I guys,
my tomtom 6,2 work well on the HTC p3600 but i notice that when i use it the program automatcly turn on the BT!!!
in fact it say that has recognized "other bluetooth GPS".... but why if the gps is cabled internally?
it's a loss of energy because the BT turned on has no utility....
is there a method to fix this bug?
Thanks
tomtom 6.3 - you have the option to select internal device.
I'm very surprised...
I'm using the 6.030 now, but before that, I had been using the 6.20 for a while and never had such problem of bluetooth turning on.
I guess, in the settings tab, u haven't set it up manually, that's why it keeps making a comprehensive search of available GPS 'around'.
It's true that automatic detection of internal GPS is not available in 6.20 but if you set your preferences clearly as:
- other external NMEA GPS
- port com 9
It shall not search anymore about bluetooth periferic, as this is one of the choice you will have already got eliminated by making the above choice.
ok thanks....
but now on my 6.20 version in the otions i selected "another cabled GPS on com 9" not any other GPS on BT...
otherwise i'll try the new version.
Thanks a lot
TOMTOM 6.20... I only see 6.03 update on tomtom site ... ???
6.2 is easly foundable.... where is this 6.3 version?
the one we can download from e-club which version is?
thanks

It's 2 steps, one after the other in the GPS configuration settings:
1) which kind of device:
bluetooth periferic, ..., and then you have: another NMEA device
2) which port:
another GPS on com 9
That's true that in the second step, they don't mention bluetooth device, since it only list the ports already in use on your device.
But in the first step, there even is a picture of an external bluetooth periferic looking like the sirf III ones to illustrate that 'bluetooth' choice.

U will find no 6.3 version. It's a common mistake.
The right reference is 6.030, as I said in my post.
That's the version of Tomtom HTC was offering whith the upgrade to the GPS enabled ROM.

HI i have the GPSmart BT verision
and i have alos updated the ROm on my XDA II
all i can say is it works very very well i did have a delay when using
TOMTOM and that has now gone
Hope this help you out
I am also using the BT GPS Clip-on with the XDA II. Works perfectly after the O2 update. I'm using Tomtom 2 with the 2.09 GPS update from their website. Im not using it with the com port option, I'm using it as a Tomtom BT device.
Foruna clip on problems
I still can't get the tom tom gps driver to recognise / show information from the Clip on BT gps. I downloaded the latest driver from the tom tom site but still no luck. tom tom's gps drivers do not show the fortuna clip on. I have tried rebonding it with and without the serial port option. When I'm in the tom tom GPS page what GPS driver do I need and what com port do I select and do I need to set it up as com port 5 when I bond the gps????????
Well if you have the rom upgrade installed and you are using V 2.09 of the TOMTOM GPS drivers you can select
the device a TOMTOM Wireless GPS
and set the com port bit to Bluetooth GPS
I use this setup and have never had a problem
Hope this helps
I tried that but no luck, it would not show any satelite info on the gps pages. I notice in the blue tooth settings you can select com ports 4 & 5 for recieving and transmitting , what should these be set to? also when you bonded the fortuna, did you select the serial port option ?
Ta :x
Hi
It souds like you dont have the latest ver of the gps drivers fromtomtom installed
on V2.08 there was no mention of Bluetooth so i think you have that ver installed
And yes when i bonded with the GPSMART it asks me if i want to use the serial profile
Do you have ver 2.09 ? if not i can post it on here for you

I too have same problem - have 2.09 gps but now not getting info, it bonds ok, but won't display any tracked sats, do i need to say yes to serial when bonding?
Yes you must say to to it or it will not work
(that is if you have the updated Rom installed)

All working now
now the back light drops out
I have tried reloading the ROM upgrade and reloading the Tom tom 2 software and latest drivers from the Tom Tom site (ver2.09GPS driver)
I still am having problems with the fortuna GPS. In tom Tom GPS it does not show any satelites and the little sat dish to PDA legends on the right hand side show no communication
Now the Back light drops out without warning and when I check the back light settings it has reverted to no back light on the battery power! (yes the battery is fully charged) and I keep getting a communication error popping up saying (cannot start communications with desk top computer" and the XDA 2 is not even in it's cradle
HELP!!!
I'm tempted to send it back to O2 for them to sort it out.
I have used fortuna gpsmart with xda2 with standard rom and had no problems, is it possible for you to download the launchrom from the O2 site and see if that will get you back where you started. You could also try unbonding everything then after loading the latest bthtools rebond and try that.
It worked fine with the original ROM & BT tools patch. I cant find the original rom on O2's site. May be I downloaded a corupt version even though it said updated ok? It took so long to down load on a dial up connection ( Damn XP at work on a broad band connection wont let any one apart from the administrator download programs!!!)
Do O2 send out discs with the rom update on them?
Also just noticed, when I try to turn it off on the power button all that happens is that the backlight turns off and the isplay is still there allbeit very faint. Still at least my BT200 works now!
I had the same problem for a few days after I got the Fortuna, but all went OK, not sure how I did it really, just kept, trying
I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem, sometimes I want to start TomTom2 with no GPS, just to do a quick route for someone, but when I start it, it locks up (presumably cause it cant find Bluetooth), I cant go into the GPS app to turn GPS off with the tick. The only way I can do it is turn on the Fortuna, THEN untick in the GPS app - very messy. Is there anyway to start TomTom without GPS/Bluetooth active?
Why is it that the Holux driver does not appear in the Tomtom list of available drivers. Can't seem to install anything from the CD driver supplied with the GPS receiver. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you in advance.
I got this from the tomtom website and posted it here a few weeks ago.
If you are thinking of buying TOMTOM 3 please read this from the TOMTOM website.
Compatibility
- Not compatible with Holux GPS Receiver
- Not compatible with Integral Compact Flash Cards
- Not compatible with CF Type II cards (Microdrives)
- Not compatible with TomTom II Maps
I got mine working with tomtom 2 by downloading bluetooth tools patch but havent tried it with tomtom 3.
I decided to give it a try. if you have the gps already bonded make sure you delete the bonding first. Download and install the latest bluetooth tools from here
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html
Set bluetooth to discoverable mode, choose "new", it will find the gps, enter code, mine is 6268, when you ok it, bluetooth tools should pop up, I chose serial/com4. Once complete, make sure bluetooth mode is "on".
Go to tomtom, choose "gps", go to the lower box where you should now see your holux gps listed, choose this then tick the large box on the left. You should now have a working tomtom3 system despite what it says on the tomtom website about it not working.

howdy.
ive got myself a holux gr230 which of course isnt listed as a supported device, but once bonded its visible in the lower box, but it wont connect. what should i select in the upper box?
im also having probs with tomtom activation. it says its activated, but when i try to go into uk maps it just says that "this activation code is not valid for Great_Britain" but the majour roads of europe version seems to work fine. ne ideas?
Cheers.

I am using the DCONNEX DC-230 BT GPS, which is in fact a rebadged Holux GR-230.
Flawlessly.
I use Rom 1,72 with native BT stack.
Just bond the GPS, say YES to questions on assigning a COM port
In TomTom select NMEA Bluetooth and COM5
Only issue is that TomTom alsmost hangs the MDAII when it cant find the GPS (ie. GPS off, BT off, GPS out of reach).
Still looking for a solution for that . . .
I have the same problem that TOMTOM hangs. This is very annonying as sometimes I would like to check the Map in TomTOm without having my Holux Mouse with me. I then have to use TomTom Wizard to uncheck the little box in gps setting and then change to simulator :?
Before I was using BluetoothTools and TomTOm worked also fine without a GPS Mouse for a Map, but Bluetooth Tools introduced a considerable lag (looking for bluetooth headset) of the XDA when taking a call, this was also very annoying as I use the XDA2 primarily as a phone, and the phone has to work perfect ....
Greetz
WELL I'M USING 1.60 ROM ON MY XDA 2, BT TOOLS, AND I BONDED ON COM 4...BUT ALL TOMTOM 3 SHOWS IN LOWER BOX IS:
COM 2,9bt ON COM 6, AND bt GPS.....
NOTHING OF THEM WORK...
PLEASE HELP ME...
@RDKAY:
Great to hear I am not the only one suffering from the TomTom hanging without GPS connected.
BTW: What ROM are you using?
I put bluetooth in discoverable mode, it finds the holux gps, it asks "do you want this device as a serial device" answer yes. Switch bluetooth to on, in tomtom, the top box reads tomtom wireless gps, the bottom box reads com 5, it works perfectly.
Im sure you all have latest opdate from tt..or? had the same problem activating major roads, opdate solved this problem..why use wizard changing gps? uncheck recieve all incoming beams in connections, go to programs/tomtom gps change gps to any serial gps..(not uncheking gives an error message: can not open com 1: port does not exits. rom 1.66.00).

considering getting tomtom5 for my mda compact.
anyone know whether its compatible, has anyone got it?
Should be. TomTom 3 and 4 worked fine.
By the way, Bakonl's release of TomTom 5 was just posted on alt.binaries.warez.pocketpc.gps, along with a few maps.
Benelux map only.. :x
TT5 does work
and not only benlux maps are posted. italy, france, germany, spain, uk are posted as well. rest will be posted as well i guess.
anyway, waiting for my legal TT5 to arrive (with the bt gps), woei =)
I can't get it working... I tried installing in the program files and in the storage card directories but it crashes at the end of the tutorial, just after that the "Welcome to TomTom Navigator" message appears in the map screen.
I can't see the map nor the GPS is able to connect (TomTom "3" Navigator Wireless).
I can't find any registry entry, I modified the currentmap.dat in order to point to /storage card/italia-map.
Anyone was able to reproduce my problem and to solve it?
Yeah, I noticed there are a few maps out. I'd like Scandinavia tho Seems like a buggy version too.. Crashes often.
Yeah... reeeeally buggy, I tried to check the post in the alt.warez.pocketpc.gps newsgroup for infos about bugs/problems etc. but I can't find it in my nssp server and using the web I'm not able to see the post (I can just see the header) so... I still can't use it  ; maybe it could be a bad installer, I noticed that sometimes it won't install some cabs from the cd, or maybe it's just the italian map which is corrupt... who knows? 8)
I guess the release on alt.binaries is a preview or beta version.
The official release of Tomtom 5 will be end of June.
Im still waiting for Destinator PN on emule...
Where can i find the TomTom 5?
I have installed TomTom 5 to see if it works, I'm unable to connect my BlueTooth GPS (Holux GPSlim 236). The port does not show up on the device list under Buzz WM2005.
Does anybody know how to change this?

I had the same problem.... go to the bluetooth com ports, change the GSM to use COM8.
Then start -> settings -> gps, on the first tab set com4 and on the second tab tom com8. The thrid tab should have the checkbox set.
Now reset your device.
Start tomtom, goto your GSM setup, choose Other bluetooth, select COM4.
Now exit tomtom and reset your device.
Start tomtom and wait a while (can take a few minutes for it to find the GPS).
This worked for me (you need the resets in order to detect the com ports!!)
Ikkuh
@Ikkuh,
How can I change the Com port settings on my MDA Compact? I can't seem to understand you're solution. I need Com 8 and TT5 only has 2,4,5 and 9.
Thanks in advance!

There is a serial port multiplexer build in just for the GPS. It is under settings -> GPS, if you use this, you can create a virtual serial port, and attach it to the hardware GPS. If you do this and reset the device, the virtual GPS will show up in TomTom (in my case it did ;-) )
Ikkuh
I must admit dickr43 has got a point. Even though you are trying to be helpful, Ikkuh, it's a bit hard to understand.

Doesn't exist either. Must be some third party app you have installed...
dickr43,
Try removing your GPS pairing from the Magician. Go select the 'Bluetooth Setting' icon under Settings/System and make sure both the serial ports are activated. Note which COM port is 'Outbound', then re-pair with your GPS device. Start TT and in the GPS settings panel, you should get things running by selecting the COM port that was marked for Outbound.
Unless you are running some third party software with virtual BT COM ports, that should get you up and running. If you are, try each COM port one by one. Don't hurry through the ports, but give it time to connect. 5-10 seconds at least. Also make absolutely sure your GPS is within range and has a satellite fix, or you are wasting your time.
I cant use tomtom 5 as a route map
I just want to use it sometimes without the gps module is it possible. Because with the older version it was possible to select a GPS simulator.
THX
The "unofficial" versions of TomTom5 doing the rounds seem to have been taken from beta builds. I installed without any problems, but noticed a number of bugs (not recognising GPS, the program freezing, picking up wild GPS info, settings not sticking)... sometimes you'd think it was working, and you'd think you'd got it stable, but then they'd fall down.
I've tried 3 different versions doing the rounds right now and none of them are stable. I'll wait a month or so for a more finished release is available.
i got my hands on TT5 aswell, the program looks realy nice and lot improvement to TT3, but as mentioned above, it's not very stable, spontain exiting of TT5 is not cool when youre in the middle of no where.
my gps was recognized directley,
i just went to BT settings and checked Com5 and a messege apeared that i must bond with a compatible device, so i bonded with my GPS reciever and in the TT wizard i could chose Com5 and it connected right away, much easyer than TT3
regards.

Hi
Upgraded to mary Windows 6- but can't configure the settings for the GPS
Set the unit for Com 9 - but what setting is it for the GDP port?
Also- this section is in Italian!!
Paul
To use GPS, you actually don't need to touch anything in the GPS applet.
Just setup your application to use COM9 is good enough. Of course, if you want to use the intermediary driver, you can set it to whatever GPSx in your GPS applet setting.
Still no GPS....
Thanks for the answer.
I have set the hardware to Com9 - but it also asks what to set the software "GPS software port" to- but that cannot be com9 - it won't allow it. So far no success in getting the GPS to operate
what software are you using the gps with?
Using Google maps- Also GpsGate cannot find the GPS system- using Mary Win 6 ROM
solved it!
It needed a Radio upgrade to 1.5 to get the GPS to be recognised!

Hi all,
I'm an htc newbie, because i've just bought an used p3600 (Trinity s300+).
I've a problem with gps, i've installed tom tom 7 and gps test 1.0.4 for pocket pc, but either program don't recognize the built-in gps.
this is my actual configuration:
O.S.
ROM: Kamba_a v10.1
RADIO Version: 1.16.00
External GPS Settings:
Programs: port GPD1
Hardware: port COM9 Baud rate: 57600
I don't know if the problem depends on my configuration or on a broken gps!
Is there a method to know the cause of the problem?
Thanks in advance
In TomTom 7, you need to use "Other NMEA GPS receiver" instead of "Built-in GPS receiver", then select 57600 baud and Com 9.
I would assume your other program would need Com9 and 57600?
Actually, I just re-read your post and noticed your radio version. That seems strange for a Trinity. Maybe it's something I don't know, but it could be your radio needs to be upgraded.
For instance, the radios that I'm familiar with are numbered:
1.38.00.11
1.46.00.11
1.46.30.11
1.50.08.11
1.56.70.11
Possibly, they are different in Italy?
It's quite possible, given that it is a second hand purchase, that the Trinity in question has one of the early Radios, that didn't have the GPS enabled. I know mine initially didn't, it needed an upgrade. At the time i just upgraded it direct from HTC to the latest WM5 ROM. Link to MegaUpload
Thanks for your repsonse!
I'm in Italy, but the phone was born in France . Is an used SFR s300+.
Originally it had a WM5 rom with gps enabled, now it has th WM6 Kamba_a v10.1 rom!
It is possible to upgrade only the radio rom, with one of those suggest by
SuperSport?

clear skies, don't move
Hi gaivao.
Welcome aboard. From over 3 years experience, what makes GPS fix to be the fastest is just what the header says. Turn your GPS application and try to acquire signal away from buildings. Being stationary helps too. It can take few minutes the first time after soft reset, but then drops to 30-40 seconds (at least on the part of the world i am at.
All programs like Quick-GPS are , IMO , not changing much, if ever. It's hard to tell because the test conditions to get a real answer are not ideal to really put the application only under test.
Two major comments: 1- have your phone run on external power when you use GPS. battery lasts hardly 3 hours with GPS on. 2- the less soft resets you do, the more likely you get quick fix every time you need it.
I use the GPS every day, and I do carry a spare battery for the times I forget to disconnect the GPS and leave the car. I have been once away from external source, and my battery died because of the GPS, and all my schedule for that day was on my phone (customers, phone numbers, to do list, etc.). Was pretty ugly..
Enjoy the phone- it is a good purchase for the next year or so.

I suggest you to change the Program Port from GPD1 to COM4: because most applications don't use a such port. After that, you can configure your favorite Navigatin software to the selected Port. The Advantage: you can run multiple Application with simultaneously access to the GPS device through the Program Port.

I would say you gps is not working cos your radio is not up to date I tried it with 1.16 and it would not work for me, I put on radio 1.46 and it worked fine on internal gps with tomtom 6 and other gps on tomtom 7
