??? HTC competition ??? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Anyone up for this device?
E-Ten's Glowfish X800
http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/15/e-tens-glofiish-x800-everything-but-the-qwerty/
Don't forget about http://www.phonescoop.com too they have a article about this as well.
I started cutting three lawns extra just for this device...

Other than screen size... and keyboardless, I don't think it's a big threat.

Hope Eten pushes HTC

I actually think HTC needs to push the envelope a bit further. Eten's X800 seems pretty dang incredible. VGA, GPS, FM Radio, 3G...all in one? I think that's pretty unbeatable. Knowing Eten, I'm sure they'll come up with the M series with the keyboard as well.
I'm seriously considering replacing my 8525 to Eten's X500+...pretty much like P3600....except with VGA and FM....but no 3G.

Okay I didn't see the specs. Didn't know it has built-in GPS and FM Radio.

Is there a new version of the Magician???

Hi all,
I love the look/feel everything about the i-jam/MDA/Magician device, however Im weary of buying one now as PPC2005 is just around the corner (or at least already on some devices)..
Does anyone know if HTC are planning to bring out a newer version of the Magician style device??
Thanks
Angelo
Found it!
Found it,
apparently its called Athena,
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4306.html
Angelo
try the wizard also that's out in the next few days, more or less the same just with a keyboard and some other extras
Not exactly the same, cosnidering it has a supposedely slower processor, no 2MegaPixel camera, no stereo speakers and it's quite chunkier. The Athena is actually slightly smaller than the Magician! Depends what you're looking for really. I would wait for the Athena.
yeah.. thicker..
Yea slightly thicker, but roughy the same weight..
The wizard does have 3G though which is really nice..
ho hum, I'll wait for the Athena and then make a choice..
I didn't think the Wizard had 3g? I thought it was only the Universal... hmm, I'll have to have a look at the official specs again....
Whoops
Sorry your right, it doesnt.. I must have misread something..

What next after the Uni goes to the grave?

Will yuo lot all get an HTC Omni?
I am thinking of it - I cannt go back to a norma phone now!
Even the tytn doesn't quite do it for me.
What do youse lot think?
lr
Well from what I understand, the Omni is still a concept...... So until I know specs, size etc I will reserve judgement. Altho the Tytn looks impressive I won't be runnning out to get one just yet. I was an early adopter for the PDA2k and the universal and don't relish the teething problems again.
That said, most software is WM5 compliant now and I have my uni running like a dream. As has been said before, I like both the form factor, VGA and the keyboard so will defo be interested if and whwn an omni materialise
well according to the dude in the know - the vp for mobile comms for micro$oft, it's the same form factor but thinner, lighter and with more h/ware buttons on it.
lol.
it can apparently output to a projecter too - tho that's nothing I imagime many users would cherish.
have a look on the mocado forums it's all on there...

LR.,
I just love the size of it, it actually fits in my pocket! It's just as quick (albeit with a slightly slower processor) and I love the extra features that Gigabyte have supplied, such as answer phone, call recording, call background noises (great for pretending you're somewhere where you're not! ) and it's even got the gimicks of live analogue TV and Radio.
Gigabyte don't seem to offer good tech support, but if you've had one PPC... you'll know how they work. Also you get a spare high capacity battery, desktop charger, case, all as standard (With i128 version)
The screen is just as crisp, the speakers louder and clearer than the Uni.... I've started a thread about it here with more indepth info and pictures...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=273825
The VGA screen and clamshell design is important for me. So if the new phone can't surpass or can't match what the Universal have, I won't even bother looking. A while back, there was another thread showing a little specs for the Omni and the first thing I noticed was there was no mention of a VGA screen and 3G, If that is true, then it is more of a downgrade than upgrade.

Inclined to agree, woul also appreciate an improvement in battery life. I am fortunate, cause mine spend most of its life plugged into an active car cradle otherwise, I don't think I'd make it through the day!
Paul O'Brien, a Microsoft MVP and Admin of MoDaCo (which should give the following story some credibility) claims many HTC Universal's wishes have come true - HTC IS working on a Universal successor, a clamshell QWERTY phone device with a VGA screen. The device, code-named the HTC Omni, will be smaller and thinner, but sport more buttons.
It will have HSDPA, and will ship with AKU 3, which will allow projector functionality. Unfortunately one of the biggest requested improvements, a small external display, did not make it into the design.
Paul claims the design is still fluid, but if it is meant to ship at the end of '06 / early '07 this does not seem likely.

Just in time for my next upgrade
Cheers slave this was a better version of my original post - lol mine was made from my uni on teeny tiny opera!

I wouldn't recommend this, it's not good for the battery, it needs to drain down otherwise won't hold it's capacity as well.

New phone: TyTn killer

http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/11/toshibas-g900-qwerty-hsdpa-tytn-killer/
What a phone !
Glad that I have not bought TyTn yet I will wait this phone for sure !
Amazing resolution at last !
for me the true killer of the TyTn is the HTC and the scarce quality that it uses for producing his ppcs...
HTC=scarce quality High costs
Too many unknowns about that one at the moment.
Could be a good one, the design looks a bit of a dogs breakfast though.
Size?
Mike
If it's Quad band and supports US 3G then it's a TyTn killer otherwise for us in the USA it won't be
PPC??
As far as I know it will not run with WM5 nor WM6. Screenshots suggest a total different OS. Go with it - but it will not replace my TyTN
It's not quad band and the GUI is flash.
Cool phone but lousy plaform and no north-american love.
The WM6 version of the LG Prada will end up more useful even if it is just EDGE.
It is running WM6 !
Check this side-by-side with TyTn:

... The behemoth features, as we mentioned an utterly unreal 3-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display, rear biometric scanner, 2 megapixel rear camera, front-facing video conferencing camera, 64MB of internal memory, miniSD expansion, tri-band HSDPA (yes!), 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, USB, video calling, and USB On-The-Go. The E01 is far more lower end, but still manages HSDPA, a 65k color display, A2DP Bluetooth, and that same 2 megapixel camera. ...

No way is this a TyTN killer, the only way to kill off the hermes is for the major networks to start using this, but they have it WAAAAAAY to easy with HTC at the moment. I can see it doing well but it has alot of catching up to do (especially with the major developments we have made on here with WM6, SSPL and HardSPL etc....)
The thing that puts me off that is the big border around the screen! I really think the TyTN looks smarter (I'm going entirely on looks here).
My Orange SPV M3100 (which is a HERM100 with silver/black colour scheme) is still the sexiest-looking phone I've ever seen.
You lucky bastard, I got the horrible T-Mobile Vario II - Never seen a phone being branded so ugly...

IMO, the Glofiish M900 is the true Tytn killer because it will have everything the X800 has plus a keyboard.
and Samsung F700 kills them all

How can you be a TYTN killer and not have a 5 way D-Pad? The only thing you can improve on the TYTN is put iTunes on it, maybe make it slimmer, and if it can do my taxes, hahahah.
But really, with this XDA community, I am sure we will have the latest and greatest for while to come. You can increase magapixels all you want, but this is still a slick device.

Whats the better phone??

Hey i have a few questions. I own a HTC TYTN and i'm looking for a new phone, and i'm not sure if i wanna get the X7501 or the Kaiser? What do you think?? size doesn't really matter to me. i'm just looking for the most functional phone. thanks for any help!!
get the htc x7500 if you know other people with cell phone that have a front cam. if not then get the x7501 but both r def better then the kaiser

Silly question to ask in an Athena forum! Given the Athena's size, if you're not sure you should read the many threads here on how wonderful it is.
The kaiser is a great phone if you are worried about size, The only drawback of the Athena is it's big - but that's because it has a massive screen.
It is the best 'device' just not as good as a phone. It depends what you want.

confucious is right with regard to the size. i predominantly use my Athena as a standalone office and browsing gadget. i can remote desktop, watch films and even youtube (though i NEVER thought the day would come!). I Rarely/never use the athena as a phone as i cant be bothered faffing about with bluetooth headsets, and it would bother me to be seen holding it to my head, so I just use an N95 for out-and-about. Other people get along fine with bluetooth kits AND without. its all down to personal taste.
The Kaiser has better connectivity than the Ameo as it supports category 6 HSDPA (3.6mbps) and the wonderous HSUPA. I believe it also supports EDR with its bluetooth 2.0.
I suppose the Kaiser is technically on a par with the Ameo in respect to its overall features, but its QVGA screen does look a little jagged and wishy washy when you're used to an athena.
if HTC recalled all the Kaisers and stuck a VGA screen on board then they would have a damn near unbeatable and future-proof bit of kit, and id sell my arse to get one, but until that day im sticking with my athena.

I would never hold it to my head but am happy to use a BT headset. I also use the web all day, have instant email etc etc etc. I just simply couldn't manage without the wonderful screen, especially at 128dpi

i cannot agree more with you! im used to the universal, loved the device in its vgamode.. then i broke it and now im stuck with a ****ty kaiser. WHY NO VGA!!!?? Maybe the glofish m600 would be a better step towards a smaller device but with vga? So no HSDPA 3.6mbit on athena?? thought it was?

Finally a real HD replacement?

This new rumoured device from HTC looks exciting:
8 megapixel camera, 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive display and 1GHz Snapdragon to mention a few. Just hope the build quality will be improved as I have so much issues with the current HD.

nice looking phone but everything htc make now works around the hd, im happy with mine
most important is it must support multl touch if not its useless again :X

The left one is the WVGA 4.3" model code name "Leo". The one on the right is called "Mega" with only QVGA resolution.
Leo is definitely more attractive, with bigger screen but smaller body. That's how all touch screen phones should be!
does anyone have any idea when will it be out? :0
i just bought my hd not even 3 wk >_< and i heard this new. it really break my heart :X
Here we have some more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4330209#post4330209
Minor improvements and, finally, flash light (2x led flash), at least for Leo.
I hoped the screen will stay the same size just the body will get smaller
It's to big for me...
I think this is the Firestone code named "Leo" the phone in above link is the Whitestone, could be wrong though.
I'm very interested in HTC Leo. I think its Camera is only 5 Mega Pixels, but it would be great if it is 8 Mega Pixels.
a little diffrence from our blackstone .............
i dont think its worth to switch fr the new phone and pay a big sum of money for the slight improvments
btw what is so good about multi touch? can someone advise

Why? Megapixels have nothing to do with quality. It's purely a marketing difference with these size of sensors and lenses - prolly 8 is past the point where it actually worsens the image quality.

Seconded.
A 4.3 inch screen is nice... but a chalkboard brush like that bulging out of my pocket isn't going to be very professional at board meetings unfortunately...
The Blackstone is already somewhat big with a case but I'm managing...

Definitely a little wider and taller, but also thinner. I find the thinness makes it easier to carry in a jacket or pocket than a smaller, but thicker phone.
HTC Leo
Good day,
Does anyone have any info about the Leo have the proper radio frequencies to work on AT&T USA wireless network?
I am an X7501 user who needs a BIG LCD and from what I hear the Athena 2 may be dead in its tracks. Hence the Leo may be right for me IF it will work on AT&T's wireless network.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The only specs seem to be the one on the page listed and that indicates European 3G bands. I'm hoping their will either be an ATT version or a Telstra Australian 3G version. With ATT moving all 3G to 850Mhz the Telstra would essentially meet all our 3G coverage needs for ATT.
Check this out. One more piece of data that seems to support those new renders are accurate.
