Hi,
I've noticed that my pimg.exe keeps crashing in several folders. I can start the program but then when I navigate to certain folders the program just closes unexpectedly. I turned the Error notification option ON and a report is sent every time it crashes...
I it very anoying because one of the folder where it crashes is the default folder to where photos are saved when taken with the camera.
Is there a fix to the crashing pimg.exe
My pimg.exe crashes whenever I go to the a folder containing video files. It doesn't matter if the folder is in memory or on the storage card. Pimg.exe works fine on pictures.

I've learned some things about this. If your symptoms are similar, this may help.
I've been having pimg.exe crashes on Windows Mobile 6 (CE OS 5.2.1238), HTC Advantage 7501, factory ROM.
I've found that it has a tendency to crash upon tapping Menu, and the odds go up as the folder of images gets larger. A 18MB folder with 200 images (mostly .jpg) is more than enough to cause trouble, but I can sort of work around it. Certain other functions are also crash-prone, such as breaking out of view mode.
First, avoid the application's Menu, if you can. It's safest to navigate to he image folder in Total Commander 2.5.1 and double-click on the image I most want to see. If the image comes up, navigate using arrow keys ONLY. If you must break out of view mode to the browser mode, or must use the menu, WAIT, as discussed below.
Second, if you start the app directly, navigate to your target without tapping any images. Once there, it may be useful to highlight several images (tap-drag) before tapping menu.. It MAY be useful to use the arrow keys to scroll up and down a little way from your target so that ~6 rows thumbnails above and below your target are drawn. Now, JUST WAIT. 1 minute is sometimes long enough for a 200 image folder. Tap Menu and see if it cashes.
Third, It may be useful to navigate to a small folder of images (less than 1 screen of thumbnails) and let it draw he thumbs, then come back. I have sometimes gotten from a state where none of the above work, to one where some do.
Any reader who has information on this, please reply to this thread!

In HTC home plug, I can set one of the soft buttons on the launcher to "launch programs folder". Is there a way to map this function to a hardkey? I don't want to download a third party launcher--I just want to be able to press a button and open the programs folder (and not in the file explorer view).
Any help would be wonderful.
Another folder in which I could put shortcuts in would also work. I just want the icons large and finger friendly like the programs folder.
Is it possible to use folderview.exe to do this?
Check here for the solution...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1644004&postcount=7
I used this to create a shortcut in each and every sub folder under Programs so once in a sub folder, I can easily go back to the Programs folder without having to close the window and open the Programs again from the HTC Home App.
I called the shortcut '!Back to Programs.lnk' so it appeard at the beginning of every folder and the shortcut is setup as follows...
Code:
53#\Windows\folderview.exe #?\Windows\shellres.dll,-8208
Copy the above into simple binary text editor and save to have your shortcut.
I guess you wouldn't need the '53#' and '?\Windows\shellres.dll,-8208' bits to link to hardkey. This is more to give the shortcut a nicer icon in the folder view.
Been looking for this. google search "launch programs folder" found this thread. Ought just be a 'icon view' option in file explorer dontcha think? Thanks!
Hmmm... it's not doing quite what I'm after...
As the FolderView is an application, when you click the X in the top right corner, it closes the window. If you were in the 'Start' => 'Programs' folder and were in a sub folder, pressing the OK button would simply return you to the previous folder.
I counter acted this by adding a shortcut to the FolderView app in every folder as mentioned above but for some reason this no longer works correctly. I think it has something to do with the HTC Task Manager I have upgraded to (v 2.0.30995). Works better than previous version but for this one thing, I think it's stopping multiple instances of the FolderView app.
So, this brings me to... How can you load the Programs Folder so you can go back from a sub folder?
Can anyone hack the FolderView app? A simple 'Up' button could be added to the lower left of the window, similar to the view of File Explorer. This way, the X can still be used to close the FolderView App and the 'Up' button takes you back up the Programs list.
In case your wondering, I have various apps loaded on my Pocket PC and have categorised them and placed into sub folders. I've then created an icon association to each folder so it looks a little more pleasent when viewing. However, I want to freely browse the folder. See attached Tumbnail...
the link works on sprint touch. I call it "_Up" so it always appears at first position.
I note that folderview when you close it doesn't appear in task menu like file explorer and most other app.
folderview with some options would be great because it's a fast finger friendly interface ... must faster and easier to configure than various cubes.
ps
I came across this in another thread. I haven't tried it yet but I'm gonna take a look when I get a chance.
Possibly it could be used to add some features to folderview:
http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/
I'm glad I stumbled across this thread because I think it's exactly what I want to do...I just need a little help as I'm not as savvy as some of you guys might be.
What I'm wanting to do is create sub directories in my programs folder like viglante_xix does (grouping Office, GPS Programs, Media Programs, etc.) and point to it as a shortcut in rlToday. I think I might have been able to figure this out on my own after tinkering, but I don't have the folderview.exe in my windows dir. Can someone send me a copy or know of an alternative?
Also, I'm not completely ignorant to programming; I know a little VB, Java, and C++. I understand how the code above works, but what program do I use to make this shortcut...preferably something free.
Thanks in advance.

Check encryption setting for storage card
What I have noticed is that when I copied the pictures to storage cards and encryption is turned on, the pimg.exe (picture viewer) crashes. I experimented by turning off encryption and then recopied the same folder with images to the storage card and did not get the same error on the same folder.
Perhaps you might want to try that.
Hi
Can anyone please tell me how to select more than one file in file explorer?
If there is no scroll down on the screen, it is so easy just to touch and slide finger over files...
But when there are more files in the folder and it's not possible to show all of them on screen, sliding only scrolls down and doesnt select files...
I could fix that probles with editing files with computer, but that means I need to connect the device and pc everytime I would like to move photos from dcim folder to photos folder, for example...or I can just move one by one what is annoying and takes time...
Thanks
The default file explorer sucks, i think most people either use Resco Explorer 2010, or Total Commander which both allow a selection of multiple files.
I agree the best solution is to use a different file manager , just thought id mention if you use the swype keyboard in standard file manager you can tap sym three times to get to the arrows screen , click select text which should remain pressed and then the arrows will let you select multiple files.

I was thinking the same thing after a few days of purchase. As you mentioned, with a few files its easy but once its more than a screen can view, it loves to scroll and nothing else. In addition you cant copy / move files from the Windows folder as well, there are many reasons to not bother with the standard File explorer, i just use Resco File Exp as a few others have mentioned.
Atleast now i can select edit/invert selection etc to highlight certain files.
The only way to do this with File Explorer is to use a SIP with proper selection tools. The original WinMo keyboard had a Ctrl key but thats gone now.
I use TouchPal which has a 'Select' button in the toolbox, after which the direction arrows perform the multiple selections.
Hi,
since i updated my DHD with the OTA update, i can see ALL pictures that are in the phone's memory in the picture galery app..
is there a way to told the picture galery to ignore some folders..
MOD edit: Moved to General
Cheers,
M_T_M
Yes. Add empty file called
.nomedia
In the folder
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
or when you load up gallery, click menu and show/hide folders then untick what folders you dont want to show
the main idea is to prevent friends/child or whatever to see pics that are not for them (like a sexy girlfriend for example)
the hide menu in galery is too easy ...
there is no password or something like that, so if you share your phone for 1 min to someone, he can found the hidden albums in 10 secs ....
I'll try the nomedia hopping that it will do the work...
One last question: how to remove the thumbnails without deleting the content ?
the .nomedia trick worked ...
but i needed to put this file on the parent directory, not the directory containing the pictures

hmm when i start gallery and klick on menu nothing happens, no menu is comming up. i wanna exclude some folders. how can i change that, is there any other way?
is the menu not coming up because its still loading/refreshing?
Update: wow its tricky to get this menu opened up...
i tried to put the .nomedia file in the parent folder, but it doesnt work....
i also cleared the cache of gallery, and after startup the same again.
i would like to uncheck some "system - pictures" wich i dont need in gallery
Question:
is there a programme, which actually shows the folder structure for pictures.
like my pictures -> test -> test1
-> test2
because gallery shows only
my pictures
test
test1
test2
I installed and application called hide it pro today (free) from market, it lets you hide anything with a password. Installs as 'audio manager' and there is a hidden button in that to get to the login screen. Pretty nice!

When I load gallery, if I hit menu nothing happen.
Then I select 'All photos' then hit menu and only 3 buttons appears: 'slide show', 'Define as', 'Select reader'.
So nothing about 'show/hide folders'. Where do you find that ??
Thanks
Other way to hide folder from gallery is to name it ".anyfoldername"
The dot in the beginning is the key. My windows computer would not let me create such folder, so I made one in my phone and then moved files to it from a computer.
By the way, in Gallery all photos are displayed 'flat' whatever the folder hierachy is.
In other word, I cannot browse photos by folder they belong to.
It was possible in my previous Magic with many different ROMs (stock 1.6, Cyanogen,...).
This is quite anoying because I have +400 photos stored in +10 folders.
Scroll down and there you should be able to see the folders...

I had to delete application data through Application settings for it to rescan.
It found my folders

Yeah, this sucks, on winmo htc sense this was possible... unfortunately HTC Sense for android in some aspects has taken a step back...

yeah pretty useless too
the files are accessible uncrypted in a .myVault folder ^^
i first througth the password was crypting the files (because it took some time)
but no the files are freely visible
ok at least there are not in the galery
So when I was going to add a picture to my Snapchat I noticed I had tons of pictures from Facebooks stickers. So when I went to go look for them I found them in the download folder and in images, and used the select all tool ( I had over 1000 sticker pictures + Stuff from ads on games) and all I can do is copy the items. I want to delete them all all at once, not have to go into the folder separately and delete the image from the folder. Is the an app I can do this with? Because this is super annoying and I dont want to spend hours trying to delete them individually
After selecting all files don't you have a trashcan icon at the top? Second icon on the right side, left to the three dots that open the dropdown menu with the other options like copy.
Edit:
I missread. You want to delete multiple folders not multiple files in a folder. Doesn't work for me either. Maybe use one of the file explorer like apps from the playstore. I'm sure most of them have no problem with deleting multiple folders.
