welcom to the VISTA world
I've had nothing but issues with Vista and WM6 on my Hermes.
The few things I can suggest.
1) As you say Disable the Advanced networking....
2) Connect directly to a USB port, not through a hub.
3) Try soft-resetting your phone between connection attempts.
4) Remove associations between Vista and your phone.
I find that the first time I connect it everything's good, but on subsequent attempts it's hit and miss.
If you are using vista, there's an update for Windows Mobile software on the microsoft website.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
you need to install 6.1 for it in order for WM6 to work with vista.
Cheers

If he is using the same version of WM Device center on both computers and i am assuming he is, then i doubt it will fix the problem by downloading the latest version as i have that version installed on both my pc's.
I had the same problem, where windows just detected the device as an unknown device and therefore wouldnt let me sync.
right click on my computer and click manage, then plug in your device and see if you have any unknown devices appearing if you do right click on it and click uninstall then unplug the device and wait 10 seconds then plug it back in, this solved it for me. Although i still have to do this every so often. But at least it allows me to sync with both my pc's
I think my VISTA detected my Dopod 818Pro cos the VISTA prompt me to enter the password for my Dopod. But the driver is not installed cos it's still display as Unknown Device in the Device Manager.
Also on my Dopod, it don't have the Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC for me to untick the "Enable advance network functionality" option. But once I untick the option on my wife's HTC Touch, my VISTA is able to detect and install the driver and shoed up as Mobile Device in Device Manager. But the Touch still not able to connect to VISTA. It display an error (with the red cross) in WMDC after a long attempt at connecting.
I got no problems syncing both my 818 and wife's Touch on XP.
So can any of the gurus here help me out? At least let me know anyone in here have success syncing an 818Pro in VISTA? Cos it's kind of crap to have the latest OS (VISTA) but not being able to perform a simple task that can be carried out in XP without any fuss.

HTC Shift WLAN problem
Have you had any problems with your WLAN Marvell sd8686. I can not seem to get mine to work correctly. It seems to have some problem with it. When I go to connect to a network. It does not show any of the 4 networks that should be in range. 1 sits 2 feet away. I have tried everything com manager turn off and on, reinstall device, restart, Format and reinstall Vista. It was working for the first day then I turned it off and back on after that I have had to mess with it like restarting etc. It works sometimes and others it doesnt. I tried to find new drivers but cant seem too. I called HTC europe support but they are closed. Any Help would be great.

So I dont have WiFi to use.

This is exactly what I am finding....WiFi has somehow died a natural death, or been nullified by some activity I may have been doing (lots of reinstalls etc)....
Did you find any help? Thanks
https://phatpipez.homeftp.org/HTCShift/Shift/
just check my stuff, maybe it will help.
its always good to make an Acronis backup of your working shift.
this way you can restore it easily.
Thanks - that's very nice of you to provide those d/l's.
If you, or anyone else is running XP can you confirm the following for me in terms of the WiFi card setup from control panel?
Device Manager-Network adaptors - Marvell sd8686 - advanced
802.11bg Ad Hoc - not present
802.11D Support - disable
-Everything else "Not Present" except
Radio Off - Enable Radio
Does this match whateveryone else has listed under this Advanced tab?
For network I have configured everything to be basic/normal...taken firewall off so there's no blockages there...
Thanks
HTC shift (clio 160)
