I was hoping this would go away in WM6 but it's still there.
It seems kinda ramdom, but I suspect it is related to removing/reinserting the microSD card, or updating it via drag& drop (rather than Sync with Media Player).
What happens is Windows Media Player stops seeing the Storage Card.
I can still play files by "running" them from File Explorer. If I choose Update Library in WMP, it scans the device and tries to add them, but times out.
The only way to get things working again, is to delete the MSMETADATA directory from the storage card and then tell WMP to rescan again.
I think this is a fairly common problem, but does anyone know exactly what causes it? Or a better fix than having to delete/recreate the metadata each time?
I'm suspecting it is because I am not using WMP on the PC to sync music. Syncing with mobile devices doesn't seem to be its strength though - I have my device in there twice and can't remove either instance. Also ActiveSync always says "Setup must be complete" for the WMP item, even though I have set it up several times.

Weird, This is the 2nd device I've had and both do this...
I sync music to the card, Media Centre picks the music up, but then after a reset it all goes wrong:
The next time I start MC, it doesn't even see the storage card (in the Library). Updating the library, it finds the tracks but seems to hang while adding them. Meanwhile, the free storage on the card goes down... and down... and down until there's none left. MC then says "can't add the tracks" and gives up.
Anyone else having this trouble, or am I incredibly unlucky?!

I have the same issue on my TyTN...
really frustrating but I found a workaround: browse the storage and delete the hidden folder MSMETADATA, then try to update media player library.
You won't find such folder using the file explorer provided with WM5: you must use an enhanced file explorer such as Resco one in order to view hidden and system files.
I have the same problem but I will try deleting that files to see if it helps.

I also have the same problem. It is very annoying...
However, if you go to the Library screen, then Menu > Open File and navigate to storage card > playlists, you can open any of your playlists...
Not ideal but it works.
I removed that file and it works fine now, jusy hope is stays the same for a few days.
Yeah, I've had the same problem too and I've tried all the various things suggested with limited success. The only surefire solution I've encountered is to copy all my important folders from the storage card to my desktop - minus any of the media files/folders and the msmeta data files, using resco, reformat the storage card, replace all the files from the desktop, resync and then synchronise he music through wm player again.

At the beginning I was syncing using WMP11 with XP and VISTA (same player)
NOW I AVOID to open WMP11 when my TYTN is connected. I had my card scrambled 2 times and not recognized, I HAD TO HARD RESET THE PHONE TO HAVE IT RECOGNIZED AGAIN!
I used flash format to check the card and everything seems ok. So I've deleted all the MUSIC and VIDEO folders, including DRM folders, and now it's working again.
Now I use a simple copy and paste, a playlist editor on the phone....
May be is a FAT problem (My card cames in FAT 16 format), may be is a WMP11, may be is a VISTA problem...

Yes, I have this problem and it's driving me nuts. Update library always stops with a "can not add tracks to library because there is not enough memory" type message, and trying to fill a 1 GB memory card by syncing with WMP11 stops after a while with a completely hung phone.
Only way to fill the card is to copy tracks in batches, but then of course the update library fails.
I'm going to try a different music player on the TyTN to see if that works better.

You guys probably already know about this but:
This is a standard WM5 problem. To resolve problem with library:
Find MSmetadata folder on storage card - DELETE it (need file explorer set to show all files - hidden files)
Should find it works better now. Reconstruct library.

Thanks. That appears to work reasonably well.
I also found that unchecking the "use advanced networking" box in Settings>USB to PC appears to have cured the freezing of the sync process.

Got a Ty Tn on Sat 11/11/06.
I can see the music on the storage card and can play it thru File Explorer, but it wont show up in the Media Player (MP) library. Library shows only the device not the storage card. Have tried to search the wiki and the forums; did not find anything. Synch gives a message "media player cannot play file" and in the desktop it sees nothing on the storage card. Did upgrade from 8125. Can someone point me to a solution? Thnx
Other stuff based on comments I have seen in the forum and wiki: My TyTN (Cingular's network) works beautifully otherwise. S/N: 636xxx. 3G clocks 900Kbps; GPRS 200Kbps; no screen alignment problems; stylus just-right snug. Battery life with BT, WiFi, 3G, HEAVY phone usage and browsing is great. In the past (over the last about 5 years, I have had to carry a spare battery with all my phones/devices to go through the day; my device is my office). On th TyTN I dont think I will need a spare battery. No synch problems (other than the media player). I have loaded a few apps on the Storage card - all work fine. I carry the TyTn in a pouch not in the pocket as some do. Does not overheat.
Any help on the media player will be appreciated.
It is a bug that needs fixing.
A workaround is:
-set File Explorer to "Show All Files"
-delete the folder "MSMETADATA" on the storage card
-In Windows Media click "Update Library"
Your music should be back.
I have to do this every few days.

Did what you suggested; went a step further. Deleted file from device, updated library on device - both as you suggested. THEN deleted music from desktop library (but NOT FROM COMPUTER). Re synched. Problem gone.
Correction
Recreate library before synching.
I was advised by HTC Europe that the problem would be fixed with the first software upgrade. Well we have an upgrade released in South Africa and I have done that, but the problem is still present, although slightly improved.
I now only have to reload the library file about once a week.

5 days later, I have not had a recurrence (after the fix above). Added more stuff to storage card, more programs etc....
I can access the storage card through the File Explorer, but Windows Media Player stopped showing the storage card option in the library page. Weird, and annoying. I can only access my storage card song files through File Explorer. Can anyone help?

Delete the file called METADATA
Open media player
Update the library as you usually do and the storage card should re-appear

I discovered that if I stop my music (not pause) and close (exit so that it is no longer running in the background) wmp before starting the camera app that I don't lose my library on the storage card anymore.
if you poke around in the registry, a few things in the camera app are interesting here. there is a coexistwithwmp item, which is set to false. this causes the camera app to kill wmp. there are also some timers to shut down wmp. I think these are the culprit but I haven't had time to prove it. maybe someone on the forum has fewer kids....

I tried this on my 8125, but it didn't work. Is an 8125 differant than a 8585 for this problem?
To be clear, when you say "open media player" then "update the library...", you mean the PC based Windows Media Player 11, right?
Any insight on this issue would be most appreciated, as always.

I have a new TMO TP2, and am somewhat puzzled as to why the TF3D music player can't find the music that I've synced onto my storage card. Windows Media player sees the music just fine, but the TF3D one can't (it only sees the songs in the main storage).
The music is in a "Music" folder on the storage card, as it is in the main storage.
Any ideas?
Tried restarting TF3D or soft reset? After modifying some files by connecting the device to my PC as storage drive, the music player wouldn't recognize my files stored on storage card.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I had done both a restart of TF3D and a soft reset with no success.
Not sure how many songs you added to your storage card, but mine (~120 files) took several minutes before they showed up on the TP2. I believe I had gone to Library -> "All Songs tab" and then let it refresh/populate.

I did upload a significant number of songs (100+), but had my phone on for a long time (while I continue to tweak it!) and nothing has changed. I don't see any options under "Library" or anywhere else to refresh. Windows Media Player has such a feature (which I tried), but the TF3D player doesn't see anything.
I also tried to manually copy over a artist folder from the storage card onto the main storage (alongside the songs already there). Again, the TF3D doesn't recognize it.

There isn't a refresh button as such, but I recall bouncing between the different sub-tabs after clicking "Library" and it said something to the effect of "searching".
How about try moving everything from the phone's "MUSIC" folder to the storage card "MUSIC" folder (i.e. phone's "MUSIC" folder completely empty) and let it 're-search' on its own...
i have the same issues! i recently purchased an formated (FAT32) 8GB sd card, and synced my music from windows media player 11 through active sync. the music is on the card fine and i can play the music through windows media player, BUT not on the touch flo music player.
why is this happening?
i have a the files in a "MUSIC" file on the storage card same as the person who posted this issue.
When I first added my music to the Storage Card nothing showed up in TF3D either. I then deleted the music in the Music folder on my main storage and when I when to touch flo Audio tab it said searching. I opened up library and when I clicked all songs they started to appear. You might try that.

Soft Reset . . . . New AudioManager_Eng.vol will be created.
Had the same exact problem.
Although in the beginning, it did work. Would find all music on storage card and device, in numerous folders.
Then after deleting some of the music and maybe a file or 2 in one of the music folders, and doing lots of copy/pasting of music from pc to card and card to device,then changing folder names, etc, the TF3D music player could not find music anymore. Tried everything could think of, no luck. Can not figure out exactly what caused this.
Took out storage card, did a 'Clear Storage' from the settings/system tab and then all was fine again. Had to reinstall my programs, no problem. Now TF3D music player finds all music on card and device once again.
