I dont' know if anybody has noticed this. After going thorugh Start / Settings / System Tab / Memory / running programs tab I stop all running progrrams. After sometimes I go to this place again and I find Active Sync as a running application even though I have not started it.
This did not happen on my old pda2k. Why does it happen on the universal JJ. Though it does not matter but yet it is taking some useful RAM and more so my urge to know why does it happen.
I will appreicate your views
Regards
I had this problem too
It is a pain in the ass as this causes skype not work with me. No solution yet.

Same here. I hope they fix things like this in Rom updates.
Try putting in dummy exchange server settings, disable all scheduled updates. That should stop AS autostarting.
Hi Efjay. Remember me? Anyway.. :? can you tell me/us how to go about doing this please  grovel, grovel!
Meanwhile, glad I was wrong about you!
Not to worry. Sussed it. Thanks for the tip though!
mackaby007, np glad you got it working, was at work and didn't see your reply til now on the way home. One-handed WM5 rocks.
Hi Efjay and All.
I'm not sure if this is related or not, but I had some problems whereby Active sync stopped working for me alltogether. Decided to download and install the unofficial 4.1 version of Activesync in conjunction with Magicbutton (and disabled the 'close' feature of Spb pocket plus 3) and presto, I'm no longer getting Activesync running in the background and all aplications close as they should!
If anyone is still experiencing problems in this area, give this a try and please post your experience back here.
Yeah your right Efjay, one handed operation in WM 5 rocks , but I'm still struggling to put the stylus down (I've become so used it, it's a new learning curve for me).
That's what you think
Try turning on wifi, and AS will come right back. I tried your solution and no luck. I tried faking the server and changing the schedule otpion, no luck, it just lives on....
No more annoying Activesync!!
Hi All. Just to report back, I,ve not had the recurring problem with Activesync poppin back anymore, at all, whatsoever!
Mikee: I tried as you said, and used wi-fi to surf the web, then watched a 2 hour movie on the JAsJar, then reconnected the wi-fi and listened to Resco Radio for 15 minutes, then checked memory status under settings. Nothing. No Activesync and nothing else running in memory. for me at least, the problem is gone and I'm not using any dummy server settings either! I'm typing this from the JasJar now and as we speak....just checked memory again. Nothing.
I don't know what to say, but I know you've had this problem a while now and all I can think is that it's either the software you have installed (possibly need a clean re-install of Activesync 4.1) like skype, which I uninstalled the minute I got my JasJar, or your Radio ROM update, which I have not done either.
Anyway, sorry I can't be of any more help to you, but please post your findings here if you snag the culprit.
For yor reference:
i-mate JasJar
ROM version: 1.12.38 WWE
ROM date: 08/24/05
Radio version: 1.03.00
Protocol version: 42.36.P8
ExtROM version: 1.12.120 WWE

Hello All,
I don't think this problem is specfic to the JasJar, as I have the very same problem on my PDA2K. This only started happening after I upgraded to the windows of OS. So, I think it's more to do with W05 and or activesyne 04 which is needed to run W05. I have also found that this happen befor I even installed any apps on system, and I never had Skype so that can be ruled out as the culprit. Anyway, still trying to solve this bug, Have not recieved my Universal as yet...I'm waiting for the o2 version  Think the black rocks! Until then I have been keeping my eye on all the help from this section of the site...Just my 2cents
Hi,
After I install the kjam version of skype on my xda i recieve a message saying this model isnt supported and it will disable the skype sound engine.
I assume its something to do with a vendor id or some similar check. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Thanks

Skype beta nightmares
Deinstall it and have a happier life.
There are versions that work on the Wizard. Some people can run the normal version others have to run the low cpu version. I tried both and whilst they worked, I was unhappy about it running itself in background all the time and deinstalled it. Then I got loads of errors because it was still there under the covers.
I finally managed to hack it all out, but it has put me off Skype on the PDA. At least until it gets past the beta stage.
I'm a big fan of VoIP and Skype are the biggest. Not sure I like them though.
Just my experience.
I just upgraded from an Alpine to a Wizard and am having an impossibly difficult time with Activesync 4, 4.1 and 4.2. None of them seem to sync any of my information with my Wizard. They just crash when attempting to do so which is extremely irritating. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion as to how to fix this. I have searched multiple sites and can't find any fixes, just people with the same problem.
I really need this to work
Right, after many restarts, registry cleans and other such messing about I have managed to get it to sync. Hopefully the problem won't come back.
Good day to all!
First of all let me introduce myself. I'm David and I'm an executive in a transcription company in the Philippines. I recently bought a Dopod 838 Pro to aid me in organizing myself and to keep my productivity up. So far, it's doing a marvelous job! Totally worth the investment, I might add.
Now on to my issues (don't we all have them? ). I'm very keen on keeping myself updated with the latest software especially when it comes to bug fixes and patches. I've read through almost half the Hermes threads on the boards and I have several questions that the threads have not answered.
1. I'm very curious regarding WM6, my Dopod has WM5 on it and I'm wondering if its worth upgrading to 6. Would you experienced users recommend me upgrading?
2. I also heavily use my Dopod as a media center, I access the internet through wifi, hsdpa, edge and even 3g. I even play movies on it while I'm out of town on business using TCPMP. Oh, lets not forget MP3s. I also can't go through the day without using Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Will upgrading my phone's ROM and consequently its OS cause problems in this regard?
3. If you do recommend me updating my ROM, Which ROM would you choose for me knowing how I use my Dopod.
4. I've read through the warnings regarding flashing ROMs. I've flashed a few hardware before, DVD-writers, PC BIOS and even modems and routers, they were all successful. Now, since it represents a significant amount of cash, and I dont want to "brick" my Dopod, is the risk of changing ROMS worth it?
5. I am a control freak (if you did not already notice reading this exceptionally long intro to a thread), I want to be able to control all if not most of the aspects of my Dopod. Again, which ROM/program would you recommend.
That's just about it. I would really appreciate your answers guys. Thank you in advance and allow me to say that your work on this thread is highly appreciated! Blessings to all!
If you depend on your PDA for work then I'd recommend to play it safe and wait with the upgrade to WM6 until HTC/Dopod releases the official version.
I use my PDA at least fifty percent for work. I tried WM6 but had a few issues, the most serious one with Bluetooth and loosing connection to my headset and then the phone refusing to reconnect unless I soft reset it! (Not very nice when this happens in the middle of a phone call with a customer.)
1. yes
2.no
3.check the latest LVSW, or one of it's derivatives, like elf, sleuth or V3pg
4.as long as you follow MrVanx's guide you'll be fine.
5.Sleuth's LVSW derivative, but that's just my opninion. Any of the above ROMs would work

I have seen this question posted 2-3 times in the last couple weeks. You might wanna try saerching through the threads for more opinions.

Media issues are generally uncommon in "these" (custom) ROM upgrades. Its usually communication bugs that you have to deal with.
3. If you do recommend me updating my ROM, Which ROM would you choose for me knowing how I use my Dopod.
Black2.5 is stable, so is Sleuths Derivative. If you new to flashing choose a rom that has already been around and has had the bugs worked out.
4. I've read through the warnings regarding flashing ROMs. I've flashed a few hardware before, DVD-writers, PC BIOS and even modems and routers, they were all successful. 5 months ago, yes. Now, not as much. Make SURE you read up on HardSPL before you flash, and use the mrvanxguide
5. I am a control freak (if you did not already notice reading this exceptionally long intro to a thread), I want to be able to control all if not most of the aspects of my Dopod. Again, which ROM/program would you recommend.
Same as before. Theres lots of little cool customizations that you can do, but a ROM upgrade is not going to be more customizable than WM5.

Hope that helps. Good Luck!
Great replies guys. Thanks.
I've already flashed my device with the ELF WM6 LVSW derivative. Works great. just has a few refresh problems. Today screen does not apply changes I've made without restarting the device, also contacts on the sim card remain visible even after checking the "show contacts only".
Hi guys,
I have a Polaris and am currently using bebe's 6.1 roms (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378080)
- great stuff (!!) btw.
(e.g. TomTom Disk is broken and I have no other source).
Now I need to go back to WM6.0 - but where do I find a suitable ROM? - say similar to bebe's 6.1's (WWE is fine).
If anyone does know of serious limitations this would cause, I would also appreciate a comment.
- Any suggestions welcome!!
Many thanks,
Christian
ps
I am having ActivSync Issues ( 86000107 ), described e.g. here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385865
adamz has documented it also here:
http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=1050&p=3
After reading several posts and trying even more solutions I am now convinced that this problem can only solved by going back to 6.0.
--Please let's do not discuss these issues here, there are several other threads --
THANKS.
I had the same problem in the past.
(one solution was to replace vista ... not a bad idea LOL )
the actual solution wsa reinstalling a new rom, by another supplier (UDK vega)
and from that point on everything went gr8.
you should try that b4 you go back to WM6 because with WM6 you lose the stringed sms's and a hole lot of other cool stuff that is unavailable due to the fact that it is official rom.
GL,
Itay
Thanks for this comment, I am trying udK R1 Vega now.
Generally speaking, this ROM feels _very_ fast and reliable.
(I only tried the udK Diamond ones before)
Active Sync is w/o any trouble so far. But usually the 86000107 etc issues happen just after a few syncs with the 2 computers.
I will tell more after some time.
cheers,
Christian
Same thing.
Hi again - hope anyone is following this.
I got the same problem now with udK R1 Vega. After 1 day, that was kinda reliable.
I am still looking for a good 6.0 image.
Any Help ?
thanks, Christian
(btw - I messed with my account - I am also [email protected] - sorry.)
86000107 solution?
My research has indicated that MS finally addressed this issue in AKU 1.2.6 that was sent out in March, however, UTC has not made it available to all phones for some stupid reason. I have been nagging Verizon and UTC but, surprise, they have not stepped up to the plate yet.
