change Send/receive schedule peak-times - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi All,
I've searched an searched, but can't find a solution for my problem:
I use Exchange at work, so I use Pushmail on WM^(HTC TyTN). But of course I use popmail for my personal email. I have Outlook Mobile set to send/receive every 60 minutes. And everything is working fine. Untill here, there's no problem.
However; more and more people are trying to sell me Viagra, penis-anlargers, Russian brides and all that sort of stuff. Normally I'd just delete them, but I'm receiving emails at night. I know I can switch the retreival to "manually" every night, and then back to "every 60 minutes" every morning, but there must be a better way.
I've seen a program as described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316696, however, this is not a background-app.
Does anyone know of a way to alter the schedule for Outlook Mobile in the same way as ActiveSync? So I can use peak-times and off-peak-times?
Help is much appreciated!

Sometimes, I seriously wonder if these viagra business model does actually works.
Anyway, does switching off your phone (e.g. having it offline, no email, no calls, no SMS) an option? there are a few programs around that can switch your phone on/off on night times.

It would be, but part of my job is the "stand-by" service. In case one of our clients has an emergency...

If you can find some program that stop your data signal, you can consider using this scheduling program http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294575
I think there is a NoData software that stops your phone from having data connection.

My data connection usually auto-connects, so I don't know if that would do the trick... Is there no way of "hacking" the schedule?

Found a workaround
I use PhoneAlarm, and I just set the "night" profile to not do anything on new email...
That'll have to do for now.... But still looking...

I'm all for this too..
It would be nice to have a 3rd party app that can more directly configure your AS/Push schedule. Right now, peak and off-peak is just too limited.
Some days I want full Push, others I want every 60 minutes, night I want on Manual, etc. It'd be nice to do day-by-day with options for full-push, every 15, 30, 60, etc..
True, Phonealarm does this but if all you want is a more robust AS syncing scheduler, it's very overkill.
If someone could do make an "advanced AS scheduler" program, that'd be quite popular I imagine (I'm surprised it hasn't been done already. Bruce at pocketmax.net shows it can be done for most devices...)

Outgoing Call Timer

Hi everyone - been doing a search for a small app that records the outgoing call duration and is resettable but can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know of such an app that will run under WM5?
It's just to make life that bit easier as O2 expect you to call (& pay) their Customer Services to get an update on how many of your free minutes you've used at any point in the month. A bit Dark Ages if you ask me!!!
Any help much appreciated.
the answer seems to lie in the registry....
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/shell/cumulativecalltimers/line_0/
AllCurrent
AllCurrentNumCalls
AllPhoneLifeTime
AllPhoneLineTimeNumCalls
IncomingVoiceCurrent
IncomingVoiceCurrentNumCalls
IncomingVoicePhoneLifeTime
OutgoingDataCurrent
OutgoingDataCurrentNumCalls
Now all we need is some smart person to write us an app that shows us how many minutes of calls we've made (with an option to reset) and how many bytes of GPRS data we've bought....

start -> settings -> system -> device information -> Call duration
Will give you outgoing and incoming call duration.
Have a look at MortScript if you want to make a "tool" to display/reset all the values from the registry.
I thing what you need is Phone Dashboard. Google it, download it and see what info it can give, its great
Regards
This (free) script displays the values from the registry and asks if you want to reset "current" counters.
I can't find the "OutgoingData" counters in my registry. So I can't help you with GPRS counters.
I haven't tested it much, but it seems to work on my K-jam, ROM version 2.16.9.1.
It does mess with the registry so I suggest making a backup first if you want to try it. You also need to install MortScript:
http://www.sto-helit.de/modules/edito/content.php?id=38
search for DKToday. It counts your outgoing minutes and sms and can be set to reset on a specific date. For me, my free minutes are calculated per the 11th of each month, so each 11th of the month my timer will be set to 0. The prog can be found in the forum, just do a search on it.
Show call and data timers (from registry)
a small mod from the great script above...
this one doesn't do a reset (as I didn't want to loose data) but does display the data counts from the registry as well.
don't know if it's specific to the i-mate K-JAM AKU2 ROM and only tested on my unit, but have fun!

I want data counters too!
Are you using the same rom as me (I-Mate 2.16.9.1)? I still can't see the data counters in my registry. And I DO use gprs every day.
Have you installed something else that counts gprs trafffic and updates these registry values??
I would like an SMS counter too. I tried searching for it in the registry but couldnt find any.
Maybe I have to change to something else, like DKtoday or something, but i really do not like today plugins or programs that need to run continously.
very strange.
I've not installed any other third party apps to count GPRS data (was looking for a freebie!) or done anything out of the ordinary that I can remember since upgrading.
Do you have your machine set for ActiveSync / Direct Push? I use that as well as browsing the web. On the subject of trawling the web it appears that the CumulativeCallTimers is one of the reigstry keys which can be controlled by OEMs but as the phones are the same I'm surprised if there is any difference
ROM is 2.16.9.1 WWE (ExtROM 2.16.9.101)
What happens if you add the registry entries (BTW - what happens if you run my version of the script that looks up the entries - I've never used MortScript before so wasn't sure... I love Terry Pratchet as well!)

I tried creating the registry keys, setting the values to 0. Browsed a bit via gprs but the values don't change...
Maybe its the push mail (that i don't use) that creates these values. Can you check if the values increase if you use internet explorer, or if it's only measuring the push-mail-data?
Your code looks good to me, I've just started using MortScript too, because i wanted an easy way to keep track of what i call "real" uptime, average uptime and total number of reboots.
Where does Terry Pratchet fit in?
the values increase with web browsing as well as the DirectPush mail (did a quick Google search and the numbers went up), only on GPRS not on WiFi (so although it says Data it's not getting confused)
The Terry Pratchet reference... Mort was a character (and the title) of one of his Discworld books. Sto-Helit is the name of a city on Discworld (where Mort, who becomes Deaths apprentice ends up as Duke). They are very funny books
I see. Thanks for testing it.
I dont have an exchange server that supports direct push, so i don't know how to get the counters "started" on my device.
Maybe I should read some of his books then - an ebook perhaps
I found a free pushmail exchange thing (mail2web.com) and set up an account, so now I have my push email set up on the phone too. But still no data counters. I've given up
how have you set this up? read the page, but it is not clear to me how it enables push email...
I didn't think the maIl2web solution was the new DirecgtPush email (as supported by the AKU2 ROM upgrade), more the 'old-school' SMS notification service.
The best (ie has a free 14 day trial and is good value) one I've found for small users without their own Exchange solution is 4SmartPhones (which is who I'm using - I push my normal mail to their hosted Exchange and it appears in my PC Outlook and on my phone by magic THey also have step-by-step instructions to make setup really easy

You are probably right, I will try 4smartphones as soon as their webpages start working...
"Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."
weird, they've been pretty well behaved in IE.
Try this link or just type in www-dot-4smartphones-dot-net and see if that behaves!

Don't work. Not in IE, not in PIE, not in Firefox...
it's weird... it seems on the first visit to the link it writes a cookie and then redirects to the wrong place, second visit works (at least that's what seemed to happen when I just tried in PIE)
the raw link (to the homepage) should work fine as that's not doing any redirects that I can see
I found something called http://www.4smartphone.no and set up a test account there. Could this be the norwegianified version of "your" 4smartphone service?
They say its "Direct Push", and i can start/stop it using the "direct push" button in the comm manager. Does this mean it's "real" direct push?
This did not do anthing to my data counters though. still at 0...
So there must be something else that starts these counters...
Have you set up the gprs connection by using the imate "select your provider" thing, or have you set it up manually?

Setting up Gmail

Well, I've got Gmail set up with the messaging application on my Wizard running WM5. But this does not offer any option to setup peaktimes and offpeak times for the "Send and Receive" function. Only option is to set the interval in minutes.
Any solution.
I basically do not want to "Send/Receive" at nights and on Sunday....
Thanks in advance.
Atul
I know I have seen programs that do this, but for the life of me, I cannot find them. I wonder if they have all gone away, for some reason...
AHA!
Persistence pays off, at last. I have found this: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-bandswitch-v1-2-3.html
It functions like MoDaCo's (may require free registration to download files) NoData application (which I was prepared to offer you as a stop-gap measure) except for one HUGE difference, it has a sleep timer like you wanted...
You'll have to guinea pig yourself, I don't have time to put the app through its paces.
Sorry, link was dead, but I tracked down the cab file.
D/L directly: www.commmgrpro.com
Use at your own risk. I just discovered it has a 15 day trial period, and the guy wants 10 Euro for the license. Seems kind of steep to me.
As a last resort, use NoData to disable everything before bedtime, and just switch everything back on when you get up. If I find something else, I'll post it here.
After some quick fooling around with my 8125 during lunch, I discovered that I can disable all network access (not just the phone) simply by putting my phone in airplane mode. Seems to block programs that automatically log on when functioning, too.
Give it a try.

Thanks for your replies... disabling network access is not really the solution I'm looking for. What I'm trying to do is reduce data traffic on the network (very expensive in India). Currently I've set up Gmail to be synched every hour instead of 15 minutes that I'd like to do. I hardly receive important email on Saturdays and Sundays. So I basically wanted to skip that.
Anyways, now I'm just switching off Auto synching on fridays and bringing it back on on Mondays... ;-)

LongRunner v0.1 Beta - long life your battery - radio off, email sync on

The idea is: Radio consumes not unsignificant battery power, especially when you're travelling. Sometimes you dont have to be available for calls...
LongRunner turns off the radio part and keep that for defined time interval. Then it automatically sync all POP/IMAP accounts, the On interval should be long enough to even receive SMS.
Download
LongRunner.cab
(Tested on smartphone platform only, however it should work on PPC's too)
What do you think of this idea? Can it save any battery power? Can this be useful for anyone? Should I work on this or delete the project?
that's BRILLIANT!
thank you!
(Does that answer your questions? )
btw, the mail check thingy isn't necessary for everyone.. i suggest having the option to check mail and not make it the only option.
I'm currently not home to try and test this (Happy Thanksgiving everyone) but this is a great idea! I cannot wait to test this and please do continue development!
really great idea ! keep develop this project
i think it's a good idea too... i'll test it next week...
Any plans to support FlexMail sync? If you need, I can get the command FM uses to sync.
when i click start nothing happens.

If the purpose of the app is to disable the radio, hence incoming calls, then I would imagine No - it won't ring.
This is a cool Idea!
great idea as i would defenenetly use for sms.... but it is not working on my kaiser.
Will watch for updates
Whats the difference between setting to "flight mode" when no need to be avail.?
this one is automatic and will check your mail after a specific time interval...
so that you don't need to remember to put your phone on flight mode and then back.

i believe that wont happen, since sms uses radio.
this is for emails only.
correct me if im wrong OP!
It's not for emails only. SMS's and calls are the same thing. when you turn your radio back on you'll receive your messages. Emails have to be checked manually as they don't depend on the network, that's why he added the option to check emails when the radio's turned back on.
I clicked on start and nothing happened.
I have a Sprint Touch Diamond.
Make it a little a clear:
When radio off - How will incoming calls be received ?
SMS may be recd as and when I put my radio active.

you won't get incomming calls. all this does is allow you to set intervals for the radio to be turned on so that you can download your emails and sms.
i think this is what the app does
1 it disables the radio to save your battery(will disable both messages and calls)
2 it will enable the radio for a short period and check for messages
3 after the checking is done it will turn off radio again
My Tilt runs 40 hours on a charge with Flexmail running with online IMAP on 2 folders and periodically syncing 4 others. With Flexmail off, I imagine it would run well over 100 hours.
Doesn't seem like battery life is a big deal to me.. If your battery is running over 3-4%/hr, it's because of a lot of calls and or data and I don't see this program helping much in that direction.

Email send and Receive schedule

Hi
I was wondering if it is possible to set the send and receive schedule to work only during working hours. It is a bit of a pain as currently it is doing the send/receive every 15mins 24hours a day and the evening messages are more than likely junk.
If not then maybe there is a way to set a script to change the email download options and this can be set to run at the times required to turn send/receive on/off
Thanks
Sully
.
sorry, not possible
I am currently looking at mortscript but not sure if I can do it with that. I am thinking that send/receive can be set to automatic or manual and this setting must be in the reg. If I can write a little script or app that can change this reg value at specific set times therefore swithing on/off email download.
Never done anything on PPC before but I will give it a try and report back.
Sully
If your using activesync for emails then it is possible.
Open Activesync, goto Schedule, Set sync for peak times as every xminutes or as items arrive, set of peak for manual.
Then adjust peak times to suit your work day.
Works great for me.

Not so fast! I use just the program hungabunga is looking for
http://www.gudensoft.com/emailscheduler/
It can be used to automaticly change the send/recieve shedule based on the day of the week and time of day, it also supports push email.
I use it to turn my email checking off at night automaticly so it doesn't disturb me and also preserves my battery life.
tabannis you are a star, thanks just what I needed

disable email alerts/checks during the night

Anyone know of a way to get the hd2 to only check for emails during the day? it only gives options such as check every hour/4 hours etc, but not a time range.
As a result, it buzzes for emails received in the middle of the night. I want it to buzz for phone calls or text messages (could be emergencies), but not for emails which are usually trivial. So switching it off or silent is not an option
In the latest G-Profile there is an option to disallow all data connections, including emails. I have set up a night profile which has this option enabled so it does not download emails or update the weather and such. In the morning the night profile switches off automatically before my alarm goes off and so when I wake up the weather and emails are updated. Some other profile programs might have this feature also...
Either PhoneAlarm or Email Scheduler (http://www.gudensoft.com/emailscheduler/)
How did you manage to get updates during the night?
For me auto-updates work only when I turn screen on...

Has anyone used the Email scheduler? it looks reasonable (and free), but I don't like installing stuff that I don't know for (pretty) sure will work. I've just had a 'conversation' about my data usage on Virgin UK - apparently there's a 25MB per day limit and I was at 19MB by 8:00pm, so a little nervous that I'm going to run up charges. Need to limit and/or monitor my data connection.

Set windows to use the gps chip. Go to settings, menu, all settings, system, external gps and configure com ports in all the tabs. This will allow it to find your location. If you data connection is ending when in sleep mode it won't be able to update the forcast data. The fix for this seems to be either disable direct push and/or update the radio to 2.10.50.xx
All you need to do is go to activesync; there you can set peak and offpeak times; set offpeak to whatever hours (at night) that you want (for example 10pm-8am) and set it to not.
Just to be blunt as possible Activesync>Menu>Schedule> "Off Peak Times" set to Manual and then set your off peak hours
