Today screen radio device toggler + discover mode - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

update: Have added a discoverable toggle to this guy.
1 click = on, 2nd = discoverable, 3rd = off
Also changed the name to EffComm so it's all the same across the board.
Still looking into adding eyecandy.. Does anyone know a nice and simple graphics library for C++ mobile that will load PNG files with alpha channel or something similar ??
Here's a plugin we've made to toggle bluetooth/wifi/phone directly from the today screen with a single click. All comments welcome!

Installed okay on the Dopod D810 but where do I find the program to actually run it or enable it in Settings > Today > Items??

hmm.. yes it should be in there. I think it's listed as "EffComm" in there (something else that needs to be fixed!)

cool mate, works perfectly.
Some eyecandy please.

it works perfect on my Eten Glofiish X500 on WM6 as well.

It works great on my HTC TyTN. You know what would make this the best today plugging if you could control 3G on\off.

congratz, will recommend this on other forums, personally i prefer wm5newmenu's submenu with vijay555's soft like vjvolubilis, vjbluetoggle, vjphonetoggle etc... but your plug is neat
maybe it is possible to add all things from commgr? heh, it would be NICE.
works on wm06 wizard.
btw, could you align "phone:ON/off" position to the right? this free space for "f" is hm, ugly.

Was in search of a plugin like this. Awesome

Works fine in Uni (O2 Exec, Jasjar, etc.). Simple & effective! Thanks.

Thanks, I can see it in Settings > Remove programs but cannot find it in my Programs menu, Today screen nor under Program Files on the device or Storage Card.
I am going to try a reinstall...
*back*
I have the same entry appearing under Settings > Remove programs but still nothing everywhere else.
But this time, I have \Storage Card\Program Files\Today Radio Device Toggler\EffComm.dll
Also, still nothing under Programs, either under 'Effcom' or 'Today Radio...'
Hrmmm...oh well!

Cool app. let me have a try and report when i'm home.

BlackBeauty...
It should be under Settings -> Today -> Items ?

one comment
I would like to have bluetooth turn on in discovery mode.
Is it possible?
most likely I turn on bluetooth only when my friends send me somethin.
If I send files via bluetooth, i can do it with activate bt first

SS for those who would like to see it:

good, minimal plug imo.

Just a Thought...
Small Icon's for each will make it more eyecandy.

Blackbeauty,
Can you check your program files folder and see if "Today readio device..." is in there and also if there is an entry in your registry under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\Effcomm ?
What OS are you running ?

Adding programs to today screen?

I have disabled O2 active on my XDA Exec & want to know how to add programs to today screen.

Colin Bate
This is a link to the site about using the Today API to create your own desktop items:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnppcgen/html/ppc_yapi.asp
Hope this helps,
Graham.
Thanks GBird but im not a programer.
Regards
Colin Bate
In that case, all you can do is add or remove items from the Today screen by going into Settings - Today, selecting the Items tab and choosing which items you wish to see and in which order.
Graham.
The owner's manual might give you a better description than we can, Colin, but you choose which items display on the Today screen by going to:
Start > Settings > Personal > Today > Items
Put ticks next to the items that you want to display.
Hey mate,
Try this application. It is called launcher and you can easily add icons so any programs wanted are available from the today screen (when I say easily, even I can do it....). I have word, excel, pocket tv, calculator etc etc all readily available.
Any questions don't hesitate to ask.
HPJ
Thans HPJ I have downloaded launcher & will give it a try later as im at work now.
Regads
Colni Bate
colinbate - if you're interested in launching items from the today screen, I heartily recommend cLaunch http://home.pacific.net.sg/~welic/claunch.html
I'm not sure if it works with the universal, but it's very nice and customisable: this is my (old) Magician setup:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Using claunch at the bottom with my vjsms and vjdialer tools to have quick dials (not fully WM5 compatible I understand, but for illustration purposes only). This is using the left up/down arrows to switch between 3 "banks" of launchable items as required (I have Bank 1=Quick dials, Bank 2 = Launch Calendar etc, Bank 3 = Phone Profiles and Volume control etc)
V
Thanks for that tip Vijay i will give that a try.
I found SPBPocketPlus Which does what i want but this slows the exec almost as much as O2 Active.
Regards
Colin Bate
Colin, there are variations on claunch depending on compatibility.
cLaunch is my favourite, but if necessary, check out tdlaunch (precursor to claunch). Launcher also works. Can you please post if there are problems with claunch on WM5 - I'm in touch with the author and he'd probably be interested to know.
V
I will try cLauncher but not till to tonight will report back tomorrow
Regards
Colin bate
I installed cLauncher last night seems that it will do what i want.
I didnt have much time to play with it.
Problems i have found are on the setup screen the buttons disapear off the bottom of the screen in landscape mode on other screens i have a scroll bar to scroll down but not on main setup screen & there is no keyboard icon in the middle of the bottom tool bar so i cant type anything in in portrait mode.
Regards
Colin Bate
colinbate - it's from pre VGA/landscape days; I think on the Brighthand forums there might be some discussions of a VGA version of tdLaunch, but that might be too much of a backwards step if claunch does most of what you want.
To get around the keyboard icon issue, temporarily, you can try using my program SIPSwitch on the development board. That will allow you to assign any hardware key to bringing up the SIP (input panel) without using an icon. I don't know if it's WM5 compatible, but no reason it shouldn't be, I hope.
V
I will give your SIPswitch program a try.
Where do i find the builtin progams I.E. Exel & word I can't seem to find them to add to cLaunch.
Regards
Colin Bate
They're normally in the \windows\ directory as both a .exe and a .lnk file.
V
The reason i could not find them is they are called pword & pxl.
Regards
Colin Bate

Missing GPS option from Settings

I used to have an option called GPS under Settings of WM5 of my Cingular 8125 (aka HTC Wizard). I suspect, I may have deleted it accidentally. I did hard reset, but it hasn't come back. How can I restore it?
some info for Universal posted here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry
should still apply
To hide or show the GPS connection in the connections panel
The settings are at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings'
The 'Hide' DWORD value should be set to '0' or deleted to show the panel and to '1' to hide the panel
The 'Group' DWORD value should be set to '2' to show the panel and deleted to hide the panel
For example, to show the GPS connection in the connectionss panel
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\Hide = 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\Group = 2
hi Simon_darley,
Thanks for the link and suggestion. When I looked at that key on my phone, I don't see those values instead I see "Redirect". Still, I created those values (Hide & Group), but the icon didn't appear in any of the pages of settings or program. After soft reset, it didn't either. And strangely, the new values disappeared. Next I deleted "redirect" and recreated the values, but the same problem continued.

how did you soft reset? are you using 3rd party software to do the reset? if not, you need to cycle the power off using the power button for about 20 seconds before you reset.
I think you will need to remove the redirect key.
I checked on my Universal and enabled that feature via those exact registry keys.
If that doesnt help, then i cannot unfortunately as I dont have the wizard.
ssaibal,
Did work?
Thanks
That didn't work
I tried various methods...but none worked. Now I have the Hide and Group values in place all the time and "redirect" deleted. I understand that these stuff are part of the ROM and so when I do a hard reset, it should restore the settings to default. It is really strange that it is not back. I haven't done ANY updates to the ROM. This is just 2 weeks old phone from Cingular.
Hello,
Thanks.
My ROM never has this option!
I intended to put it, but if don't work by this way... I think will flash a new ROM... maybe the newer iMate, Think is the newest ROM for Wizard (I have a MDA Vario).

Well, never heard about GPS option on Wizard.
Did You mean GPRS?
no gps,
if you set up tomtom with a gps receiver, the only choices in bluetooth settings for com ports are com 6 or 7, in tomtom neither of these are available as a choice, if you enable the new gps icon, you can create a new com port in the tomtom gps settings to use, eg com 6.
this is not the only use for this new icon, but it does what i need.
had the same problem (com6/7) not showing until i installed version5.12 of tomtom.... and it just showed up & worked.

Hi everybody,
Ssaissal, I have this option under System settings of WM5 on my M3000 (Qtek9100 by Orange). I have installed VirtualEarthMobile.cab on it but I am not sure if the GPS setting comes with or not.
If you are interested, visit: https://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/attachment/526876.ashx
Regards.
Attached is a small cab file and it will give you what you are looking for

spants,
But You can add COM ports at bluetooh manager... I can add port 6 with Tomtom 5.21 at my Wizard!
afaik at least the most recent Wizard roms do NOT have the GPS applet installed.
No matter what you chage in the registry, you wont see GPS in settings because it simply is not there.
For use with most software no issue, as they all expect to communicate via a SPP com port
(as is TomTom)

Put up one more update to fix the a2dp stuff for our newer kernels that usejointstereo works properly on!
Thanks shadowmite!! I've been waiting for this for ages
darkjedi, anytime you can get me a just those first lines of your error I'll be more than happy to fix it for ya... If ANYONE gets a error, I need to know how you got it, what rom you're running, and the first 2-3 lines of the error detail. Thanks!
I tried the 1.7 and it seems to have fixed it. Or I haven't seen it since, and I've saved/reset with it a few times now.
Had a issue after installing this application as to when I opened a messageing (inbox, outbox, or any other) the window automatically opened to the bottom of the message, meaning I had to use slider or up buttom to scroll to the top of the message to read.
There were two other issue which I'm not sure were relating to this App, just so happens that they appeared after the app was installed, but gone when removed.
Jumping to the bottom of your mails is a sideeffect of the hack to enable scrolling in iexplore...Nothing you can do besides disable navigating with d-pad...
Installed, looks pretty cool. No bugs/errors so far.

Hi
I have the same problem. I did a hard reset but it wasn't completely resolved. Just that now it went up to the beginning of the message but not the top of the message.
Can't remember whether this happened after I installed the HTCustom.. But is there anyway to check whether any of the registry was amended and how to amend it back? Would hard reset actually reverse the effect of installing the HTCustom?

Thanks for letting me know.
Hey, this is a great little application, thanks a lot. Dark Jedi told me about this and he was right, it has helped me fix a few issues. Great work.
Bug Report (a tiny one, but nontheless...!)
Hi Shadey,
Could you please fix HTCustom so that it saves (or re-reads) the last status of "Short Date Format" in the UI tab? Being on this side of the pond, we have the date in the correct format (dd/MM/yy) - unlike you guys! (joke!) ...But every time I go into the app. to change something else I have to remember to "fix" the date format as you always default back to the dodgy way round! Tar very much!
PS. Scrolling the page up when the keyboard pops up while changing the aforementioned setting is definitely overkill and not necessary... but it *would* be nice - only if you're feeling flush, like!!!
Cheers matey.
One of the things that bug’s me with the scroll wheel and nav buttons is the amount of scrolling that happens each press/scroll.
I want to be able to scroll up and down the page in IE and email (not to and from hyperlinks) with the scroll wheel. Currently it jumps a screen at a time. Can the scroll wheel be set to smooth scroll, the same way you can with a desktop pc mouse (a few lines at a time).
This would be a good addition to this app (haven't used it yet, but haven't read that it can do it).
Thanks a lot man, great work !!

This is really cool. The description in the first post didn't say too much what it is about. I thought I would give it a try. It really does rotate the screen when you rotate the phone - in any program. Fantastic.
An it appears in AppToDate. Even better.
Sometimes, it is not necessary to write a novel.
The topic title says enough.
Nice find..... Its just brilliant.
very good release!!!
3 ask for you:
can I rotate the main screen (home, contacts,photos, etc..)?
this program has autorun?
can I exclude one program to rotation?
Please read the readme.txt and you will find the answers.
You can add shortcut in startup.
To exclude app use #window parameter.
To rotate TF3D home screen make no sense, because it is designed for portrait mode.
hi, i've tried this program and works great.. MANY MANY THANKS!!! i just added a shortcut to windows/start so it loads on startup.
i understand that #window parameter can be used to exclude one program, but i have a couple of questions:
1- can i add as many exceptions as i want??
2- if answer is yes,how should i write them?something like this?
#window(explorer.exe)
#window(commanager.exe)
thanks!!!!
awesome !
I was waiting for this one, thnx !

i wanted to exclude commmanager, dialer screen and the screen you get when someone is calling you.
so i tried with:

that didnt work, so any help would be appreciated...
How to disable rotating for commanager and dialer/answer screen????
Thanks!!!
thanks! here we have the first app for the G sensor.
what about a new app for the Gspot????? it has to be combined with vibrate function
Awesome app, works nice with the TLR 405 rom, rotates all my apps perfectly, including TomTom
Would love to see this app or similar cooked into newer roms

all the characters overlap.
Hope you can find out the cause of the problem.

This problem has nothing to do with our tool.
If you have this kind of problem, you will have it by using another rotation (manually) tool too.
i dont understand the readme how to make a working shortcut and not ask to unload...can someone please make a version i can copy and paste to...?
and it would also be nice if this worked in touchflo 3d.
I really like this one as mentioned before...
Onlt the rotation comes with a lag. It just take 2 or 3 seconds the rotate the screen. Is there any possibility this can be done faster or is this just antoher wm thing?
work fine!!!
thanks!!!!!!!!

WM6.5 Settings Menu structure

Hi everybody,
I've asked in other forums, but with no answer , maybe here... .
How to change structure of Settings Menu in WM6.5? I want to move "Today", "Clock & Alarms", "Bluetooth" etc into folders (Personal, System, Connections):
Screenshot is from polish WM6.5:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Or where in WM6.5 I can find the Settings structure? I can find it neither in registry nor in files in /Windows folder .
Sorry for my English

...hope this helps:
1. Open registry using any registry editor
2. everything is in HKLM/Control Panel
3. Select the setting you want to move,
let say you want to move Clock & Alarms to Personal setting,
go to HKLM/Control Panel/Clock,
under Clock, change the value Group to 0
4. Repeat step 3 for other settings you want to move
Here are the values of Group
0 = Personal
1 = System
2 = Connections
Perfect
Thank You, bajok!. It Works!
By the way, it's amazing: Poland - Philippines, half an hour, and the problem is solved...
Thanks! See you

BTW, to move a control panel to the top level, use a value of "-1" (0xffffffff in hex).
I do have another question about this...
Not all Control Panels are defined in the HKLM\ControlPanel registry key. For example, you can add a regular program to the Settings by putting a link to that program in \Windows\Start Menu\Settings. So, how do you move that program to one of the other Settings groups?
As far as I can tell, anything that's in the Start Menu\Settings folder goes in the "System" tab of Settings. Is there a way to move it to Personal or Connections?
Furthermore, there are other Control Panels, mostly 3rd party software, that are also not defined in the registry. Any control panel with a .cpl extension in the \Windows folder will ALSO go in the System tab. I'm trying to figure out how to move them as well.
Finally, does anyone know how to define a new icon for these Control Panels? If a control panel is defined in the HKLM\ControlPanel registry key, you can, in general, create a corresponding link in HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\Settings and add the icon to the Control Panel's key. But, if it's NOT already in the ControlPanel key, does anyone know how to add it to the Start key? I don't know how you're supposed to define it in the first place.
I've looked all over the web for any of the above information, but, so far, I've been stymied! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Based on the name of this thread, I think you'll have to create a different one! Seriously, while the basic structure is the same, there are enough differences to warrant a different discussion.
For example, WM6.5 uses an entire registry tree to define icons, while WM6 and earlier use the icon.lnk method. There's absolutely no overlap there, although I suspect the structure of the Control Panel tree is the same.
