so i got the t-mo wing a week ago. so far no complaints, but i do have a BUNDLE of questions. but i'll just ask them one at a time. most pressing question at the moment- i would like to change the sliding keyboard sound the the sound a Tansformer makes when it transforms... its nerdy, but funny. i have the sound clip (*.mp3) but i dont know what i need to integrate it into the list of options to choose for the sliding keyboard sound.
any kind of answer is acceptable, including "youre stupid, follow this link" but im just lookin for some info- thnx!

wow, what a loser i am, everything i needed was right in that post, including my non original idea of using the transformers sound... THNX!
ok, so about that whole sliding sound thing... i followed those directions to the T, i checked, and double checked everything, but no matter what i did, i didnt see a 4th option (my custom option. so i changed it MY way, and opened up the activeslidingsound decimal value from 0 to 3 (which represents my custom sound. it works, i can hear my custom sound when i slide it open or close my device, HOWEVER i just dont see the option in the sliding sound menu. any idea's? however, another thing that i noticed is that my keyboard doesnt light up anymore.

Hi, wonder if anybody has a way to get rid of the keyboard clicking sound on the Universal?
It would be so far better when use in quiet meetings. I was looking at the sound setting but didn't find anything there. Want to check to see if there is any registry heck or other ways to fix this.
Thanks!
go to settings->sounds
disable there the checkbox for the hardware buttons
This is strange as the hardware botton box was never ticked in the first place... I tried tick and untick and softreset it but it does not seem to work. The keyboard clicking sound still there...
Any further advice please?
The keys have a mechanical click sound built in - very difficult to get rid of.
On a similar subject - anyone know how to turn off the clicks that happen when you use the start menu?
sounds and notifications - uncheck 'Events (warnings, system events) I'm not sure what all else you lose, but it turns off what you wanted.
Thank you.
It would be so nice to have a seperate volume level for sms and system sounds.
It really is bad to have them put into one volume setting.
Developers... any ideas? Calling Vijay/Buzz... and other smart PPC devs?
the clicks are mechanical , you can't get rid of them,
a trade off between membrane and swith activated keyboards,
although more noisy, the switch activated responseivness is better
cheers
C
Thanks all for your responses. Looks like I'll need to explore other input methods during quiet meetings...
Hi Guys
Another basic question here. I can see how I can set the phone to ring, how to set it to vibrate, and how to make it be totally silent. My question is, can you make the phone ring AND vibrate for an incoming call? When I select ring in the control panel, it makes the vibrate option vanish. Please tell me this is possible!
Regards,
Andrew
In Settings/Personal/Sounds & Notifications you hit the notifications tab at the bottom.
Under 'Event', choose "Phone: Incoming call"
Under 'Type', choose "Vibrate and ring" or "Vibrate then ring"
You can also do all this in Settings/Personal/Phone.. first tab..
I reccomend exploring your phone before asking something like this. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but you could have found this extreamly easily just by looking at all the options you can choose from in the settings window/list.
Thank you very much v1rone. Don't worry, no offense taken.
I have been looking for this feature for a while now and didn't post as a first resort. This phone is just so different from my last one (SE P990) that it's taking me a while to get to grips with it. I had seen that screen before, but for some reason, I didn't notice that middle drop down and saw vibrate as a tick box for all the other things in the top drop down so I assumed it wasn't possible for phone calls.
Anyway, it's all sorted now, thank you very much for your guidance.
BTW, when clicking on the "notifications" tab at the bottom, it takes ages for the tab to come up. This has only been since I upgraded to the new R2 firmware. On the older R1 firmware, it still took a while, but not nearly as long as it does now. Just thought I'd mention it.
Yeah, mine does the same thing when trying to get into that tab. Not sure what the deal is there.
I haven't flashed any of the new R2 roms yet. It's possible that the R2 versions have more files in the windows folder, causing this application to take longer when seeking out all the settings it needs to display it's window. Not sure..
I have absolutely zero evidence to backup this statement seeing that I haven't peeked into the updated rom files yet, but who knows
Sounds plausible
on another note, any way to make the X1i ring and vibrate in a sane manner . . . the vibration is sort of insane lol
anyone know of any app/program to control this?
thanks

Try VAlert, cab should be somewhere on these forums.
Opening the phone interface there are a number of numbers visible that I've recently dialed.
Some numbers even show what type of number (car, mobile, home work) was dialed by using "<c>" as in indicator.
Intuitive I press and hold one of the last dialed numbers, hoping for an option menu, but nothing happens, only to have this number dialed on release.
This must be a nuiscance to more people than just me.
Is there a solution, or even a better dialer program, so I can exchange this one?
you know how the <txt> or w/e is surrounded by left/right arrows/brackets (<>)? That's to indicate you can swipe your finger (left or right) to cycle through the different options (much better and easier implementation than 'holding' down for the change I think).
Hope it helps
I agree. the standard dialer drove me mad as well. Almost returned the device.
It was especially annoying, because I borrowed a WiMo from a friend first, and I liked the dialer.
The solution: Disable the phone skin, go back to the WiMo dailer.
Many utilities can do this, amoung others: Advanced Config V3.3, HD Tweak, etc. Just disable the phone skin.

just in case: the wm6.1 standard dialer makes you lose the bt status icon in the top bar as well as the in-call volume-control! (but there is a somewhere a thread with a cab to fix that last issue)

Are you sure? Because I they are both still working for me, and I do not recall having to fix it?
The only thing that is missing for me is Video-Calling, though it can still be done from the menu.

strange... for me these two things are the side-effect of going back to the wm6.1 standard dialer, and other users (in another post somewhere) have confirmed that... so just feel lucky that that did't happen to you (but you are sure that you don't have these issues? when bluetooth is switched on, you still get an icon in the top bar, and when you make a call, you can change the volume of the 'person on the other side' with the volume keys (not system or ring volume)?)... so, just feel lucky, no idea why some people have it, some people don't... it's just a warning, but worth a try anyway, as the setting can easily be changed back....
regards jan
In retrospect, you are probably right.
I do have a "bluetooth" icon in my WiMo dialer, but it is in fact my headset icon, probably not the icon you refer to. And in fact, the headset is the one I want, so I do not care about any more base-bluetooth icon
And I rarely set set the volume, but when, I do that by the via the headset also, which also works....
Well as the topic says..
How to remove the dialpad sound when typing a phonenumber? Such an annoying sound!
Yeah, I'd like to know that too!
I thought that i still had this issue but when I just checked (all my phone calls recently have been to contacts so I have not needed to use the keypad on the phone app) I don't have keypad sounds. I can only find options for screen taps which will switch on or off a click but I can't find anything to do with the tone whch I used to have with the dial pad. I can't remeber hearing the tones since I installed SIM Contacts radio update. Not that I'm saying this is related. Sorry for the ramblings, I can't help
Ah, I think that I must have gone to Settings, clicked Menu the All Settings, Personal then Phone and slected Off in the Keypad section. There is also the option there to change between long and short tones.
settings/personal/phone then select keypad off
doh! didnt see the post above mine lol.
Oh my god, this was driving me crazy last night.
I knew I'd set it before but had done a hard reset and coudn't for the life of me remember where I'd seen it.
WinMo has a habit of hiding settings you know you've seen before.
After installing the update from TMO, The little bar that flips between mail, home, internet, images, music, etc. "shrinks" into a little black tab in the middle of my screen at the bottom.
This is super super annoying because it takes an extra effort to click on the damn thing and then slide my finger to scroll. This also requires a second tap on the screen when i go to browser because the first one simply 'collapses' the little thing and the second one will actually respond to the internet icon you're tapping on.
Tell me there's a way to turn off the collapse of this stupid thing. I tried looking on here but I don't know what keywords to use to search this out. Something like 'htc sense update hd2 registry change' yields nothing.
TIA

It sounds to me like you have cookies home tab enabled?! That is strange are you sure you didn't flash to a custom rom?! I have that one my phone and I have the update but the only way I was able to get that was with CHT. I have attached examples.
Yep! I do have cookies home tab installed! Dang..so is the setting in that to change it? :bangs head:
I'll take a look.
WTHAT A MORON. Thats its. The 'retractable slider' setting. I can't believe I didn't realize that was cookie and not HTC.
Thanks a million for pushing me in the right direction.
Awesome! Glad I could help! I had that enable for a while but it became a little annoying so I took it off! Hahahaha it does make it look really cool!
Hey, thanks for the info. I'm glad I learned about that.
I also have Cookies, and didn't know about that.
Now I have just enabled that feature. Why? I don't find that "ribbon" at the bottom very useful, as it is not very customizable. Nice to have the settings button there at the right, but one can also do that with a Quick Link. I like the music app, but one can also do a quick link for that. Withouth that ribbon, there is room for another row of quick links. (I find it unfortunate that that "ribbon" is so uncustomizable. You cannot choose what is in it, but only what to remove (other than settings and home). (I don't really need that home icon either, because there is a hardware button for home.) I don't like how that "People" tab goes to "HTC People". I'd rather go straight to the regular contacts list. But it can't be changed (AFAIK), only removed.
So by retracting it, I remove the whole thing (can slide it back if I want), but can put the links I like in that ribbon into quick links, for which there is now more room.
Thank you.
