So, got a nice shiny new Advantage 7501, wm6 ... life is good.
Then i install the traveltrak CE software for my dive computer (uwatec 2g). I've used it for the past couple years on my ipaq hx4705 to download dive log info (while still on the boat) via IR .. you also can setup the dive computer via the IR .. much easier than the 2 buttons on it.
anyway, the 7501 has no IR? with a 4 into 1 (usb host) cable would it be able to use a USB-IR dongle?

I think for remote control, the speaker-IR range extender (from griffin tech) might still work with their "total remote" software.. will try it later

its really a case of trial and error. wm6 does have ir functionality, though how it responds to external ir devices is a mystery to me at least
it's a USB host device... don't see that working.

Iv downloaded Total Remote on my Xda2, but everytime i try to receive a signal from my tv remote control, it just says 'cannot read signal'. Iv also tried it with a dozen different remotes. My IR port works because iv recieved/sent files thu IR. Iv also used other programs like Iremote, with the same results. is there something im doing wrong? or do xda2's not like remotes?

The XDA II can´t work as a remote, because the IR signal is to weak. You would need to hold it just a few inches from the TV for it to work, if it works att all. I have triend many many programs, and even tried to beam between two XDA II`s. Even then the signal is very very bad...
I wounder even why they included IR when it apparantly aint working.

To allow you to exchange contacts, appointments and so on with others w/o the need of Bluetooth - I use it all the time and wouldn't wanna miss it...
alvin5785, I hope you didn't waste your money and got a demo version first... using a PPC as a remotre control is in my eyes a ridiculous thing... you shouldn't be as desperate as that to find a use for your device...

i had the remote working on my xda1 but it only had a range of 30cm
and i heard that the ir dident work at all as remote with the xda2 but i've never tried it
if it does work there are ir amplyfiers you can make yourself and put infront of the xda and the range will be better
I have a XDA II and I would like to use it very much as a remote controler but unfortunately its port appear to be not compatible with the IR signals needed to work with common remote controlers, so I came up with a crazy idea and would like to know what you have to say.
I also have an RC500i from Marantz that has just stop working and I am about to retire it.
I also have Total Remote from Griffin that I already discused here, it can´t be used for learn because the module only transmit. This way it is almos useless, but I like the software and the module design.
I was thinking...
I could take the IR led (the one used to learn) from the Marantz and substitute from the one inside the XDA II, this way I have the possibility to learn but not transmit, but since I can use Total Remote to transmit this will not be a problem. The fact that I will not have anymore the capability to comunicate with other PDAs is also not a problem because I rarely use it.
With all this in mind I would like to know if it work that simply or if it is much more complicated because of technical insues.
What you think about this?

Its not the LED that does the learning its the hardware/firmware attached to the led as far as I know, so changing them over will do nothing.
You won't get IR working on an XDA I/I/IIs or clones without additional hardware support.
The Griffin Total Remote is one such device, but the location of the XDA II headphone socket, and the need for a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter make it a pain in the *ss to use.
Griffin TR can learn from other remotes, but the learning function uses the standard IR port, not the dongle. I have one which I use occasionally, but mainly now on an old Ipaq due to the socket arrangement. It learns basic functions well, but advanced functions seem not to transfer.
I'd wait for the NoviRemote Blaster to appear for the PPC next year- it uses an SDIO based transmitter.

It appears that you are in the same situation as I am, because I also have the TR installed on my XDA II but it can´t learn at all so it is useless! To make things even more unsatisfield I got a pretty bad technical support from Griffin. So I am still looking for a way around.

i had wintv working without any problems with my xda1
and i had noviiRemote working without any problems on my xda2
with no extre hardware
range is not very good and you really need to hit correct to make it work but it does work
Felcas- Yes I rmember now, I could not get the XDA IR to learn- I did the learning on my old Ipaq, then copied the files across! The ergonimics still make it unusable though!
Rudegar- point taken about Noviremote, but with such short distances its easier to lean over and push the hardware button on the TV!

Looking for a printer driver the Pocket Printer A6 that works with Windows Mobile 5 on my Cingular 8125.
Doing a web search, I'm assuming SiPix is a digital camera, and you're looking for a way to connect it straight to your Wizard via USB? I don't really think that's possible, as the USB port on the Wizard is not a true USB port, like you would find on your computer, and is not capable of driving devices.

I haven't been able to find a WM5 driver for it yet.

I dont think that these printers are supported any longer. I have one and it works fine with my Dell Axim X5 (WM2003) but i get an incompatibility message when I try to use the software on my wizard.
Let me know if you succeed though as I am looking for the same.

I have just tried LowFat Invoice software on my Wizard. Using the built in drivers for this software, I successfully printed out a test invoice.
Obviously the actual driver works with WM5 as it is the same interface as the Sipix software, so the fault must lie within the two Sipix applications that accompany the printer.
I know this is an old thread, but for those like me that sometimes need a hardcopy its a bit of a result, it just depends on what you need to print.
I use mine to print expenses lists for our accountant at work.

I have some generic BT dongle for my computer that I bought a year or so ago to use with my old HTC Typhoon. The dongle allowed my phone at the time to ActiveSync over BT using the BluSoleil software that came with the dongle. However, with the HTC Wizard (MDA vario body with the AKU 3.3), I cannot for the life of me sync over BT. I have no idea what I need to set up and every time I try and do a new "partnership" in the phone for syncing over BT - i select my computer in the devices, yet nothing happens. I cannot establish any COM port communication with the computer and the only type of services that i can push are the vCard from the computer and a "personal area network"...
HOWEVER, if I take my Wizard and connect it to my Thinkpad T60 laptop that has native BT; I can sync to my hearts content... so... someone please give me a clue as to wtf I am supposed to do here to get this to work over BT

I had the same dongle, or at least mine also came with Blue Soleil. I hated that software - it runs a dozen different programs that clog the computer and still doesn't connect properly. I took it off and tried the native MS XP software. It would work once, but when I put the PC to sleep I would have to reboot to get it to connect again. I finally realized that it was much easier to use a cable and gave up. I'll try again when I get a PC with built-in bluetooth.

On WM5 has anyone been able to access USB devices like printer, Pendrive etc directly? Would be great to be able to print directly or access files from a USB memory stick.
Have heard of HP printer drivers for older versions of windows CE somewhere...

I know of no WM5 or WM6 phone for that matter that have a usb STACK on them that would allow them to use a usb device. They are designed to BE a usb device for a pc...not the other way around.

i think you are mistaken.. there are a couple new WM5 and/or 6 devices that have USB hosting support.. among them is the Athena, O2 Flame, and toshiba g900, and those WM devices exclusive from/for japan..
Yeah, it is the other device that must be able to read the PPC.
My stereo read my Tytn as a storage device. Can play music directly from the PPC. However it is the Stereo doing the recognizing job. Not the other way around.
I'd just like to clarify a few things:
1) USB has two sides - host and client and they are different by hardware and not just software so there is no "able" question here.
2) In cases like memory stick, printer etc. when your device uses what is connected to it, the phone must act as host. The reason there are few devices with USB host is mainly because to be fully implemented this standard must provide up to 500 mA current to the hosted device and of course thats a bug problem when working on battery.
(Any phone that does implement it, provides it "unpowered" so not all devices will work)
3) In cases where something is using your device like the stereo, the phone acts as a client so with the right piece of software (like WM5Storage) any phone can be used.
The fujitsu Pocket LOOX T810/830 can act as a USB hub.
Some devices have this capability but not a feature that is common.

I'm really unqualified to discuss this in great detail, but why I got there was - I've read somewhere in these forums about Win95 emulators for ppc devices. Now if it could be possible to "emulate" just the USB stack portion of Win95, maybe, the ppc could be connected to devices like printers which would not require a powered USB connection.
