does anyone do this?
i just got a laptop and want to be able to sync my phone to both
but i don't want to have to keep resetting everything each time? ie. this time i went from laptop to PC it says i need to re-synchronize everything!?
is there a way to designate which profile i want to sync to laptop and which to pc??
like i'm synching now and i see laptop and pc on the phone but theres no way i see to tell the phone which settings to synch to the pc and which to the laptop
i guess it wont matter if the same stuff ends up on all three as long as i dont have to do this "re-synch" each time, and im assuming that it came up because i lastly synched with the laptop
the message said something along the lines of "something on your server has changed and you will need to re-synchronize all files. all files since your last synch will be lost"
I have to say that I don't get this problem. Emails can only be synced on one PC but the other stuff can sync to 2. My PPC now works as a proxy between my home and work PCs keeping the contacts, calendar and tasks synced between both.
Not sure what you are doing wrong - it just works out of the box for me.

Ok, using Activesync 4.1 I sync'd my Wizard with my home computer. That went fine (amazingly enough). Now I try to sync it with my work computer and I can create the relationship between the wiz and the computer but AS wont let me sync any catagory that has already been sync'd on the home computer. IE: calendar, taks, notes.
Everytime I try to mark one of those catagories AS gives me an error message that states...
"You cannot synchronize Tasks (or Calendar) because it is already synchronizing with Windows PC. To enable Tasks for Windows PC 2, clear the Tasks check box for Windows PC and try again."
What the!?! This same set up worked fine with my previous PDA, and it let me sync between the 3 devices without a problem. Am I missing something? Any suggestions?
Weird. I sync with my PC at home and my workstation at work. Everything syncs with no problems at all. The good thing is that by labeling my appointments (with the color-coded labels), the home stuff shows in color & work stuff in white at home, and the opposite at work. Makes it easy to tell the difference.
Maybe the issue is operating system on the second machine? Try uninstalling AS4.1 on the second system after removing the partnership. Reinstall & try again. Whatcha got to lose?
I had the same problem when I first connected my new Wizard to my PC.
Actually the problem is not that a given Wizard cannot synchronize with more than one PC, but rather that AS does not allow you to synchronize a given PC with more than one PDA.
I suggest that you just delete the entry for you previous PDA (the one that's apparently named 'Windows PC').
Apologies if a similar thread has already been started - please direct me!
The single biggest improvement I could see in a Mobile PDA now would be to enable 'dual synchronisation'. In effect to have 2 seperate sets of data within a single device.
Currently I have to carry 2 devices at all times - 1 which syncs with Work via Exchange, and a home phone which syncs with my home PC.
These have 2 seperate diaries, sets of email accounts, contacts, tasks etc.
It is not currently possible within Windows Mobile 6.1 to sync with 2 different PCs without ending up duplicating every appointment etc.
I understand the iphone can do this to a certain degree, but is anyone aware of a way to do it on Windows Mobile?
The Problem is th WM 6.1. The WM 6.0 works fine. I have two computers too, and on the one I have Vista and the other habe XP. And that`s works.
I don`t know how, but it works.
For me it works. I have wm6.1 and i have home laptop with vista and work laptop with xp. In my sync profile on PDA there are two sync profiles created one is Home PC and one is Work PC and it syncronises eveyrthing i tell to do. You will have problem with appointments for example duplication but for that you choose what to sync and how. PC to phone, or phone to PC and avoid duplication. Also you can use tools like SKtools to remove duplicate events / contacts etc... hope it helps

How do you do this? I have searched and can't find any way of setting up more than 1 sync profile on the PDA. I must be missing something...
Cheers,
Jim.
thinking back, when i connected my PPC to my works PC it said do you want to maintain a second Sync profile, i said no as all i wanted was to transfer files but you should be prompted.
I use a service called funambol, to sync contacts and calendar between my 2 outlook clients and then use exchange sync one of them to my phone
A while ago I had Outlook2003 on my laptop and had the phone syncing quite happily with that.
I've had to do a fresh OS install on the laptop and it doesn't currently have Outlook on it.
I do have it installed on one of my desktop PCs though, and I want the phone to sync with that installation of Outlook, but I get an error saying that it's not the profile that the sync was created with or something and it won't sync, so I can't get the contacts/appointments off my phone into Outlook.
I suspect I could clear the profile stored in the phone somehow (would have to be without deleting contacts or I'd be stuffed then), but then if I did that it means it would sync with the desktop pc but not the laptop (once I reinstall Outlook on it).
Lots of waffle, but basically as I say, I want to be able to sync the phone with two installations of Outlook2003, so if anyone knows an easy (or even not so easy) way of doing that I'd be grateful for details.
Thanks!
I synch my phone with Outlook on my Desktop (calendar sync) and my Laptop (contacts sync) with no problems.
I understand you can only have 2 pc profiles set up with the phone as well as Exchange [which is used for Imap with my Gmail account].
I didnt encounter any issues - but perhaps that was because desktop was XP and laptop Win7 so used different versions of the synch software?
Easiest way might be to delete the relationships that you already have on your phone and start again?
Hmmm, laptop is vista and desktop is xp. I believe it's activesync rather than Outlook that takes exception to this, if that makes sense.
I think from what you've said though (ie that works fine for you) that I should try what you said. I've got my contacts stored on MS Myphone service (in theory) so if it all goes wrong that should cover me.
Silly question probably, but can I delete the sync profiles directly on the phone while I'm at work (without the means to plug it in) or does it have to be connected to a PC/activesync to do that?

Yes.
go to activesynch' settings; click on "windows pc" and delete.
I have just deleted one (by accident) checking this for you
How that's for dedication to the cause?
I have been struggling with hd2 stability using activesync to sync my Outlook 2007 data. I have about 2500 contacts and about 2 yrs of calendar events. My old palm pre did not have a problem with this w/o active sync. I am about to rebuild the phone setup as it is corrupt again to the point that restarts no longer fix the problem. Sync works fine and fast for awhile and then the network connection takes longer to establish. You can browse the phone from the desktop activesync, but the data sync will not work. SPB backup seems to be able to sync properly and quickly.
The phone also goes unstable when you edit a contact shortcut or add a picture. I would love to find a way to solve this as this is the main, productive use of the phone for me and I love all the other capabilities of the phone and would like to move on to some of the other tweaks...but I need this basic functionality.
Please, any ideas?
The phone ROM is fully updated.
Dimes to Dollars you have a corrupt contact. Not surprising if you have 2500 of em. Experienced similar issues, fortunately the user noticed which contact wasnt syncing, deleted it from outlook/exchange, phone started syncing properly again.
If you decide to do a refresh, connect to WiFi of your work (or wherever the email is), and let it sync for a while before messing with it. It does contacts and calendar first, then inbox. Given you have so much data, let it go for quite a while.

Thanks Jimbonics,
Good clue. The pst file works properly on all my desktops and laptop. Any suggestions to validate the Outlook contacts?
I am using a usb connection to the phone (cradle) for sync. The initial syncing takes a long time, but works properly and does not stop at any contact or issue an error.

No error message? Hmm...that's a tough one. I was just going to ask you about that. I just resolved my activesync issue for "Exchange error 80072F0D".
I may have to move my data to an exchange server, but sure would like to have the desktop sync with Outlook work reliably.
The only error right now is after the connection has been established and activesync sez "connected", after about 5 minutes an activesync dialogue on the desktop comes up saying it cannot sync the data. SPB backup connects and syncs almost immediately.
The other nuisance is that when you connect the hd2 via usb, Outlook (and other parts of the desktop system) are frozen for awhile until the connection is finished. I guess there may be a problem with the desktop as well. I may just have to look into the process logs and find the log jams.
ACTIVESYNC:
Is there a replacement or something better.
My device keeps needing to be re-sync - cos it says something on my server has changed.. and when it does re-syncs I have to re-load so much stuff manually that it is a right pain... plus every now and then it totally wipes my contacts and notes from Outlook..
This is driving me mad now... so what's the answers.. I can't be alone on this as we all have HD2's and we all probably use Windows on our PC's..
Cheers..
I've never had that problem with ActiveSync but I use it through usb.
I only use USB and I get this problem approx once every 2-3 weeks.. basically I plug in like normal and Active Sync will just say there is a problem and that something has changed (I don't even use Exchange Server - just Outlook) and if I don't agree to the update, it won't ever sync again until I do agree..
Might be worth deleting the partnership between your device and pc and/or reinstall activesync...........
What do you sync ?
I use Microsoft my phone, don't bother with activesync..
But then again i only really want contacts and calendar, i don't bother sync'ing anything else...
