 3G technology, and want to know if it requires special hardware on the mobile devices? Or the software can just use the exisiting communication hardware to utilize 3G networks?
Thanks,
Nabil.
It' impossible... The device need specifical hardware (Umts receiver, etc..). Sorry...
The Nokia N-series phones set the standard for 3G on a phone the size of the Magician. So maybe in 2007, you will see the Magician 3rd Generation PocketPCPhones embrace 3G.
The HTC Hermes is (unofficially) announced for the first half of next year to have UMTS built in with the size of the Wizard (same as Magician, only thicker). I guess we will have such devices in 2006 already.
Why can't they build a SD Card with a 3G receiver in it, like the pcmcia cards?

I think I should lease my handhelds from now on, seems like every 6 months, a new device comes out :-D
I read the official specs of the Qtek S200, and they suggest it supports 802.11b/g. BUT, ALL the Qtek s200's available here in the czech republic, list their specs as 802.11b ONLY.
Is this possible? Is it a hardware issue, or is there perhaps a way to activate G through a tweak somewhere?
G Wifi Activation.
In attached file, you can find a tweak for making available G Wifi in 9100.
I have a S200 with G Wifi already activated, so I can't tell if it works.
Use at your own risk, but 9100 users say it's perfect.
You have to copy .cab file to your S200 memory, and click on it for install.
Thanks Mondelman
Anyone already tried this out on a Qtek S200?
still wondering
I'm still puzzled whether this is a hardware issue, or a software one? I can't test it on a device. It maybe will make a difference in the use of skype or streaming media, if its limited to B standard.
I cannot understand how could qtek make a g-less model for czech republic.
I have not much experience on the subject (newbie really) but I think I have the same issue (S200 with Dutch OS). Bought the phone in NL and it came with the Dutch OS I took a better look at the box once I got home to see the specs ... 802.11b if you loko on line specs they do mention "g"
I hope that a patch will be available as for the 9100.
btw this was my first posting so Hello to all (great stuff!!)
Makis, have you tried the above patch? Does it work?
I have seen my Prophet connecting at 24mb. Since 802.11b is maximum 11mb, I assume that G is working on the Prophet out of the box. That being said, my laptop connects at 54mb. I'm not complaining because the wifi on my Prophet has done everything that I have asked it to do including VOIP

Yep I've had a similar experience. Got my s200 and on the box it only mentions 802.11b in it's specs. However, I have locked my router so it only transmits 802.11g and my s200 can still access the network ... so the s200 MUST be capable of using 802.11g. I have also noticed an increase in speed accross the network to my s200 allowing me to stream video without buffering that I could before (when I have my router locked on 802.11b). While it's not blistering fast, it is still quicker, so as Matterhorn says it's probably got a max of 24mb rather than 54mb, but hey that's still miles better than 11mb.
I did not try the patch my self I know someone who have though. I ll post again about this tomorrow.
:?
krale as qdabean mentioned above I just tried the same thing -router only on g
Result: still able to access the net from the my s200!! So who needs a patch
qdabean, it is strange though cause I got a reply recently from qtek specifying that router should transmit on bouth b&g in order to get good results... Then again it was the saem person that told me changing the language on the s200 is not possible and the only solution was to return it to the dealer and ask for another version
but who cares "g" works case closed.
Thanks guys
Is it possible to tether my 3G connection from my 8525 to my Universal? This would help me because I live in the US where the 3G doesnt work for the Universal.
Anyone is it possible?
Should be possible with bluetooth. I've done it with my Hermes and a PocketLoox720
The exact process involved depends upon if you are running the original early version of WM5, or a later AKU WM5 or WM6 Rom

I think the Universal has an old ROM but for the Hermes if I use the original ROM from Cingular I am not sure? Thanks for th info though I will post when I get my Universal later this week. Thanx.
hi folks, not certain if this should be in networking or development, (so have posted in both)
my question is simple and could do with some advice. is the edge/gprs frequency on the radio a software or hardware setting?
my htc panda does just about everything i need but according to my network (o2 uk) the phone is gprs only. my understanding is that edge runs on the same freqency so i wanted to see if i could change the device to run on edge
is this possible?
any help/advice would be appreciated
cheers
Chris
Its hardware: Look at the phones manual to see if you have it, if you do, you can recieve it where ever theres signal. If you dont, get a TyTN II!
even if you have edge, you probably wont browse on it in the uk. Networks claim thy have edge, but i dont know anyone on ay network [this is personally] who has connected to edge ever. So, dont fret, if you have edge, and arent connecting to it, theres not much you can do.
And dont get a tytn ii, theyre riddled with problems [as its forum shows]
Rory
I regularly use EDGE both on O2 and Orange in the Uk! Also havent had any problems with the TyTN II's functionality!
Each to their own I suppose!
cheers folks,
basically i am on o2 and stuck on gprs. i love my panda and can bypas most of the speed issues using opera mini (and wifi at home)
was just hoping is all
I figured i would ask before i got to deep.
i have a cdma ppc6600 (Harrier) i searched and read that this is for gsm only
My question is that because of the network itself or is it whats in side the unit?
My Harrier is no longer connected to the network, so i dont care if the phone or mail or whatever aspects work at all, i just want to play with it and get it to 6.1, i always thought that the only differences between a gsm and a cdma phone is the radio/phone aspects of the unit and the parts required to get it that to work, but not the pda area of it, am i mistaking?
harrier has no WM5 or WM6 why cause thats how it is, what you can do is find a broken lcd siemens sx66 and take its motherboard and put it on your harrier.
