Hello,
I have noticed something odd on my TyTN (latest official European firmware). I have set up a connection that uses a bluetooth modem (my other cell phone, as this has a different data subscription).
New, when the internet connection is made, a ballon message pops up. But sometime (oddly enough, not always), the antenna strength indicator is animated and shows a 3G connection. I can verify that the TyTN is NOT using its own dataconnection, but is really connecting via bluetooth as it should and using that connection. Also, in connection manager, the button "data" has become active (but pressing it simply makes it go to unavailable, it doesn't disconnect).
Is there any reason for this behaviour?
(it also occurs when connection to my other phone using IR)

Once setting up Wifi, I cannot make my data connection work.
I know it is set up and working properly because Weather and Stock Tabs are updating fine, but all other programs cannot use data connectioin (e.g. error response in Opera, Mail, etc)
I have set up in Connection according to Internet and Company (not sure how this is called in English) but it does not work.
Does anyone have similar problems? And how do i fix this?
can we have some more info?
What happens if you turn the phone connection off in comms manager, but leave the wifi connection on?
What error are you getting?
Is your wifi router set to block any particular type of traffic?
With wifi it works fine, just my 3g data connection does not work.
i have tried numerous settings, changed, deleted, softresetted. nothing can make my HD connect through 3G
H(sdpa) and E(dge) symbols appear next to connection strength which signalizes it is connected after i switch data connection on. but whatever program i try to connect, all give me errors. i assume they keep trying to connect with either wifi or something else.
there were some times where i could update stocks and weather tab, but at same time opera, msn, google maps, etc. all gave me connection errors (could not connect etc.)
sometimes it appears when i delete an entry, it re-appears again. maybe i have to do hard-reset if there is no solution at all.
Get your network to send you a config text with the settings. Also have they activated hsdpa for your account?
sure i tried that all. also tested other prepaid cards (vodafone, o2), with all of them the problem appears to be the same. they all work on my old phone, just not on HD.
im afraid only a hardreset will help.
what happens if you turn wifi off via comms manager (making sure phone connection is still turned on)
does it update weather / stock then?
PS which mobile company are you with, and in what country?
I have a similar problem.
But in my case it often helps to disconnect the 3G connection and reconnect. In most cases Opera can then load the desired page.
Network is O2 Germany.
Hi everyone...
I have an odd problem with my ToucH HD data connection. Usually it happens by the end of the day.
When I arrive home, I disconnect HDSPA/3G and connect Wifi because my data plan comprises only 100Mb per month.
At the end of the night I disconnect Wifi and connect hSDPA/3G again, but the connection goes crazy.
Usually the weather widget still works (at first), but no other app that needs web connection. No Opera, no MSN, no mail... everything with connection error. Then even the weather widget too...
In the commManager the DataConnection is active and when i click on the H on top of the screen i can see that HSDPA is connected and there is a time counter... counting. I've even tried the "Connection wizard" (i suppose it's its name, since my TouchHD is in portuguese), then a soft-reset, but nothing. Is stays the same apparently connected, but no application being able to connect the internet. Just as if some communication layer that serves the applications had been disconnected from the HSDPA network.
The only way I have to "solve" this problem is by doing a restore of an image i created while the HSDPA connection was working. But I suppose having to do this at least once a day does not seem to be a good remedy, at least in my humble opinion.
Do you have any suggestions? I'm running the latest HTC official ROM for Europe, release Apri 7th.
Thank you in advance.

I am a relatively new HD2 user (just a few weeks) and I need to ask other users to know what is "normal" with the HD2.
Brief background. My HD2 shipped with 1.48. I flashed to 1.66 via HSPL, used it for a couple of weeks of perfect normal function. No connection issues, but the 1.66 ROM lacks much over Dutty's HG v.08, so I flashed to Dutty's hard reset, and then my service provider began having problems with the data network.
I am not sure what is normal for connection. When I connect via EDGE, the "E" is solid, and there is a smaller "E" in the upper right of the notification area for connections. When I cannot connect the larger "E" is grayed out/dim and the area where the small "E" would be on connection is replaced with a standard connection tower icon. In this scenario, no connection takes place.
If I go to the Wireless controls, the "Data" connection is dimmed in this event, and if I try to connect, it will give me an attempt, with double arrows, and then fail. i assume this is normal when the network is not functioning properly?
I am on a mixed network, where some areas have 3G and others have only EDGE. Should I leave the 3G switch on "Automatic" (on) or should I stay on GSM?
Normally once I get connected, if I restart, or soft-reset, the connection will be lost, and I will have to go through the process again...after some minutes (10 or so) the phone will often connect to EDGE, with the large "E" and smaller "E" and I always have all the bars, so I am sure the signal is strong.
Is this just my network, or I am I doing something wrong?
Should my phone automatically connect to my data connection on startup?
I apologize If this seems rambling. I just do not know what is normal. Coming form Symbian, my other phones always connected to my data connection on startup without being asked to do so.
I want to rule out any possible ROM issues, because I do not THINK it is related to Dutty's ROM, because I have had it work normally sometimes. What do you think?
It won't connect by itself after a reboot, but it will as soon as a program tries to get something from the internet.
The "large" logo shows the connection is available, but not connected. Once the "small" logo appears, it's connected.

Click to collapse
In this case, is the large "E" gray in the notification area, with a small tower on the right side of it?
The solid E with tower is what I said, EDGE available but not connected. Now to the "grey" one... good question. I've seen it too, but when I do and try to connect it instantly becomes solid and connects.
Hi!
Does anyone have issues using the S200 as a 3G modem?
The specific problem I am having is as follows:
I can establish a connection (either via USB connection + Internet sharing; or by Wifi Router) and the internet works (on HSPA or EDGE/GPRS depending on coverage - and accordingly there is indication of "H" "E" or "G")
But sometimes the connection just dries up... on Windows, the icon that says I have a connection (the roundish one for USB, or the wifi single bars for Wifi) gets an exclamation bar which means "no internet"
If this happens, very rarely it fixes itself (I think this happens when the phone drops the internet connection after timeout for non-usage and is able to recover the connection; but I'm not sure). But sometimes the problem occurs even in the middle of a download...
And most of the time, I have to soft reset to restore connectivity (removing and reconnecting via USB, or stopping/starting WifiRouter doesn't help).
This could possibly be an issue with my provider (but, on regular 3G modems this problem hardly ever occurs at all; but happens generally at least 1/day with my phone) but I doubt it... I don't think it's an issue with a specific ROM because I've had this problem across many ROMs.
So, if anyone has any experiences to share it might be helpful to track down the problem...
Cheers

The issue I have is that I live in an area with minimal mobile coverage so have to rely on wi-fi connection when at home. Just today my HD2 has started acting up with an issue that I have experienced previously. When I try to update weather, stocks and other apps that require connectivity I get the error message about the dial-up modem being disconnected - the cause is fine as I have no signal but I don't understand why these apps are not swapping to the wi-fi connection. Browsing the internet is fine as is the YouTube app but all others (including email) are failing as they are trying to dial-up.
I have done some experimenting with mixed results:
1) If the phone radio is off (aerial followed by an x) - then the phone will fallback to wi-fi and applications that require connectivity seem to work.
2) If the phone radio is on and it is trying to find a signal (aerial with 3 dots cycling) then it will not issue the dial-up disconnected error - instead it will try to connect but then either time out (for apps like Omarket and Sky Mobile) or will work with mixed results (stocks and weather - although it only updates locations other than my location).
3) If the phone radio is on but there is no signal (aerial followed by exclamation mark) - then I get the dial-up disconnected error on apps that require connectivity (with the exception of Opera and YouTube).
Does anyone have any thoughts on what causes these inconsistencies and if there is a way to resolve them? When I had this issue before I did a hard reset which seemed to do the trick although with hindsight I am not entirely convinced whether it made any difference - especially if Apple's excuse for their iphone4 signal issue is to be believed (i.e. at times I could have a signal even though the phone is indicating that I do not have one).
I presume in the real world i.e. one where one has decent mobile coverage - this issue is unlikely to occur or certainly less obvious to spot
Hey,
If you set up your dial-up connection as part of your WiFi connection ( ISP or Work) and then set "programs that automatically connect to the internet" to the WiFi connection the automatic program will no longer try and connect if you are connected by WiFi.
go to settings-menu-all settings-connections-connections and add a new modem connection to your Work network. You need to get the settings from your service provider or copy them from the existing data connection.
once done, got to advanced and select networks and choose the work connection for programs that automatically connect.
that should help
m.
So in short I would have a single config that contains both the wifi and mobile settings as opposed to the two separate configs that I have at present. I will give that a crack and see what happens.
Thanks
