Any Clues..... - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I have a Wallaby that I have just bought, I decided to upgrade it to Windows Mobile so that it would work with Vista, or so I thought.....
I went to the ROM Kitchen and built a WM2003Final with 4.0.12 (or thereabouts) EXE rom.
Connected my wallaby and it failed during the upgrade, no issue, my laptop has an SDCard reader/writer on it so thats cool I can upgrade that way.
Got OSImage and XDATools and an NB1/NBF image (NBF just in case), however, I find that OSImage wont find anything more than 7.58mb on my SDCard (its a 256mb card and has worked as such since the day and hour I got it)
At the moment I have a very nice brick, any tips folks?

Sometimes the internal SD-Card Writer causes Problems. Do you have the possibility to use an external SD-Card Writer?
Stefan

Hi Stefan
I have bought off eBay the following
1 x 64mb SDCard
1 x External Card Reader/Writer
I will use my other laptop which has XP on it to read/write the ROM onto the SDCard.
HOPEFULLY I can debrick it!

How to upgrade ROM?

I am using xda1 and would like to upgrade it to WM2003 (T-mobile CE Rom). However, after I wrote the ROM (NK.nbf) to my 128M SD card through a SD card read/writer by XDA OSImage Tool, I pressed the power button together with soft reset to the bootloading mode and put the SD card into my xda, nothing happen. It does not check the new rom, why?
You have to insert the SD-Card BEFORE you go into Bootloader-Mode.
Greetings, Kaputter
I also tried that, I input the SD card first and pressed to the wallaby bootloader mode (v5.15).
What it showed was just the "white/red/green/blue" page and checked GSM ok. Any other button I have to pressed?
Chris it means that the card has not been written to properly I think, try writing the file again, if you put it in your xda without going into bootloader, it should offer to format the card for you, just say no to the question then try again, if it doesnt offer to format the card it means the file has not been written correctly.
Yeah, you are right.
When I inserted the card (that I think written with the NK.nbf) in the card reader/writer, it didn't ask me to format the card. When I open the explorer for that drive, I saw the nbf file there.
I tried to write the file several times and same results.
Let me explore my case a bit. I used the XDA OSimage tool and for the Source, I chose the file (NK.nbf that contains the T-mobile 4.01.00 downloaded from other thread in this forum) in my computer (WIN2000) and for the destination, I chose the G:NK.nbf.
Any thoughts?
You need to choose destination from the drop down box, it should show your card reader there, then it will work.

That's your problem right there.
You can't just do a windows/dos 'file copy' to write the ROM image to the SD card. You need to use XDAtools or its predecessor XDArit to copy a raw ROM image to the card. The difference is that the card must ONLY have the Rom image and not the FAT, etc information that gets added in when the card is formatted.
This is why under the correct circumstances the XDA gets confused when you first stick the card in - it sees a card that isn't formatted so it offers to format it so the card can be written to.
The bootloader method is IMO the best way to upgrade the ROM. Read up some more on XDAtools and how it can be used to write the ROM image to the SD card.
But I did use the OSImage Tool already. For the source, I choose the NK.nbf file from my PC and I choose the SD card drive for the destination.
But the actual problem seems solved for me. The actual reason for upgrading to WM2003 for me is to view and edit the office attachment whenever received from my e-mail. In the past, I can't read the word or excel document without activesync the files. Now, by using an add-in software, I can.
Thanks very much to everybody.

1GB card detected as 135MB-Problem Solved

I have a problem, the SD card works, the device asked me to format it, but after the format my S100 detects it as a 135 MB card. I don't have a card reader to try formating the card in it , but while in the phone i tried to format it from my PC - no change - after the formating it's still detected as 135MB. How can I fix this?
I've tried Resco Explorer, Softick CardExport II<both format on the device and from my PC in card export mode> and Pocket Mechanic<both in FAT16 and FAT32> - all the three of them detect it as 135 MB card. The card is working great with Universal, and in camera the card is working too, so it's OK and it's realy 1 GB....
the brand is 1GB PQI hi-speed 133

10x, pal, as soon as i 've tried i'll write what's the result.
There's some kind of problem- Swissknife gives me an error when I try to run it under Windows XP SP2. During the install there were no errors. But the program crashes everytime I start it up... I've downloaded again from the developers site reinstlled it and - nothing - it gives me the same error again. everytime I run it I end up witjh the MS error reporting tool...
Problem Solved
IT WORKED. I've just needed to restart my PC. The card is shown now as 955MB card. Great tool. I've even succeded without the card reader-used Softik Card Export II and formated the card via the USB directly on my Qtek

wallaby format sd raw (win xp sp2)

hi, i've a wallaby and while i was updating my rom
the win firewall broke the process :!:
so i've to flash the rom by sd.
but how to put the rom image on the sd wich
is formatted not with fat 16 or 32 but with raw?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wallaby_HT_FlashSD
Stefan
hi, i already watched this topic but my PC doesn't recognize
the wallaby by activesync and neither the xda tools is able to write on the sd card.
yesterday i read the sd only using xdarit but - strange
to say - that same program wasn't able to write on these sd!
May be the sd reader is usb 2.0 or the sd is locked because has already been written???
thanks jB

How I fixed my 2GB miniSD problems

Today I received my 2GB Sandisk miniSD card from eCost (they sell it for real cheap so I thought I get one). I formatted it with XP (using its supplied SD placeholder) to FAT32. After I placed it on the PDA it reported the following crazy results:
2 GB storage
960 MB used
970 MBs free
In other words, my Wizard (running the latest AKU2 QTek ROM from ~March 22 2006) sees the full 2GB, but can only use 1 GB!!!
I then tried to format it with XP using FAT16, but the SAME problem occured.
Thankfully, I downloaded this utility: http://pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=3191 and I did a "repair" (or format) the miniSD via the PocketPC. THIS utility saved the day! It fromatted the miniSD card correctly! And now I can see and use ALL of the card.
Please note that the problem/bug might not be with XP or the PPC. It might be with the actual SD placeholder, or even the flash reader (hardware bugs). The point is, that somewhere along the way something gets screwed during the formatting. So, if you buy a miniSD 2GB and you get such or other problems, download the StorageTools utility linked above to format (or use "repair") the miniSD card directly in the PocketPC instead of using XP and a SD-placeholder/flash-reader.
BTW, I also posted a review of the QTek 9100 yesterday: http://tuxtops.com/node/749
wow! I'm reading your post and thinking I wrote it! I had the EXACT same problem. I tried another utility (that made my miniSD card unrecognizable to my kjam).....a quick format with my pc, and I was back to only about 1gb of usable space....then i stumbled across storage tools. I ran the repair, and it was fixed! ahhhhh 2gb of space....woohoo!
Same problem, diffrent solution...
I also had the same problem, but found another solution, after trying to reformat, both in ppc and pc and cardreader in printer, card was unreadable by all devices. Therefore, as a last resort, I put the card in my digital camera (nikon s2) wich recogniced the card as unformatted and kindly asked if I would like to format it... after that it worked perfectly
help!!
i got the same problem with my 2G sd card..
i formatted with my PC and now it show only 975mb in my card!!!!!!!!!
i had try to use the StorageTools to repair it via my XDA mini s.. but it still show 975MB.... any idea???
After you used StorageTools to repair the miniSD card, you need to do a soft reset for the PocketPC to recognize the rest of the card.
However, I must tell you, the only clear deal is to FORMAT the card WITH StorageTools and NOT to simply just do a repair.
Hey I have this same problem, but the link to the program is no longer any good. Does anyone know what the name of the application was.
Thanks,
Bought new card
OK- Now I do not know what to do. I just went out and bought a new 2GB scan Disk MiniSD card. When I went to install my data on it, I can only get 1GB on the card. I need 2 GB. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. I thought the last card was bad, but I guess not. This happens on 8125 and in Windows. Both see the card as 2 GB but will error out when you try to add more than 1 GB.
Please help.
Thanks,
The name is that one: storagetools...
I had the same problem and using just the evaluation version of the program was good enough to format mi sd and everything it's ok!

what is a better format for MiniSD 1G (prob:read/writes slow)
I have a problem with my miniSD card reading and writing WAY too slow.
I think that may have happened when I formated the card as FAT32 partition instead of FAT. This thread seems like it is a helpfull answer, but which would read and write better? Does anyone know?
Thanx in advance.

TomTom Home can't detect my SD 2G

Hi,
After my upgrade to the new HTC PT ROM I have instaled the new version of TomTom Home. So far so Good...
why can't the program detect my SD 2G card in the Device?
Only internal memory has been detected.
Thanks
WP
Have you tried formatting it. I use a 2gb card and tomtom recognized it with no problem.
Have you tried using the Sd adapted with your card and connecting it to your PC directly?
I have copied a orginal TomTom card to my SD 2G Card with my PC card reader, and, when i conect through activesinc my p3600 (to PC) and run my tomtom Home , The aplication just see the internal memory at Uper right corner.
Formatting it is not a option because i have programs instaled in it.
Thanks again.
WP
1. Copy content of SD card to PC
2. Format SD card with the PANASONIC formatting tool (see other thread)
3. Copy content from PC to SD card
This should solve your problems.
OK
I will test it and report the result.
Thanks
WP
I have exactly the same problem. Please let me know whether the solution of formatting help you.
Works Great for me on HTC p3600 !!!
and Kingston SD 2G
The tomtom Home Now sees the SD Card
Very Thanks man.
...but i still have some problems doing a Full backup with tomtom home software. Always popup an error when reading some files instaled in SD card by other programs
Sory my English is a litle bit rusty.

I did have the same issues when trying to make a backup from TomTom home (I didn't have issues with previous versions of TomTom home). I contacted their support department and this was their response (I did have to translate it):
At this moment it's not possible to create a back-up from a PPC with TomTom Home version 1.5. This will be adapted but at the moment we advice you to make a manual backup.
Then they explained how to make a manual backup which basically required a SD card reader. They didn't specify a date on which it would be fixed.

I think only formating the fat32 to fat will solve your problem.
but first copy all the files inside the 2gb sd to computer and unhide the file which is hidden. all files must be copied. Thats all.
