YouTube Pocket - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hey Everyone!
I have just developed my first site for the PPC / WinMo / Smartphone devices and wanted to get some feedback from the developers. It's called YouTube Pocket. It is basically a pocket portal for YouTube that uses TCPMP and the FLV Plugin to stream live YouTube videos to your device. It can be found here:
http://ytpocket.ath.cx
I have come here for 2 things:
1) Advice / Suggestions / Comments on this site.
2) Help with my link structure. I am rather new coding with WinMo so I am having a small problem:
My current system involves me using the MMS Protocol and TCPMP. When the links are clicked it has a prompt warnign that this could be unsafe. This is a huge hastle over time, so I am trying to find a fix. I have tried using the ASX/PLV/M3U solution, and it works, but I end up with these issues:
1) If I name the asx/plv/m3u a fixed name (default.m3u) then apon the second load it prompts me with an error stating the file already exists and asks if I want to replace it because WiMo is saving the file to 'My Documents'.
2) If I give it a dynaicname (ie SONGIDNUMBER.m3u), then I have no prompts (unless loading a video more then once) but I am flooding 'My Documents' with useless m3u files.
Does anyone have any ideas to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
-Anthony

Hey,
I wasn't really completelly happy with the solutions at hand, so I decided to take things my own way. Thats what great about an open market, everyone can write their own things their own way.

I tried here and it returns
"Cannot perform requested action at this time"
This is over the WiFi connection so speed shouldn't be a problem.

Same problem as above, reason being = Windows Media Player gets launched instead of TCPMP with latest Youtube plugin or perhaps HTC Media Streaming.
If I go simply to youtube.com and click video (in PIE), TCPMP automatically is launched and with the help of Youtube plugin the video gets streamed and played back.
The good thing about your youtube pocket site is that it is light in size and is quicker to browse than the youtube.com site.

Works fine here. Very cool. Make sure you have the mms file checked in tcpmps file association.

liquidsilver & EazyVG: Make sure to follow this step under 'Getting started':
You must then select 'MMS Protocol' under 'Settings->File Associations' inside of TCPMP.
Now go to 'Settings->Advanced' and set 'Manual A/V offset +/-' to '-400'

bookmarked your site in my PIE

YouTube Pocket+TCPMP > m.youtube.com

delete my post

thats pretty nice
thanks

invalid file format
I did everything said to do for the site and the download but it said it cant read the file format for any of the youtube videos, i tried clicking other formats but it still doesnt work. can anyone help?

dresplace: Does TCPMP open and give that error or does Windows media Player? Also, did you install the plugin and select 'MMS Protocol' and 'Flash Video'. Also, there is a flaw with the FLV Codec that I was just made aware of, it has to be installed to the device, meaning TCPMP does too. If you installed them to the card try to device and see if that helps.

thanx for your help

Yes TCPMP opens and gives the error message not WMP. and yes i installed the plugin and selected MMS Protocol but i cant for mylife find the Flash VIdeo option in there to click so no i didnt click that option.. OO and yes i installed it to the card not device i will try that and see what happens

If you do want to use it on the card, it can be done, what you need to do is use 'File Explorer' to go to 'Device->Program Files->TCPMP' and move the 2 files in there to 'Card->Program Files->TCPMP' and soft reset and it should work. If I know how to write cabs I would probably try to fix that one, but I don't x.x

My bad
Indeed I needed to enable MMS in File Association under TCPMP .... now it is working nicely.
Excellent .... as stated previously bu me, your site is fast compared to it's parent site. Perhaps you can come up with a better and easier domain name for your site. BTW, keep it going

Worked Very Well
I just browsed to the http site offered and i downloaded the tcpmp player with the plugin, reset and voila it works as charm. thanks so much.

GREAT
Just Got It Fixed And Its Working Great With No Lag Wonderful Program I Love It

Why is my video out of sync with the voices?

It works well but I am still having issues trying to move the files over to my SD card. You said two files but don't they install into the same TCMCP folder?

itunes m4a in SE player

I use itune agent to sync my itune playlist to my x1
and it's working out great apart
from songs i buy from itunes store
not acc drm songs mind you but the non drm itunes plus ones
that apple changed to
most my songs are m4a and they play just fine
but the songs i payed for make the media panel act up
it sounds like it's starting but then it quit
and look like it's using back and forth in and out of the
playing song mode
have anybody tried the same setup ?
mmh problem still exists here with R2, anybody found a solution? searched forums as well as with google but found no solution though
well tried the touchflow player and same deal
suspect they both depend on wmp to play music
and thats the culpit
if you try other players like coreplayer it works just fine
of cause that mean one can't use the se media panel for playing
yeah, theres no m4a decoder for winmo wmp I don't think.
will they play in wmp on desktop? I wonder if theres a codec we could copy across from there?

I seriously doubt your statement that WM does not support the Advanced Audio Codec, ACC, (which is M4A - Mpeg 4 Audio) since AAC is one of the (official) audiocodec's used in the MP4 video container.
AAC is also alot easier to decode then MP3, which makes it even more strange that that would be the case.

AAC is supported just fine in WM6 .
However I remember some problems caused by Itunes Pro AAC's, since they use INVALID TAG's. This was done to indentify the buyer.
You could have a look with some decent tagging software (foobar FTW ), and strip the non-standard tags from the music.
Whether it can decode the audio part of video isn't a debate. It's whether it can play M4a files natively.
There's various sources that say it can and it can't.
I can't get my bog standard DRM free M4a files that I download as part of the NIN|Ja tour sampler to play on my x1 using WMP.
I can get the same files to play using pocket player, ergo WMP does not support M4A
does anybody know exactly which tags mess up playability in media experience panel ?(before i start testing myself).
btw i do use foobar, however i dont see the tags mediainfo is showing me anywhere within foobar, i might be mssing something (e.g. the properties dialogue does not show my mail address)
I had this same problem, but solved it using a little utility call PutPinfInItsPlace. Here's a short extract from the "ReadMe" file:-

Yes. That is exactly what i meant with the invalid tags. Thanks for finding, i searched for it but i found nothing.
(i was under the impression Foobar could too though, but i don't buy from the Apple Music Store (big apple hater here, ) so i could not test it, sorry)

Music stops after 1 to 2 min

Hi all,
My TD2 has started acting very strange when playing music, after 1 to 2 mins it stops when using TF3D music player.
I read some other posts that had a similar problem and followed the fixes but it has not helped me.
My music stops even if the screen is alive (ie on mains adapter)
I tried removing all the htc album art and folder.jpg from the music folders but that has not helped.
I have also checked the micro SD power save settings to see if that was the problem but sadly not.
Im not sure what i should try next except a hard reset (i really do not look forward to restoring all my settings) so i hope you can share some more ideas
thanks
Just to add this problem is only present when using TF3D music player, but not when using core player
join the club
I only have this problem with win6.5
with 6.1 every thing is perfect
u canm use pocket player
it will not turn off the screen when playing but it will only go dim
and it will work good and its power consumption is good
I too am using 6.5 and manila 2.5, but im not sure what has been the cause of the problem.
Last week everything was working fine, the only thing ive changed since then is adding some more albums. I have tried removing the new albums but still the problem persists.
Very unusual
I just tested this on the ROM in my Sig and am not having this issue.
Perhaps it is ROM related? Are you all on the same ROM?
im using HG R6 same as you :S

Interesting.
Then it would have to be either the way the music is stored, or an issue with your storage card.
I know that with cheaper storage cards, the data transfer rate is less than the higher quality ones.
FWIW, I don't have my music organized, just one folder for Music, sub folder for Praise and Worship Music and a second subfolder for recorded songs from Resco Radio (in case I already have the song in the music folder.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I tried copying the music to another SD card and the problem persists, so i think it is safe to rule out SD card fault
I have my music arranged on the card the following way
Music folder on root of the card
Inside music folder i have a seperate folder for each album
Inside each album folder there are the MP3's and folder.jpg
My music has been stored like this since i have had the device (since TD2 released in UK) and it has not been a problem before.
I think a hard reset at the weekend may the best solution
First, the get-outs. I don't use the HTC player, nor your ROM, nor even WM6.5, so I might be talking crap here. But, perhaps the problem might be corruption of the music database file, specially since it started since you loaded more albums on. I've seen this with other devices (specifically Cowon) before.
The database file seems to be AudioManager_Eng.vol, which is in \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\
Since you're considering a hard reset anyway, nothing to be lost from deleting this file (if it allows you to, you might have to shut down TF first) and letting the music player recreate it again.
Apologies in advance if a) this has been mentioned elsewhere b) it doesn't apply to WM6.5 any more, and c) it screws up the muisc player!
Thanks for the suggestion, i deleted the music database and it did no harm
When i launched TF3D music tab it took a while to rebuild the database but sadly it has not remmedied the problem
Does music play properly from TD2 internal storage? Might be a clue, if it does.
I know you didn't ask for the suggestion(!), but why not use a good but simple 3rd party app like Nitrogen? It loads very quickly, as though it was a "native" app, you can get skins which are very plain, black, with good album art. And it plays more formats too. I've honestly never been tempted back to the TF3D player since using it.
playing music from internal storage exhibits the same problem
playing music from 3rd party music app (core player) works correctly.
Getting closer to solving this, i hard reset my phone earlier but the problem persists.
So i delete all my music and add 1 album at a time.
so far no problems
I can only conclude either one of my tracks/albums is corrupted in some way and freezes TF3D when it reads the library OR there is a limit to how big your library can be. mine was over 12gig.
either way im gonna keep adding an album a time, reset phone then test until i find the bad album. when i do i will remove the bad album and try adding another, this should prove if its a size problem or just some bad file.
Plz keep us informed about ur progress in solving this problem
and No using 3d Pary Programs Like nitrogin or core player doesnt solve the problem

Harking back to my Cowon D2 experience, it took just one album to corrupt the database. It could be badly tagged, or the tags contained accented foreign characters which the player didn't like, and it would freeze the player. It's a pain in the posterior to find out which album is responsible
.
Ok i have solved my problem (well found it)
There is 1 album in my collection that causes TF3D to Stop playing music when it tries to add the album to the database.
Im not sure why though!
All the tracks play fine in other players, all the ID3 data is legit and not containing any unusual characters and the bitrate is only 160 so its not too much for the phone to take.
When i get home i will rerip the album to mp3 and have another go.
I hope this thread may be of help to others with this trouble!
lesson here seems to be its not the software causing the problem but the media its trying to play, although the reason is not evident

search this forum for the word "music" im sure i seen a topic about this very problem
I had the same issue a while ago.
Turned out there was one album on my SD card (Lungs, by Florence and the Machine) that was causing the TouchFlo music player to stop playing any song. I removed that album and the problem went away.
I still have the album on my computer, doesn't seem to be anything unusual about it.

[Solved][Problem] Music Tab: no songs!

in music tab there is this message (in italian):
"i titoli musicali nella playlst non esistono piĆ¹. potrebbero essere stati eliminati o ptrebbe essere stata rmossa la scheda di memoria"
"music titles in playlst no longer exist. may have been deleted or ptrebbe been rmossa the memory card"

What's the format of your music files. The Sense Music Player only plays MP3, AAC, AAC+ and WMA.

Maybe you can try to delete the file \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\AudioManager_Eng.vol
Don't know, just something you might try.
Just a question: did you try waiting for a couple of minutes? It's possible that your mp3 collection is very large and the program needs some time to collect them all. (I think the loading is indicadet by a revolving circle, but that could also be just for album art.)
If this doesn't help then I'm out of ideas^^.

i cancelled all the songs except 2...and the problem was still there.
the solution is in the "AudioManager_Eng.vol" file.
thank you
Glad you solved it.
I'm wondering what might have caused this. It seems that there was no auto-update of the "AudioManager_Eng.vol" file on your device. Now that is precisely what i'm looking for!
Did you change something in the registry before this happened?

maybe something that i've installed....i don't know. or i made a mistake creating a playlist....
i don't have other players installed as core player or similar
I sometimes get a blank Music tab after being connected via Disk Transfer. I connect and disconnect via USB (in disk transfer mode) several times during the day whilst at work. When I leave at the end of the day, I sometimes find the Music tab is empty. I am advised that the files in the playlist (that I was listening to on the way into work that morning) no longer exist. If I rotate the Leo to the left whilst in Now Playing view, I am then told "No Music Found". Even after giving the phone half an hour to think about it, I am still left with no music. Deleting the AudioManager_eng.vol file immediately resolves the blank Music tab issue, causing the library to rebuild. It takes a minute or so to populate all the albums and artist data. But then it's fine.
As charging via USB on a PC is my only option at work, I'll have to be careful connecting and disconnecting willy nilly. The "Safely Disconnect" option in XP's taskbar has been removed from our work PCs, as has just about every other useful option, so I can't disconnect 'safely'. I was hoping to leave the phone at the "Connect to PC: Choose a connection type" screen (i.e., choose ActiveSync, Disk Transfer etc) but on trying that now under Windows 7, Windows Explorer instantly kicked in and loaded the root of the Memory Card. Doh!
On disconnecting, I am told No Music Found in the Music tab, but after about 30 seconds, my albums and artists have been populated. That's what it should do, I suppose, but on occasion it doesn't succeed.
Shame there isn't a "Do nothing" option when connecting to a PC by USB!
I too am having similar problems. Once I have done a fresh rebuild of the "AudioManager_Eng.vol" everything works fine. But if i connect to my PC via "disk drive" mode once disconnected I have to rebuild the library again, same applies after a soft reset.
Is there a solution to this? i.e disable rebuild.
Thanks

Sharing music from phone to PC, is it possible?

I know that it's possible to stream music from my Desire HD to any device that supports DLNA, but is it possible to stream my music via WiFi to none-dlna devices like my PC?
In other words, is it possible to let my phone work as some kind of a "network" player, that maybe Windows Media Player or another player on the PC would be able to discover?
Best regards,
Martin.

Yup, it is possible and its easier than you think... I do it via XBMC
http://xbmc.org/
1) Download xbmc from the above link and install on your pc
2) Configure the network settings within xbmc to allow other devices to connect
3) From here onwards, its easy peasy, navigate to the "connected devices" app on your phone, and simply choose from the media you wanna send (music, photos, video)

There are other methods such as twonky...

But because I use xbmc on a machine plugged into my tv, it makes sense, as its my media centre in the house - and being able to instantly view pictures or music from my phone is a bonus

You can also set up Windows Media Player to support DLNA streaming and play music from your phone on your PC.
If any of you are familiar with Linux, then Ubuntu should provide an out-of-the box solution.
It worked great with XBMC, although not exactly the way I wanted it.
I thought that maybe I could browse through the music on my phone via ie. Media Player on my PC or something like that (just as if my phone was connected directly to my PC), and then stream through wifi from the phone to the PC.
But this solution I can live with

That's what I thought, but I couldn't find the setting in Media Player where I can enable this feature. This way, I can "share" my music with my friends as long as I'm connected to the same Wi-Fi and as long as they've enabled DLNA in WMP.

same issue here. i have not found a solution
I've been on JB so long I don't remember how ICS behaved. You should be able to find and play your media (video, music, pictures) here...
Then something has changed.. I simply have a pc with media streaming enabled, and all devices in the network allowed... I can see pictures through the "gallery", and music with "music play", but cant see videos. This is what I see.. I wonder if a factory reset would solve the problem..

It sounds like a permissions problem is preventing the Note from seeing your video files; especially if music and pictures are accessible. Is sharing enabled for the folders that contain your videos? What format are they in? The Note won't display content in formats it can't play. Although I can't see fewer formats supported in JB than in ICS.
All are .avi
I just dont understand what went wrong..

I don't usually play content off my PC's, I use my server. But I just checked and the content showing up on my Note that's on my PC is in my documents folder. I don't remember adding or changing any settings so maybe that's where the Note's looking. Try putting a video in your documents folder and see if the Note finds it. If it does, it's just a matter of figuring out (on the PC) how to have more folders exposed.
A factory reset fixed the problem.. I can now see videos again.
Media video streaming not working
Hey guys, I signed up just to share this fix, because this was driving me crazy, as I watched a lot of videos around the house streaming from my computer, especially while cooking / etc. I had the same problem with no videos showing up in my list under "nearby devices", and I really didn't want to do a factory reset. Anyways, this worked for me-
Go to Application Manager under Settings.
Flip over to the right under ALL
Scroll down to Video Player
I hit all of the buttons. Force Stop, Clear data, Clear Cache, Clear defaults.
Voila it reloaded my videos and everything's back again where it was before the Jelly Bean update.
Hope this helps.
Funny thing I ended up getting another galaxy note 10.1 for my brother that was not updated.. I was able to see my media pc, then I updated it and was not able to see its content anymore... I tried the above suggestion, but it did not work.. Only force stop and clear data was available..
**update** I set my brothers note aside and started messing with mine to try and replicate this problem.. I was able to do it by changing the pc's media library name (network and sharing -> Change advanced sharing settings -> Choose media streaming options...) After changing the media library name and rebooted the pc. I was able to view the pc on the list, but no videos were showing up... After an exhausted search for various apps to reset the default video player cache, I started the process of resetting the device, then it kinda hit me.. What if the problem is not with the device, but windows media player cache.
After doing some research I found on my windows 7 64bit, the wmp cache files are located at "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player". In the Media Player directory there are some .wmdb you must delete.. The one named "currentdatabase" requires stopping the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.. After deleting them, I restarted WMPNSS and launched WMP.. I checked my 10.1 and all the videos were listed. Anyways, thats it.
i got the problem last week...
i had my samsung all share running on my pc (not Wmp).
i could play all content shared with it on my tv (photos, music and videos avi & mkv).
i could view the photos and stream music on my note.
in video player i could see the server but no videos showing up.
i could play the videos with no problem on my note through thirdarty app mediahouse available on playstore.
cleaning cashe of video player ad ALL other allshare related apps sorted the problem.
and now... i'd installed serviio just to check something, and guess what... i cannot see videos shared wth it
i've cleared cashe again and it helped.
after comming back to samsung all share the situation came again... clear cashe again and it works again...
so i think it is our tablet firmware problem rather than wmp problem mentioned by rugburned.
or maybe both
.
Does the device need to be rooted in order to be able clear the default video player cache? Because the clear cache and reset defaults are never available to me.
