finchsync is written in java will let you sync with Mozilla Apps under any OS.

You can have a look at SynCE + Evolution... Not sure if it supported wm5 now. With linux, I only do file sharing (be it usb or wifi+samba

finchsync
works perfect thanks for the tip

gaznight, i happen to have the same problem. Well, kind of I'm able to sync to my wizard, but not to Evolution. I also messed up my settings for the 'Externe NDIS-host' (Yeah, i'm dutch too ) network card. Could you be so kind to post your settings? My guess was IP: 169.254.2.1, 255.255.255.0 and no default gw. Could you verify? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

funambol
I'm now using using funambol as my main PIM repository, it works great!!
Delete your active sync profile,
Install the funambol plugin on all programs / devices you want to sync with.
Programs sync directly with the funambol server
devices get internet though activesync or wifi and sync with a funambol server

Funambol Open Source Push Mail

Has anyone ever tried this out?
I am not sure if you need to install the server application on you workstation or on the actual exhange server. Would like to give it a go, as my company I work for is so slow in implementing any kind of mobile mail acess (we will have WM10 with 8mp camera pocket pcs before my work has mobile mail access).
you could try intellisync Wireless email http://www.intellisync.com/pages/Products/Express/
I have a similar problem with my company being a bit slow on the uptake...this works perectly...really pleased.
You install an application on your desktop and on the device (all very simple) The desktop app syncs your mail etc to a webserver, then the app on the universal connects to the webserver and sync it down onto the device. Very slick. Bear in mind that you have to leave your desktop logged in to your corporate network all the time, which isn't a problem for me as locking the pc doesn't affect the functionality.
I have seen that, but I don't want to use 6 different programs and places to sync. My dad has Intellisync Mobile Suite 6.2 on his Jam and works like a charm, but I can't get my hands on the original installation package.
I can access my work's e-mail via the web through webmail, but I don't know the settings like port numbers etc to get my Jam configured to connect. Is there anyway one can find out these settings without asking IT, as they are still testing it and won't give it to me at this stage.
Surely if you can connect to webmail (exchange), then my Jam should be also be able to connect. Imate Mail also uses webmail and it works on the JAM.

Not sure what you mean...there's one app on the pc and one on the ppc.

I was just being sarcastic.
I know on 2 apps, but you still have a "middleman" where you data needs to be sync from the pc, then from there to the ppc, back to the web server and again back to the pc. I want to go straight to the exhange server, which I should be able to do if I can get my work's webmail settings.
I see! Have you looked at xmail from o2...similar but your ppc connects directly to the agenct on the desktop...
it does
it works so far, but it is a pain to configure.
i hooked it up to my mail server.
with the admin tool you need to (under win or x) configure a user, device and principal and there you go.
what the manual does not tell you: you have to replace PipelineManager with PipelineManagerGeneric in ds-server/config/Funambol.xml to get it to work with your IMEI, or configure your device with IMEI syncml ..
It smashes my funny german umlauts, though. There is a patch (already included in Funambol) that should configure my internal storage to use utf-8, still its using internal iso-8859-15 (what ever that is for..)
I didn't get it to Unicode until now..
I have not tried to connect it to my mail server.. and i have not tried push email yet..
Stefan
I managed to get exhange activesync to work. But since last night I can't get internet access via GPRS and this morning I can't get VPN access. No nothing wants to work anymore.
Looks like I have to reload my ppc and start from scratch, I have checked all my settings and see nothing wrong.
So I reloaded my Jam this weekend, connected to the work's mail server via GPRS and got my stuff.
Came to work this morning, changed nothing on the pc's settings, plugged in my Jam via USB, pressed sync and it connect without giving me any funny error messages that I got on Friday.
It is weird that it works now with the same setttings and now juts because I reloaded my Jam, it works. :x

regards chief
I am not shure, if this will work throught USB cable (rdndis network card) - I guess no, but throught bluetooth, or infra should... but which program use, I really dont know. this is how it look like in windows, try to find these settings on linux...
and try google, very fist item, I found about synch on linux is this - http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Synchronize_PocketPC_and_Evolution
this should be, what you´re looking for - http://multisync.sourceforge.net/news.php
with synce and the opensync plugin, appointments and contacts sync with evolution worked for me on wm5 aku3.0 trinity and ubuntu (usb), but not anymore with aku3.3...
tasks, notes, and files sync support is in progress and 'experimental'
http://www.synce.org/index.php/Windows_Mobile_2005_Support
http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/
anyway this is very complicated (for me) and i use exchange server now.

Do not use WModem, use Internet sharing (found on AKU3.3 & WM6 roms), you just get DHCP from your hermes and it does NAT of your internet connection. You can do it over usb (usbnet) or bluetooth (pand).
Unknown at this stage if synchronisation of contacts with sync-engine-python and opensync-plugin worked. bendt 15:18 Jan 29, 2007

IntelliSync scheduler not working

Hi, I installed Intellisync on my new HTC Touch Dual. If I trigger Sync by pushing the button everything works fine.
My surprise the ReadySync scheduler does not work! The PDA does never trigger an unattended sync.
Tried with device on & off, forced connection, etc. with no success.
Also tried to install different versions of the CABs. The two I have are 6.5 and 7.0.5. The same versions work fine on other WM6 devices of my colleagues (TytN, Glofish).
Any idea?
Found the solution
Hi, nobody answered my question but I think I found the solution which I post in case someone else has the same problem ...
The issue is with Connection Documents. The HTC auto-configured GPRS/Edge/UMTS at first setup based on info from my telecom provider (Swisscom).
For some reason intellisync has a problem in reading these connection documents. What I did is creating a new copy manually with the same GPRS settings and set "Auto Pick" option under Connection Manager.
After that Intellisync started to execute scheduled synchronizations! Strangely the manually created connection is not visible in its connection setup list, but who cares - it works.
Do you know where can I get the Intellisync cabs? The one my company provided me with makes my Niki to reboot after each sync. (Pretty annoying..)
Anybody?
Intellisync
We cannot
For these reasons :
1) Intellisync is copyrighted and we do not use warez
2) The client is linked to the server version. You cannot install ver 8 on your pda to synchronize with a version 7 server for exemple
3) Every intellisync server comes with a full set of intellisync client so your company have the right one for you

Active sync - Exchange: SSL over a non-default port

My ISP blocks all ports below 1024 so I had to setup my SBS2003 Exchange server to run on port 8080 (HTTP) & 4443 (HTTPS), which works perfectly (tested locally & on remote locations).
When I add the correct secure portnumber to the server address (ActiveSync > Tools > Configure Server Source), ActiveSync cannot find our Exchange Server. When I remove the portnumber everything works fine as long as I'm on my local network.
I enter it like this: exchangeserverdomain.com:4443
I have OWA running perfectly by using the same external server address:<port>, and all needed certificates are on my WM6 device (it's the HTC Touch Dual).
Seems like ActiveSync doesn't like portnumbers.
Any tips?

I'm having a similar problem.
Anyone can help?
Many thanks in advance.
Pozi.
If anyone has found a solution for this, I sure would appreciate knowing. As I'm sure you found, older stuff retrieved by Google makes it clear that MS just didn't provide support for ActiveSync on custom ports in previous WM versions, but couldn't they have remedied this oversight by now? Reg key?
Active sync - Exchange: SSL over a non-default port - Solved in WM65 ?
Any idea if there is a workaround for this problem in WM 6.5 ?
thanks,
Koen.
No, I don't know if WM6.5 finally added the ability to specify port number for Activesync server.
We solved this need by using "SSL host headers," which permit multiple IIS sites to use the default SSL port 443 with different host names. Although the IIS (6.0) GUI doesn't provide this capability, it can be done at the command line using adsutil.vbs found in Inetpub\adminscripts. It requires a wildcard SSL certificate, is a little tricky to get right, and results in a misleading error message in the event log every time IIS starts, but it does work reliably.

ISP blocks all well-known ports - server activesync not working
thanks for the information, the configuration of Exchange is indeed not an issue.
Problem is that my ISP blocks all well-known (service) ports like 443,...
I would like to configure server activesync to use a different port (above 1024).
The Activesync interface on Windows mobile does not allow to enter a port number to specify the protocol.
eg. remote.company.com:4433 is automatically changed back to remote.company.com.
Any idea of a reg-key on WM to change the port to use for server activesync ?
If there is a way to do that in WM65, I don't know about it.
What kind of ISP "blocks all well-known ports"?
Good luck.
Not a solution per se but could you use SevenBeta to get your mail pushed? i think it works as long as you can get to the OWA server from the device. probably wouldn't give you contacts but at least you'd get mail while out of the office.
It's not Exchange, but the client...
I dislike it's come to this but it's true, the iPhone handles this over custom ssl ports just fine and I have not come across anything else that does. I do not know why. With the iPhone or iPod touch too I'd guess, you just enter your email address and password. It tries the regular ports and fails, and where you enter the server you enter your port like servername:customsslport and then you have full active synch abilities, synched email, all your subfolders, and the option to synch calendar and address book too.
I recently tried an android phone and looking for a solution, at this very site found out windows phones couldn't do this either... Developers have tried to give google this code correction but they won't accept it for whatever reason. I ended up using a tether to my old iPhone just to get decent ActiveSynch over custom SSL ports until I gave in and took back the Atrix for the newer iPhone, as my old phone was falling apart and was the older slower one. I've tried 2.1 & 2.2 Android phones and when you try to enter the port using serverort syntax you get invalid server format or the save button just gets grayed out until you remove the port. There's a few buggy market apps that sorta work in a limited way. It's possible the Blackberry may allow custom ssl ports on Exchange synch setup too, but I don't know, only that Windows and Android phones had issues with this but it works perfect on the iPhone, so it can't be a limitation of Exchange exactly. I haven't run into any good desktop clients for this, but to access full mobile email, synching even sent items and pushing select custom folders, calendar and contacts the iPhone truly synchs all these fine by entering the same port you use for custom OWA ssl in the Exchange email setup. I wish even desktop Outlook handled custom ssl port synching this well, and I'm not sure how the iPhone does it, as it seems very lightweight.

ActiveSync Guest Mode

So, I have the HTC TyTn II and I sync only with my laptop and use my desktop just to transfer files and maybe install applications. The most annoying this is that ActiveSync wants to create a sync profile with my phone but I always have to click cancel and then it goes to "Guest" mode as noted on the top. I finally dug out the disassembler and nop'd out the call to the Synchronization Wizzard so it enters Guest mode immediately and quietly. Uploaded is A/S version 4.5.0 Build 5096 if anyone has a dedicated computer to upload files/download apps but not necessarily want to keep track of outlook/contacts/notes/etc
Hope someone can find this usefull.
good work!
but, IMHO, dont think this is the best solution
here's MS' official solution:

Nice read. I would suppose the registry modification would be easier for upgrades/updates as well. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for this! I'll try it on my work laptop tomorrow.

I know that trick but it's not working for me.
When I make that key in my registry, I can connect my PDA to my laptop, and it will be in Guest-Mode.
BUT, when I open Active Sync on my device to sync with my works exchange server, I will not work.
However, when I simply cancel Active Sync partnership wizard on my laptop, (so connect in guest-mode) I can sync fine.
I hoped this would have been the solution for us.
We have a lot of users with there smartphone. Coz they use flexible workspaces The sync on several pc's. We don't want to make a new partnership every time. Canceling the partnership makes it possible to sync with Exchange. But with this ActiveSync version this doesnt work. Also the GuestOnly register change syncing with exchange is not possible.
Anyone a solution?
Activesync Didn't Synch contacts
Hi,

Pls advice
Thanks man, a couple of posts above I said I would test if it worked.
I totally forgot to test it. Now I did and it seems to work perfect!!

I think when using this program to force ActiveSync guest mode, it just adds:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"GuestOnly"=dword:00000001
to the registry.
That tweak is not working for me.
I can connect succesfully, but my device won't sync.
Clicking "sync" on my device, just doesn't do anything.
BTW: I sync with an Echange server through LAN network.
