Internet Explorer isn't exploring - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

IE just keeps failing to load. It says 'Page cannot be located blah blah' on any page I try and load. My data connections are fine, as I can access POP email and I am running a trial of Good Mail 5.0
Any ideas ?
TIA, Davebo.

Try with proxy disabled. By default it is active. Your reference to GoodLink leads me to conclude you are on AT&T.
Remember, your MediaNet connection must have proxy enabled, while your ISP connection probably needs it disabled.
EDIT: Just noticed you are Leeds, so you are probably not on AT&T, but maybe your operator has a similar setup.

Oooer
Thanks for the reply. It turns out it was nothing to do with Good. I did a reinstall of the GSM operator settings (The O2 ROM has an app for that). That cured it, but then I got carried away and installed a new version of Good which b*ggered everything. So then I installed WM6 and that really has *rsed things up.
Now Activesync either won't connect at all or connects for 1 minute then disconnects at will.
I'm nearly at the point of launching it out of the window.
Grr.

Does wifi turn on? (Does the left LED blink like it does when wifi is turned on?)
If not, then it could be related to a cingular cab - did you install any of the cabs from the original cingular extended rom?
left led does blink.
ive also gotten as far as picking up a network.
i have tried everything, i cannot get my wifi to work at all. i dont know whats up.
the settings i needed (which i replicated for the new rom) on the old rom, was this
I would select networks, MY work network, this connects to the internet.
then in the WLAN adapter i had to manual enter my dns servers.
thats pretty much it to get it to work, but now with this rom it wont
Similar or different problem? Not sure. PARTLY SOLVED!

Hi NG,
I updated my O2 XDA mini s (German) from OS 1.3.4.2 to 2.16.9.1. (Radio 02.07.10 included). To be honest, I was never really happy with the quality and reliabilty of the radio. 4 out of 5 times it did work, but once in a while, especially while roaming, it gave me a headache. After unlocking and updating to the new version, WLAN looks to be working quite well, at least for connecting to access points, but it seems that it can't browse external websites. VXutils give back a socket error trying to access external (outside my home network) websites/Email.
Internal (inside my home network) connections work like a charm. Termincal Services client accesses my Win2003 Server no problem and I can also connect to a website hosted on my internal server. (http://servername:port).
Whenever I try to connect to external sources, the browser stops afer not successfully "locating" the respective server. On the other hand locating might not be the problem. Performing a ping to an external site with VXutils properly picks up the right ip address but cannot send/receive ping!
GPRS works as supposed. Can connect to sites with no problem.
May be somebody experiences the same problem or, even better, has a solution.
By the way I used @Work for all possible settings. The work profile is set up for both connection types.
Besides that, the new rom is really nice
EDIT Well after some time playing around, I have solved the problem or better the problem partly disapeared. In 'Settings' 'Network Adapters' I switched from Use server-assigned IP address to manual and entered IP, DNS, Gateway, etc. With these settings it everything worked after a soft-reset. Going back to DHCP and soft-reset, it first worked an now it doesn't anymore. At least there is a work around and I'm trying now some other things. All machines currently work with the DHCP settings correct. I will check and keep you updated if the problems comes from Server settings or from something in the PDA EDIT

Danrw. Concerning the registry settings, after patching the os I did change the registry settings. One already existed with the right value as shown in the 802.11g thread. The other one, DotG, I added.
After that, it did pick up a only G router!
As far as setting DNS manually. It is not enough to just cange the dns setting. You have to enter all the information and even after a soft-reset it takes some time to have the settings picked up... Use vxUTIL 'Info'-Screen to check the current settings. I did test wlan before and after applying packages from the extended rom. No change on reliability or performance on WLAN IMHO.
As far as I understand. Your problem is actually connecting to the router/Access Point. For testing please disable all security on your router and do a soft-reset before trying to access. Also since we have heard of several problems with model 9100 not realizing if an access point is available or not. Also change the SSID of your router and if possible the MAC Address of the router.
Don't forget to soft-reset and first try SDIO Adapter inyour pda with auto IP/DNS/etc. settings.
Another thought. Embarassing, but once I messed around with trying to get a new pda online and forgot to disable the mac filter settings in the router, which resulted in being able to see the active router but it didn't let me connect. After those two days I was missing a lot of hair.
Good luck

I did but only the minimum. I trimmed down their install to the basics. I narrowed it down to one of two CABs. Either the gprsstall or EnableEONS. I didn't install either of those and I"m now back up and running. Of course, I still can't get it to prefer WiFi to EDGE.
I had experienced the same problem with home wifi network after upgrading my rom. I saw in my laptop that the key was set to 2. I went to the network cards, clicked on my wifi network, and under Network Key swithed the value from 1 to 2. I can now connect to my wifi network at home.

I do not know if my solution will work for you because I upgraded my rom to 2.16 but lets give it a try. I use d-link DI-524 wifi router. Start menu > Settings > Connections (tab) > Network Cards [I must admit earlier today when I was trying to connect my k-jam to the wifi, I did get as far as it asking me for my authentication code and afterwards it timed-out] --> select your wifi network [at this moment as I'm trying this out my wifi on my k-jam is off] --> Network Key (tab) > it was the key index that I had to change from 1 to 2. Before doing this though, go to your router's wireless configuration page through your webbrowser and make sure the keyX (it looks for d-link this can be from key1 to key4 or at least on mine) and make sure the key index you select on your mda is the same number that is used on your router for code authentication.
Also I noticed after resetting my k-jam that I could get connected to my wifi but I could not surf, in wifi setting on my k-jam I had to hit renew ip and then I was able to surf.
I hope this works for you. Good luck and many late nights.
no luck with this for me
even tried removing wep all together. tried multiple routers.
i can detect the ssid's, but i cant connect to them. times out on the connect.
Mine worked no problem...you may already have had this suggestion but here was my process.
Unlocked with lokwiz
Upgraded
Reset before extended ROM apps installed
Installed total commander
deleted extended ROM
Upgraded again
i re-installed the CINGULAR ROM and WiFi works like a charm
......any clues?
Here's what I ended up finding out for mine. First, at the time I wrote this, I was running the 2.16 ROM. Now I'm running the 2.17, but the fix is the same with either.
Don't load the cingular add-ins GPRSSTALL or EONS. I narrowed it down to those two that were causing the issue. So, the only ones I install now are CingularMMSAccount, EdgeIcon, TimeStyle, WiFiRate4, and SmartDialingEnable. Thats it, and its all I've seen to be necessary from Cingular's little bundle 'o fun. Everything else I haven't found interferes with my ability to use the phone at all.
Hope this helps...

Since a week ago (more or less) I can connect via WiFi to my home and work netwoks. Its normal, even I can use Skype, but I can't send/receive e-mails neither navigate with internet explorer.
Days ago there wasn't any problem. I can view web pages and receive e-mails, but now I can´t.

In order to make suggestions can you tell us:
1. Does the icon show you are connected to the wifi network or not.
2. Have you tried a soft reset
3. Is Skype still working - I wasn't sure from what you said
4. Did you alter any connection settings - proxy etc.
5. Did you install any new applications

Mmmm....
Curious. Hitchhiker is certainly related to this general area, but I'm a great fan of it. In fact whenever I get times similar to yours where you appear connected but cannot navigate I usually run hitchhiker to automatically iron out the problem. Very seldom does hitchiker fail to work.
Possible thing to try
1. Reinstall hitchhiker and see if it can re-establish full connection.
Forgot to ask:
what error you get when attempting to navigate.
can you still navigate with GPRS/UMTS

Have you tried ensuring GPRS is off and stays off when you have the Wifi switched on. That connection lost sounds very familiar as if it's actually using the GPRS rather than the wifi connection.

OK we can rule that out then
Based on info you have given and assuming Hitchiker fails to remedy the problem I think I would resetablish the WiFi connection settings. Disconnect wifi then - Start> Settings> Connections> Wireless Lan> "Enroll" tab "menu" key "network cards" then press and hold the relevant network name and choose remove settings option.
Follow menus above through again to add network back in or turn on wifi and wait for it to tell you network found and ask you for the key.
Mike
Thank you Mike, you put me on the right way
I don't know why but an extrahge reason auto-setup a wrong configuration onto my proxy settings (I donn't use any proxy server to connect!!! )
Now all it's OK. I have internet connection again.

internet explorer / connections woes

yes, i have opera too, but this is sitll pissing me off.
i've been messing around with my vario II to have it be online both through my corporate firewall/proxy as well as on a normal internet connection.
something messed up. now, internet explroer no longer connects. i've tried numerous methods:
1) wireless (802.11) - says page not found, even though every other app works
2) 3G - says "locating" for like 30 seconds then says page not found
3) bluetooth/activesync - immediately shows a page under construction website, even if i'm opening google. this is for every site.
any tips?
something seems to have disappeared from my "connections" settings - now i no longer see the work connection / option to configure proxy. all i see now is my default "home" connection which only give the options "add a new modem connection" and "manage existing connections".
everythign else works fine.
any ideas?

I had exactly the same problems -- for weeks (although not with opera).
Called half an hour ago and got HSDPA enabled on my line.
Now works like never before!
I'm having the same issue, except that PIE WILL work with wifi, but not EDGE/GPRS.
Every other app works fine (Opera, Google Maps, etc) via wifi and EDGE/GPRS.
this may be unrelated, but when I had activesync on the pc set to 'automatic' instead of 'work' it would push proxy settings to my phone. verify this has happened by putting *.* for exceptions. if you can surf then, you have a proxy set up due to activesync from your work pc. some of my connections didn't show the proxy, but in the registry it was there. setting work pc to passthrough=work rather than automatic stopped this from happening again.
hope this was clear enough.
wes
Thanks for the suggestion, but its still a no go.
It just boggles the mind that PIE doesn't work through GPRS/EDGE/3G but every other internet enabled app does... and that PIE will work through WiFi makes it even more strange.. Usually its the other way around for most people (problems with WiFi, not their mobile data connection).
I've even run the \windows\welcome.exe a few times, as this seems to have fixed it for some others.
I've also tried switching to wap.cingular (MEdia net), hard coding openDNS servers as well as the old standbys (4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2).

not again

Ok, I just moved from San Diego back to Mobile, AL and just before I left, my gprs web stopped working. I could still go to tzones but no internet or modem use.
Now, as soon as I moved to AL it all worked again (yay) but....
just yesterday it all came crashing down again; same problem
I can "connect" to the gprs/edge and it will access tzones but when i try to load a PIE page or go to google maps, weatherbar, etc, it will not connect. IE will give the error
"page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the conection and then try again."
the wireless modem part also no longer works. pc says "connected" but I get no data rx
did tmo fry our free internet finally? if so, how did it follow me? lol
PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS ONE
just let me know if all my efforts will be and are fruitless
ive already hard reset my phone of course to no avail.... anyone?

Mine used to play up on O2 this way - same message as you are getting, until I discovered a better port number. I also have found that maybe every 5 months something goes wrong and it will say "connecting" forever. This can only be sorted by deleting the network card and re-entering the settings. You would think, since they are identical to the last set I put in, that it still would not work - not so, just putting them all back in sorts it.
Another problem I faced initially was that the internet published settings for O2 were not correct on 90% of sites. I had to contact a fellow O2 user to get him to go through his settings which were different from the published ones.
Of course this may have absolutely nothing to do with your problem.

T-Mobile connection issues

Got my HD2 now on a T mobile contract, but i have issues with it connecting to some services. It wont update Twitter, or check my gmail, but the internet works ok. It just says i cannot connect with the current connection settings.

strange I never had a problem with YouTube.
T-mobile put that stupid adult lock on their phones nowadays. You have to ask them to remove it or do it through their website if you want to view pron or you-tube.
Maybe something, maybe nothing but T-Mobile in north Suffolk / south Norfolk has been down most of the day.
t-mobile is down. there are doin some major works on the mast. summat to do with the strong winds
Mine wont do anything to do with using the network to connect to the internet, including general browsing, it just says:
Cannot Connect
Dialed:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again.

Thanks so much, just found this - unblocked Twitter tab, and hopefully will iron out some msn connection issues. This tip should be in one of the main Leo tips threads (if it's not already).
It's true you have to call t-mobile to remove "adult block" so you can use youtube, or you can log in online and do it.
