Music stops after 1 to 2 min - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hi all,
My TD2 has started acting very strange when playing music, after 1 to 2 mins it stops when using TF3D music player.
I read some other posts that had a similar problem and followed the fixes but it has not helped me.
My music stops even if the screen is alive (ie on mains adapter)
I tried removing all the htc album art and folder.jpg from the music folders but that has not helped.
I have also checked the micro SD power save settings to see if that was the problem but sadly not.
Im not sure what i should try next except a hard reset (i really do not look forward to restoring all my settings) so i hope you can share some more ideas
thanks

Just to add this problem is only present when using TF3D music player, but not when using core player

join the club
I only have this problem with win6.5
with 6.1 every thing is perfect
u canm use pocket player
it will not turn off the screen when playing but it will only go dim
and it will work good and its power consumption is good

I too am using 6.5 and manila 2.5, but im not sure what has been the cause of the problem.
Last week everything was working fine, the only thing ive changed since then is adding some more albums. I have tried removing the new albums but still the problem persists.
Very unusual

I just tested this on the ROM in my Sig and am not having this issue.
Perhaps it is ROM related? Are you all on the same ROM?

im using HG R6 same as you :S

Interesting.
Then it would have to be either the way the music is stored, or an issue with your storage card.
I know that with cheaper storage cards, the data transfer rate is less than the higher quality ones.
FWIW, I don't have my music organized, just one folder for Music, sub folder for Praise and Worship Music and a second subfolder for recorded songs from Resco Radio (in case I already have the song in the music folder.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I tried copying the music to another SD card and the problem persists, so i think it is safe to rule out SD card fault
I have my music arranged on the card the following way
Music folder on root of the card
Inside music folder i have a seperate folder for each album
Inside each album folder there are the MP3's and folder.jpg
My music has been stored like this since i have had the device (since TD2 released in UK) and it has not been a problem before.
I think a hard reset at the weekend may the best solution

First, the get-outs. I don't use the HTC player, nor your ROM, nor even WM6.5, so I might be talking crap here. But, perhaps the problem might be corruption of the music database file, specially since it started since you loaded more albums on. I've seen this with other devices (specifically Cowon) before.
The database file seems to be AudioManager_Eng.vol, which is in \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\
Since you're considering a hard reset anyway, nothing to be lost from deleting this file (if it allows you to, you might have to shut down TF first) and letting the music player recreate it again.
Apologies in advance if a) this has been mentioned elsewhere b) it doesn't apply to WM6.5 any more, and c) it screws up the muisc player!

Thanks for the suggestion, i deleted the music database and it did no harm
When i launched TF3D music tab it took a while to rebuild the database but sadly it has not remmedied the problem

Does music play properly from TD2 internal storage? Might be a clue, if it does.
I know you didn't ask for the suggestion(!), but why not use a good but simple 3rd party app like Nitrogen? It loads very quickly, as though it was a "native" app, you can get skins which are very plain, black, with good album art. And it plays more formats too. I've honestly never been tempted back to the TF3D player since using it.

playing music from internal storage exhibits the same problem
playing music from 3rd party music app (core player) works correctly.

Getting closer to solving this, i hard reset my phone earlier but the problem persists.
So i delete all my music and add 1 album at a time.
so far no problems
I can only conclude either one of my tracks/albums is corrupted in some way and freezes TF3D when it reads the library OR there is a limit to how big your library can be. mine was over 12gig.
either way im gonna keep adding an album a time, reset phone then test until i find the bad album. when i do i will remove the bad album and try adding another, this should prove if its a size problem or just some bad file.

Plz keep us informed about ur progress in solving this problem
and No using 3d Pary Programs Like nitrogin or core player doesnt solve the problem

Harking back to my Cowon D2 experience, it took just one album to corrupt the database. It could be badly tagged, or the tags contained accented foreign characters which the player didn't like, and it would freeze the player. It's a pain in the posterior to find out which album is responsible
.

Ok i have solved my problem (well found it)
There is 1 album in my collection that causes TF3D to Stop playing music when it tries to add the album to the database.
Im not sure why though!
All the tracks play fine in other players, all the ID3 data is legit and not containing any unusual characters and the bitrate is only 160 so its not too much for the phone to take.
When i get home i will rerip the album to mp3 and have another go.
I hope this thread may be of help to others with this trouble!
lesson here seems to be its not the software causing the problem but the media its trying to play, although the reason is not evident

Listen to music when device goes to sleep
When i listen to music it stops when the device goes to sleep. How do you keep listen to music when it goes to sleep?

search this forum for the word "music" im sure i seen a topic about this very problem

I had the same issue a while ago.
Turned out there was one album on my SD card (Lungs, by Florence and the Machine) that was causing the TouchFlo music player to stop playing any song. I removed that album and the problem went away.
I still have the album on my computer, doesn't seem to be anything unusual about it.

mxp: Album Art

I've recently started using my phone for music (slow, rite?) and have synchronised some of my albums from windows media player (PC) to my memory card. They all have album art, and on PocketWMP the cover arts show, but on the MXP they dont. I mean, some of them do, something like, 2 out of 30, but thats it.
I did happen to notice the default tracks provided on the phone showed the cover arts. Am I doing it wrong? Why do these cover arts show everywhere except for on the MXP album art displayer?
Btw, im using R2AA MXP, i dont like R3AA one.

All works!
It works for some of my albums, just not most of them.
Use mp3tag application to add album art : )
I have same problem ....
All files syncro from PC hads its own cover art , but main panel shows only 5 % of cover art .
I have purchased pocket player , grate for streaming audio ( Tunner2 ACC+ ) , also for ape , ogg , acc ....
but I have same problem like main media panel .
so mp3tag its a mobile util or pc one ?
Can you tag other files than mp3 ? , like mp4, m4a , its the most I use .

Send me a link to download a set of your mp3's... I'll see what's wrong with your mp3 tagging skills, I'll find the root of the problem, and I'll teach you how to tag properly .
And yes MXP is slow.

That free piece of software is a miracle for tag audio files
I did it manually and it worked grate , now , MXP , windows media player and pocket player displays correctly , cover art on mp3 , m4a .
THx a lot for information .

Can I do the same with video files ? ( mp4 )
I can see that xperia recorded videos are display correctly , I mean on , thumbnail image on MXP .
Wich software can help ?
I found an important point for me, the cover has to be changed to "front cover" if it's not in the mp3tag, some covers weren't assigned as a "front cover" and now I changed it and the covers are there.
I have the problem I don't know how to change all my covers on the PC to "front cover"? Anybody an idea with mp3tag, I can only change 1 album with the same cover picture at the time...
I figured out the problem I was having; when using WMP to syncronise my CDs, it auto-tags the tracks from the CD when putting them on my PC, with the data it gets from the net, so on the PC it's tagged. But all it does is create an image file in the folder that the tracks share - WMP logically picks that up. When you syncronise the tracks with your phone, it doesnt sync the album art... but...
If you manaully then tag your tracks, you will see that there actually isnt any album art tagged to the track, but if you tag it with the album art, syncing the track also syncs the image. I would imagine that im actually wrong and that the image actually always does get sync'd because WMP was picking it up on the device, but maybe the MXP doesnt pick up folder art, and only track art.

Sense Music Player

Hello!
I Just bought a new HD2 and i'm loving it so far... I had an Touch elfin before..
I don't know what the hell is wrong with sense music player.. I filled my 16gb sd card with mp3, and every music i start playing freezes after 1 minute or 2...
It simply freezes. I have to hit pause then play to it work again......
I fired up windows media player, updated the library and it works perfecly..
Seems to be a problem with HTC Sense, is it a know issue?
I have ROM version 1.48 WWE.
Thanks!
sloved...
Hi me to had the same problem den read on an other tread where someone said dat converting all the files to LAME.mp3 works so i tried it and now got close to 1000 songs playing perfect.. Try it... google for a LAME converter
Just a suggestion . . .
Goto My Device > Application Data > HTC > AudioManager_Eng > Change file name:
"AudioManger_Eng(or AudioManager_Eng.vol)" to
"AudioManger_Eng.bak(or AudioManager_Eng.bak.vol)"
Power Off & Restart your HD2,
Goto Sense Music Player, let the music load all . . Is it Okay now?
Note: You can delete the "AudioManger_Eng.bak" . . .
(If you see this thread and tried out earlier, ignore this message)

Did you placed all music files (mp3) in "Storage Card\My Music" or "My Device\My Documents\My Music" folders ?
Neither.
I created a new directory in my microSD card...
To test, i copied two music files to "My Device/My Music" and removed the SD card, so the only those 2 mp3 files were found.
The problem persisted =(

I don't think this is due to ROM 1.48 or 1.66, coz I don't have the same problem with both ROMs.
I have about 40 over files with total over 400 mp3 songs in "Storage Card\My Music" (My Device\My Documents\My Music is EMPTY). So far so good, music don't freeze/stop.
I using Sandisk 16GB microSDHC class 2(transfer rate, 2mb per second) memory cards, don't know whether anything to do with your cards
Maybe, you should test again, once you upgrade to New ROM 1.66
Cheer
I also have my music in Storage Card\My Music and have no problems.
I have a Class 6 adata 16GB Storage Card.
(Read/Write: 15/9 MB/s)

Try with new MP3 files with clean file ID tags such as artist name, album name and album art.
I remember reading somewhere HD2 is picky about it's file IDs.
Hope it helps.
problem is the Id tag of the genre, get rid of it
and it will work
I will make some more tests...
I still don't know if the problem is with my SD Card that is class 2 i think. Or if it's the ID TAG...
PS: I've upgraded my phone to Artemis v2.8 (ROM 2.02) and the problems remain...
i've been looking into this, it probably isnt your memory card so dont worry about that. This problem only seems to happen when you put alooooot of songs on at once
i did this also put like 4 gb worth of songs on, the people that are saying theirs works might have not got enough songs on yet lol
anyway what i am doing atm is filling it slowly got about a 1.4 gb worth on now som of them have been converted to wma.. no problems yet but then again i am expecting sum after i hit about three gb
i am going to try various different methods and i will let you know if i have fixed it.
....are many different methods out there, i'l try em all (properly) lol andd get back to you if i find anything fruitfall...htc really need to fix this problem thogh.
Thanks hentro!
I Really filled out my 16gb card with mp3.. That really seems to be the real problem.....
Anyway, i've deleted most of my music reducing them to about 2gb.. I've let the music player rescan and the problem gone away...
I'm adding more mp3 to see when it will start freezing again..
I'll keep posting my progress
Thanks for helping out!!
Just to let you guys know I reduced my music folder from roughly 4.37GB to a "size on disk" of 4.10 GB (4,405,592,064 bytes) and it started working again, so it seems to have some kind of 4GB limit !
Really sorry for the late reply,
anyways GOOD NEWS i think i have found a a way around this problem...
well what i did was convert all my files through winamp before syncing. I have found winamp to be very useful and reccomend everyone to use it as it can do almost everything. I have about 5.5 gbs worth of music on my 16gb Class 2 mem card. Very Happy
The HTC music player still is a bit slow as soon as you add music but if your abit patient with it it rescans all files etc and its good as new. i think i do have a few files on my mem card that are not converted but these wer synced through wmp11 and i think their is too few of them to create the problem we are all are trying to avoid.
THIS IS WHAT TO DO.
1.Download Winamp
2. Connect Your Hd2 via usb and select Disk Mode NOT active sync
3. go to Options>Preferneces>Portbales,X:\(Your Drive Letter) click on the "Transcoding" Tab and do the following (picture below) make sure you force tanscoding of files over 1kbps to make sure it always does it (advanced settings tab) (Everything shud be slear in picture below

Then You can sync your files by dragging from winamp library to your portbable device on the left panel...(it should take a little longer to sync, but worth it if it WORKS lol)
let me know if this helps, also i ddnt add loads of files at once.
Thanks for reading lol

Damn! HTC really needs to work on this music player.......
yhep for now this is the only thng that has worked for me... i tried clearing id tags up but requires toooo much effort for one and ddnt work for me.. might have missed a cupl files.....
agree with u htc have sum work to do... hope its soon
Ive tried removing ID3 tags.It works but then you wont be able to identify artist, album etc.
Any other way?
Because its hard to select songs this way.
Not to mention in landscape you will only see unknown album.

FAT32 file system, anyone? 4GB file size limit? Dunno if Sense somehow sees the music directory as 1 file?
i have mp3 close to 8gb (kingston class 4) in my hd2, working fine
u might wanna try different version of id3 tag, i've been using the latest (believe shd be v2.3) without any issue.
u can try copy album by album to isolate the problem if any of the songs/albums causing the problem. u have any double-byte characters in your tags? or very long field tag?
eg. japanese fonts, long song name.

[Solved][Problem] Music Tab: no songs!

hi,
i have some songs in my hd2....but the Music Tab is empty.
I tried to put them in different folders (internal memory, sd) .... but nothing seems to appen. any ideas?
the song are mp3; i can see them with explorer; can play them with windows media player.
in music tab there is this message (in italian):
"i titoli musicali nella playlst non esistono più. potrebbero essere stati eliminati o ptrebbe essere stata rmossa la scheda di memoria"
"music titles in playlst no longer exist. may have been deleted or ptrebbe been rmossa the memory card"

Maybe you can try to delete the file \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\AudioManager_Eng.vol
Don't know, just something you might try.
Just a question: did you try waiting for a couple of minutes? It's possible that your mp3 collection is very large and the program needs some time to collect them all. (I think the loading is indicadet by a revolving circle, but that could also be just for album art.)
If this doesn't help then I'm out of ideas^^.

the solution is in the "AudioManager_Eng.vol" file.

Glad you solved it.
I'm wondering what might have caused this. It seems that there was no auto-update of the "AudioManager_Eng.vol" file on your device. Now that is precisely what i'm looking for!
Did you change something in the registry before this happened?

maybe something that i've installed....i don't know. or i made a mistake creating a playlist....
i don't have other players installed as core player or similar
I sometimes get a blank Music tab after being connected via Disk Transfer. I connect and disconnect via USB (in disk transfer mode) several times during the day whilst at work. When I leave at the end of the day, I sometimes find the Music tab is empty. I am advised that the files in the playlist (that I was listening to on the way into work that morning) no longer exist. If I rotate the Leo to the left whilst in Now Playing view, I am then told "No Music Found". Even after giving the phone half an hour to think about it, I am still left with no music. Deleting the AudioManager_eng.vol file immediately resolves the blank Music tab issue, causing the library to rebuild. It takes a minute or so to populate all the albums and artist data. But then it's fine.
As charging via USB on a PC is my only option at work, I'll have to be careful connecting and disconnecting willy nilly. The "Safely Disconnect" option in XP's taskbar has been removed from our work PCs, as has just about every other useful option, so I can't disconnect 'safely'. I was hoping to leave the phone at the "Connect to PC: Choose a connection type" screen (i.e., choose ActiveSync, Disk Transfer etc) but on trying that now under Windows 7, Windows Explorer instantly kicked in and loaded the root of the Memory Card. Doh!
On disconnecting, I am told No Music Found in the Music tab, but after about 30 seconds, my albums and artists have been populated. That's what it should do, I suppose, but on occasion it doesn't succeed.
Shame there isn't a "Do nothing" option when connecting to a PC by USB!
I too am having similar problems. Once I have done a fresh rebuild of the "AudioManager_Eng.vol" everything works fine. But if i connect to my PC via "disk drive" mode once disconnected I have to rebuild the library again, same applies after a soft reset.
Is there a solution to this? i.e disable rebuild.
Thanks

Music transfer problem.

Can any body recommend a decent program to transfer music my pc to my phone?
Media go is really slow on my pc, I tried the old disc to phone and that keeps putting music in the wrong order and instead of having 12 songs per album I keep getting 12 one track albums.
What are people using and any ideas why this is happening?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I use the media go and mixzing on phone. Didnt find it too slow and i put 30alb on in one go.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
The thing is with the pc its only got about 512 ram and 1.6 ghz proccesor which I find quite funny as the phone is almost more powerfull than the pc lol
If I were to put 30 cds on at one go it would be an all night job.
I need something that's not so intencive on the pc but actually works properly. Ideas?

The thing is with the pc its only got about 512 ram and 1.6 ghz proccesor which I find quite funny as the phone is almost more powerfull than the pc lol
If I were to put 30 cds on at one go it would be an all night job.
I need something that's not so intencive on the pc but actually works properly. Ideas?

I agree, easiest and best way.
Thanks for your help and suggestions guys. I'm guessing the music must be currupt or something cos even copy and paste not making it go on in the right order and mp3s keep skipping.

Can't explain the skipping, but is your metadata all correct?, that could explain why it doesn't show correctly. What player are you using?
I'm sorry I have absolutly no idea what metadata is. I'm using mixzing and paid for the upgrade lisence.

....and is what affects how players list tracks, so if I take 10 different tracks from 10 different artists, but edit the Album as "Selected remixes of the last 10 years", the player will list them all in the same album.
I have just started using MediaMonkey to go through my collection and update every track so I have the right album art displaying with Meridian on my phone, but still with some tracks the album art isn't being displayed at all but everything else is ok.
I understand what you mean now but its quite weird cos on my computer it displays everything in the right order with the correct tags.
I guess all I can do is blame some sort of curroption, it should be as easy as
1 take it from the external hard drive ( where everything is in the right order etc )
2 copy to pc ( still in the right order )
3 copy and paste to sd
But it all goes horribly wrong on the last step for some reason and it takes ages to sort it all manually but I may left with no choice
Thanks everyone for your help so far

+1 MediaMonkey is a great program for fixing all your ID3 Tags/Metadata/Album Art/etc not to mention a good music player too, highly recommend checking it out

I've been a diehard Winamp fan for the last few years but MediaMonkey is my number 1 player from now on and the features it has makes it a breeze to organise your collection. I've got my mothers music collection on my external, every song artist and title is in CAPITALS , and have put off transferring it to my lappy because of the amount of work it would have taken to sort it out, and whilst I'll still have to go through each individual file, sorting the casing i.e "Artist - Song Title" from "ARTIST - SONG TITLE" can be done with a click, for the whole collection.

Sounds like a good program then I'll give it ago. I just can't bring myself to sit there doing it manually, I spent long enough doing that on my old ipod and it is a grueling task. One click sounds good so I'll give it a blast.
Thanks for your contributions everyone

My Battery: Violated by Mediaserver

I've come to notice that Mediaserver occasionally eats a disproportionate chunk of my Nexus 4s battery; it took the cake last night. I left work on a full charge and screwed with my phone through the evening, with MS taking a small ~10% chunk, before leaving it at around ~60-65% for the evening.
When I woke up, my battery was around 37%, with 1h20m worth of screen time. Here is a screenshot from around 35% battery.

I've read everything I can find on Mediaserver (on XDA and elsewhere) and can't really explain why it uses half the battery. I have Play Books, Play Magazines and Play Movies disabled. The only media I have on the device period is some music cached/save to the device from my Google Music account. I wasn't listening to Music at any point last night, and I don't see anything unusual in the running applications.
Any thoughts? This isn't an issue I experienced on my Galaxy Nexus with nearly identical usage patterns.
I've had the same problem with my Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. Mediaserver is a service that can be used by pretty much any application but mostly the media related one (picture / video / music).
This mean either you have an app or file that is hanging up.
Try disabling media related app one by one and/or remove media file until the problem goes away.
Sometimes its a bad media file somewhere on your device. Bad download, corrupted picture/video, etc. I found that going through a File Manager and deleting items/folders that weren't necessary in the storage area cleared the problem for me. Give that a shot.
Same problem here and I just noticed it this morning. I'm actually glad that the battery doesn't suck as much as I thought and it's just this stupid media server. Still, a bug that needs to be fixed. Does anyone know if this has been reported to google yet?

I had Media Server running more than I thought as well and used:
http://www.gromkov.com/faq/repair/mp3_validator.html
It scans your entire MP3 collection for corruption, mis-matches, etc. and can correct it for you. It also makes a copy of the mp3 as a .bak file so if something did go wrong you can restore the original.
Out of my 1400 mp3's it found about 300 songs that had some kind of problem (stream error, corruption, mismatches, etc.) after it was all said and done there were 3 that were un-repairable.
Since I re-sync'd to Google Music my media server power has went down.
Just a FYI.
This question was already asked and answered yesterday. There is a really good explanation in that thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026888
Well I scanned every single file on my phone and I only have 2 mp3s. They're both ringtones and both checked out fine. Yet this is what I saw this morning...
I had this problem a year ago. I solved it by deleting a couple bad photos i had taken that showed up as 0 bytes and were blank in the gallery.
From my experience, the media server drain is definitely caused by some corrupt media file(s) on the phone, not just mp3s. Could be photos, music, or videos. This could be jpg, gif, png, bmp, mp4, avi, mkv, mp3, aac, ogg, flac, etc. Pretty much any kind of media file the mediaserver looks for.
If i were you, i'd isolate the problem by moving all your media files temporarily off the phone to a pc, rebooting, then seeing if the media server is still acting up.
If the drain has gone away, slowly re-add your media back to the phone and re-test to isolate which folder or set of files is the problem. If the drain continues, do a manual search using a file manager for any other media files, then remove those too.
Well I deleted a bunch of files as well as ran the Rescan Media app. Problem seems to be gone for now.
What the hell is Mediaserver? Kill it dead. That's such a rude thing to see. 53% of the battery life? I'd be so upset.

Mediaserver is the actual service that apps such as music players and video players, such as Google Play Music, use to actually play music and videos. So its not mediaserver itself that is the problem but most likely an app that's installed that uses the service.
well if it is it's a stock google app. The only music player I have installed is google music which I hardly ever use. No other media players of any kind have been installed.
It seems to be the consensus in the xda community that it media server issue is related to corrupted media files, be it images or music. However I don't think this is the case.
I have the issue only when playing my sd card music from a music player like power amp. It doesn't happen when not using it. I turned off all scanning within the app and it is still happening. I think this is a 4.2 issue... I deleted all of the files on my SD card then resynced and it's still happening! This was not an issue with the same EXACT content on the galaxy nexus. Can anyone help fix battery drain issue!?
