Dopod 838 Password required??? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
As the title says, I bought a Dopod 838, second hand obviously, and when I power it up, it posts through the HTC screen, the Windows Mobile screen and the next screen asks for a four digit "Password".
NB I've tried this powerup with and without the SIM inserted, it seems as though the device is locked.
From the information the seller gave me, he never had a password on the device and it's not locked to any provider.
I've read through this and other forums, but I'm just more confused now than before, any ideas on what is going on and/or what I can do about working around this mysterious password? Is there a standard pass that the manufacturers use like other phones I've had?
I really appreciate feedback on this problem,
Cheers

Hard reset your Wizard by pressing CommManager + Voice Command and the reset hole.
The 4 digit password is set by previous owner.

PERFECT!!
Thanks for your help

Passwords and Windows Mobile - QTEK 2020

I apologise if this is seen as a newbie post, but I'm not sure where else to turn. I have read the wiki and other spots around the web but to no avail. My friend bought a QTEK 2020 from ebay and set it up and put a password on it then turned it off. Ever since, the password is not accepted so the unit cannot be turned on. The hint has been changed to her hint, but the password seems to be something different to what she entered.
I have tried a hard reset: reset with stylus + power button to no avail, the password is still on it. I have tried to do a crash course in ROM updating but can't seem to get that to work either. And to compound all this, I don't have the windows XP driver for the unit.
Can somebody please help!? I would appreciate it.
Thankyou,
Greg

Someone Help Please!!

So, I have an 8525, newest rom from Cingular/HTC, and a few apps.
The apps I am running are as follows:
SPB Pocket Plus
SPB Mobile Shell
SPB Diary
VibraSwitch
Device Lock
Jetware BT Fix
Clear Temp
and a few other irrelevant ones.
Anyways, I have the Device Lock mapped to the Comm Mgr button. So, I lock the device, and power off the screen. When I go to wake up the device, Instead of the usual unlock in the bottom right of the screen, first I get Password, so I hit it, then I have to hit unlock, then unlock again as normal....
Any suggestions? I have never set a password on this device, so I dont know why all of a sudden it is prompting me for it.
Thanks,
John
Same thing happened to me when I installed Shell on my touch.
that's wierd. I had the trial version for a while, then got the full version, and only started with the full version. Never happened when I had the trial version.
Do a so called hard reset:
Press and hold the Left SOFT KEY and Right SOFT KEY, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the bottom of your device. You will be presented with a menu saying 'press R to reset, X to exit', if you press R Your device will be set back to factory default settings.
(The L/R soft keys are the "--" keys just up the start and OK buttons)
This should do the trick!
Hermes 100 (8525 Cingular) (WM6 Flashed) Won't except PASSWORD
Hi all! I'm a new member here so the help is greatly appreciated.
So here's the deal. I just recently got married while doing the last minute prep for the big day my hermes 8525 decides to get devil possesed on me.
It started a few days before. Sometimes losing radio connection and other times locking up right after a call was completed but not fully ended. It was OK I guessed since I was able to powerdown and restart (remove the battery) and resume "normal" use.
BUT on the day before the wedding, That lil @#$% decides to lockup one last time and after a power down (removing battery) and restarting the unit, I was prompted to enter the password (as usual), BUT this time after entering my password for access, like I always do, I got the response stating that my password was not entered in correctly. AAAARRRRRGH! NO WAY! but yes way. The worst has struck.
After searching my ARSE off looking for a solution the best I came acress was a "hard reset". Another AAAARRRRGH!
From what I understand this would wipe off all my data. This would really hurt since I had recently entered many long lost (over 10 years) family members contact info that I was finally able to track down.
So, I'm reaching out to this community for something... anything that would HELP!!!
How can I get into my phone and get my contacts back???
TIA
I really appreciate any help on this one!
NEAR TEARS!
Still Stuck
THanks for the replies and the suggestion for the HARD RESET which I'm finding very hard to DO! Not that I can not just that I CAN"T!
I've been talking with an HTC tech in the hopes that this issue can get a better resolution than NUKE'n all my data. Didn't hear from him last night, guess he's still diggin for a solution. I'll have to call him in the morning. Hopefully he has figured out something.
Thanks Again ALL!!!

Help! Locked out of Tytn

Can anyone help me get into my phone? For some reason it is no longer accepting the 4 digit password when I switch on the phone. It's not saying the number is wrong, just "Emergency phone calls can be made". It says this as soon as any numbers are entered and before the Unlock soft button is pressed. Pressing the Unlock button seems to do nothing.
I can still browse the phone using ActiveSync. Is there a file I can remove to prevent the phone from locking when I soft reset it?
I've got HTC home installed and the phone is running Windows 6 (an official O2 upgrade). I'd like to avoid hard resetting the phone if poss.
Thanks
Fixed
Tried the same 4 digit pin today and it worked! There must be a timed lock that kicks in after a number of tries. There was a clock running yesterday on the screen.
But the odd thing was that I hadn't tried to get into the phone for a couple of days.
Now a bit worried that this'll happen again randomly. Does anyone know how this works?

unlock password

My wife has set an alphanumeric password for her HD. On powerup the screen shows only a numeric screen which is unlike any of the usual keyboards or phonepad so no letters can be entered. Phone will not unlock. Definitely not SIM locked, only phone is locked. Dont want to do hard reset as all photos &c are not backed up. Anyone had this?

Emergency phone calls can be made, In HTC HD2

Dear all,
I removed my HTC HD2 better without using the reset function, as usual I get the Windows Mobile pin code screen, as you know 4 numbers are required to enter the phone, unfortunately the number that I am sure 100% is correct were not accepted and my phone somehow is locked.
Currently, the phone is displaying this message "Emergency phone calls can be made"
Any idea on how to sort out this issue?
Best regards,
Been a long time since I was locked out of a phone; when I did it years ago you need to phone your provider for a PUK code.
From what I've seen in other threads of a similar type, just pop the battery out or reset the phone to fix the issue of it not recognising your password, and I believe it only locks it for about half an hour, so you should be able to try again later.

New Response From [ Ahmed (MEA Support (Tech)) ]
Thank you for contacting HTC,
Dear Valued Customer,
Regarding your enquiry, kindly follow the steps below:
First: It is preferable to remove the SIM card and turn the phone on without it, to see if the number required is the PIN code. If that is the case then contact your network operator to ask them to provide you with the number.
If the device is still asking for a password, even with out the SIM card, then you will have to perform a hard reset.
Kindly note that, hard reset will delete all your personal data that is stored on the phone memory. It is better to have a back up of all your data if possible.
Hard reset steps:
1) With the phone turned off, press and hold volume up and volume down buttons. Then press the END/Power buttons briefly and release it. You will see this message on the screen.
2) Press the volume up to perform the hard reset, press any other button to cancel the reset.
3) Release the volume and volume down buttons, and follow the on screen instructions.

OMG ! He ment password (PIN) protected screensaver - NOT the SIM/PUK access codes.
WM6.5 devices have a history of suddenly "forgetting" user PIN numbers. Then only hard reset helps destroying all personal data.
Shame on Microsoft !
It happened to me today.
