Screen Repair - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I am so annoyed with myself.
I've had my Exec now for just over a year. But to be honest, there has been nothing else that takes my fancy.
Anyway, over the weekend whilst camping I put my mobile down in the back of the car. I was then movin stuff around, and accidently put a gas bottle on top of the screen. I now can't see anything when I switch it on, and can see a mark at the top when switched off.
To be honest, the screen was feeling a little loose anyway. Is it possible to just unscrew the top and screw on a new screen, or can anybody do screen repairs?
Or is there something similar that might be worth getting in replacement? New XDA for example or maybe Ipaq?

unscrew the top and screw on a new screen.in indonesia it will cost u 2.300.000 rupiahs.or u can do it at srvice centre.

Well, I found a company who have replaced the screen. But the display rolls if the case is shut so has to be left sticking up. They say that the "top board" is damaged and the pressure causes the problem, but they say they are struggling to source a replacement board.
Replacement screen = £100
Replacement board = ????
Starting to sound like better buying a 2nd hand one from eBay!

Take it into one of the carphonewarehouse service centres and see what they say, their standard repair charge is £40

Dude i had the same prob with my exec. a repair shop quoted around 12000 Rs ie:146 Pounds, so i cancelled ma plans of repairing it. But after waisting sum time on ebay i finally got a Screen for 60Pounds n got it fixed for only around 3 pounds. n It works like new.
So i think u betta buy it from ebay.

After reading your post in a forum based on the installation of an IMate JasJar screen, I see you concluded your post by saying the job of replacing the screen was "easy". How much time did it take to make this repair.
Thanks,
John

You can pick up a replacement screen/touchscreen for between £50 and £70 on eBay. Replacing is a straightforward affair. Just follow the instructions in the service manual (you'll find it in the forums if you do a search) and should take approx 20 minutes.

Just for your comparison:
My screen was broken. The qtek service in the Netherlands asked 250 euros..
I was planning to go to China (Shanghai) anyways, so I waited and had a new screen + repair for 120 euros... I'm happy!

I cracked my screen!! :-((

HELP!!!!!
Yesterday I was foolishly playing around with my MDA Vario and it fell from my hands...onto the hard floor. Now the display is cracked (mind you, NOT the LCD!!!!!Just the glasstop, digitizer, lense or whatever you call it). It still works perfectly but when I press with the stylus over the crack it just freaks out. End of the day: I can use it but I can't play with it. I spent AGES googling for a solution but apparently all I can find is LCD replacements (which actually DO include the screen...but cost 3 times asmuch). Anybody can help? please.........I'm desperate!

What a bummer!
HTC europe and usa are selling parts give them a call and see if any joy
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49361
and here http://www.htceurope.com/uk/
Ouch! I'd be kicking myself if that happened to me!
Hope it won't cost too much get it repaired
PS. Doesn't your Olympus C150/D390 have an upclose (or "Flower") mode? You'll be able to get clearer shots if you select it.
Got it repaired!!!!!!!For "only" 70 pounds... I went to a shop in South Wimbledon and they made it on the spot for me. As a matter of fact they changed my LCD too (they tried to put just the display but apparently there was a "ribbon color" problem). Nevertheless, I got my UNbroken LCD back as well, so now I'll try to sell it and make a bit of money (7o quids for a piece of glass is a bit toomuch, uh?).
Considering that after HOURS of research I had found nothing better than a 169 euro full repair (LCD+glasstop) -in Germany...- I reckon the £70 was not a rip off anyway. I missed a beat when I saw that crack yesterday, and I swore to myself I'd get my baby back in action...with less than 100 pounds. Mission accomplished ;-)
If any of you guys (AND I DO HOPE YOU DON'T) breaks JUST the LCD (but not the glasstop), let me know and we can work out a nice price for both you and me (I have a spare LCD now...And if you read till here you might be in need of one!).
my e-mail [email protected]
p.s. Thanx to the forum I found answers to ALL my queries...but how comes NOBODY before me broke his glasstop?!?Am I the only silly one who made it?? ;-(
ciao guys and thanx for your help anyway (btw: htc europe was USELESS and no, I have no little flower on my girlfreind's sad OLYMPUS camera!)
cracking and hacking are forbidden here in this site, so please dont crack your screen again
70 pounds are really tooooooooo much for a broken peice of glass, but what else can you do? you have to buy it!!! any way, congratulations you have solved the issue finally.

Sorry for your sceen!
Were did you find you "emule" skin?
Thanks
Seb.
I took my phone back to O2, I had no insurance, so i was expecting to have to pay to get it repaired (the girl behind the counter looked at me like i was insane to try and get it fixed "It'll be sooo expensive").
However when I went to pick it up a few days later, they gave me a new one, with new battery, earphones, stylus etc... for free!
The receipt simply said "unrepairable".
You have a great service in europe, I live in an arab country, once you crack your screen here they will say " you have broken your screen to get a new one, but you will never!!!" then they take your mobile to fix it, you wait for 24 months, then they say that they cant find the mobile, so they give you brand-used siemens A-35 mobile instead of the mini s, saying that "they have almost the same features. either accept it or go and kill yourself"
Thats how our companies deal with us!!!
Thank god, you live in europe!!!

Are you in jordan? I cracked, no better yet SMASHEd, the screen on my 9500 about a year ago when i was on summer vacation in Saudi Arabia. I took it to the warranty repair center and i just had to convince them that it was an accident. They gave the device to a very talented philipino guy sitting in a little cubicle, 15 min later, had my device with a new screen. 30 minutes later had traded in the 9500 for a I-Mate Jam(my first windows mobile device).

You are completely right, but do you know why did they do that with you? because you are not arabic guy, you are american. Lets be fair, the service in Saudi arabia is a bit better than the service in jordan, but when an arabic company deals with an arabic customer that cracked his screen, they will crack his head and kick him out of the company office.
Ofcourse, our companies are not as bad as I describe, but it will never happen that you crack your screen and they simply give you a new phone with a new battery, because they feel that they will look stupid.
Thats how our companies deal with us!!!
Hey guys...
Now that my problem is sorted out I am putting the LCD on e-bay.
If u r reading this thread I believe you might want to get your hands on it so here it is:

where can I buy a screen for the Cingular 8125????
Hi. I called the HTC parts number listed above and they say they do not see the LCD screens, but only repair them. I have looked online and can only find 1 site that sells the LCD for the HTC 8125 (www.pdasmart.com) but they charge more for the part than it costs to send the phone in to get repaired!!!!
So far the cheapest way to to replace my screen is to pay $169 and send it in. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to replace my screen???

I presume we are the $169 site that you found. You can also order just the part and receive a 10% discount on the part. There is no warranty when purchasing the part only though. Simply put "part only - 10% no warranty" in the special instructions field of the order.

I STOOD ON MY XDA EXEC :: Q's about insurance

Hi I have looked on the forums and have found a bit about phone insurance. I stood on my XDA exec ( I know what a c**k) its knackered. The screen has popped the silver bit on the back has come up in one corner and the flip / rotate mech snapped so the screen flaps about in the wind.
Yes I was drunk
Yes I am stupid
Yes I have made a claim.
I have sent it in today to LSG (lloyds tsb phone insurnace). From looking at other web sites my concerns are as follows :-
1) They will not be able to get the parts to repair the exec.
2) If they replace my phone they will not be able to get an O2 one (I know the imate is the same but I like it in black).
From what I have read elsewhere people have had a real issue getting top of the range PDA's fixed (unless its by the network insurance when they mostly get new ones) Most of the time people get offerd a cash settlement.
Has anyone else claimed through Lloyds phone insurance or any other 3rd party insurance and got a replacement phone ?
If they want to settle for a cash sum. How much should it be ??
any help on this would be good ???
Have edited my first post to be more specific. Anyone ??
here is the answer to anyone who is interested. they tried to get me to take a nokia n91 or n80. I said no.
told them I wanted an exec or the cash. after about 10mins of holding ect I got a supervisor who tried to tell me how good the 91 was. I still said the same. put on hold again.
they came back on and said your exec is in the post.
here's the deal. full new boxed o2 xda exec.
I got my first on in feb 05. this one feels much more solid. the screen flip is much tighter it has come with new rom installed. seams faster.
phone signal is better.
the whole unit seams much more soild than the first one??
could it have been that my first unit was a recon ?
anyway very happy
It seams I spoke to soon. The screen has started to flicker (brown lines jumping all over the place) this is very random but the unit has done it about 5 times now.
It will have to go back.
Can I ask for Cash instead of a new phone ??
Phoned them. Sending it back.
Will make me a cash offer when the get the phone back.
Think im going to go back to Ipaq. Had nothing but problems with this phone.
Hi I have just had my claim paid up by the same insurance (lloyds bank) They told me they do not have any xda replacements and would either give me a nokia n91 or cash settlement I went for the cash they paid me £450 for a xda IIs (ba) £450 is the maximum they pay out so you would more than likely get the same.
I have been informed by a supervisor today that the max they will pay out is £600. They use GSMarena.com to price up what they pay out. Universal costs around 550 - 650 GBP depending on where you look.
The girl on the phone said they will price it on the day the get the damaged one they sent me back. They have 3 suppliers (she would not name them) and they take the average as the units value. I would think they then knock a bit off.
I expect at least £500.
andytl
How quickly did they pay you. I have read on other sites it takes them ages to sort it out.
If you look on there website it states a maximum figure of £450 I doubt they will go over it.
I am a platinum account holder and should be covered up to 600 GPB
We will see I will post when I find out.
Lloyds TSB insurance
Hi!
I've claimed for 2 Xda2i machines that I lost via lloyds TSB insurance which is part of my gold account. each time they've been great at sorting things out for me.
My last claim they informed me they had no replacements and so like others have already mentioned, went for the cash settlement. They paid me £450.
You can only claim twice in every yearly period so I've used up my 'allocation' as it were! I'll ring them next to see when I'm allowed to claim again if needs be. To minimise my risk, I've started carrying my phones in aluminium cases, in my pocket where they cannot fall out and get lost/broke screens again !
I recommend lloyds tsb insurance via lifestyle services group - quick hassle free insurance !
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!!
Well got the call today. £569.00 offered and taken.
Going to jump ship to ipaq hw6915 here I come.
Ill no doubt be back.

Cracked Screen Advice needed Please

Hi i have had my M5000 for ages now and i thought that i was always careful of it, untill i got sloppy and and it in my pocket while moving PC's around. To my horror i found that i had cracked the screen quite bad, the touch screen still works over the cracked LCD.
I checked my insurance and its gonna cost me like £45 excess to get it repaired, I know this isn't much compared to the price of a new phone but i was wondering:
Does anyone have or know of a cheap replacment screen i could buy instead of claiming on insurance (because i know if i send it for repair on the insurance then im not gonna had the phone for 2weeks at least, where i can just replace the screen in an evening).
Thank you for any help and advice in advance
Hi,
Just had an MDA Pro screen replaced by these chaps in Wimbledon:
http://www.xdarepairs.co.uk
Cost quoted was about £110 +VAT + Postage fitted, or £90 +VAT for the part on its own. All in, the screen, including fitting, was not much more than the screen on its own from ebay.
Posted to them on Tuesday at 16:45 and received back on Thursday at 08:45. Working beautifully again.
Not had any luck finding a screen cheaper than this
May be worth trying to see if insurance can get screen repaired through them, as it only took 40 hours from posting it to getting it back again.
Brilliant, Thank you for your reply, i will suggest that to the insurance when i phone them for the refit.
Thanks

Broken screen

Damnit - I dropped my v1605 and it landed squarely screen first. Resultant damage is some minor scratching to one corner, a small dent in the lower right metal trim and.... a cracked screen Only 2 months old too.
Anyway - replacement has been sourced but this leaves me with a question about what to do with the original. I know it still works - I can still sync it to my computer and as I did not go through insurance or decalre it lost it has not been barred.
I figure there are two options - sell it as is for someone in the trade to refurbish and sell on or repair it myself and then sell it on. Refurbs are fetching £360+ on ebay still and other than the screen/scratches it is undamaged.
So - anyone know how much a new screen will cost?
Rich
Took it into the local Vodafone store today to see how much a repair will cost. They have optimistically quoted £40 - I'll believe it when it comes to paying the bill - due back on Fri 13th
R
I guess the screen is the same one used for the s100/jam. 2.8"/65K. About one year ago they asked me 200 euros to repair it. I bought one in Hong Kong and replaced it by myself for 80 euros. Right now I think you can even find something cheaper

Trinity with dead screen

I have a Trinity with a "dead" screen. Well, not quite dead, in a special angel I can se contures of the screen, and that it reacts to buttons. the phone itself is not dead, it recieves calls, and I can speak with the caller.
Service shop claims water/moist damage, and wouldnt even bother to repair it.
Is it worth trying to replace the screen?
Other suggestions?
HPN
If you are savvy enough, you can try buy a spare part and install it yourself. Should be well below 100 bucks.

I just replaced the screen myself, and it works perfect.
Nokia N95 or SE P1i? Tried both in this period. No thanks.
I did replace my broken screen too : really easy to do and very cheap too. I paid ~20$ for the replacement screen and got it approx. 1 week after ordering it online !
Could you tell us where did you buy it from? Just in case...
First of all, I followed the doc in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311463 to dissassemble the Trinity.
I bought my spare parts from Cellular Nationwide Network (http://cnn.cn/) : cheap and very quick delivery directly from Hong Kong.
Good day to everyone
20 bucks is really a big big bargain. The cnn site actually says $47.99.
http://cnn.cn/shop/3600dopod-d810-screen-p-1734.html
You must have special relationship with them
Oups, my mistake : yes it's 48$... but still cheap regarding a machine sent back to HTC for repair, I think...
