Hi,
I've been having problems getting some cellular info for my program. In both cases I open a tapi line to the "Cellular Line" device...
Problem 1:
I am trying to use lineGetCurrentSystemType() in extapi to get information about the current connection type. In other words I want to know if the phone currently has GPRS or GSM capability. I can successfully open the line, but everytime I call lineGetCurrentSystemType() I get LINEERR_OPERATIONFAILED. Can anyone help with this, or offer a better solution?
Problem 2:
I want to know if the phone is roaming, or on its home network. I've been using lineGetLineDevStatus() from TAPI, but dwRoamMode is always LINEROAMMODE_UNAVAIL. Can anyone tell me how to get the roaming status?
Thanx,
Blair.
PS. For those that have been asking, lineGetLineDevStatus() also has a dwSignalLevel property that I've been using to get the signal strength / signal level of the "Cellular Line" device.
Just a quick question
Hope you don't mind me asking but....
Reading your P.S. I was wondering how difficult it would be to use the Get Signal Strength Call to provide an alert when Mobile Signal is lost, just a load beep/beeps would do. I rely entirely on my mobile for work. I have to be contactable at all times. On my old Motorola V66 I could set an alert tone to inform me when I have no signal, but there does not seem to be any way to do this with the XDAII!
Any info (or a working app) would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Hi All,
Received my XDA Exec yesterday and have been having a good read through this forum for hints and tips.
The first thing I did was play with the Exec in full blown 02 mode, noting how slow it was etc. etc. The good thing about doing that is when I switched to Corporate mode, I was amazed at how much faster it was!
Anyways, what I'm looking to do is to show what phone network i'm using in the Today screen.. Is it possible to do this from Corp. mode ?
The other thing I'd like to know if its possible, is on my Nokia 7610 it shows the cell information, or the Area code that i'm in. It's not life or death, but if it can be done i'd appreciate knowing how..
Other than that i'm mightily impressed with this pda/phone.. speed, size, quality. I guess as I've never used a PDA before, I don't know what i'm missing..
cheers
Have a look at Hudson IP Dashboard.
It displays the name of the network you are connected to and the signal strengh as a percentage. Very useful indeed.
I didn't know it did this until I installed it on my Exec.
I'd always just used it for counting GPRS data on my iPAQ.
Here it is:
Start>Settings>Phone>More>
Change Language to english and enable Broadcast Channels
Add any of the word like "Cell"
Then say no of Channels as "50"(w/o inverted commas)
You will start receiving SMS from that particular Cell where yr phone is currently logged...

Call me dumb, but what exactly does the broadcast channels do?
I tried changing the settings but nothing happened?

Add me to that "dumb" list, because I couldn't see what it did either..
The Hudson IP dashboard is quite good though. It shows the network i'm connected to, but I didn't have a lot of luck with it showing bandwidth reading of my wireless connection. Can't have it all I suppose..
Thanks for the tips though!
Hey all,
Has anyone tried the navizon software. Sounds really good, but on my GSM only one, every time i run the program my GSM loses signal and i have to restart my phone.

Anyone got it running?

post from Navicom forum
A staff member at navicom put this reply on there forum
It disconnects and reconnects so it can get the current cell id. Cell ids are only reported when it changes so in order to get the current one we need to do that. It should only disconnect for 1 second though and reconnect immediately. Do you have any special network settings? Such as choosing your network manually?

How can i check this on the XDA 2. I cant find any settings on how the network is selected. Any ideas?
Dan
Hi,
I would like to know if there are any registry value to change or modify interval time to refresh the cell-id searching procedure more often.
I need to grab cell-id with my HTC and when I travel in a big town with a hight density of BTS antenna I can found some cell id but I think there are missing a lot of BTS because numbers of Cell-id is low.
For example in France on a highway, coverage is one BTS every 2-3 kilometers and in a big town I think it is more depending of the GSM traffic (maybe between 800meters and 2000meters)
Regards
Richard
Richard, your mobile checks a certain number of cells (towers not handset) in the millisecond internal range (GSM Standard); this is true for when your phone is idle as well as in dedicated mode (during call/data transfer). Number of cells it looks for it decided by the operator and depends on the cell plan. you cannot control how often this happens no matter what, you can however control what frequencies to check but you need special software and hardware for this.
I hope this explains it sufficiently as if tried to not be too technical in the details.
