I have a HTC S710, and does anyone know how I can use IPsec VPN? I've got Bluefire VPN wich supports it, but when I try to connect it says
"The Connection Settings do not allow a VPN connection to be established. The device may be configured to use the same network for both The Internet and Work. Please verify the Connection Settings and try again (-71)"
Ive looked all over for this sort of settings, but havent been able to find any. Anyone to help?
under wm6, have a look at settings - connections - connections - advanced - select networks
the settings for internet and private network must be different
for internet, i have "my isp", for private network "my work network"
with these settings, bluefire works in my university vpn network
under wm6, have a look at settings - connections - connections.
Here's just an empty list, I can't seem to find the "advanced" option.
I have deleted my GPRS account, because it kept onlining, and I want to use VPN over Wifi.
In advance, thanks
settings - connections - connections
there should be two headlines, "my ISP" and "my work connection", these are built in
"advanced" is a tab at the bottom of the page

I need to set up proxy for wi-fi connection, however in WM5 I can find proxy setup only for modem connection... how and where could I set up a proxy?
Do you mean an internet proxy? If so, then go to
Settings > Connections (tab) > Connections > Advanced (tab) > Select Networks
Choose your connection method here - ie, Orange World or other
Then click "Edit.." and select the "Proxy Settings" tab.
From here you can specify that the connection will be used to connect to the internet (via any method - be it GPRS, LAN or Wireless) and you can check the box and specify a Proxy Server IP address.
When I connect to my work machine via active sync, it automagically picks up my work's proxy server IP and changes this configuration for me.
I hope I didnt miss the point here.. Good luck

Yes, it picks it up for me as well (via USB activesync). However the following happens when I go wireless - all application which don't require proxy (mail, skype) work, except for HTTP. Of course I listed all protocols in the advanced proxy configuration...
Well I dont have that problem im afraid terramax - when I move onto the wireless I always ensure the 'use proxy' checkbox is unticked before i turn on the wireless.
Also if im having trouble starting IE first seems to help (altho this seems like bull****!) :?
I have similar issue to terramax. Skype works, internal sites with "proxy exclusion" are fine but IE mobile on my Treo Pro can't negotiate the proxy server at work (authentication dialogue doesn't even pop up). What really does my head in though is we have some HP handhelds running WM6 and they handle the proxy authentication fine.

Hi,
I have a o2 xda neo.
I've been trying to get internet working at both home and work through different settings. After lots of problems, i've done a hard reset and will try again.
Perhaps you can help with the correct settings, as I do not understand this whole Activesync 'the internet' / 'My Work' etc network settings.
I have my neo sync'd to my work pc. Fine. And when I use 'work' on the connection setting, then the internet is also fine on my PPC. HOWEVER, it updates my 'my work' settings on the PPC with my works proxy server ip etc.
OK, i understand that makes it work ok....
But my problem comes next. I want to set my o2 GPRS settings up. And they should go under 'my work' and I need to enter the o2 server IP in there.
But I can't because my work settings are there!!?!?!
So, I have to chose, do i want to use only work settings or only gprs settings...
How can I have both?
- when at work, it has internet fine.
- and on the move, i can use GPRS fine?
A million thanks in advance!

maybe i'm to simple, but i only use Internet settings and don't use @work @all.
And it works fine everywhere, @home, @work, via GPRS and via WiFi. Have you tried this?
and why would you put your gprs setting under Work?
Extremely sorry no one has replied to your post with a solution yet, I maybe too late but I only joined this forum yesterday.
You want multiple Network settings with independent Proxy settings and IP, DNS etc right??
Go to Start>Settings>Connections>Tap connections >go to the "Advanced" Tab. Tap "Select Networks" Here you are given 2 Choices of Network settings you can use. Work Network and Internet (or ISP). You have your work settings saved on Work network so do not edit that. choose the other one and edit it to enter all your GPRS settings. and save as your gprs connection. Now if you want to add a third independent setting, from the select Networks tab, click on new and you can create a third Set of connection settings (for your home maybe). Your PPC can handle 2 simultaneous connection settings perfectly, ex. 1 for Pass through and 2 for GPRS. But each time you want to connect to a third or different setting, you just go to the "Advanced Tab"> select Networks> tap the pull down options menu and select the other connection set that you would like to use et voila it is that simple.
Hi guys,
Well I have searched everywhere and found nothing.
Well my college has wifi but it uses a proxy to access the internet.
So in Internet explorer on my desktop/laptop there is a direct option in the lan settings to specify a proxy ip and prot.
how do i do the same for my xda2s running 5.0.
thanks
Hello,
The way to go about doing this is to set up a proxy server under Start> Setings>Connections>Connections. Under My Work Network, select "Set Up My Proxy Server" and check the boxes for "This Network connects to the internet" and "this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet". Click on the "advanced" setting which should open up a window where you can choose your proxy port and enter your port address & numbers. Note when using pass through or any other connection that doesnt use the same proxy, make sure you turn your proxy port settings off (by unchecking the "this NW uses proxy port" check box). I hope this solves your problem.
Alternatively, a solution I've found which works is to use Opera Mobile - you can specify an HTTP and/or HTTPS proxy to use (in the form of hostname/iport) and then when you connect it just asks you to authenticate against it and boom: you're good to go.
No more faffing about with My Work Network, half the time I could never get connectivity with my Alpine when I did it like that (which meant it tried to dial up to the GPRS)... However if I'm not using Opera for one reason or another, I will use the My Work Network method with my TyTn. Both ways work just as well, I just think the Opera solution is neater because you can just set all your wifi networks as 'connects to the Internet'.

Hello,
I have HTC Touch, and I'm trying to connect to wifi with ISA proxy.
First, I connected to home wifi (no proxy) and accessed internet without problem.
At work we have Radius etc. but I also connected, and I can surf to pages inside company (no need for proxy), but I can't get out to internet.
Any suggestion would be great!
tnx
small update: looks like I was surfing at work through usb cable, not wifi. But now I can't even connect to wifi at work, which I could before. Funny things going on, I'll reset.
Update2:
Newest status is: wifi connected, can surf internal sites, but can't go outside company network.
I suspect that IE is not going through the proxy at all. Which implicates that I don't know how to setup IE to use proxy on WM6???
If you edit "My Work Settings" thru Settings -> Connections -> Connections you can edit the proxy settings there. Then you say "connect to internet" thru "My Work Settings". I may be wrong, but I think you need to reset the pda as well...
OK, here are my settings:
under settings-connections-connections, advanced - select networks:
"Programs that automatically connect to Internet should connect using:" My Work Network.
When I click Edit, under Modem, there are no entries.
Under Proxy settings, "This network connects to internet" and "this network uses a proxy.." are both checked.
"Proxy server" field is disabled.
Under Advanced:
Socks line has serverort next to it. Others are empty. Server and port are good.
I click ok on all and go to IE. Type www.google.com, it says "Locating.." and that's all. Internal web sites are opening ok.
I tried to turn it off, and back on.
Tried google, not working.
I checked all settings once again and tried then, still nothing.
This is a common problem and I have not found a solution for it myself yet.
The proxy settings are lost when you apply them, and the SOCKS server settings behaves weirdly.
Anyone knows what can be done?
i want to know how to do this too... my school is also using the same system.
still no update
no update ??
configfree from Toshiba
Dear,
I had an old E800 from toshiba where configfree is installed. With this program I can configure proxy for wifi in 10 sec and it works.
does someone know where we can find this program for other PDA. I want to try it on my Cruise.

I'm also having the same issue. Can anyone help, please?
From my experiences I can tell you: THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE HTC AND HTTP PROXY FOR WIFI RUN. Neither with WM6.0 nor 6.1 nor a special brand nor the original firmware.
I have tried to inform HTC support, but I'm extremely pessemistic, that at least one will care. It seems to be not a WM related problem, because my WM6 ASUS doesn't have that issue.
There is a work around for browsers only: Don't use Pocket IE, use Minimo, because this browswer has it's own proxy setup. But it doesn't help you much, if you want to use other applications.
EDIT: Just to inform you, what happens, if you upgrade to WM6.1: The proxy settings are kept (HURRRAY) ---- but ignored completely It's _that_ brain damaged...

I can confirm the same "symptoms": proxy is totally being ignored on WM6.1. However, they're kept when you close the settings.

Proxy over WiFi works for me and has done with my previous HTC Wizard and now with my Kaiser. I have checked with a sniffer that I am definitely using the proxy over port 8080 (MS ISA 2006).
I have explained this before but this is how my device is setup.
ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre - Connection Settings set to 'This computer is connected to: Work Network' - Setting this to Automatic or The Internet deletes any Proxy Settings on the device when you connect it.
WiFi. My home WiFi SSID Network set to 'Connects to: Work'
Connections. 'Tasks' tab - Two settings 'My ISP' & 'My Work Network'. Advanced Tab, Select Networks. Top settings 'Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: My ISP'. Bottom settings 'Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My Work Network'. Under 'My ISP' I have the GPRS details for my carrier (Vodafone). Under 'My Work Network' I have a proxy defined with the Advanced settings configured - HTTP set to my proxy with the port 8080 and Socks set to my proxy with port 1080.
That's it and has worked for me since Windows Mobile 6.0 appeared for the Wizard. I used the same settings when I first got my Kaiser with WM 6.0 and now with WM 6.1 (more or less stock 5.2.19212) and it has worked every time.

WiFi and Proxy
There are too many wifi connection in the present. But the best thing is to choose the right one. Can you tell me to choose the right one with no Proxy service. Thanks
I'm sorry to bring this up again folks, I have read and searched forum for similar threads but am still confused.
I find the WM6.1 network connections interface very confusing. Can anyone tell me step by step how to setup vodafone?
Should it be setup as part of "My Work Network" or as its own "Vodafone Live" ?
When I set it up, I still want my phone to use my WiFi connection at home as default, and only use vodafone live if I specifically tell it to. Is this possible ?
Under Netwotk Management
Surely "programs that auto connect to the internet" and "programs that auto connect to a private network" would be one and the same no ? What about when we use our private network to connect to the internet (via router etc) ??
as I say, I find the entire windows mobile networking system a mess, very confusing and have never gotten vodafone live working properly.
btw, my phone is HTC Touch HD
Many thanks for any desperately needed help
Update...
If I setup the phone to use just "My Work Network" under both "programs that auto connect to the internet" and under "programs that auto connect to a private network"....
and then manually setup vodafone under the "My Work Network" device as follows...(using my local vodafone settings)
1. add new modem connection
2. name it (vodafone etc)
3. select modem to cellular line (gprs, 3g)
4. enter apn "live.vodafone.com"
5. username and password - "vodafone"
6. under "My Work Network" setup proxy as 10.24.59.100
7. under advanced set socks to 10.24.59.100:1080
Then it works. I can disable wifi, enable data connection and browse the internet.
THE PROBLEM here, is that if I go into college, and use my phone over their wifi, the proxy server gets changed thus disabling vodafone all over again.
So, it works if you set it up manually under the "My Work Network" device. But I need it set it up as a seperate device so that the proxy doesnt get messed up. I have tried editing the auto created "vodafone live" device, it just wont work. I tried editing the "my isp" device but that has no proxy setting.
Can anyone please help me make any frickin sense of this. ?
