Why do Orange not sell the black M700 direct? - P3600 General

Having used the White M700 for the past 2 months on my personal contract, I decided to order the latest Black version (including camera flash) shown on the Orange Business website for my Business Contract.
Another White M700 arrived & when I complained to Orange they sent me a returns envelope for the phone as the Black M700 is exclusive to the Carphone Warehouse.
Orange have been very obstructive against moving to the Carphone Warehouse - moving the goalposts etc.
Today I have accepted another White M700 free, at a £10 per month discount & free Orangecare Insurance, as Orange are not supplying the Black version 'at present' AND (after checking with the testing/approval department) not for the forseeable future.
Other than the missing flash I think the Trinity is the best phone available for handling/performance.
What's wrong with the Black M700 with camera flash?
Does anyone on the forum have the version with flash?
Peter

Are you sure that the black M700 has a built-in flash? As far as I know its exactly the same unit as the white one.

Orange have wiped the Black M700 from their site; showing a similar camera to the M3100

I just shifted my M700 into a black case. Looks much better tbh
Pissed me off that they don't do the Black version.
Plus I was sold it as being GPS enabled which it wasn't until I did a radio rom flash.
When I spoke to them I was told it was not a feature they had anything to do with and they couldn't have sold me the phone with that as a feature.

Boo Hoo
Just be happy that you can buy this phone from a carrier at all, we have to buy them imported.

When did you buy yours?
ALL official Orange SPV M700's have had a GPS enabled ROM (Radio 1.30.00.11) except a very small number of 'demonstration, pre-release models' that had an older ROM.
As for features they have nothing to do with- another piece of Orange blarney. Orange France advertised and supplied GPS services from the start with the same hardware, and Orange UK include a GPS 'leaflet' in all M700 boxes (promoting their abysmal online GPS software)
Tomtooter: No SPV M700's (or other Trinity derivatives) have a Flash. Either the picture was photoshopped, or the published details were simply wrong!

Mine is official, late May model M700 and I had radio .00, not GPS enabled. It's possible that this radio ROM was flashed to unlock the phone, though.

Yes- using most free unlockers will flash the radio to an older version- probably why yours disabled the GPS

I upgraded to a Black phone from my old phone by going to Car phone warehouse. You cnnot upgrade to this phone though as you must take out a new contract. Thus, I did this:
1) left Orange with my old number through the MAC code
2) Ported this Mac code to an O2 Sim Card.
3) I bought the new Black SPV M700 from CPW.
4) After 10 days I requested the MAC code for transfering my old number back from O2.
5) I range Orange and transfered my old number back to my new phone.
This was a pain in the neck but I kept my number and "upgraded" to a black phone as I hated the white colour.
It seems crazy they only do white and black for everyone else as for business white looks terrible!!

o2 XDA II or Orange SPV M1000

New to all this so please be gentle.
Have decided to buy an Xda II (or similar) on a contract here in the UK. Can not decide between O2 and Orange, prices are similar although there appear to be some good web deals on Orange.
What do folk recommend? I have heard that Orange's M1000 can not be unlocked or the firm wear updated. Is this true? Are there any other differences? Do you get two batteries and other goodies with Orange?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

go with orange
you do get 2 batterys and a screen protector and 24 hour repacement if it is lost or dammaged or stolen for only £5 a month.
i am on my 3rd unit as the rom upgrade failed twice and they have swapped it no questions asked.
orange customer services is also free so any problems dont cost you a penny in calls unlike o2
go with orange mate!
SPV M2000 released today on Orange
Bah,
I've just decided I can afford an SPV (£100 with a £30 contract). I knew there would likely be the new model out soon since the price has dropped so much. How much do you think you could get the new M2000 for with a new contract?
I've ordered my M1000 but have 2 weeks to return it if I don't want it

The SPV M2000 is due out in October/November 2004. The nice new feature is Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition. I don't think I would rate the Qwerty keyboard that much unless you have really small child-like fingers. I perhaps to use the stylus for text entry. Then again if I had one I would probably think different!

oragne = blocked software

hi,
i was just about ready to order an i-mate jamin from expansys when i saw the orange is planning to propose the htc proophet in france.
this is good news, because i am a long-time orange customer and i hope that they will cut me a break on the price.
on the other hand, is there a risk that orange will sell me a htc prophet with blocked rom, or with silly orange funcrions that i can not get rid of ? i would really hate to get a great phone to find out it is crippled...
on a related note, is there any other factors that can make the difference in a htc prophet from i-mate, qtek, o2, or orange. thanks for any help,
scott

It's possible to get rid of the T-Mobile software on the MDA Compact so Orange may be no different.
You can always install a new ROM.

when on 02?

I'am looking to get this on 02... any ideas when its out?
As orange are sold out
Talk to Orange and ask them to put you on a prepurchase list, I did heh, there has been no announcement from O2 as to the release of the TyTn but I read on theregister that O2 had had a falling out with HTC and possibly wouldn't be releasing any more of them. Though, as with all news of that type, it could be wrong as O2 have to be a reasonably major customer of HTC
i like 02 as they dont brand the phone, and to buy offline is crazy!

It's not coming out on o2
Well, I'm sure Buzz and the team will work out an unlock for it sometime, and also someone will come up with unbranded roms, besides, just look at the branding on the HTC Universal / XDA Exec as it ships from O2 lol you CAN turn the orange branding options off (apart from the orange logo on the case lol)
Just a point on unbranding. I have an Orange M3100 and got a T-Mobile VarioII. the VarioII doesn't have any button to the top left of the D pad whereas on the M3100 it's a video call button which I believe can be re-assigned to other apps.
No sure which other operators are doing this, if any.
Just a point to those who might want to re-brand and 'play' with the device.
Gav.

Where to buy a White Trinity?

Hi
I just sold my TyTN, and want to upgrade to a Trinity, its smaller, and has a GPS which I will need.
However, I have this "strange" urge to only get the White one. I live in Hungary, and there are no White ones available. Can I order one from somewhere? I will also visit Hong Kong this coming September, and also Mainland China, can I fetch one from there?
Any suggestions are welcome,
Thanks
Ben
Well, the white is a good choice, also because it's not affected by the paint peeling syndrome.
Unlike the black one, the color doesn't seem to be past on the plastic but, to be the original color of the plastic itself. Therefore, after 3 months of use, there isn't even a scratch on it.
When I bought mine, beginning of june, I wanted a black one, but there wasn't any available where I live.
I took the white one and now I've heard about this paint problem, I feel lucky I did.
Don't know where in Asia or Hungary you can find a white one.
In France (and maybe in other European country where they are present) Orange is distributing only white phones.
I got mine from Orange but in south America, so it's not Orange M700 style, but just a plain HTC P3600 one, white.

Hi
Thanks a lot. That makes me feel I want the white one even more
Can I obtain one from some sort of an online auction, or other online means?
What is the difference between lets say the Orange M700 and plain HTC P3600?
Thanks a lot
Ben
Hi
I found many M700s on ebay. I will try to obtain one.
unlocking one is not so trivial, I guess.
Any other places I could get one from? Maybe Asia?
Thanks
Ben
Maybe at Dopod's

As you already found out, the M700 is SIM-locked on the Orange network, and has some customizations and settings for Orange network and services.
Yes, you can always use some paid services or some 'unnofficial' applications to SIM-unlock your M700. The latters are free, but more risky.

Yes, on the Trinity, the SIM-unlock process, according to users feed-backs doesn't seem to be a big deal. I don't know myself, since mine wasn't SIM-locked, despite I got it from Orange. Their policy in South-America is more flexible.
As far as Asia is concerned, I don't know which operator sells white trinities.
CHT (Taiwanese) seems to sell (only?) black ones. Maybe you can try Dopod 810 in Hong Kong, which is SIM-locked like the M700.
But at least, you'll get WM6 ROM already on it. As Dopod users are the only ones who got WM6 upgrade officially.
Regards
White Trinity

Hi
Thanks, wow, wish I had found it earlier, I just got a locked one from Ebay UK. Anyways, thanks a lot for the info, and perhaps I am better off from the UK then from the US for the simple fact that I dont pay any import taxes.

I bought an Orange SPV M700 off Ebay the other day...Unlocked it and have spent ages trying to find a WM6 upgrade for it....Entered various sites but they will not accept S/N...This is driving me nuts....I even can't find out how to register the phone (not the sim)with Orange...Does all this mean I will have to wait for Orange to get it's act together?????

Hi,
I think you can just upgrade any WM6 you wish to use. You may need to unlock the CID as well, did you?
I will start my phone with Unlocking it all, and upgrade to Dopod WM6. I am a bit afraid of cooked ROMs, as I am a rookie at this still

Hi,
As I dont have the phone yet, I am only speaking from what I read here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Trinity
And this is specific to the unlocking process:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_SimUnlock
And then you choose a ROM from here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades
And upgrade. As to tell you what CID is, I am not sure, but more experienced people refer to a phone which is unlocked for new ROMs as SuperCID.
If I wanted to give my best shot at guessing, this is what I would presume:
There is a SIM lock, and a CID lock. The SIM lock is obvious, prohibits you from inserting a Foreign SIM card to your original provider, in this case Orange.
CID is a lock that only allows HTC or ORANGE signed ROMs to be uploaded to the phone. One you unlock CID, you can upload any Cooked, or other but official ROMs. Like I said, I will choose the Dopod ROM, which supposed to be Official, but I am not sure Orange locked phones will allow that at all.
I (we I think) would be very much grateful for someone who could explain this in detail, and correct my mistakes above, as I assume I have a few.
Cheers
Ben
just for the info...
actually around asia the white trinity/dopod D810/HTC P3600 is a limited edition. It cost a little bit more than the black 1. And it is introduced a few months later after the 1st launching of the black one. i am not sure whether they still have in on asia market. As i was told, it was only sold on the market just for a few months. and i agreed the white ones is better than the black. especially for the bottom part of the casing. the chrome grey color, will tend to peel off easily.
just an info for u ..

What's wrong with the HTC HD locked to Orange UK??

Greetings to you all.
THis is my first post here, and I would appreciate any help.
I am considering buying an HTC touch HD from eBay. I found that the cheapest ones are those listed in eBay.co.uk, and locked to Orange UK. However, the price difference compared to the phones which are factory unlocked made me think whether there is something wrong with the Orange UK phones.
To be specific, I have two questions:
1- Do Orange UK HTC-HD phones have different specs compared to other HTC-HD phones?
2- Are Orange UK HTC-HD phones guaranteed to be unlockable? If yes, could they be re-locked again after a ROM upgrade? will they work (after unlocking) on all GSM networks worldwide?
Again, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.
To Orange or not to Orange!

1- I believe the Orange hardware specs are exactly the same. It's just the ROM/software that they play with.
2- Every phone should be SIM unlockable. I have seen many reports in this forum that they can be. You can easily replace an Orangised ROM with a cooked one or WWE stock ROM to remove any unwanted Orange stuff.... all you'll be left with is the little orange logo on the back. There is no need to SIM unlock the phone to upgrade the ROM. Check out the HSPL / USPL threads to see what must be done and how easy it is to ROM upgrade.
I have an Orange HD (still locked) running the non Orange HK 1.19 ROM
I have a Orange handset, i use orange so im not bothered about simunlock, ive removed the orange software and put Duttys 1.7 on at moment.
i believe there are a few vendors that can provide guaranteed (or your money back) unlock codes for around 18euros
I've had an Orange Touch HD for almost two weeks now and it seems fine. I flashed it with Duttys ROM and that improved things like RAM usage and stuff, but added its own little annoyances.
Go with the Orange, you wont regret it!!
I have an orange sim locked one... but as I am an orange customer I am happy.
Dutty's v1.7 rom is the current flavour.
Thank you all for your quick response. this will definitely help me out ...
One last question before I actually make a bid: Has anyone unlocked his/her Orange Touch-HD phone and used it on a different network outside UK?
Bought a HD ORANGE (UK) on ebay, unlocked it with code (htccode) and now im usin it in slovenia
Thank you so much
I will start bidding.. will let you know if anything went wrong!
I bought an Orange one from eBay a few weeks ago. Got it for £370 with a Best Offer. I had previously won another one which was described as 'brand new in box' but had a scratched screen and obvious signs of use!
Make sure you get what you payed for!! I had to do a PayPal dispute as this person was adamant they hadn't used it... despite the pouch being fluffy, the earphones having the furry covers on, and various scratches! Needless to say, they had it back on eBay as BNIB the next day again!
Anyway - my second one arrived still with the original screen warning protector, and I got a best offer on the unlock code on eBay for £14. The code came through within a few hours, and I typed it in twice and it worked perfectly. I then updated the ROM to Dutty's - as the Orange one was a bit naff - and stuck in my O2 SIM card! As with Dutty's ROMs on my old Diamond, it instantly knew it was an O2 SIM I'd put in, and asked me if I wanted to install the settings - which I did. A simple soft reset and my WAP / MMS settings etc were all sorted!
Orange phones are definately the cheapest, as people are taking them as a free upgrade and selling them on - because they're probably the phone thats worth the most at the moment!! The only downer is the naff Orange logo on the back cover which won't come off no matter what I scrubb it with! Their old ones wiped clean with some label remover or paint stripper
Can someone please take a picture of the Orange logo on the back? How big and gawdy is it?
i dont really like the orange logo on this one either, since the back cover is the same microsatin finish as the touch dual i had, its not gonna be possible to remove it.
its not very big, but a sudden orange square kind of spoils the "blackness" of the device.
im assuming there is no free unlock solution yet....
anyone know the cheapest place to get it unlocked? if its on ebay, could you give a link to the seller? im a bit cautious cos i've had some dodgy ones in the past thanks!
Orange HD Upgrade
I got my HD free as an Orange upgrade through mobiles.co.uk this week. Was very happy to find that Orange had not been let near this phone. Haven't even got the silly logo on the back and it's unlocked. I think they get them direct from HTC.

It's 1cm square or 1 square cm!
Damn....looks like I'll be looking for an un-branded phone then....
cant u just buy a new back cover off ebay and get rid of the logo that way?
My orange logo is less than 7mm squared!
I bought a replacement battery cover from eBay about a week ago, and it just arrived the other day. It was an 'original htc HD cover' from Hong Kong for £15.
It certainly looks original, and all the stuff inside is the same - but its missing the volume buttons, the power button, and the speaker grill bit. It also comes with the camera cover as a seperate bit you need to glue on!
A waste of £15 if you ask me - unless I can send it back to Hong Kong (which will probably cost me heaps anyway!!)
I got a fairly good deal with mine on Orange (£20 /month 500min, 100txt 3 magic numbers and phone for £95) so i dont see anything wrong with buying from orange. The phone works fine and specs are the same.
I have a Orange HTC HD as well...not anymore, new ROM(original HTC) and new HTC battery cover from expansys.com. Works fine...I'm on O2, I hate Orange very much gf using orange, poor customer service and poor reception, I give them a F with a - as a Mobile Network Provider.
My baby HD works and looks great after I got it back to the original HTC look thanks to the guys at xda-developers.com
See pic of Orange logo on the back of the phone, you also get a I must admit nice Orange splash screen which I removed when installed my new original HTC ROM678
Thanks for the photo. I'd rather do without the orange logo if I had a choice.
I'm currently looking for one, but all the UK sellers require a verified UK paypal address, which I don't have. I have a UK Aramex address, but of course it's not verified since I'm abroad.
Just buy the battery cover HTC original after you buy your phone. I think I payed for mine £23. Looksa good, from HTC or expansys.com.
GL!!
