This may sound dumb but I gotta ask. Having just migrated from a Moto v3x I am loving this all-in-one device. However, I keep hitting my head against WM5 / HTC inconsistencies and am looking for some steers in the right
directions...
I have multiple BT devices, from headsets, dongles to in-car handsfree gizmo's. My Moto would tell me which one was currently "active". AFAICT there is no equivalent "standard" indicator with WM5 - am I right? All I can glean is that the BT dialogue tells me what devices have been paired - not which one the audio will be mapped to...? If there is a 3rd party util that does this please let me know.
Off Topic #1: iGo 2006 - sounds like a good replacement / alternative to TT6 but can it be moved off the SD card and onto the micro-drive?
Off Topic #2: Does WM6 support external usb drives better than WM5? I can get usb memory sticks to be seen but can't seem to get my various 2.5" drives recognised. I even repartitioned one to just FAT (which allowed a max 2GB volume) but even this didn't work (and yes I had supplemental power to all devices).
Thanks
//copperwave
Actually, more than one BT device can be active at a time.
there is an reg edit floating around the will tell you what bluetooth devices are connected to the phone on the today screen. i will look for it.
FYI - dont' use the 8gb minidrive anymore than you have to. cause when it breaks its not such an easy fix. i would recommend only using it for movies nothing else put everything else on a 4gb or soon to be 8gb mini sd
hope this helps
Show Wireless Today item
By just adding following keys to the registry will get you a nice 'wireless' today item that show Network name/status, WiFi name/status as well as Bluetooth status. Confirmed to work on AKU2 ROMs
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Wireless"]
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004
Cool - I like the cell provider & wifi info but....
what I am really after is something that tells me what BT device/s are "active" - as opposed to just that BT is on or off.
Thanks

Thanks for that reg hack, I had that by default on my Universal and was missing it on the Ameo....
Should it be added to the wiki reg hack section?
sorry i tried

can this be done?
my magician detect the intelli mouse, but can do nothing with it...
cant also use the "stowaway think outside mouse" drivers since they detect only the Stowaway mouse... also couldnt use the IFrog Bluetooth keyboard drivers, even though they support HID detection...
can someone know how to connect between these two?
any news on that... i´m trying to use intellimouse explorer, too... no luck...
someone out there to patch the Thinkoutside drivers ?
I saw somebody saying that the widdcom BT stack supported the mouse...
I dont know if its true, but to find out id have to intstall a new OS (im on 2005) and hack around with BT stacks...
Id rather just hear from somebody running the 2.02/2.06 sin merged rom with the widdcom stack to see if it works. But i guess there isnt anybody with that combination and a BT mouse too.
Magician only...
i ment it to work on the magician.
do you have a magician?
I have a german magician,
neither ms bt mous nor ms bt keyb works!
maybe we should state out that bluetooth firstly only specifies the way how information is being transferred: via radio in a certain frequency - nothing else!
It does NOT determine the way how the transferred information is being interpreted. Lets say when you connect your monitor to the vga connector it is already clear what signals are transferred and how they are read out to compose the picture on the screen.
In other cases (e.g. tracking the mouse movements) we must specify before any exchange of data how is will be interpreted. This is done in so called protocols also known as 'profiles' when you speak of protocols in connection with bluetooth devices.
This means that a bt mouse will be detected (this is standardized) but your device will not know how to interpret the data which is being sent from your mouse unless it supports the matching profile (should be 'HID' - Human Interface Device protocol in this case).
The hardware support of the bt hardware itself plus the additional profiles is called a 'stack'. On Magician you will find the original Microsoft BT stack which lacks of many profiles. It has turned out that other stacks like the one from Toshiba or Widcomm also work (more or less) on Magician. Maybe these ones support your hardware. Let me advise you that there are still many issues with alien stacks so dont install these unless your absolutely sure what youre doing!
Hope that i could make things a little bit clearer for you.

Quappo
Great!
Could we pin this post within the board so it stays on top or - maybe the better solution - could we publish it in the wiki? I guess that's the best newbie explanation of bluetooth I ever read... 8)

Still no HID driver for PPC
Great Answer!!!! ;-)
OK, i knew all that.
still no answer...:-(
I was wondering whether there is a utility somewhere which can be used to switch on bluetooth when a call is received, pair the headset with the Universal and switch bluetooth back off when the call is finished.
Leaving the PDA with Bluetooth constantly on is draining my battery too quickly.
Is this possible at all and if so, has someone created a tool to do it?
Pocketzenphone is your answer. See various postings on this site. This software is a must for anyone with a Phone edition pocket pc.
This option didn't work on my jasjar.
OzBT does work!!!
Instead use a Motorolla Head set
Tailazoom is right - a most important feature of this program does not work on the jasjar :x . I contacted Zendrui perhaps he can come up with some sort of fix. Also for some reason I cannot even uninstall the program using the Remove Programs facility.
After playing around some days (and yes: i read through a lot of threats) i think that this problem (using a bluetooth headset to activate ms voicecommand for dialing and so on) is not only bugging me but a lot of others.
Thats why I want to start ANOTHER, more structured thread about this topic. If something is wrong, please correct me!
WANTED SOLUTION:
Most of you want to use voicecommand activated via a bluetooth device... in your car beside TomTom for example.
PREPARATION: Headset working
I assume that you already got your device working. For myself, I am testing with Supertooth II and a Nokia BH200 hands-free device.
PROBLEM 1: TRIGGERING
First off all, voicecommand needs to be "started" when you press a button on the headset. Usually, the application "windows/sddialer.exe" is launched when bluetooth gets a "voicecommand"-commando.
(Some headsets got their own button, some wants kinda double-click, others want their button hold for some seconds to do so...)
This problem can be solved by changing a key in the registry:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/OEM/VoiceCommand/
..Then change the path value to:
\Program Files\Voice Command\voicecmd.exe
(or whereever you installed your voicecommand exe-file!)
Okay. Now the right application is launched when tapping on your bluetooth headset. But here you may encounter the next problem: It works only once.
PROBLEM 2: IT WORKS ONLY ONCE
That problem seems to be caused by voicecommand, because the gateway is left open after useage. (I have no idea if this is correct - i am just citing the opinion of some threads)
There are some attempts to solve this:
Darryl Burlings "Voice Enable": http://www.burling.co.nz/downloads.aspx
Project VCABT http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23558&highlight=vcabt
VCBTFixer0.01.
JETware Hands-free Extension for Windows Mobile phones
http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
I tried them all and for me (german T-Mobile Rom 2.21) only Jetware's Tool worked. A reason MAY be that some of the hacks (vcabt, VoiceEnable,VCBTFixer0.01.zip) only work with an english ROM where all paths are correct: /programs and not /programme)
PROBLEM 3: Correct Audiotransfer
Some users report that it seems like there is still Wizards microphone in use - and NOT the one of the bluetooth device. Others again claim that voicecommands "answer" isnt delivered back to the headset but speaken via Wizards speakers... Since I used Jetwares Tool i didnt had that problem.
PROBLEM 4: Recognition Quality
Lets say you got somehow the correct and everlasting triggering of voicecommand via bluetooth working... then you may find out that recognition ends up with very poor quality.
Here a question for the "pros" in here: Could it be possible that this problem is related to poor bitrates in the audiotransmission via bluetooth? Could we increase recognition quality by tweaking that bitrate? Or will that end up with another problems (bt-bandwidth, cpupower while coding/encoding)?
PROBLEM 5: Interfering with other applications
Thats a future question... When everything works well with voicecommand - then you maybe want to use it in your car to have your hands free. And what else do most of us have there too? TomTom (or another navigation tool)!
So how will that work together with your voicecommand/bluetooth environment? Will TomTom "speak" via your headset too? Will the bluetooth gps mouse keep on working without problems?
And last but not least: Will you still be able to use your phone as a "phone" then?
Please share your ideas about theese problems... and if anyone got everything up and running (Voicecommand & Bluetooth, TomTom / GPS) it would be *very* appreciated if you could post a well written Tutorial / Howto
Regards, Licht
Good luck - for what its worth it works fine with certain BT headsets like the Moto HS850. Just the reg key does it.
Only thing is you have to hit the button on the BT headset 2-3 times sometimes to get it to work but it works perfectly otherwise.
Would LOVE to have a fix that would let me use with all headsets.
How does the jetware stuff work? I heard it screws up some other things?
Cause of "works only once" problem discovered?
I've gone through 4 different headsets with my Wizard and I found at least one commonality to which ones suffered the "works only once" problem:
All of the ones that had this problem were BT 2.0 headsets. The ones that worked fine were all BT 1.x headsets.
I also verified that on my new TyTN (which natively support BT 2.0) the BT 2.0 headsets worked correctly (no "works only once").
Not that this is any consolation to anyone with a BT 2.0 headset and a Wizard, but might help those looking for a new headset.
Changed over to Tytn... works perfectly without any hacks
here's my FWIW answer:
After extensive reading here and at Hofo, I settled on a Plantronics 510. Installed Burlings app and it worked. I hold the button to turn on VC (it will also wake the device from standby if its sleeping, even if its locked) and say my command. It will reply through the headset speaker. After that all audio is oing through my BT headset. (If you have VC telling you who's calling and telling you your appointments thats pretty nice, but if the phone rings you might need some new underwear)
Another long push of the headset button return audio to teh MDA's speakers. If I need to use VC again, I start all over. It sounds more complicated thatn it is in reality.
Recognition is so-so. I don't really use it in my pickup (its hot so my windows are down most of the time), but its pretty good in my car. I have to repeat myself maybe 10% of the time, at most.
Not sure how well written that was, sorry. if anyone has any questions I'd be glad to answer them. I've been pretty pleased with the combo. Especially since I got the 510 for $40 from amazon.
Hi
I wondered if anyone had successfully used the Sim Access Profile capabilkity of the of TyTn to connect with a Bluetooth car kit. I'm trying to get the connection going with a Merc. car kit, but I can't get them to pair.
Thx
Hi petes, I have an slk 55 amg with command and bluetooth. The bluetooth in the command system does not work for pairing with a phone. Even though it says it has bluetooth. To use bluetooth you need an extra module.
Hope this helps...

Hi Dale
Thanks. I actually already have the module - the european version of the module is different to the US one in that it uses Sim Access Profile, rather than just acting as a headset. The TyTn says is supports SAP, but I just can't make it work - wondering if anyone's actually got SAP working.
pete S
Hi Petes,
I also have an Mercedes-Benz with the european bluetooth module. But I have a Qtek 9100 updated to AKU2 (Which is supposed to support SAP), but no luck at all. Actually the module can not even identify my phone and display it at the search screen of the comand screen. I tried also with a NOKIA 6230i (SAP Compatible phone) which actually I was able to see at the search list of the comand screen which means that the module is working with SAP compatible phones. What I will do next, is to try again with the new firmware I installed to my 9100 (T-Mobiles 2.21 Version) which has a SAP application for bluetooth (Something like SAP Server).
I can not do it yet because I am abroad and I will be back again 1st of September. I will let you know the results ASAP.
If you have any news from your site with TyTn please let me know because I was intending to change my 9100 to TyTn just for the SAP functionality.
Hi Barsam
The reason you can't find the 9100 when you search with the BT module is that it only looks for devices which identify themselves as Phones. The TyTn (and no doubt the 9100) identify themselves as Pocket PCs and so the (stupid!) Mercedes kit ignores them. The good news is that you can hack the registry to tell the Bluetooth stack that it's a phone. The bad news is that you can't pair with it. Getting it into the search screen doesn't mean it supports SAP - I could see my old T68 just when I was testing. Could you actually pair with the 6230i - i.e. when you see it in the list select Call?
When you're back, PM me and I'll send you the hack.
To tell you the truth I didn't try to pair the 6230i, but it's one of the phones that mercedes have tested on the bluetooth module. If I don't manage to do it with the 9100 I may get a 6230i. At least I can use the one that my brother has to test it and even copy my contacts to comand. Have you tried the hack with the TyTn? Can you tell me what is the the registry set to do that?
Where did you find out that the bluetooth module ignores enything elese than phones?
Make the following registry change
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\SYS]
"COD"=dword:52020C
On your own head etc.. Keep a copy of the current value of course. Then do a soft reset. You'll then see it as a phone. I've tried this, and can now see the phone, but can't pair. I've had a mail back from HTC that they're aware of some problem with the SAP and are working on it.
I wish a nice car kit would be released in the USA that supports SAP/850 & 1900/ external aerial...
hello,
i'm trying to get my TyTN working with my Meceder Command too... does anyone tried the English ROM-Update? Someone wrote that he can use it's TyTN with his Audi after updating the ROM. And tha Audi-MMI-System works also with SAP... perhpas after the ROM-Update it works with Mecedes Command System too...
I haven't tried it yet - I've been waiting for the TyTn update to come along, but nothing from HTC yet. If I don't get anything soon, I'll switch over to the iMate ROM and report back.
I have used a nokia 6233 6280 onmy E55 2005 with B/t Module
The mercedes module in conjuntion with the command system is problimatic, hoever I think I have another peice of the puzzle. With both the above phones they only worked using Vodaphone 3g cards Three 3g cards paired using SAP however could not get recieption....Mercedes say (there guessing) its the way the sim card is configured.....
Mercedes BT
I have a TYTN on order and Im desperate to find a solution to the issue before it arrives.....
As a follow on to my last post ...basically what I THINK found out was if the sim card was configured to work only on a 3G phone..(some networks do this so that they cannot be put in a 2.5g phone and constantly roam on).....then it would pair with the Bluetooth module in Mercedes however never get recieption.
I tried this on several phones including 6233 6280 N80 E61.....just to name a few....ALL PAIRED....however If I put a Vodaofone 3g Card in then IT worked .....IF i put a Three 3G card in it didnt.....BUMMER CAUSE I'm with THREE.....
I hope this helps in some way and Im more than happy to be corrected however these are my first hand expeirnces....I WANT TO USED THE TYTN in my MErc so Im keen to help in amy way....I have unlimited access to phones...so if anyone has any other suggestions Im happy to give it a go....
Mark
At the moment, you'll find that by default the merc kit won't even see the Tytn (it's a pocket pc, not a phone as far as Bluetooth is concerned). You can hack the registry to change this, but then the phone will be seen, but pairing will fail. Hopefully, the forthcoming firmware update will fix this - I've had mail back from HTC support to suggest they know there are problems with the SAP support.
Mercedes BT
Is there anyone who had paired Nokia phones with Mercedes BT(euro spec) successfully? I had tried for several Nokia phones (6230i/6270/6280) to pair with BT ,all failed. I can just find the 16-digit PIN on Comand, no phone appears on Comand. Phone & Comand can't find each other. Do I have to set other setting except the "bluetooth setting" for mobile phone? Even I try to "search for audio enhancements" and 'find no devices' at all .
Thanks Petes,
Did they give any idea on time frames?...Did you have any thoughts about my experience with the different sim cards....
Mark
I am considering buying the HTC TyTN and the Merc Bluetooth module so I am very keen to know if anyone can get this working.
Thanks,
Ady
Nope - no news on timescales I'm afraid - just waiting for the firmware update from HTC. I'm reluctant to try the iMate firmware at the moment - until there's an HTC to go back to in case something goes awry. Has anyone had a chance to try SAP with either of the newer firmwares (iMate or Dopod) - might give us a good clue if the HTC one's going to work.
I've connected my 6230i easily enough, just remember to allow "auto connect without confirmation" on the phone after entering the 16 digit code
I have tried my HW6915 pocket pc but like the other PPC's it is not recognised
A reply I got from HTC support on 21/09/2006 asking about the Merc SAP problem was:
At present the TyTN is only compatable with a limited number of kits. A ROM update will be released shortly to update this.
Click to collapse
So fingers crossed that it will be soon and solve the problem.
I asked them the same thing a while ago and just checked back in on availability. Just got ...
"At present the HTC ROM for the TyTN is being written and tested and we expect it to be released in the very near future."
So, patience is a virtue I hear....
I'm a Desktop .Net developer with NO bluetooth experience and only a bit of low-level networking experience so I'm speaking from limited knowledge, but not complete ignorance.
I use my phone as an A2DP source and AVRCP client for quite a few devices (Jabra JX20 Pura, Jabra BT3030, Windows Vista, various BT speaker systems) and Alpine BT300) around my house, garage, car, and on the go. They all work wonderfully (some have better range than others, some better sound), but using any of them presents a couple common issues.
Some devices (like my car), constantly seek out the last paired device until they connect, while most of the other require a connection to be initiated from the phone. The phone doesn't care which is around or has the best signal, just which one successfully connects first.
I'd like an app that could have profiles setup which would let me control certain variables OR at a more basic function (see below):
Bluetooth Profile
Device Priority
Minimum Strength (to be used when more than one device has the same priority)
That would be my ultimate goal, but in the meantime I'd be happy with something as simple as a command line app that could be bound to a key or shortcut which would try to connect to a predefined list of BT MACs for a given profile and stop when the first one connects successfully. Variations on this might allow a connection attempt to a specific device instead of a list. This way I could have StartMenu or Today shortcuts.
The point here is largely to have to avoid nagivigating all the menus needed to initiate an A2DP connection, but I'm sure there are MANY other uses people would find.
If someone could point me in the right direction (I'm researching already of course) to the namespace(s) and or class(es) in .Net 2 or newer which would allow me to enumerate and/or initiate connections, this may be something I could bring to the community (assuming it doesn't already exist, and I have asked MANY times).
I've created a poll also to see what kind of interest is out there for this software and how much support I might receive.
I've been knocking an app up to suit my own personal A2DP needs... and a lot of yours by the look of things ;-) Things it does:
Kinetic scrolling finger friendly list of A2DP devices known to your phone (tap to select then tap again to attempt connection).
Toolbar buttons indicating active A2DP connection status (tap to disconnect active connection).
Bluetooth devices applet shortcut.
Switch bluetooth on (a good few of my devices need the phone to be discoverable so the app forces the phone to be discoverable at all times *blush*).
Switch bluetooth off.
Shortcut to program launcher list (automatically displays this list when you initiate a connection to a selected device... and there's items to display in the list of course).
Command line access (via secondary exe) allowing you to attempt connection (to a named , the last connected or first found device) and disconnect an active A2DP connection. I've only really tested the named device connection but the other 2 modes *should* work
QVGA / VGA and orientation aware.
I've been wanting to work towards getting it up on XDA... but time constraints (and a baby on the way ) have gotten in the way and it's unlikely I'll have the time to do it for a good while. I'd be happy to pass on the code to someone willing to take it further if that's any use. It's written (very quickly!) in VB.net BTW.
It uses a few bits and bobs from other people though:
A2DPToggle's "a2dp.exe" to handle initiating a connection.
Icons from lord only knows where I found them.
The kinetic list code found on here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333124&highlight=klist). IIRC, I used the gingercat updated version and tweaked it to my own needs. There's many a kludge I've put in to the code to get things working quick-smart (D-Pad navigation mainly).
InTheHand 32feet.NET libraries (http://inthehand.com/content/32feet.aspx). These work with MS Bluetooth stack only.
So permission from the respective folks above would be needed before releasing it into the wild I guess.
Here's a screeny
Hey great tool! When I click a device will it auto connect or only open the BT Explorer and will it work with Broadcom BT Stack? Thanks
Oops, meant to say it's been developed for the MS bluetooth stack only. Sorry about that.
When you attempt to connect to a device it first checks the device is reachable and only then attempts to initiate an A2DP connection.

Absolutely. I can get around in VB.Net and C# just fine. If you don't want to publish the code publicly, PM me your email address and I'll invite you to my Sharepoint site (easiest way I know to share files and manage communique), otherwise attach here.
It sounds like you've already covered 99% of what I was looking for, but I'd be more than happy to do what I can to more the idea forward, even taking suggestions from others in this thread.
About the BT stack, I'm running a Vogue with a ROM cooked in PPCKitchen, how do I determine which stack I'm running and can that be changed?

I've no idea what stack Vogues come with but the MS stack device list looks like the attachment below. If yours looks the same it's the MS one. I guess the Vogue forum should have any info on swapping stacks if it's possible.
Sounds like I found the correct people to answer my question about BT. Is there a way / how can I: enable my Mogul 6800 phone to transmit the sound that would normally go through the speaker to my BT headset in order to listen to streaming audio from the net using Kinoma Play which goes out and picks up all sorts of "radio programs" , i.e. not using a direct URL. I am also not able to listen to audio files from the Audio Recorder through anything except the speaker, even not through a head phone. Do I need to download a program or set up my phone differently. I currently have Titan WM6.1 Build 20755 GPS kitchen from PPC Geeks. Thanks so much for your help.

You need an A2DP capable device (high quality), connected, THEN start your audio program OR use a program called Audio Gateway with a basic Bluetooth headset (low quality audio).
thank you very much.
Northernmost, how about that source code? If you want to pass it along less privately than a post here, PM me and I'll provide a solution (source control, WSS, etc.)
Sent you a PM the other day. Let's go the private way for now.
