Can I get rid of the keyboard clicking sound on Universal? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi, wonder if anybody has a way to get rid of the keyboard clicking sound on the Universal?
It would be so far better when use in quiet meetings. I was looking at the sound setting but didn't find anything there. Want to check to see if there is any registry heck or other ways to fix this.
Thanks!

go to settings->sounds
disable there the checkbox for the hardware buttons

This is strange as the hardware botton box was never ticked in the first place... I tried tick and untick and softreset it but it does not seem to work. The keyboard clicking sound still there...
Any further advice please?

The keys have a mechanical click sound built in - very difficult to get rid of.

On a similar subject - anyone know how to turn off the clicks that happen when you use the start menu?

sounds and notifications - uncheck 'Events (warnings, system events) I'm not sure what all else you lose, but it turns off what you wanted.

Thank you.

It would be so nice to have a seperate volume level for sms and system sounds.
It really is bad to have them put into one volume setting.
Developers... any ideas? Calling Vijay/Buzz... and other smart PPC devs?

the clicks are mechanical , you can't get rid of them,
a trade off between membrane and swith activated keyboards,
although more noisy, the switch activated responseivness is better
cheers
C

Thanks all for your responses. Looks like I'll need to explore other input methods during quiet meetings...

Ringer Vibrate switch

I wrote a small piece of code to switch between vibrate and sound on. I've created the cab installer. Just follow the instruction below to install it.
1. Just install the cab.
2. Map Button 5 (Press & Hold) to 'Vibra (Switch)'.
Whala... you just got a vibrate switch just like an HTC Wizard!
To start the program in delayed mode you need to apply the /d switch. However, I've created a shortcut for the delayed mode as Vibra (Switch) Delayed. Because of this, you're forced to install the program in the main memory as I don't know how to create a shortcut with parameters in the Cab installer. Anybody care to teach me how?
UPDATES
v1.32 : added switch '/d' to delay 1.0 second start up
v1.31 : Fix bug where flight mode toggle was toggled even when button has been release on silent mode. Also optimized button handling to detect button release during buzzing and in between.
v1.3 : Hold the button even longer (approx another 2 second), will toggle flight mode (while retaining current normal/vibrate/silent settings).
v1.2 : Hold the button longer (approx 1 second), will set the phone to silent mode. (This only works with App button 1-6)
v1.1 : Now run with '/q' parameter to switch mode without vibrating the phone.
EDIT:
There's no more update or any changes will be made to this program as I've lost the source code.
Works great!
Thank you!
Thanks, it works perfect here too. I added it to the wiki FAQs.

Alternatively you can use AEButton Plus and map your wheel button (#0086) long press to the shortcut you just made. To map this you probably need to focus on say Shift Key first by clicking on it once. Else your wheel button will press the cancel button when trying to map the key.
one problem though, if you map to #0086, the button still clicks when you hold the button down.
So, you might want to map it to stick to the Button 5 instead.

I made the vibrate to sound on a 200 ms vibrate though. Slightly different from HTC Wizard.

Great Woooork!
Now i also hacked "Profiles Swtich Application" from IDO and Eten,
If you interested in them,,,you can try.
I tested on my Himalaya WM5 and Vario II and work well.
<Auto answer function of IDO Profiles was missing>
How about thoes???
Interesting (and good!) work guys, will try both sometime in the very near future
Can anyone do this?
don't you think it would be awesome if there was a way you could push a button on the today screen that scrolled through these four settings,
Silent
Silent & Vibrate
Ring
Ring & Vibrate
And it showwed you on the today screen what setting your on. I don't mean just the ringtone though, I mean all notifications. So when your out you can have it on vibrate cos its in your pocket but when ur at home it don't wobble across the table and disturb everyone without u having to change the settings for each individual alert.
I've tried the ScenariosE program and the Profiles program and they are both half way there. I notice on both of em there is a show icon option? But where does it show the Icon as to what profile u are on. and why does it only change ur ringing tone, not your messages and notifications?
I feel that if we could get this perfect we could really be onto something. I know a fair few people with WM devices that could really benefit from it.
Is there anything that does this or does anyone know enough about the hardware to make something that does this?
EDIT
just noticed whereas profiles doesn't seem to work at all on my Vario II, have found that ScenriosE does only affect the vibrate settings for the atual ringtones and if you adjust volumes using ScenariosE it only affects the notifications volume. The slider for the ringtones does nothing??? Very strange
ipaq hwl69xx and 65xx has today plugin and what u want.
i am on the way to hack!
Just installed the vibra switch cab and assigned to button 3 (the comms. manager, at least on the Vario 2) - works beautifully. Love the much shorter vibrate when it goes off vibra to signify it's back on ringtones again... Nice touch.
The Comms Manager button seemed like the natural choice to me, as it has a little icon of a circle with waves coming out of it, so it fit the bill quite nicely. Anyways, my Comm. Manager is bound to my right softkey, so the button was redundant anyway

Is there no way we can get round this? I'm dying to be able to turn off and on the vibrate function on my alerts? There must be someone out there that has seen something about this?
Or how about just a file that switches off power to the vibrator? Something that simple would be awesome, the phone doesn't know not to vibrate, it still trys but theres no power to the vibrator, n u can switch it on and off. Far short of modding the hardware and adding an extra switch somewhere (seems a bit ott) is there a way we can do it!

It is possible to obtain the icon of the program of red or black color?
The color gray is little visible.

(25 November 2008) Haptic Feedback 0.3.1 - LG KS20 support (hopefully)!

There are probably similar apps around, but I got bored and made my own!
Currently, there are no options. It's on, or it's off!
Download the cab from here, install it, and then run "Haptic Feedback" from the programs menu.
By default, it installs a shortcut to launch at startup, but if you don't like that, delete "\Windows\Startup\HapticFeedback.Startup.lnk".
If Haptic Feedback is already running, starting the link again will cause it to exit.
Notes:
No external frameworks are required - pure C++
Supports MoDaCo AppToDate
Coming whenever I have enough time to implement it:
Settings - lots!
A settings application
Some features I haven't yet thought about... Suggestions anyone?
Support for keyboard response
I can't be held responsible for any damage or loss caused directly or indirectly via use of this program, etc etc...
Change Log:
0.3.1 LG KS20 Support!
The "CustomLED" option allows for different LEDs to be set as the vibrate (default is 1. KS20 users should set it to 3)
0.3 Sound playback!
VibrateEnabled - enable vibration (1 is yes, 0 is no)
SoundEnabled - enable sound (1 is yes, 0 is no)
Sound - the full path to the sound file (only used if SoundEnabled = 1)
0.2 Settings! Stored under HKCU\Software\l3v5y\Haptic Feedback
HoldVibrate - keep vibration on until the screen is no longer down
HighTime - the time (in milliseconds) the vibration should be sustained
LowTime - the time (in milliseconds) the vibration should be held low
PollingInterval - the time (in milliseconds) between polls of the mouse state
0.1 Initial release
No point in a screenshot, as there is no form!

Feature Request
I know Heptic feedback is primarily designed to be vibrate response function but my suggestion is, Allow user setting to select both when Heptic feedback or audible feedback on or off for example only if SIP keyboard is enabled or in a specific program.
I really don't like the screen tap sound when used in general for all screen taps under winmo general settings but I would like the ability to have screen taps sound or vibrate feedback or both when I use my keyboard. So the ability to assign sounds or vibration independently of each other would be nice.

Why do you think I made it?
It only consumes as much power as getting called constantly, and it's great for annoying people trying to use my phone...

Meh...
I wrote it mainly because I find it useful, and partly to test if I can get input from the device - I'm planning on creating a keyboard hook to launch my Dialer when the "call" button is pressed.
ooo! you should also share this with supbro for his iDialer..
that would be magnificant!
i'm off to sleep, 2000 hours of studying tomorrow.

As of yet, no. Currently, the vibration motor is being controlled in the same way as LEDs, so it's either on or off... I'll look into an alternate method though.
It won't work on my LG-KS20 too. Just like the other pgm - Vibration Feedback.
this is nice little app

I think there is a way. Vibrations in Tweeter are very light, compared to the ones when there is a call or an alarm.
Excellent App, i will watch this development closely as its something id love. For the moment it feels like my Polaris is going to explode when i scroll Sometimes it also misses its "que"
But great work, very impressed.

Idea: Clicking sound when typing on the keyboard or other apps?

I don't know if you guys saw how the Blackberry Storm when you click the keyboard it makes clicking sounds to enable the fact that you clicked each button. I was wondering if something like this is available for our diamond. Never really considered this as a option but after I saw it in use its actually pretty cool.
Thanks

Hehe thanks should have kown better been using win mobile for like 3 years. Oooh well thanks.
Except that enabling the screen tap sound is universal for anytime the screen is touched, which is horribly annoying when panning and scrolling. I would love to see an option where the SIPs (including the dialpad) are modified to click (and preferably vibrate) whenever a soft key is pressed, but not for anything else.

Hi Keyboard always had typing sounds, and I've gotten used to it.
That's the only thing missing from the great HTC keyboards...

Someone here at XDA is already working on something like this. It's in its very early stages, but sounds like it may be what you're looking for.
Take a look here.
Hope this helps.

Looking for audible clicking, not vibration. The same result as "enable screen taps" but with the application control of this guy's vibrate program. That would be ideal.
Some 3rd party keyboards have an option to turn on clicking sounds.
TouchPal definitely does and it's also the best keyboard I've used.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm in love with the tiny, stylus-necessary "keyboard" layout on my Diamond.
Surely there is a simple reg hack for this?

TouchPal has 3 layouts including full qwerty and it works better than the HTC one, smarter T9, etc.
Otherwise, I'm sure it would be very easy to modify the vibrate software mentioned above so that it makes noise. Worth asking for help from the author.

Ring AND vibrate on the X1

Hi Guys
Another basic question here. I can see how I can set the phone to ring, how to set it to vibrate, and how to make it be totally silent. My question is, can you make the phone ring AND vibrate for an incoming call? When I select ring in the control panel, it makes the vibrate option vanish. Please tell me this is possible!
Regards,
Andrew
In Settings/Personal/Sounds & Notifications you hit the notifications tab at the bottom.
Under 'Event', choose "Phone: Incoming call"
Under 'Type', choose "Vibrate and ring" or "Vibrate then ring"
You can also do all this in Settings/Personal/Phone.. first tab..
I reccomend exploring your phone before asking something like this. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but you could have found this extreamly easily just by looking at all the options you can choose from in the settings window/list.
Thank you very much v1rone. Don't worry, no offense taken.
I have been looking for this feature for a while now and didn't post as a first resort. This phone is just so different from my last one (SE P990) that it's taking me a while to get to grips with it. I had seen that screen before, but for some reason, I didn't notice that middle drop down and saw vibrate as a tick box for all the other things in the top drop down so I assumed it wasn't possible for phone calls.
Anyway, it's all sorted now, thank you very much for your guidance.
BTW, when clicking on the "notifications" tab at the bottom, it takes ages for the tab to come up. This has only been since I upgraded to the new R2 firmware. On the older R1 firmware, it still took a while, but not nearly as long as it does now. Just thought I'd mention it.
Yeah, mine does the same thing when trying to get into that tab. Not sure what the deal is there.
I haven't flashed any of the new R2 roms yet. It's possible that the R2 versions have more files in the windows folder, causing this application to take longer when seeking out all the settings it needs to display it's window. Not sure..
I have absolutely zero evidence to backup this statement seeing that I haven't peeked into the updated rom files yet, but who knows
Sounds plausible
on another note, any way to make the X1i ring and vibrate in a sane manner . . . the vibration is sort of insane lol
anyone know of any app/program to control this?
thanks

Ringer-off switch doesn't vibrate

When switching the phone from ring to vibrate using the manual switch on top of the phone, isn't there supposed to be a short vibration as feedback to let you know the phone is silenced? When I switch from ring to vibrate, I get no vibration feedback, but everything else works correctly (meaning that the ringer and sounds really are silenced and switched to vibrate-only mode).
None of the Treos I've had in the past have had this problem of the "vanishing feedback" when switching to vibrate.
Does anyone know if there is a setting or a registry hack to re-enable this feature?
It is very convenient to be able to reach in my pocket and switch the phone to vibrate and to receive a short vibration to let me know I got the switch in the right position. Thanks in advance for your help!
You should try getting into Start menu >Settings>Sounds & notifications, and then notifications !
There should be a check box where you select to enable or disable the feature
Fyi
I have a similar issue...
I'm using 6.5 23549 RealVGA Updated from imzkng in ppcGeeks with the 'no windows/ok/X button' tweak and sometimes in start menu when a push 'lock' (or anything in the bottom bar) the Treo give-me a vibrate-feedback, ok I like it! but 95% of the time it just does nothing...
I bought a LG Cookie for my girlfriend and I LOVED the feedback and would like to put in my Treo... does anyone know how?
well, I found a program that rumble the way I want...
TouchResponse
U can config it to rumble when U touch and when your finger leave the screen... and other things...
well, i have the same problem with my custom wm 6.5 rom... as for the screen, touch response is a great addition (then i know when stuff freezes too )
